Best Newest Most Stable Release. - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

I'm giving in and willing to try WP7 over WM6.5, so I'm looking for a pleasant experience and not wanting to run into bugs galore with poor builds. So I thought I'd ask which is the best most stable and up to date build around...
Things I'm looking for:
Ease of installation
Feature rich
HTC Hubs
3.5mm Headphones and mic or bluetooth support
Also will I still be able to boot my SD Card Android Boxmax or do I need to adjust something, add a new Wp7 app or what?
It'll be on a us t-mo phone, I'll comeback with more required answers when it's out of the shop, finally got the mobo swapped out with a good one, unfortunately the mobo had windows mobile on it and the cellphone repair shop wanted to charge me 60 bucks to flash WP7 to it, I already paid them 70 and when I very first took it in they offered to flash it to WP7 for free and now they won't.

The rom that i have is HD2 Pdaimatejam and it works perfectly compared to the other ones that reboot everything ou try to multitask, another one would be the
HD2O. And the android rom depends because i have tried mostly all of them that are sense 3.5 and they lag alot. If you are going to have sense get a sense 3.0 rom or below!!! That help even thought the design of 3.5 is sexy!!

Its the perfect one for sense

Cool, I hit your Thanks button...
Yea I remember initially reading about the HD2 Pdaimatejam and HD2O© WP7, which do you feel is the better of the two? Since we already are on the same page about "Sense" LoL
I love the Boxmax builds they're great, I'll have to that one a go.
I'm getting my HD2 back tomorrow. So I'll have to dig up and around on how to flash WP7 to the HD2.

all release is stable... mater of luck is compatibility of SDcard... almost all problems with WP7 ROM is related to SDcard

R 2.10.50.26
G 15.39.50.07u
D 2.13.90963 8g
Okay so what all does this tell you? Any bootloader info on there... I'm kinda scared to go into bootloader cause I know sometimes when ya do go in ya can't get back out unless ya flash a rom to it.

Those are the only realeases that do not do random reboot and that are awesome and the problem is not always the SDcard. It is us because sometimes we only download the rom and flash without reading its description (we dont read the thread, just look for download link and pictures), then are all exited and suddenly a sudden reboot and we are then we go back and read about the rom and we get

You can, just take off the battery and put it back in and power it on.

Okay so it says:
PB81120 SS-B3
SPL-2.10.0000 8G XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(Touch) 0x50

I don't see Tango 7.10.8773.98 listed anywhere PDAImateJam's site at all.... >_<
All I see is the old one Mango 7.10.8107.79, on his site and htcfanboys site.
What happened to it? LoL
Figured I'd start the download while reading and waiting on answers. LoL

Okay so which radio do I need or can I just go ahead and install with ROM v8.0 with radio 5.51 or do I need to install one of the hardware radios first?
I could use this one right? Hardware Radio 2.15 - flash version, boot to threecolor (bootloader) and flash it... Is it for t-mobile users too? Battery life not too worried about since I'll be getting an extended battery soon.
_
On the cards causing problems parts any feedback about an aData 32Gb Class 4 card?

Do I unzip Data.zip and Leo_Radio_2.15.50.14tmous.rar also or leave them as they are?
Got everything downloaded...
Plus is okay to take my microSD card out of the phone while installing, so SD Android doesn't get wiped out?

sd card must be in device when flashing wp7 rom and all data will be erased
read my tutorial from signature
also hardware radio (2.12 or 2.15) must be flashed... you dont touch data.zip!!!!!!!!
you unzip data.zip only if you want put software radio 5.51 for example inside and again zip to data.zip file

I don't need to flash to HSPL 2.08 do I according to my bootloader? I just need to flash to 2.15 radio and then flash MAGLDR and then WP7, right? I saw nothing in the tute saying yes or no about a HSPL being higher than 2.08, acording to my bootloader I can tell what HSPL I have right?

if you have never flashed HSPL before or if you have and got rid of it then it is vital you do this FIRST as this prevents your hd2 from being bricked

Okay so flash HSPL then Radio then WP7 or Flash Radio then HSPL then WP7?

