i just noticed this morning after unplugging my note that even though my note is going into deep sleep the battery drain is still way too much as compared to the previous day...
i checked cpuspy and at first didn't register anything odd except that it goes into deep sleep.. after a second glance only then i realized that instead of running at 200mhz my note was running at 1000mhz during charge..
has anyone here experienced this before?? although i noticed that it seems to be a lot snappier now
i just can't help but worry what lasting damage it may be doing to the processor... and the fact that even though it goes into deep sleep i'm losing about 5% of juice for every 15-20 mins.
see screenshots below. the first was when i unplugged it from the charger and the second... after going to deep sleep
see screenshots
sorry forgot to attach screenshots

ANy new apps that u installed recently ?
Normally , rogue process is going to call an abnormal battery drain ,,,download some sort of process, app moniter and see which process is running and taking most of the CPU time......My guess is that it has to be one of the apps that you have installed or started which is causing this
That was what I thought initially but I don't remember installing anything these past few days as I just froze a few bloatware and was monitoring the device for any issues.
The last thing I remember changing was some setting under the development concerning background process.
Hmmmn. Maybe I'll put it back and see.
Really appreciate the help guys. I'll keep you updated.

this may be the reason - afair this setting kills each process after you leave it, so in readily you might have ended with a constant loop of processes being closed and then restarted by system

i unchecked the limiting of background process but still the same... cpu is still running at 1000mhz most of the time
i did a hard reset by turning off and pulling the battery for a few minutes... still the same although the note still goes into deep sleep but hardly uses other cpu speeds except for 1000mhz...
i tried freezing some of my apps and games, those which i suspect might have required 1000mhz to run but still the same...
i guess i'll just have to wait and see for a little while if this changes...
i'm now thinking of reverting back to GB... since the battery drain for ICS is such a let down and with this problem... i'll give it a couple more days
what ROM are you running?
anyway something in the governor seems to have changed ,your case seems to be a performance governor.
try installing set cpu and set minimum to 200 ,max to 1400 ,and the governor to "on demand"
should fix things for you

yes it does ,but if you're not rooted then the governor couldn't possibly have changed by you !!
could it be a bug in lp9? I heard that ICS have some battery issues
how long were you running LP9 before noticing this issue?
Well, havent heard it from that rom. Bring it back
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
it might be the fault of some rogue app running in background, did you check with betterbatterystats?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I was using lp9 for about 2 Weeks after I started noticing the CPU usage
Couldn't find a fix so I reverted back to rooted lc2 GB
With all the issues with Ics - battery drain, fc's and mmc bug and now this CPU overclocking felt it wasn't worth it.
Now the note is sleeping like a baby. Battery is back to its efficient self. I'm getting 3 days on one full charge.
Will just wait for an update on official Ics.
Appreciate all the help guys.

I was on Villain too,1.4 to be exact...drains as well, now on Litening 2.2,after resetting batt stats, best so far screen on time almost 5 hours, using mostly wifi..but with 3G,I get around 4hr 30mins...I usually leave my wifi on all the time at home, and switch on data only when I leave...
literom 2.2 doubled my battery life (no exageration) coming from stock rom. impressive.

Some extended idling:
Cognition 1.13 with CF KG1 Kernel, Phone undervolted as in screenshot + GPU @ 750mV for both states.
Android OS still taking 1h15m CPU time in that screenshot, which, in my experience in this case is I *think* because of Skype running all the time there. Also Trillian connected to multiple services running constantly with Wifi.
I'm using Cognition 1.15 with modified 1.4 ninmphetamine kernel, very good battery life so far! (probably the best compared to villainrom and litening rom for me)
Having fixed my awake issue my battery life is reasonable but i expected betted with villainrom + nenphetamine custom + undervolt.
We need to guage some good comparisons id like to get an extended idle test dont know if i can leave my phone for that long. LOL
Btw How did you undervolt gpu?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
I would stay away from these newer kernels like Nephetamine until they actually mature. I alslo tried some other custom kernels and they kinda drained the battery way more. So I'm sticking to a plain kernel like CF for the moment. Also seems better to stick to the normal ondemand governor.
Undervolting GPU via Tegrak Ultimate, it's worth it imho, especially since I basically shaved off 25% voltage without any issues.

