Does that wifi have connection before? meaning is it linked to the Internet and operational before? meaning your phone may be connecting to a wifi router BUT the router is not connected to the Internet.
use service codes to check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26542865&postcount=4452
According to my experience, the router or the internet cable may be the cause, not your phone! So, try to connect to another source such as a hotel or a restaurant!
Good luck!

That thread which I mentioned is basically using your phone's wireless chip to look for wireless networks, making your phone a wireless modem
Still broken in latest ke7 firmware I just tested it. Works fine on galaxy s not galaxy s III.

Like several other issues I've encountered, there's probably little that Samsung can do. As you can see below, other devices with Gingerbread 2.3.3 are seeing the same thing, so most likely a Gingerbread bug:

Possible I am still running jpy froyo on the Sgs... no battery drain issues and pretty much everything is working

i can without any problem connect to our company's pptp vpn (provided m0n0wall), using the KE2 firmware i should learn to read. does work with wifi, but not with 3g. sorry.
it does work tho in the following scenario: phone does wifi tethering over 3g, notebook connects to the phone's wifi and starts a pptp vpn session.

I had a problem with my S2 where it wouldn't connect when I had another instance of the same network present. Might not help but try make the phone forget all the other access points you have saved and start from scratch.

thanks.. i'll try it tomorrow. so how did u fix it?
I just told the phone to 'forget' all the networks it had stored and then scanned again.
I had the same problem with mine yesterday. Couldn't connect to work wifi, but I told it to forget everything and when I came in tonight I went to connect and it worked straight away.

Someone please help me out of this ! Have been trying to correct it for a while! Nothing seems to work out for me. Thought of posting it on XDA. I hope u guys help me asap... \\\\first time on XDA/////
So the problem is: I have an android phone MOTOROLA FIRE XT530. I have got wifi , belkin router in my home , which i use to connect my laptop and cell phone to browse on internet! There is no problem in browsing from laptop indicating there is no problem with my wifi settings or anythng related to wifi!
BUT, on my phone, when i turn wifi 'ON' , the wifi works for 2-3 minutes then it automatically disconnects and then instantly reconnects itself! I dont really have problem with this thng but the other day i was upgrading my swype to swype beta and had to download this application but the app is too large sized that in the middle of the downloading my wifi went off thereby stopping the download(n sadly its non resumable). I am a huge fan of swype and have been using it for quite a while now. I want it upgraded at any cost!
I know this wifi turn on/off problem is faced by many but this is quite a headache nw! I have come to know about 'POWER SAVING MODE' n stuff, but sadly i can't even get to that menu coz i dont know how to!
Someone plz plz plz , help me as i am stuck with it from a long tym nw! anticipating early n useful replys :fingers-crossed:

Open app drawer>>Settings>>Wireless and Network>>Wi-Fi settings>>(now tap first soft key to see options)>>select advanced.
Now just tap on Wi-Fi sleep than tap on "Never"
Actually as the screen turns off wifi too turns off with that.
Hope it fixes your issue.

Try data reset. If that doesn't work, the issue is with router.

Sometimes I too have similar problem with my xperia. But the problem disappear after rebooting the phone and/or router.
I think it related to your phone's uptime. As the more the uptime, the memory tends to be fragmented and it has impact to wifi drivers (?).
it happens regardless of the never option

I think the issue is with wireless N and if you have a belking router it may be an issue ...dumb ur router down to only b/g and this should change the outcome

bro, i didn't connect my phone to any router oder than mine. But, i work on my pc with the same belkin router. No issues come up with that. Are u trying to indicate that my phone might have a hardware issue?
Solved
Guys hang on looks like a found a solution to this crap.
I carefully observed what happened when my wifi turned off automatically. My phone flashed a message "Get IP address fail, please check wifi password or wifi app status"..
I thought of making my wifi setting from dynamic to static. I used "ipconfig/all" in my cmd to get the details for setting up static ip. i rebooted both my phone and router. And bang!!! It has not been showing the problem now.! I've been using it for 10 minutes now at a stretch ( for the first time).. Am happy and hope that it doesnt recur. Will let u guys know , if the prob comes back!

This is a router issue. See my post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41245619#post41245619 we had to replace our router (the ISP provided one) in order to connect to the wifi properly.

Hi,
it is not always a router issue!! For D-Link maybe, but not for me. My router that works fine with all my devices, only the GT-I9500 lose the connection! I also had the GT-I9505, but did not lose connection! My "old" S3, GT-I9300, doesn't lose the connection!
Samsung ...
Here, many people say them router works fine with all devices(me too), only the GT-I9500 loses the connection:
http://www.gottabemobile.com/2013/05/16/how-to-fix-samsung-galaxy-s4-wifi-problems/
After I have sent my Galaxys S4 GT-I9500 in service for the second time (when previously returned the first time from the assistance nothing had been done and continued to disconnect) they have replaced the motherboard including the wifi module that is integrated on this and now the wifi works perfectly!
I retired my S4 GT-I9500 from the service-assistance last Friday, September 6, 2013
So, I can confirm which the issue was hardware, not software!
Best Regards!
