I'm the kind of guy who likes dark colored smartphones. I had to buy the white S 3 version coz i couldn't wait for the blue, but i turned out to love the white one seriously! Since I'm so meticulous in handling my things, i always place my phones in cases, either back covers or pouches. I placed my phone in a low price pouch i bought from eBay and after a few days i noticed stains on the back. I tried removing them with alcohol free wipes, but no luck!
Even if the case is low quality, the phone's should be high!
Any idea on how to remove it?
Did any encounter a similar problem?

Try this: http://www.displex.com/classic/uk/index.php , i removed all opacity and the cover seems new again!
Do this at your risk, i take no responsibility for any damage that may occour.

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
The stain is probably because of the cheap pouch bleeding color and not because of the back cover's quality. If you get the stain out, I'd recommend getting a better pouch/case.

Happened to my Topman jeans, it stained my Converse socks. If you know Topman, they aren't cheap.
Anyway, I use transparent soft case, to avoid such stain and for firmer grip as well.

The stain is near the top, which is where he would be grabbing it to pull out from the case. Seems like stains would be from his hand/fingers and not the case.

As u can see in the picture there is a strap to close the pouch on the phone! U need a mine worker to get that kind of stain!
Try to be rational in ur comments!
I'll never understand buying a 600 euros phone and putting a 2 euros case on it; and then complaining when the case somehow damages/stains your phone.

I dont see what that strap has anything to do with my comment. That strap has nothing to do with pulling the phone from the pouch.
You would still unclip the strap and have to pull the phone out.

... I believe that was uncalled for. There was nothing irrational about my comment whatsoever. I dont know why its hard to believe that dirt can be transferred to a WHITE phone. Have seen it on the iphone and HTC One X. I believe that is rational.
Edit: I just noticed that you are the OP. You must think my comment is irrational because I am saying that the dirt from your hand caused the stain.
You must not realize how much dirt any person can have on their hand at any given time. Just because you dont see dark smudges on your hand does not mean there is not dirt and oil.
ALSO, those smudges look yellowish/brownish, the same colour oil/dirt stains from hands/fingers would look on a white phone. Doesnt look like the black material is rubbing off as that colour.

It is so obvious that the strap is the reason, the stain is well defined and there are other stains, on the corner and in the center below samsung, so it's not finger stains

What I did was take the battery cover off, and mask over the holes of the phone (don't want any scraps getting into anything, this is a messy project).
Then take a sharp razor blade, and start scraping away at the paint. Don't try to cut into it, rather pull the blade along the edge of the phone.
Start at the bottom so you can get the hang of it (and its less noticeable if you mess up).
I took my time on this, took about 30-45 minutes but I got all the edges and corners perfect.
Be careful around the headphone jack, this was the hardest part for me.
Wow! Looks great

Yep all the plastics on the phone are red. Just carefully drag a razor blade along the edges to get the paint off. Like I said, don't try to cut into it, it'll look like crap.

It was originally supposed to be, but verizon had claims on the red theme with their incredible, then changed the incredible at the last minute and the evo was stuck with the black facelift. Or something along those lines, don't know the exact story but I had asked about it at my sprint training and thats what I was told

2. Laws of physics. The center of gravity is focused on the front for these phones since they're so light and thin. Yes it's more likely to fall on it's front like a bowling ball on a stick thrown up.
3. Counter balance this with a case in the back.

While these guys are being harsh, there is some truth.
gorilla glass is meant to be excellent against scratches, not breaking. That it cracked is not one of its features.

Look on eBay then
If you want something that is fall resistant buy a Nokia Lumia when having one of those things you should worry about your feet that your phone. Of course Samsung S3 is a delicate creature that has to be tendered with great care. There many fall resistant cases but to be honest the best protection is safety. I don't see how anyone would like to have a bulk that is twice the normal phone. A normal barely there casemate and a screen protector would do well for everyday usage. Thought there was another from case mate again that included a hell lot of protection. It had two parts, one rubber and the other a normal tough case but really that made the phone look like a satellite phone.
Alright sorry I thought it was break proof according to the video it looked like it. Also, it's not a big deal I still have 14 days to get warranty it was my fault and I can admit it, no need to be so rude about how it's my fault.
As for videos, I don't read much into them because those are mostly staged and does not reflect what really happens.
I remember watching a Gorilla Glass 2 video on youtube showing no scratches on one of the new Sony phones; I just laughed because they person was scratching with razor blades and hitting with a hammer; showing no damage. The only problem with that is the camera does not pick up the micro scratches which one can see with the eye (which the user shows it with no scratches in the video). Eventually the video poster did crack the glass after repeatedly hitting with a hammer.
There was also another video of the same phone being dropped in a big puddle of water and also it being ran over with a jeep...! Perfectly intact ha ha!
I have the flip cover and I drop my phone about 4 feet got a little scratch on the back 'maybe I'm lucky? but I think it was my case?