Hello everyone...
I have 2 issues with my Transformer
the first one is that whenever i leave my Transformer for couple hours it shuts down !! doesn't occur when charging but it does when it's not.. even when the battery is around 80% !! i had this problem with ALL kernels except the stock kernel which i don't wanna use !! also had this problem for around 2 months...
the second one happened today when i left my Transformer "Charged" at 100%.. and after couple of hours i found it shut down but when i powered it on again i found the battery 27% !!
i went to the battery stats and found that battery was decreasing slowly and there was a gap (which means that it turned off) and after the gap it shows the battery low !! it happened within 6 hours !!
Please help me if you can... !! I'm using Revolver ROM 3.9.5 and "Blades Kernel 3" that comes in the Revolver Parts...
UPDATE : The problem occurs with the stock kernel !!
This sounds very familiar to the problem I had with my Galaxy S2 a month ago.
It kept shutting down every few hours, and it was driving me mad. Then one day I uninstalled the app greenpower, and it was fine afterwards. You don't have the greenpower app by any chance? If not, maybe it can be caused by some other app you normally use?
The battery might be hosed. Have you ever let it hit 0 before? A lot of batteries never fully recover after being fully depleted once or twice.

No i never let it hit 0%... but i don't think that the problem is in the battery
However I'll try it and see what happens !
sounds like a silly question but i have seen it alot. Are you charging through a computer(USB) or wall?
It could be related to setCPU and the according profiles. Just recently I saw that my profiles were messed up after updating ROM and kernel. Might be worth a shot.
Reinstall stock kernel Issue #1 fixed.
Issue 2 sounds like charger shut off and left TF on not charging.
You've pretty much explained to yourself why the thing is shutting down.. It works fine on the stock kernel but not one that is letting you overclock.. Sounds to me like you are either overclocking more than it can handle or undervolting to much or both.
I can almost bet that its not shutting down completely and its just going into a state that the screen is off but the OS is hung up, so its not responding to you turning the screen on.. This would explain why the battery seems to be dieing when its sitting idle.
Not sure about it dieing while its plugged in other than maybe a fluke.
I don't wanna use the stock kernel.. it's really slow !!
and i over clock to 1.4 ghz only since i can't overclock more than that because it restarts itself endlessly if i overclocked more than 1.4 ghz !! i undervolted about -25 or -50.. not much !!
Yes i charge it on a wall or anything but NOT on my computer...
How can i change profiles in setcpu ??

No no you misunderstood! DONT let the battery hit 0.
First, you need to use more exclamation points !!!!
sounds like you are suffering from deep sleep issues. What rom are you running? also, have you tried running a custom kernel and not overclock it? You have several variables that can be influencing your issues, start isolating what may be causing your problems. the kernel seems the must likely of culprits, I would clear the overclock and install setcpu and run it for a but and see if you can replicate your issue.

Just try the non stock kernel, oc it but dont uv it, not all devices can handle uv, even if it is only a little bit. Even take it back too 1000mhz and try to increase the uv and oc by little bits at a time to see exactly what your transformer can handle. I think its the uv thats causing the problems. Experiment a bit and youll find the sweet spot.
I'm using Revolver ROM and i mentioned that...
I've never undervolted till yestersay.. maybe it caused the second problem
I set the clock speed at 1ghz and i'm waiting to see if anything changes..
Yeah... the problem still occurs even after setting the clock speed at 1ghz and default voltage !! using clemsyn kernel ver 22...
Every device is different. Differences in manufacturing etc. You might have a picky device. Plus these are mobile platforms. No fans, just convection cooling. I'm guessing my device is bad and it's Asus' problem ! i tried setting the clock speed at normal 1Ghz but the problem still occurs !! the reason i overclock is that because with the stock kernel i get slower web browsing and slower flash playback and slower overall performance!! however I'm back on the stock kernel to check out if the problem is gone or not...
I doubted my device couple months ago... because I've seen everyone overclock their devices at 1.6 GHz Without any issues !! but when i try to overclock a little bit more than 1.4 GHz it restarts itself endlessly !!

