Let's try this again. Two rules regarding the Fascinate general section.
1)-Let's try to keep the "thank you" threads to a minimum. Please use the "THANKS" button to thank people for awesome work.
and
2)-Please keep all questions that aren't general to the Q&A section. Non-general questions will be moved to the Q&A section, as will general questions once they are resolved.
Word.-ashasaur
The Fascinate section is a very rough crowd of people that expect the world handed to them on a silver platter for nothing, and they all want it 5 min ago. Personally, I'm just happy we have an active mod now as I didn't like to have to always bother Captainkrtek with the off-topic posts in the Development forum.
This is the wild west yo...if you demand something instead of proposing, expect to get shot.

Oh I know, but the yelling at other members for supporting me is what gets to me. Yell at me all you want, I'm the mod thats what I'm here for...but yelling at other members? Wow is all I have to say.
Well, you started a flame war. You should fit right in
Heh, fair enough. Like I say, not trying to be a jackass, just trying to bring in some order that you all seems to have been wanting. At least the new naming scheme has been taken pretty damn well in the development section, as has the new Q&A section I got for us.

Well then, Here's to order out of chaos.
Two things should take place if you're effective:
The Fascinate forums become much more engaging and reasonable to navigate
About half my posts get moved or deleted for irrelevence
Now I will have a beer to celebrate.

Pretty much sums it up.
I think a 5th grade school yard would be a better analogy than the wild west. 'You try and set rules and we will whine and test your authority.'
ok... so what's the purpose of general if not to ask general questions?
Seems like Q&A should be left for specific FAQs and "how to"s to me.
Specifically, I just posted a question to general, should that have been in Q&A based on your definition?

Well Said =D
Development is easy as is Themes and Apps. But the line between General and Q&A is hazy.
I think the things that need to be considered is what makes a question technical and what it a general question. Should ANY questions be in General or should all questions belong in Q&A and General be for news, announcements, opinions, sharing other resources, etc.
Otherwise I think the line between General and Q&A will remain hazy.

Definitely true statement you made it there. Mod gotta do something about it. General/Q&A is just messy.
The point of the general forum is just that, general discussion, not questions. EVERY DAY people post Questions about CWM or Froyo in the General section, and things like that just need togo into the Q&A section.
Not to be a douche about it, but you all wanted a Q&A section, and I got it for you. So stop whining.
If I might make an observation, suggestion, and offer a possible option fo resolution:
The basic procedural questions may be quelled if the there was a consolidation, collective update, and removal of outdated how to's in the forum all together. As questions are answered amidst the postings following the OP's, those tweaks, exceptions, or side steps, added would prevent new visitors from then repeating that same mistep, thereby causing that repeat posted question.
To further that, as procedures are refined and updated, older versions should be removed or directly notated as outdated with a current link to the most recent and up to date instructional set. I know that most of my confusion has stemmed from to many years in windows mobile mode, and then coming to android, which was greek to me initially. But it is that much harder to functionally self educate when presented with multitudes of outdated threads whith solutions hidden amidst the 1000 posts, only to discover that by the time I have read then entire thread, a newer version or instruction has been posted, and posted elsewhere.
I hope I am making sense, let me know if not. If there is any assistance I can provide in implementing a solution to the process of clarification within the forum I would he happy, and honored to help in any way I can. Thanks for the work you do here, I know I havent eve a fraction of understanding the multifaceted responsibilities involved with maintaining a forum, so I know you must be a busy person. Take care.

+1 to the entire preceding comment, especially the quoted section. I don't know enough yet to contribute anything dev-grade to the community, but I'd be happy to help out however else I can...
As was announced last week, Operation:Iron Fist is in full effect. Read about it here.
With that being said, the following will begin to happen:
1. All non-development threads started in the Development section will be moved to the appropriate section and/or closed and the "responsible" poster (in quotes because the fact they posted in the wrong section clearly brings into question whether or not they are responsible) will be infracted.
2. Any abusive posts directed at any user will be deleted and the abuser will be infracted and/or given a temporary vacation. Multiple instances will result in a longer leave-of-absence, and if it continues you will be removed from XDA. You, and your behavior, are not welcome at XDA.
3. Any off-topic posts in the Development section threads will be deleted. These are non-helpful, and certainly not development posts. This includes the following:
"OMG THIS IS SO GREAT!"
"WOW! YOU ROCK AND I WANT TO HAVE YOUR BABIES!"
"THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER!"
"THANKS FOR THIS!"
If you want to thank someone for their work, do so by clicking the "THANKS" button on their post.
4. Any post, in any section, that is done to further post count will be deleted and you will face possible infraction.
5. Anything else that goes against the XDA Forum Rules and XDA Mantra will be dealt with firmly, but fairly.

Ahh - perfect example. It's both - and not needed in a Development thread. Use Thanks.
I've decided to post this regardless of the potential consequences to my membership here. To the mods, you've now closed airbus360's ICS thread despite a final warning to members that continued off-topic posts in violation of forum policy would be enforced. Despite this, instead, mods have locked the entire thread. This site has progressively become a zoo and TBH it is the fault of the site staff.

