hi everybody,
I've now a galaxy s4 I9500 since 3 days, it's amazing, but I've just one issue, the wifi connection is disconnecting and connecting every 5 to 10 minutes, the time between the disconnection and the connection is small, few seconds, but it stops my downloads!!
I updated to the last version XXUAMDK, but the issue remains !! ....
anybody has the same problem? is there any solution or setup to resolve that?
tnx in advance.
soo ...
I am having wifi trouble too, it stays connected but if I try load a Web page or whatever it don't load so I have to disconnect and reconnect for it to work

This is a router issue. See my post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41245619#post41245619 we had to replace our router (the ISP provided one) in order to connect to the wifi properly.

Hi,
it is not always a router issue!! For D-Link maybe, but not for me. My router that works fine with all my devices, only the GT-I9500 lose the connection! I also had the GT-I9505, but did not lose connection! My "old" S3, GT-I9300, doesn't lose the connection!
Samsung ...
Here, many people say them router works fine with all devices(me too), only the GT-I9500 loses the connection:
http://www.gottabemobile.com/2013/05/16/how-to-fix-samsung-galaxy-s4-wifi-problems/
After I have sent my Galaxys S4 GT-I9500 in service for the second time (when previously returned the first time from the assistance nothing had been done and continued to disconnect) they have replaced the motherboard including the wifi module that is integrated on this and now the wifi works perfectly!
I retired my S4 GT-I9500 from the service-assistance last Friday, September 6, 2013
So, I can confirm which the issue was hardware, not software!
Best Regards!

I was wondering if anyone else have the same issue, I tried on my galaxys ,galaxy s2 and even on my galaxy tab 10.1 wifi could connect but there is no data transfer, I have tried this on several routers in my office but the result is same, is this a bug on android or hardware problem?
I have tried static IP, change many things but no chance, I even tried on different kernels but...
** my friends with blackberry and Iphone can connect to the same router and have internet
most likely your office has blocked access through mobile devices

But as I say in the first post blackberry and iphone can connect
Yes I have the same prob, goes steady for ten mins, then just stops receiving a network connection, but my desire is fine. My honeycomb tablet does the same thing, but just turning wifi on and off fixes it. This appears to need a full reboot then works perfect again for a while. I've only had this phone two hours and have noticed it so surely others have.

I too faced the similar problem in the beginning dude...later some where in the forum one user stated to reduce the security level of modem or router from WPA/WPA2 to WEP/AES...then it works flawless...i don't know whether it is a problem with android or hardware...but most of the router or modem is secured with higher level of security which could not be accessed by our SGS2..i hope this would be fixed by software update..

Its is most likely router specific problem as its not a general problem and the majority have no problem with the highest security level .
jje
It seems to be a problem with just some devices as indicated by this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194635. For a high end smartphone worth £500, temperamental wifi is a problem i shouldn't have to put up with. My router has no problem with any other devices so it's clearly a fault with the phone.
Never had an issue with wifi and wpa / wpa2 on multiple hot spots and home. Try a factor reset and flash . On kf3 xeu

i have this problem try to set up data tranfer with this, is free and support galaxy s2 , just follow the steps and a messege will arribe with your data set up...
http://tweakker.com/wizard/step1
That tweaker site is for GPRS/3g connection, this thread is about WIFI connection, so it won't help.
I have wifi problems as well. It connects just fine when i first configured the network but it won't work back from standby, although it still looks connected it won't transfer any data. Today i noticed an extra detail, it would seem that an app that was connected was still working but anything else i started fresh (like openinng the browser to access a page) wouldn't work.
I also noticed it loosing connection once after using it continuously for around 15 minutes.
Still haven't tried changing the security settings on the router, but, i previously had an ipad2 (for a short time, then sold it because it's just an expensive toy) and it would display the same behaviour.
Before that, i had a Nexus S with the same router and it always worked flawlessly! No settings were changed in the router.
I'm going to try lowering the security to wpa or wep and test it later.
If it works it might be a problem with the router but it's also a problem with the device (phone/ipad).
EDIT: one more thing, when i first got the SGS2 it had an older rom (vodafone KE7 i think) and it worked flawlessly until i updated it to a newer version the next day. I can't be to sure this was the culprit because i didn't use it that much the day before and it was a fresh install so maybe the issue didn't have time to show up.
one of my friends has a captivate sgs he also has the same problem, seems to be an android bug, or maybe samsung, another issue on this phone is about the bluetooth , it can not discover my headset bluetooth (sony DR-BT50) I have tried galaxy s , galaxy s2 and galaxy tab 10.1 but none of them can discover the headphone seems my galaxy life is messed up
Well i had similar issues with my vibrant and even on my nexus one....i think it is android bug....but if u r using cm7 or miui...u can easily get rid of it...by going to wifi settings>>>>advanced settings>>>regulatory domain>>>>change it to 14 channels....
but my sgs2 doesnt have this prob so far....i used those settings on nexus one and vibrant....and it worked....
Hope this helps..