You stated in an earlier post that the problem does not show up in the stock ASUS setup, but only with a custom ROM and Kernel. How does that make it ASUS' problem. If you buy a car that says it runs on 87 octane fuel and you put 100% nitro methane in the tank and it blows up it is not the manufacturers fault.
Hi,
He have found a possible workaround for the deep sleep reboots on ICS.
Worked for me on a TF101g using [ROM][ICS][3G] CyanogenMod9 (25 Mar) (Cornerstone Available) (Full Working Dock)
Just install the app Wake Lock
1 - start the app
2 - chose option "PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK"
3 - chose "Start on boot?"
4 - chose "Aquire/Release lock"
Done
Note: it may consume more battery because it wont let the tablet go in to deep sleep.
Hope it helps.
It'll definitely consume more battery, but worth it if we can get rid of reboots until the asus team fixes it. What kind of battery hit are you seeing with this?
Nice ill try it
Thanks for sharing. At least it stopped the reboots.

SetCPU didn't help on my system. It still allowed some 216mhz and Deep Sleep cycles to leak through, and I still had the Reboots.
Wake Lock has been working for me 100% for almost a week. Battery drain on idle is running about 1.0%/hr of the aggregate battery power, up from 0.2-0.3%/hr. I can manage that until a true solution comes out way.
Just downloaded and giving it a try now...

The SetCPU fix has been my fix since this all started. See here for more details and don't forget to set your governors to interactive. Also note that this did not work for Vicw in the beginning or now, so YMMV.
Side note: Not to discredit your findings b/c they seem to be working for you, but judging from your screenshot, you have 96% left with an uptime of 23+hours. Are you even using your tablet? 4% battery drain is abonormally low for almost 24hours. Just letting it sit there and not using it is just a paper weight. If the problem is using apps and falling into and waking up from Deep Sleep, then the tablet needs to be used to show this.
If you are getting that type of wickedly small battery drain, please share how.

No that picture was from this morning after charging all night. Typically, in the morning my tab is either SOD or stuck at the Asus boot screen. I do use the tab mainly for work so no real media functions. on an average day of use it the battery drains down to about 20% after 12 hours. The picture was mainly to show the up time and nothing else. I can post a picture of the battery usage at the end of today..
I just saw your referenced post, I had not seen it before otherwise I would have given credit to you for your find. I did click thanks on your post. I was just browsing google search for possible solutions.
You are right tho, this solution has worked best for my situation. So far so good and hopefully it will continue to work. I do know that after flashing any rom it took a couple of days for the RR to start happening and they became more frequent as the days went on. So far im on day 2 and nothing yet.
24 Hours without a reboot now, that's a new record
This seems to be working great, thanks!
Since I tried to install The MIDteam's 1.4.2 Update 3 BETA 3, my Galaxy Note has been getting really hot even when I just open the Play Store for 5 minutes...
I'm now back on CheckRom HD the latest version and the only kernel I can get into deep sleep with is the AbyssNote kernel. My problem is that my phone goes straight from deep sleep to 1.2 or 1.4 GHz so if it has happened to anyone please help me !!! I've tried flashing every single rom but none of them do the trick and it's always super laggy.
also, I don't know if there's a link but whenever I try wiping everything from recovery it won't wipe .androidsecure and my external sd card is shown in the recovery menu but not the zip files on it.
Thank you in advance !
Have you tried other kernels? Are you using CPU Spy to see what state your CPU is in most of the time? The problems your describing isn't a rom issue, its a kernel issue.
Your phone will run hot from time to time. Mine does too. If something wasn't right I'm sure you would be getting a ton of FC`s and random reboots.
Im currently running KindDroid and SpeedMod kernel with no issues. Gets warm but nothing out of the ordinary.

Also consider BetterBatteryStats from the Play store. It will give you a better idea if your getting any wakelock problems as well.
My phone last night got stuck on 1.4Ghz from 12am till I woke up (6:00am). It was warm but nothing different then normal use. I found out by setting my alarm clock somehow caused the phone to get stuck and not sleep. Almost like I changed the governor to performance (which I didn't lol)