I have recieved my Bumper, but not the phone itself, because it was sold out, I wanted to get the case just to get THAT much closer to the N4.
It's made of some high quality metal, i'm guessing Aluminium. It's pretty light, at only 20g, it should be able to resist most drops and scratches, but the shock might travel through the metal to the phone, so I don't know. We'll have to wait for a few drop tests on YouTube, cause there's not way I'm putting my N4 on the line.

It shouldn't. If I remember my physics correctly, a magnetic field between the two coils should only occur inside, leaving no current to be induced anywhere else. Including a metallic bumper.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Ture, but while you are trying to position the phone on the mat, a current might be induced in the bumper if it is made of metal.
It can't be all metal because you won't be able to put it on, all metal bumpers consist of two parts and screw to each other.
Pictures plz
I think its rubber in the inside with a metal(ish) ring around the outside. I don't have mine yet but from googles pics that is what it looks like.

Oh really? then we should start making cars completely of plastic if thats the case.
Before the SGS4 was announced they explained why they used plastic which should have been a clue that the SGS4 was going to be similar to all their previous devices. Don't like plastic? There are plenty of glass and metal options available. Since the SGS4 will be around for at least another 15 months *****ing that it's plastic is pretty futile. And everyone considering a SGS4 can either choose to deal with it or not. Rather than complaining, vote with your wallet and buy something else.

I think they didn't want to update the look so people can familiarize with the brand better. People are beginning to recognize the Galaxy s3, and it will be easier for people to know the phone if it keeps a similar design. Sure, it could've looked a little more premium for once, but it's the software that's the most important, and they did a decent job with improvements and gimmicks that actually seem to work.

Not if it comes at the expense of microSD and battery *cough HTC*cough*.
I reaaaaaaaaaaally dont get all the plastic hate, most people place their phones in cases anyway, especially if they are made out of leet materials like glass or the fancy-peeling One S aluminium, which is even more stupid.
My GS3 survived w/o a case for almost a year now btw, and because those "cheap plastic" back covers are so uhh.. cheap, I can replace them anytime for minimal cost, I actually have 4 custom back covers just for variety.
Oh and I should have added "Power Button on the side" to OP as another pun at HTC but w/e.

Well this sucks, I want to start off by saying I have yet to drop this phone and I have had it in a Spigen case with a screen protector since day one.
So I'm sitting in a meeting during work and I took my case off my phone to clean between the case and screen protector since it isn't flush, and I noticed beneath where the case sits on the left edge slightly below half way of the phone that the paint is scrapping off. I am wondering if anyone else has been losing paint on the border near where the screen glass is? The case I have been using is Spigen Rugged Armor. I also take the case off maybe once every other week.
I pre-ordered mine the day they announced it and got it shortly after the first wave started shipping. The other day I noticed that the bottom of mine was chipping away. I contacted Google Fi support and they're shipping me a new one.

Hmm, black 32GB here. No case ever used.
Not a single scratch or chip or flake of paint lost yet.
I've got a skin that's been sitting in the mailing package for a couple weeks now.
I've been too lazy to put it on.
I may have to think about doing that soon.
Getting phone replaced for something that is most likely to happen again? Just wondering what you plan on doing when the paint chips on the replacement?
mine is the same, pain is missing from the sharper edges in the style of chips, the rounded edges in places have signs of wear as if I have managed to wear the pain down. not a great sign in a little over a month, guess it is just cheap paint on them, worst comes to the worst I'll just get a slim case to put over it.

I have ZERO issues with the hardware or software. I think people are having one off situations. Out of the millions of phones out there; there are only a few reporting issues like this.
I had mine since they went live (at BestBuy) and have yet to experience any issue. And I only have a hard case to cover the sides. The top and botton have no protection...
So to those with issues... Do you keep your keys in the same pocket as phone? Could something be rubbing it the wrong way?
I always keep my phone in my left front pocket withe nothing else in it.
Is this happening with a case on your device...?

it's in a pocket on it's own and it's not only the chips on the hard corners it's wear on some of the smoother corners as if it has been rubbed off. I do work in the building industry so it will come into contact with some abrasive materials in my pocket but it's the first phone I've had this issue with, but then it's also the first phone I've had with so much metal on it, it could just come down to a mix of the larger metal surface and the paint not being finished in a durable way.
I don't use a case and never have since about the Z1, it just seems like this phone is going to force me to put it in a case before 6 months is up due to the paint wearing badly.
Not a single blemish on my paint (or glass for that matter) and my phone comes in out and of pocket many times a day, sometimes with a pocket that has a metal rivet above it that it rubs against as going in/out. Black XL 32GB
I have a bear motion on mine (waiting on nillkin nature tpu delivery), just checked to make sure, no nicks dings scratches or swirls. I put it in the same left pocket alone in every pair of pants I wear. Nothing ever goes into the left pocket, except maybe some pills. I don't stick my hands in my pockets when they are dirty or dusty.
This is anodized aluminium, having it hit against anything will scratch and ding them, as happens with anything make with the same material.