Surely it would be backwards compatible.
It should be meaningless if bluetooth 3 not support BT2.x many devices still using BT2.X, anyhow my laptop is bt2 but I can connect to my sgs or sgs2

My Glalaxy s 2 has the same problem. It was fine till i was on KF7 but things changed with KG6 now.
My SGSII connects fine to every WiFi I've tried to join (open and ones that I know the password for). That is at least 3 different models of D-Link routers, a few Belkin and others that I can't recall.
I don't count a connection until I can actually view the internet and live stream the radio and I have been on it for more than an hour (I was proving to an ipad & ipad2 users that there was nothing wrong with a WiFi router and it was their toys that kept on dropping the connection).
I am was using the E7 and now F3 stock ROMs.
I did have a problem for about half a day. It would say connected to the WiFi but I couldn't get to the internet. I had to switch off the WiFi and connect via data connection and then try again with the WiFi - sometimes it would work sometimes it didn't. The only thing I installed prior to the problem was the Twitter app (from the market). Once I uninstalled that app and rebooted the phone everything was working fine. I can't say for definite that it was the cause of the problem.
To the OP: since you are connected to the work's WiFi, could the problem with not seeing the internet be due to the Work using a proxy server. That is what my work has.

Well I have a router that was supplied by imagine.ie, its a Motorola router and they with-hold the password to change settings on the router, have you heard the like????
Anyway trying that twitter suggestion, maybe the sync function was causing intermitttent wifi problems
Edit: Scrap them not giving out passwords http://www.imagine.ie/wimax_hub_setup.html
After a few hours survey I could connect my phone to the wifi, but Im not sure if this method works for you, anyhow I will explain here check it on your phone and report back
-Downaload the application "wifi static" from the market and install
-turn your wifi on and then run the application
-in the application choose add configuration,a window will popup saying have found a wifi connection will ask you to set for this connection or no just accept
-exit the application and turn off wifi
-turn on wifi and try to connect to internet,if you can connect then you are done if you can not go to below
-go to wifi static and choose the configuration which is already set and change the DNS I changed DNS1 to 8.8.8.8 and DNS2 8.8.4.4
-reboot (maybe not neccessary but recommended to do)
-turn on wifi and connect to internet and check if you still can not then...
-wait for me for further study
I am having a major issue with the wifi on my i9500!!
So I bought this phone from a guy.. he said the phone is never used and by looking at the condition, it seemed he was telling the truth!!
So anyways... I buy it, come home and I double check everything on the phone and also try my wifi network... I couldn't connect to my home network!! Its the same network that I connected my macbook, my previous phones (s3 and note 2)... every other device works fine except this s4!!!
So i thought the phone was faulty, and thats the reason the guy sold it to me!!!
So... I borrowed another i9500 from a store and asked them i need to check if my home wifi works... and again same thing.. It doesnt work on my home network!!
I also tried going in yorkdale mall and checked my girlfriends note 2 and my s4 and tried connecting to the open network!!
NOTE 2 connected in 15-20 seconds.. while the s4 never connected and kept on saying "acquiring IP address".. I tried connecting to my home network by doing "Advanced Connection" and manually adding the IP address.. IT CONNECTS! But i cannot do anything.. theres no internet access!!
Now im confused as to if my home network is the issue here, but if that was the case.. why did my girlfriends note 2 connect to the open network at yorkdale mall while mine didn't connect at all!!!
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!! I USE internet by this company called "CIK"... yeah my dads trying something new... we definitely get more speed on every device!! so its definitely better that way! but the only problem is i cannot connect my s4... Now i dont know if its the s4 itself, or my home network!!!
I need wifi... yes i do have 6gb data plan, but then i'll be going out of country soon and i'll be needing wifi for sure!!
sorry for the confusion... but all i need is to get my wifi working.. or if the device's wifi is faulty, how can i find that out for sure!
any help would really be appreciated!
thanks in advance people!!