Hspl>radio>magdlr>wp7

And I should choose 2.08 I guess, I tried updating the radio a few minutes ago with LeoAdvancedRUU and it didn't work it just sat there, hopefully there's another way to update the radio or I'll be stuck.
_
Got HSPL 2.08 installed, now how can I successfully flash to 2.15 tmous radio since LeoAdvancedRUU radio update didn't work. Or should I try LeoAdvancedRUU again or is there another way to update the radio?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aS011l0saU8

Got done one question though what is all this multi-touch driver junk and which is best or recommended..
kmdtouch.dll
8k_touchpdd_res.dll
cotullatouch.dll
Nevermind chose one anyways.
Question though anybody know how I can import contacts from an .xml file?
Or anyway to import contacts from android to wp7, cause I guess I could update contacts from my lg fathom sync them via funambol then import them from funambol to android and then "however way from android to wp7"
Also I keep getting a market place error, is that cause wp7 isnt activated yet?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10566003#post10566003
Do I need to do all this with Pdaimatejam ROM 8779 v8.1 or can I just get a product key and activate it that way...
Scratch all that, it's activated and marketplace is working but when installing some app's they show up with asain characters is there a way to change this and rename them?

for which reason? no need for this (ROM is already full unlocked, Chevron is useless), forget it... simple get live activation code from microsoft and use it every time when flash new ROM...

Does Android require root?

The phone isn't mine. It is a lady friend of mine and I'm just curious if it would run on the default OS because her phone isn't rooted and I don't want to root her phone for insurance purposes.
If it can run on it is it the same process as doing it on a Touch Pro? I used to have a Touch Pro and it was as simple as putting the downloaded files on the memory card and launching Haret.exe so I do have some experience with Android on Windows builds.
Some people reported that it does run on the defaul OS. But you still have to flash HSPL and I think you'll maybe need an other radio like 2.12 or 2.14.

Thanks... I guess I'll have to void it and if anything tell her I can flash it back to normal if anything happens to it.
Yes, I think you'll have to but flashing back and gettin it to factory settings is easy.. so you don't have to hesitate if you know what you are doin.
Edit: Chance to brick it actually is very small, just be shure you don't use a radio with .51 then is everything ok

What the hack are you talking about first you don't need hspl to run android from sd. Just the radio has to be higher than 2.08. You get this if you update your phone tothe latest version. For United states people you can do it on t-mobile site as far as I know. For evry other user the htc site should work.

Sorry I maybe was a little bit rude to you
Maybe it was because it looks like bad news for our great devices wich it isn't
HTC just released an update for all other versions except the t-mobile version. Wich the latest radio 2.15. As far as I know t-mobile roms had always higher than 2.08. And with latest updates it is 2.12 I tought.
But you are right for flashing another radio.

No it's okay. It's not like I would have to cry now
Well, you have to know my last visit on the HTC site is long time ago since I'm using Android on daily base and a custom WinMo ROM When I started my phone had a 2.05 radio and I didn't knew they have released such a big update. I'm not very interersted in WinMo anymore. But thanks for the update anyway.
Cheers
Thanks guys well I'll be updating her phone as I'm sure she hasn't done so at all. If I need anything else I'll post back here. I don't plan on doing it until Monday regardless so I haven't had much time with her phone.
You don't need HSPL to run Android. I don't have HSPL and I use Android every day.
Before you bother to update, turn the phone on and look next to the letter 'R' down near the bottom in red that appears before Windows loads up.
Those numbers next to the 'R' are the radio version.
If the third number is 50 (X.XX.50.XX) instead of 51 or 52 or anything else, then you don't need to update your radio or ROM or anything.
You just need a X.XX.50.XX radio.
If it's not, then yes, you'll need to update.
But after that, it's really easy.
Just download your preferred build, unzip it, and place the Android folder on the root of your sd card (inside of no folders, just on the sd card, dont put your Android folder int a folder).
I would also suggest installing in Windows Mobile the Exceller Android/Ubuntu loader. Then its easier for your lady friend to launch Android from Windows, and you can set the loader to automatically launch Android when she turns her phone on.
As far as 'root', all that means is having permission from the operating system to access and write to the root filesystem in Android. By default, users are denied access to this, and so cannot change much in Android and thats what the big deal about having root is. But guess what? These builds that run from the sd card already have root access, so you are already a step ahead of a person who goes and buys an Android native phone. They have to go through some hackery to get what we already have ;-D
Running Android on HD2 (originally WinMo 6.5 Phone) - both TMOUS and International ones - doesnt require you to have HSPL the phone (if u want to know this... for HTC warranty sake)
Android will run from your SD card. Android flavour will be rooted or mat not be rooted depends on the developer.
First unzip the Android flavour in your SD card and run android.. if there is Robo voice then its all along a different story
Update:
Well I tried using one android build with a stock HD2 with the proper radio xx.xx.50.xx etc. After the linux screen starts loading only 4 lines of text quickly flash then I'm shown an HTC logo which it gets stuck at. Any rom recommendations for stock HD2's not rooted?
Any info would be great. Thank you all for your help.

