[Q] New Motorola Defy XT - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey here is the new variant of our beloved DEFY.
Motorola Defy XT
I just want to know if all the development thats going on for the Defy such as CM7 CM9 etc will it work for XT too?? coz it has front facing VGA camera which non of the previous defys have
Hey do vote for the poll above

Wow. The specs are almost the SAME of the Defy+, just has a new design and a front-facing camera!

Nice one.... liked the interface... kind diferent... looks a droid in front and a defy in back...

any one has a system dump of XT535
sbf is at http://www.mod2xtreme.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1256
beware.... dont use that sbf... on ordinary defy

Please use the Q&A Forum for questions &
Read the Forum Rules Ref Posting
Thanks ✟
Moving to Q&A

i think it has a Qualcomm MSM7227A chipset
so it has nothing to do with defy or defy plus

So this is the defy which would have an ics....Every update-new phone...Though it looks nice..

Thanks i got that link for sbf. But i want to know if the CMs and MIUIs would work on this phone or not

Is there any established method to root Defy XT ?
Not sure if the information is already available.
I am not able to decide between Defy+, Defy XT and Xperia Ray. Your answer would help.

among those xperia ray seems to be the best . you can also try htc one v.
xperia ray has good support as well.

Thanks for suggestion.
My dillema :
If I go for Defy+ : I get biggest user available memory - approx. 1.2 GB but will not get ICS from motorola. I have to update CM9 which is not yet stable. And I have never done so in the past.
If I go for Defy XT : I am going to get ICS from motorola but not the 1.2 GB memory and I dont know it is rootable or not. That is why my first question - is Defy XT rootable ? If it is rootable, I can remove some app and free up some space.
If I go for Xperia Ray : It is also ICS promised. But has 300/350 MB user available memory and it is a delicate phone. Not as sturdy as defy series. Also it is the costliest among all three.

I'm sure defy + will get a stable cm9 build soon (thanks to developer here)
defy xt should be rootable(if not , there will be a solution soon)
xperia ray has already got ics in India, but the user interface is not that good .
now its your choice .

Infact I was also inclined to Spice Steller. It has got everything highly superior than Defy/Xperia except the user available memory - only 150 MB. And it has go amazing price - Rs. 9600 !! But it is not rootable so far so no way to free up space. There is already a thread here on it but no luck so far.

Superoneclick should be able to root Defy XT

Superoneclick works for almost all phones they say. Works for defy, defy+, fire xt, fire, cliq, cliq xt. So i guess should work for Defy XT too

Yes, I checked superoneclick thread and I agree that it can root most of the phones. However, I need defy xt in their compatibility list. Or somebody confirming that yes, it can be done with it. Plz. note that Spice steller could not be rooted through it.

should i get DEFY???

hi all , my w8 had so much problems lately my dad decided to trade it in (cause of faulty phone) and add some bucks for a better phone for me ..so i've been thinking what phone to get ..among the choices are ACE , xperia mini , and just recently i thought of defy cause someone said defy can get muiu and is quite cheap ...so should iget it?
what i am looking for - in order
-I WANT MIUIIII
-price
-speed
-durability
-root frinedliness
-community(roms , defs etc)
-camera...?
-design
my price range is about RM750xx in used is about US250 and i cant find for defy's price in malaysian website...so is this phone in my league?
oh and what is miui actually? and is there others phone i should consider?

I shouldnt buy it... These are my reasons:
Motorola updates (I think we will not see official ICS in DEFY+)
Locked Bootloader = No "perfect" or "easy" ICS CyanogenMod 9
Motorola lied about it ( Its a defy with "stock" clock processor values.. )
It only can use signed kernels (by motorola --> bootloader locked)
oh...but if i dont mind unlocking bootloader will it be good? i was traumatized by unlocking BL since i hard bricked b4...but this phone supports miui yes? and is it expensive? really intrested with this phone
Given phones that you listed Defy is a beast. Yeah, it has locked bootloader and a share of Motorola related issues but development community is awesome. You can get unofficial 2.3 from Moto (Defy+ port), CM7, MIUI and now work is done on Android 4.0. It's relatively cheap compared to other phones that are successful in terms of unnofficial support and it has pretty nice hardware.
---
-I WANT MIUIIII - done
-price - don't know about India but fairly cheap for that hardware
-speed - phone flies with CM7/MIUI/ICS, stock Moto software (2.2) not so much
-durability - very good, no scratch besides drop related (chest height onto pavement)
-root frinedliness - one-click root
-community(roms , defs etc) - awesome support
-camera...? - average
-design - basic matte finish, its beauty lies in simplicity
Yea man defy is best puck from this. Im writing to u from defy with android 4.0 so man... this phone is worth much more than hi is now