Personally its idiotic posters who wreck the forum .
not saying this is an idiotic post as i dont know the subject in question .
One has only to read posts on the forum to realize its hard to be a developers forum when its full of kindergarten users .
Mods don't get paid and there are few if any volunteers from the mass of users .

codeworkx sums it up for you in one of the last posts in that thread. I believe it wasn't closed because of spam, rather an incompetent, donation requesting developer giving false hopes to the uninformed.
I fully understand this having direct experience with forum admin/mod duties on, dare I say, BlackBerry forums. Idiotic posts are specifically for site staff to manage, the continued bantering allowed in response to an individual idiotic post is a significant contributor, as is the elitist attitudes of some. That's all I'm saying (P.S. Your username seems familiar to me...).

Crachel (site moderator) gave this warning before closing the thread.
'Wow, cifs module affects wifi? I'm more amazed everyday at this thread and the absolute nonsense being spewed from here. Your claims of what you're fixing would be in the kernel making your next "release" require source per GPL. So go ahead and upload/link that too or I'm locking this thread to put these noobs out of their misery'.

P.S. Your not a lemming, people don't NEED to donate anything, and to be honest, no disrespect, but codeworkx now jumping in and essentially hijacking the thread I'm sure is against forum policy as well. No I'm ready to be crucified lmao.

site staff should make it mandatory to display every users age, then we can really see how young those people are.
Did you guys really think that one lone developer would be able to pull off something the entire Hacksung team wasn't able to do (without kernel sources?)
What codeworkx did what right, IMO.
What XDA needs is more serious developers, not little kids trying to do something that's way beyond their reach. I've read nearly all the pages in that thread and it was a complete joke. I'm so glad that thread got locked.
All I saw from airbus was asking for donations, asking for other people to compile the builds, posts about failed builds and some pretty embarrasing theories as to why something wasn't working.
I'm all for this site being a learning ground for everyone who wants to develop, but there should be a special section for that. He is just not experienced enough to pull off a fully working ICS AOSP ROM for the GS2, and with that in mind, he shouldn't be allowed to pull wool over all the users' eyes.
Cool down bro .... nothings lost ! both teamhacksung and airbus are all at the same level so unless sammy can give them a proper workable build none of those guys are gonna fork out anything usable.
No one apart from sammy can fix stuff on there devices as the kernel source is still closed sourced so i would say at this point , there no use in ranting on why a ASOP or CM rom is not released or closed ! ...
I you still want to vent your anger vent at sammy for not releasing the source.
First of all, the thread was not a dev thread, it was a "dogs and cats in heat" hostage situation. 156 pages of nothing, over nothing and for nothing. While I can't comment on Airbus360's competence, he did stirred the waters by achieving a decent build of ICS - though no audio, cameras and SD. It doesn't matter how he did it- it's all part of GPL game. Saying that wifi is broken because of cifs.ko(or whatever cifs was he talking about) provided some clues for the devs.
Codeworkx said what he said, so if that's true, the work of Airbus360 can be replicated easily in a matter of minutes - given the fact that everybody coming here should have a clue about github and kernels.
What DOES matter is how people expect XDA to be a community for all.
IT IS NOT. IT HAS NEVER BEEN, NOR WILL IT BE.
It's open for a lot to read and here,@reading, it all should be stopped. Read, read, understand, read more and maybe, maybe then, post something, post something USEFUL. We don't pay for servers, nor we see a flood of banners here.
It's not a Sammy/HTC/ HP support forum.
2 things killing the sgs2 forum
Increasing number of:
1. n00b devs asking for donations for kanging
2. n00bs that just wont read
The culprits are getting away with it, on a daily basis.

This is unfortunately true in particular your second point, the same questions being asked over and over again, even last year on the HD2 forums we had this issue but it's become much worse in 2011 and i think when newbies register they should have be given a list of FAQ's and told to search the forum for any questions they might have where the chances are they will find the answer and only if they cant then start a thread where people will help, failure to do that should result in infractions leading to bannings,it may sound harsh but i believe it would be effective.
Well I am of the mindset to simply provide a noob with a reply or information regarding their question while others choose to gang up, berate and rudely direct them to search for themselves, c'est la vie. All of this contributes to a cluttered and chaotic thread. We were all noobs once, remember that.

Unfortunately whilst we're all indeed noobs once, some of us read and search, rather than post new threads.
I've been following airbus twitter for quite a while now and something that bothered me after some time was the numerous attempts for donations while the progress was none... saying that he needed more ram... showing his laptop going berserk while compiling... posting pictures and links of the new computer he needed... and his progress was always two steps behind cm9 while he owes me nothing and
i respect his work even though he didn't accomplished nothing new he's learning from the experience and i had some fun following him on twitter. the subliminal donation messages became very annoying after a while... and why post a dozen threads of alpha roms where none is daily material ? i don't understand it ...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
to add my opinion here, airbus never asked for a donation directly or never gave assurance that he will fix all the existing problems. Normally its the othe forum members who flooded the thread with ETA and some OT discussion. preferably the mod could have cleaned the thread instead of closing it, i feel like a growing dev is being supressed. no offense to any one, just my opinion though

THREAD IS MOVED HERE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28131167&posted=1#post28131167
Considering there is no support to anyone using CheckROM on XDA as the thread was closed. I have created this thread for people to list issues with the ROM or any themes, fixes or general ROM related problems.
I tried this once before a moment ago but it was closed by conantroutman because he is a really cool guy and obviously incredibly intelligent and knows exactly what has happened.