It can take a while the first time you boot sometimes... it may stay on the htc logo screen up to 15 minutes first boot depending on build, data size, and sd card speed.
Otherwise just try another build.

So none of the builds here are compatible with tmo hd2?

i was thinking of getting a miui rom for my hd2 but upon reading how to flash hard spl i came across something that said that not all builds are compatible with the tmo hd2 is this true? does this mean i can run miui on my hd2?
i saw this video an it seems his phone is tmo also, so can i just put any build on my tmo hd2?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRRWBp5l9jk
I believe you just have to find a certain HSPL first for the TmoUS HD2. I have one and I have no problem running any of the Android builds. There is a separate guide for HSPL the TmoUS HD2. I believe it was this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614 . As for the android builds, just set up T-Mobile APNs if its not already there, and if you're in the US some of them may require you to download Morelocale2 from the Market to change it to English US.
Here's another recent TMOUS build, found this on page 2 of this forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=820696
Hi all! i have tmous, and i can use the more of android rom. Currently used by vbn rom, it's good because stock 885 mb and 443 Mb RAM and frees me up in it autoboot. MIUI ruins only problem I've tried the ringtones do not play I do not know why. The cyanogen and running and the evo is going to ruin. The definition does not always succeed in ruins.
My phone TMOUS
Radio 2.15.50.14
rom 3.14.351.1
I have used alot of builds on my tmous HD2 for ages, even without putting HSPL on my device. All these builds should work even on a completely factory device. Although, i think you have to enter apn settings to get data working for tmo, i have never used tmo so i have no experience with that.

First of all, your question doesn't belong in this forum. If you'll post your question in the proper place, you will probably find more help.
Secondly, HSPL has NOTHING do do with android on the TMOUS HD2.
The flash update programs (and HSPL) will not run on a MAC. You will either have to use a Windows machine OR use Virtual Box with Windows on the MAC. If any of this is over your head, you should probably do some more research before trying to flash your phone.
I did some research i didnt know it would be a problem that i was using a mac... so i download virtualbox an then?
Bootcamp is your friend
ok so after i install hspl do i still need windows to install builds or am i ok with a mac to install builds?
first...let me be clear.....you don't need to do hspl, you don't need custom rom to have android on your hd2. all you need to have is a radio version of 2.08 or above...since yours is a tmous, it mostly will have a radio above 2.08
you run android from sd card, so all you need to do is to drag and drop the build of android onto your sd card...windows/mac doesnt matter for dragging and drop files to sd card
all android builds in this forum run on tmous well, so just stop losing yourself too deep into the forums, check your radio version..if it is.>2.08.xx....copy any android folder to sd card and you are good to go ! ..if radio is less than 2.08, then all you need is to do hspl, flash only a higher radio (no need for custom ROM)
hope that makes it clear to you

Going from Win Mo 6.5 to Android

Has anyone gone from Win Mo 6.5 to Android on their HTC HD2? Was it easy to do? What files would I need to back up etc? And is it worth doing?