In My country its the same price for both models... i think that it will by same in your
good phone but os isn't the android 4.0....
I usually to wash it by water .
LOL my dad asked about the retailer through the phone he said this phone no good better don't buy ...and he don't sell it , motorola is extremely unpopular in malaysia
You can get Defy @ around $200-225..and i would say go for defy.its one of those phones which is in league with likes of htc desire, samsung galaxy s..don't think of ace ..GPU of galaxy S & defy are almost identical plus lots of mod's on defy.use wajkui for miui or use fresh miui release @ MIUI.US..I think you can check defy on ebay or at your KL malls at chinese stores or in silangor ..you may get it for cheap..i was in malaysia for sometime..
definitely!!!
tbh it would not be the best option atm
for a year ago it would be good as its c/p is high
but now i suggest u to get another one
Great phone and awesome devs, but I'd say no until the bootloader is unlocked
Sent from my MB525 using Tapatalk
Well. I would say may be not now. There are other good phones recently launched could be better buy e.g sony erricsson neo-V etc.
The dev work is picking up for neo-V and is having similar specs to defy with better CPU, HDMI and unlocked boot loader.

[Q] Convert the Milestone into an Atrix --> lap dock use?

Hello from Germany,
I hope my questionn isnt considered nonsense. Today, ive seen a good offer for the Motorola
Lap dock (was around 100 Euros). Since the Atrix and the Milestone share the mini usb and seem do be pretty similar in general (concerning the case)l i was wondering, if there is
any way to make the Milestone work in this special dock.
I love the idea of having a notebook-smartphone hybrid but dont want to change my phone (love the milestones keyboard).
Looking forward to hear what you guys think!
No
The answer to this question is simple no.
I have both the atrix and the milestone 2 and they don´t look to similar. Also the Lapdock needs a hdmi port of the atrix, the milestone hasn´t got one. Further more atrix is a dual core phone and has more ram. And thats not even the software site of it.
Sorry to say but this part is not useable for the milestone 2.
Were have you seen the lapdock for 100€?

[Q] Atrix or milestone 3?

Hi everybody!
Maybe I will sell my defy and I'm wondering which phone is better?
ATRIX or MILESTONE 3?
(I know...buying a new motorola with the bootloader locked its not the best deal...but in my country I dont have much choice)
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3709&idPhone2=4349
I dont realy like the qwerty keyboard on MM3 but I think it better...
Can you help me decide?
Thanks in advance.
Although its kinda a risky process, you actually can unlock the bootloader on the Atrix. We've got an excellent stable CM7 rom and a good number of ICS roms that are good enough to be daily drivers (mainly lacking video recording). I cant speak on the Milestone 3, but you cant really go wrong with the Atrix. It may not have as good specs, but the bootloader makes it more mod friendly.
wht abt atrix2

Adobe Flash Player on Android 4.1.1

If you need Flash Player on JellyBean, then do the following.
1. Download the Adobe Flash Player (v.11.1.115.12).
2. Copy the file to your device (tablet or a phone - it does not matter).
3. Install.
4. Start the browser.
5. Login to your browser settings and put the check in front of Flash Player.
6. Now you have the latest version of Flash Player!

This is not working as it should.
In defy 4.1 thread there is a guy saying that it has to do with some codec which maybe makes netflix not working either!
I have tried many flash players and no success, I think we will have to wait for quarx or epsylon or somebody else who makes it works!

I hope quarx fix it soon!
I tried flash player in an atrix with jb and it worked excellent!
It also depends on what browser you are using. Stock browser works fine, and Dolphin is easy to get working.

It is not working for us Bravo and Defy users, there is a codec which is broken and needs to be fixed as well.
It works partially, but when you try to see some flash videos or use youtube it freezes browser.

Then hang out at the Defy Forums . Its where I go when its slow here. Besides, they have the same bugs, glitches, and roms that we do (well, they have 1000x more niche roms, but they can all be ported rather easily). The Defy Forum is the best place to find updated info for our roms, mods, tweaks, tips, etc...
FYI -- The Bravo is basically a Defy Minus. A Defy minus the led flash, minus the 5mp camera, minus the GB kernel, minus the number of devs, minus the search button. Everything else is damn-near the same between the two phones; even our bootloaders are similar -- we have 9.12 and they have 9.10 -- its that .02 that keeps us from running GB kernels on the Bravo (other than the Bravo has different CG versions -- usually Defy CG value +1).

It's stuff like that that makes me wonder why companies decide to offer two almost identical models of phone, when they can save so much money offering one device. I love my bravo though, it's my first smart phone and I've had no complaints what so ever concerning Motorola. But it doesn't make logical sense to offer the same thing in a different body. Maybe someone can enlighten me.
Never thought about checking out the defy forums, thanks for the tip skeevy.