this happened to my older brother's s4 too we even sent it back to our retailer thinking its a factory defect but it turns out to be router incompatibilities. I suggest replacing your router to a preferably future-proof one, the ones with the ac standards. Routers such as netgear or asus are some of my recommended ones

Wow thanks.. I guess it is the router then.. BUT the thing I wonder is why all the devices still work fine and just the s4 doesnt seem to connect!!!
Or is it all the samsung galaxy s4s and they have done some tweaking with the settings... no idea..
but its good to find out for sure that its not the device!!
I shall try connecting my phone at few of my friends place... + at local starbucks/tim hortons... it better connect LOL!!
Thanks anyways
ok, happend to my sisters s4 today, when i got it for her because she liked mine so much, anyways, niether my phone or her connects to Her home router, but her old iphone 5 does. and her husbands s3 does. so i replaced there router with this one
http://www.tp-link.us/products/details/?categoryid=238&model=TL-WR941ND
and i called the SP for her network information. and programmed the new router with this PDF guide
http://www.tp-link.us/resources/document/TL-WR941ND_V5_QIG_7106504193.pdf
WORKED LIKE A CHARM
the s4 just has new wifi technology that old routers are not compatible with, so at least thats what samsung said when i called them @roni2915
so first of all i own a galaxy s (very first one) used to own a galaxy s3 and now a galaxy s4 and everyone works fine with my router BUT the reason I am posting here is, that both of my wifes iphones (3gs and 5) had problems with my router and I was able to fix it by using a different encryption method. I used to have my router on WPA/WPA2 and changed it to WPA2 only and now i am having no compatibility issues plus i didnt have to downgrade my encryption security.
oh and regarding this new "wifi technology" which the s4 happens to use, my router is 2 years old and with the above settings it connects just fine
maybe you find my post helpfull
Just unplug your router for 10 seconds and then plug it back. Try again to connect to your router. Maybe your router doesn't see you new device.

My s3 and my sister's sony xperia acro s and other wifi devices works fine on our previous router. Only the S4 isn't. It always gets stuck on obtaining ip address then fails to obtain one saying the network is too slow and thus got disabled. When we changed our router to a new one it connected instantaneously so i'm pretty certain that this is a router incompatibility issue.
We're using this one btw http://www.tp-link.us/products/details/?categoryid=219&model=TD-W8980 took a week to arrive from the US shipping from our relatives there

Classic router issue, every new generation of phone will have some issue with older access points, in most cases a firmware update to the router / ap can solve the issue, though it does depend how old the AP is and the manufacturer. some Public hotspots are very very very old!

This can work but its rare in my experience, though sometimes factory resetting the AP can help if you have configured it for high band 54GX2 or what ever its called (double speed N) which wasnt standardised to begin with and thus has some issue with devices who are working on the standard. Dropping back to N or G can solve the issue.. just depends on router and setup.
My new galaxy s4 I9500 has been working fine until 2 days ago when the wifi started reconnecting every few seconds. I'm not sure what the problem is and I cannot find a solution for this. I have read the issues with the D-Link routers however I use a Netgear router and all devices except the galaxy s4 can connect fine without any issues. It started happening after my phone automatically updated to version: I9500UBUAMDK, but I am not sure if it has to do with software.
If anyone else is having the same problem or has a solution, please help me through this issue, thanks.
Anyone? It's the only problem I am currently facing with the phone and is a major problem for me as i use Wifi at home all the time. Please help me solve the issue and I'll be so happy!
i have also problem with my dlink 2640b and i found solution for me
you need to go to wierless settings and chosse CHANAL 13
and in option where you can chose wifi speed ( like b only, b and g mixed, only g ) chose G only
after that i don't have any problem with my s4
i also have security off

Thank you for the reply, and yes I have read that this problem is mostly on D-Link routers and that there are many fixes for that, however I am currently using a Netgear router which I haven't heard many people having problems on, so there are not so many fixes out there for that. Thank you for the reply though, I will continue to look for a solution.