General discussion means anything general. I believe you have no grounds to stand on closing that thread. Prove me wrong
First of all, this "general discussion" thread is nothing more than a thinly veiled excuse for you to rant about the fact that this particular ROM is not being updated as quickly as you would like and/or because the developers have decided to focus on a newer device over the SGSII. That is their decision, deal with it.
As for the problem with checkrom.com, that's a checkrom.com issue not an XDA-Developers issue. Take it up via the proper channels. (Hint, XDA is not the proper channel)
As I said before, if you have an issue with somebody, resolve it via PM. Due to the way you have chosen to word the OP this thread would only lead to you being flamed and we wouldn't want that now would we?.
This is a development forum, not a place for gossip and idle chit chat.
These are the grounds upon which I stand, consider yourself proven wrong.
I appreciate that you're a little miffed so here's a particularly adorable kitten to cheer you up. Have a nice day.

He never responded to either of my PMs even considering that is what to do first. Instead he posted it in the thread like a hero and gave me no chance to defend myself.
I was never trying to say anything else other than GadgetCheck and Leomar hyped up an unreleased ROM encouraged people to donate and took donations only to not actually do anything they said they were going to do. They have a donate button for a reason. To encourage further development (Which was already told was happening months ago) and to also give them a pat on their backs for what they have done already. I know for a fact many users donated solely on the fact there was going to be an ICS release as soon as jkay was ready and then again in June (Both times it never happened)
Now you can close this thread again, you can ban me, mute me and do anthing your powers provide. It is just solidifying my argument about CheckROM and proving that you're a macho moderator.
I am putting money on it that this thread will be closed. THERE IS NO REASON TO CLOSE IT. I'm not taking peoples money and running. Let the public speak.
I am not trying to get unbanned from checkrom.com I don't even care, my point was to strengthen my original argument of being mislead. And proved it I did
If you had actually read everything in my original thread you would have still closed it but you wouldn't have replied the way you did mate.
I posted this here on purpose to get the attention of certain people. I do apologise for my actions and I was a bit of a douche
If you have a problem with a moderator, take it up with the moderator committee, instead of creating a thread in a development section.
Cheers.
People, we are moving far too many questions into Q&A!
If your question has a [Q] in front of it, it DOESN"T BELONG IN GENERAL!!
Even if there isn't a [Q] there, if it's a question, it DOESN'T BELONG IN GENERAL!!
Please, post in the appropriate forum
Why not redirect threads marked with [Q] automatically to Q&A? People won't stop posting questions in the General section

I see that the people posting in the General section at least mark the thread as question. So redirecting it automatically could reduce something like 60%+ of the questions here.
Do they know what Q&A is?

It's not that they don't know what Q and A is, its just that they think that the question will be solved faster if its in a section where a lot of users visit (more interesting).
But their logic is flawed, since a big flame feast will start the moment they do that lool
I haven't opened a new thread to ask a question in a while, but as far as i know, if you check the box "this is a question" you get an additional warning that posting it in any other section than q&a is a rule violation and one has to confirm to actually post it.
that means that those people clearly violate forum rules after being warned about it. in some devices' sections, threads like that are deleted without further notice, because the moderators don't see themselves as maids for lazy or impudent users.
also, it should be noted, that posting problems, bugs or hardware issues also counts as posting a question.
that means:
- hardware issues should be posted in existing threads of the same issue and for every broken button, the bezel, the display and the battery there already is at least one thread in Q&A.
- hardware issues with accessories should be posted in the accessories section (also in existing threads, where applicable).
- problems with certain apps can be discussed in the themes and apps section, if they are published there, or in Q&A, if not.
- problems that apply to specific roms only should be discussed in the rom's development thread (except for CM), if that helps getting rid of bugs.
If you are a new user that does not yet have the permission to post in development, search if the bug or problem you want to report is already posted, if not, you can either get to the post minimum (without spamming!) to post there yourself or ask in Q&A.
It is so easy and self-explanatory, I don't see, why people keep breaking those rules.
Well the last thing I want to do is warn and/or infract people for posting questions here, but I have to say, this is ridiculous. Dozens and dozens of reports a day (if it weren't for Chef Tony this would be even worse) of questions posted here in General.
Post in the proper forum!!! We have much bigger fish to fry than to constantly have to fix your mistakes! Sorry, but at this point I am thoroughly frustrated. Official warnings and infractions from now on, especially if you've put that [Q] there and ignored the warning.
It's simple why they doesn't follow the rules... they just doesn't read the rules You can just tap I accept and done. Who likes to spend a lot of time reading rules? 90% [i think it's really 90%] here doesn't read it. But most of them just know what they can and cannot do.