[FiX] Galaxy Note ICS OVERHEATING PROBLEM SOLVED
[FiX] Galaxy Note ICS OVERHEATING PROBLEM SOLVED:
1 Go to settings- developer options - UNCHECK "Dont keep activities"
2 Use go launcher ex (or some other good launcher...) instead of default launcher
3 Instal from google play android assistant and use it to clean cache and stop most of background process
4 install from google play "cpu master free" (MUST HAVE ROOTED PHONE) and set 1000 MHz for MAXIMUM, and check box "set on boot"
5 Turn off gps, bluetooth, sinc, WiFi, Packet Data and all other stuff that you dont use at moment...
P.S. DO NOT expect that your phone will be cold as ice after you do this...
ICS is build that you can use max. out of dual core, and galaxy note is pretty slim and back is made out of plastic...All that increase heating problem...
Hope i helped! =D
link
The OMAP4 Cortex A9 platform specification shows that its operating temperature is 40° to 85° C (104° to 185° F). Then why the Galaxy Note overheats but other phones do not? It is very thin so you are holding your hands very close to processor and you feel heat.
There is nothing you can do about the Galaxy Note overheating and you have to live with it. If you don’t use it for gaming or videos you won’t notice heat. If your Galaxy Note gets warm while you are using it only few minutes without pushing it to limits then it could be some other issue with your device.
As long as you can’t fry eggs on the Galaxy Note, it doesn’t melt, and you can still hold it in your hands its absolutely normal. So it’s not a big deal and there is no fix for it unless you want to stop playing games and watching videos.
battery manufacturers say this ...
Notice:
1. Do not remove battery at will charging.
2. Do not place the battery stored in more than 45 ° C high temperature environm-ent or in fire, otherwise it may cause the battery explosion.
3. Don't exert external force to the battery or rendered from falling.
4. Do not place the battery with conductor such as key, coins, etc, to avoid short-Circuit.
5. Do not let battery be moist or put it in water.
6. Suggest choosing original charger or performance reliable charger for charging.
if you live at a place where the environmental temperature reaches 43° C then overheating of your note is natural.. lol

Hi.. I upgraded to the German ICS 5 days ago..
my baseband is N7000XXLPT
and build # is IML74K.XXLPY
and I put on the Speedmod 3.3 Kernel.
And i STILL have serious battery drain... I mean.. It wont even last half a day with not alot of on time as before with GB..
Can you please offer me some suggestions?? thanks.
thanks again..
Im at my witts end for a first time flasher...
Do a full charge and download CPU spy to find out if your phone its entering deep sleep, also check the battery stats for some clues as to what's causing it, finally go to task manger and go to the storage tab and select battery motoring.
This should identify any apps that are hogging battery / CPU.
If nothing its found, perform a full wipe.

A week ago i was having the same issue. It will run at max 8-9hrs. I needed to bring the charger at work for it to last until i get home to do another full charge. I have the same kernel and rom (LPY and speedmod combo). Serious battery drain abt 3-5% per hour doing absolutely nothing.
I did a little research and with the help of betterbatterystats i found out that the culprit is audioout_1 as betterbatterystats reported that audioout_1 wakes the phone from deep sleep.
By any chance do you have keytouch sounds on?

People here will suggest cpu spy and better battery stats for you to PERSONALLY find what causes your problem.
Installing speedmod will not perform magic in your phone, but its a start in the right path.

thanks for the replies gang.
I went to bed at 82% and in airplane mode.\Woke up to 42%.\CPU Spy saus only 2% deep sleep.
I dont have any sounds on. Alll sounds off except to vibrate on screen tap.
Im on the battery monitoring now in task manager.
My next step would be to purchas Bettery Battery Stats to pinpoint the programs preventing from going into deep sleep..
thanks for the answers again, gang.
**Question though***
under Task manager / Storage / Battery Monitor ...
Start monitoring..... then what? What does that do? I small icon shows up on the top status bar.
Then what? What to do after turning on Battery Monitoring? [email protected]!
Since we have different apps installed, you need to find out what app or process preventing your phone from going into deep sleep.
It's a pain I know but no other choice.
And you don't suspect speedmod?

No. speedmod goes into deep sleep for me without any problems. In his case it's an app that keeps the phone awake

I'm using Stock ICS kernel without deep sleep problem. Check sync options I ever found some app triggerred deep sleep problem while it's set sync ON.
thanks guys and gals for your comments..
I felt that youse were right in the fact that it was MY problem. within my GNote.
So I read and re-read other threads too & something caught my attention.
Someone said that maybe folks installed some sort of "messenger" or something that keeps "reaching out" to see if something is there for it.
And I remembered installing Yahoo Messenger to chat with this nice dame. about the same time frame when I went to ICS
Well...
I uninstalled Yahoo Messenger and WALLA!!!..
Back to deep sleep! And I got my battery back!
Thanks again for all the replies and comments.
They really help.
I hope my solution helps others out.
Try IM+ chat app it doesn't have problem with deep sleep. You can use yahoo login also.