Try changing the channel width to 20Mhz. After I did that the reconnecting issue was gone on my D-link router, but as you've read at 54g speeds. I can now stream video to my TV without it stopping. I am contemplating buying a new 802.11ac router to connect at 433Mbps as my D-link is too slow for my broadband now. I hope that helps.

Changing Wifi channel width from 40 MHz to 20 MHz solved wifi dropping and reconnecting problem for me also. I have Asus RT-N16 with latest updates. Also on my SGS4 has latest updates, stock android 4.4.2.
I used Wifi scanner, and there should not be any interference with my Wifi station. I have channel 1 and my neightbour has channel 7 Wifi. Wifi signal is also strong for my router. I was wondering how this can be possible, as any other device had not dropped connections @40 MHz widht, BUT a brand new Galaxy S4 GT-I9506 drops it withing minutes again and again?
Hey guys
I have my Oppo Find 5 X909 and even though I am very happy with it there is one weird problem that I'm facing. When I connected my phone to Wi-Fi it connected to the router via the Wi-Fi repeater and it worked perfectly. But then one day the repeater was turned off and i connected directly to the router and even though it showed me that it connected succesfully I couldn't do anything that required internet. For instance i tried surfing the web with my Chrome app and it showed me a DNS problem which is weird because all the other devices in the house work just fine whether they're connected directly to the router or via the repeater. I tried restarting the router and making the phone forget the settings and readding them with no results.
I checked the official Oppo Find 5 forum and found that noone else was facing with such a problem and I have no idea where to look for the answers. I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me with the problem.
PS: my phone is running the latest Color ROM international build but I noticed the problem also on the newest official international ROM. Also the phone is unrooted
No such problem for me. I'm on latest Color ROM as well :-/

For some reason updating the router firmware fixed the problem. Thank you for the reply nonetheless

I'm having the same problem. Also only with one AP in my network. When the problem appears, no other device can access the internet through this AP. Sometimes even my wired PCs can't get access to the network.
My workaround is to try to always connect to my other AP.
I'm on CM 10.1 Nightlies. The AP is a Linksys WAP610N
Is anyone else having issues with Wifi not staying connected? For example, it'll keep dropping out from my router every 3 minutes or so. When it drops out, the 3G will enable for a few seconds but then it will connect back to the router.
Is anyone else having this issue? What did you do to fix it?
Cheers
Are you rooted? Have you done any mods? Perhaps you should check the advanced settings in the WiFi option

Hi,
No I'm not rooted. No mods at all. 100% stock firmware. I have checked the Advanced Wifi options but can't see anything wrong.
Just to mention, I did at first think it might have been a fault with the phone so I got the phone swapped out with another brand new device however the problem still persists.
I have a similar problem on a i9505 running the latest CM 10.2 nightly.
Some 2.4GHz networks are fine, others behave as you describe.
The one 5GHz network to which I have access has recently started to misbehave; the phone connects properly and works for about 2 minutes, after which I lose all connectivity (I can't even ping the router) yet the wifi indicator remains blue. Turning wifi off and on again gives me another 2 minutes. This goes on until I give up and switch to 2.4GHz.
Of course, I have no idea what is causing this. I've tried various channels on the router, as well as rebooting it.
Does this happen to all routers (I assume you use other routers somewhere else), or it just happen to this router only? Is this case, you may want to check the router itself.

Frequent disconnections occur on all 2.4GHz networks. As for the 5GHz, I've only got access to one router on which to test it.

I've only tested it on my router.
As I say, I thought the phone was faulty so I swapped it out but the one I swapped it out with had the exact same issue.

A couple of things concern me about this method though. Do we know what setting that mode to OFF actually does? I've heard reports that the phone gets quite hot and battery drains.

Well I've tried 2 different routers now and 2 different Mini s4's and it's still disconnecting. What router do you have?

Or maybe Your are a doesntt support Very well Your fréquences for match Your mobile?
Have you try to make a Fullwipe? For put tint everything restant as when you have buy it?
You will be on a custom rom with ni mldem update i dont say but chère..
WiFi still disconnecting even on 3rd device...
Wiping /system and flashing a newer nightly fixed the 2.4 GHz problem, but 5GHz is still dodgy. It's not the (Netgear) router as I have a couple of other Cyanogenmod devices which operate without any problem.
Perhaps I should start another thread as this may well be something different from what is affecting the op's device.