The multiple phone issue is for different markets\carriers. There's a lot of phones, especially Motorola phones, that are almost the same as the next one -- DroidX, Bravo, Defy, Defy+, Cliq2; all those phones listed can easily port from each other with just a few libraries different between them -- usually camera, gps, and sensors.
For example, all our Bravo roms used to be Defy Ports until Quarx started doing CM roms for us. All we have to change is 3 camera libs, imager_cfg.bin, rename /lib/hw/whatever.jordan.so to whatever.kobe.so, add in the Bravo baseband, and change the build.prop to have the Bravo labeling --- that method works on almost all Defy roms, Since then, we've had a few camera revisions so you have to try different releases for the camera libs (there's 2 for CM7, 3 for CM9, and 1 for CM10) and some ports require you to use libandroid_server.so from a Bravo CM Release or from Stock Froyo. I've ported a lot of Defy Roms -- WR, PIkachu, all Miui roms are all Defy Ports.
The only reason MS2 doesn't fully work is its framework specifically looks for the Defy camera libs and replacing them with Bravo libs causes it to freeze on boot. I think it may be possible to decompile\smali the MS2 framework-res.apk and framework.jar and add in the Kobe camera java code to them to make our camera work with MS2, I just haven't gotten around to trying it. So far all I've tried is replacing the tether java code with CM7's to get tethering to work for me. MS2\Moto Roms have a phone home code attached to the tethering so if you don't pay for tethering you can't use it -- I tether my home wifi, not 3G, so it really bugs me that I can't tether my wifi to my PC.

New ROM for Nokia X2.. Is it such a challenge for Android Devs!!

Hi every body. I wonder why there is no custom rom for Nokia X2 although there are dozens of custom roms for Motorola Moto E. I had a comparison on GSM arena, and I found that they are almost the same cpu , ram , camera , screen size : http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=6323&idPhone2=6383
. I like Nokia , but I'm starting to get frustrated because of this very weak and simple android introuduced in the Nokia x platform. I have been using android for over 4 years now. Nokia , in my opinion is a great phone manufacturer , but in terms of android, they are Newbies.
So, this is a request only addressed for Real Devs.. Is it possible to port a custom moto E rom to Nokia X2 ??
If Not , would it possible to replace the drivers in the Moto E custom rom with those of Nokia x2 to make it a working rom. I used to have a Huawei smartphone with lots of custom roms, and i managed to cook a miui rom from CM7. I'm not a dev, but I don't think it will be that difficult to do if some dev just guides me on how to do it.

Yes, I agree with you. Frankly I just need this Play store and Google Play services in order to play those apps.

Why you dont just installing 1MobileMarket Apps from Nokia Store to get your Google Apps?
Maybe some program was there. Alternatively, X2 still allow you to install from APK files.
And for me personally, Google Framework which is needed for Google Play and other Google App, will fill your memory and you get a huge laggines like other Android Device.
That's why Nokia build their own custom anything.
I never see such mid-end device playing almost 10 native multitasking apps smoothly without lag, even built-in Opera opening few tabs page inside. And your RAM still much to do other work. So, only X2 can do this, forget the OLD X,XL,X+ series and thrown in garbage. Personally I am satisfied with this condition, and enough to fill my daily use
Welcome to the new Nokia X (series) big improvement

And for me personally, Google Framework which is needed for Google Play and other Google App, will fill your memory and you get a huge laggines like other Android Device.
That's why Nokia build their own custom anything.
I never see such mid-end device playing almost 10 native multitasking apps smoothly without lag, even built-in Opera opening few tabs page inside. And your RAM still much to do other work. So, only X2 can do this, forget the OLD X,XL,X+ series and thrown in garbage. Personally I am satisfied with this condition, and enough to fill my daily use

I just want to have root access so my Clean Master, 1Mobile Market and Apptoide can install and uninstall without prompt. Even though I got an option to put Google Play Services, I choose not to so I can avoid that bootloop problem. I enjoy 3rd party app stores and I didn't see the need to install GApps.

NOKIA X2 FIRST CUSTOM ROM STOCK BASED HAVE A LOOK
Bahaa_Hawk said:
For the devs interested in that, Here's a link on Moto E 4.4.4 Rom

even Nokia X was left out for some days but its waking up.the main problem with Nokia is.it comes with dalvik and devs have to break their heads to make ART work.camera is unique and different from others.things from source can solved bugs I think..reason moto e is fast in devolopment is,its comes with kitkat.as most roms are.based on kitkat it is easy bring down to moto e.I can say that Nokia X is the cause for failure of X2 sales.just wait, things will be goog for us.......Nokia Rules