Apologies accepted since you missed alot of threads ! Most of us have Android on our HD2's .
It was very easy but you must do somethings first to guarantee a working Android on your HD2 . (Read the Guide on my Sig. )
You don't need to backup anything as the current Android doesn't touch your internal device memory (i.e. WinMo system files) It will run off your sd card.
Have fun

I ran EVO android from SD without having to mod my OEM phone.
Just make sure you do follow the directions and update the kernel as some may leave the kernel out of the bucket of legs and thighs.
It did mess with my time and date everytime I booted back into the phones OS but everything else pretty much was the same.
No speed improvements, may be a wee faster if loaded on phones memory.
Evertything the EVO Android had I had on my OEM phone, just different names on some apps.
Once I got my WM6.5 setup properly Android was usless to me.
Like linux it is a sloooooooooo booter. That is the deal breaker for me.
I like 30 second boots at the most. 20 seconds for a desktop is slow!
HD2 will live!!
HD2 with its name LEO is really a king to the jungle out there with its new era of a great processor, an outstanding screen and a sexy look!!
Wm 6.5 is fine but android really excells in combining wm and ios and making a neat interface with user friendly handling!
I'm so meticulous with my device and using stock rom and radio, i tried android from one of the great builds done by MDJ (thanx a lot to him)
It doesn't do any harm coz i didn't need to upgrade rom nor ram and everything is dealt with thru sdcard
if u don't like it; just format or erase the android folders or just leave it there if u have a big memory
it's awesome by all means!! give it a try u wont loose anything!!

Hi there
Are you saying, that you've managed to run adndroid on your leo with stock Rom and radio? Thing is, that I would also like to try android on my handset, but I'm too scared to hurt it in any way - hence not too keen on changing rom / radio - which seem to be only way according to info I've managed to find so far
Would you care to share your phone configuration, to see what you're running?
Many thanks.

Your current configuration won't run Android. It needs a radio of at least 2.08.50 (MUST be a .50, NOT a .51!!!) The ROM is irrelevant - only the radio matters to Android.
There is an official ROM upgrade available that takes you up to a 3.14 ROM with a 2.15.50 radio, but I don't know if you can use that without HSPL as you have a branded handset.
It may be possible to just upgrade the radio, from the HD2 ROMs thread, and leave your Windows ROM as it is.

They are two separate systems - WinMo in the phone's ROM and Android on the Phone's SD Card.
The only real requirement is that your RADIO must be at least 2.08.50 (any one higher than that with a .50 will do). So you need to know what software you already have:
Settings -> About phone -> Software information. Here you will see the Rom, Radio versions. If the radio is not correct, then we'll go through the procedure on how to update it.
The chefs in the Android ROM section give details on what you download and how to set it up.
As for backing up, there should be no need to (as they are independent systems), but better safe than sorry; install SPB Backup. Even if you weren't thinking of running Android, having a backup is always advisable.
mismatch
I have a bootscreen on WM that shows 3.14 as the ROM but in Settings/phone/ software information it still shows 1.48 and a date of 09/29/10.
Is this normal? does this mean my upgrade failed?
Radio release is same on both - 2.15.50.14

Don't worry about what is says when Windows is running. The value shown then is from the registry, so it can be changed. Have you done a restore from a backup application by any chance?

Quick WP7 advice

Hey guys, I got a second hand HD2 from ebay, so far i;ve been using it with android running from the SD but now i'e decidedto give wp7 a try.
the device came with MAGLDR 11.13 & WP7 7.0.7004.0 pre installed. I'm not sure which actual ROM it is.
I;ve read all the guides on updating to a newer ROM from the dev section of this forum, but im worried about nricking the device.
when I plug my phone into the Zune application to sync music, it offers me an update. I tried this update but it failed, is there any way I can update easily through Zune? or do I need to reflash a ROm such as this one.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1157535
Also, in my current situation, is it as simple as downloading the ROM & running the EXE with the phone plugged in?
I wnt a later version formnumerous reasons, mainly the lackofmauto focus in the camera z- allphotos are blurry!
SOrry for being captian n00bing, im just startiong out with WP7!
Hi,
It's not possible to update your HD2 WP7 with Zune. It's only for official WP devices.
To flash new WP rom, I advice you to begin with a Task29 (clean the phone), flash radio (2.15.... recommended), flash MAGLDR 1.13, and flash the WP rom you want.
Good luck

Thanks for the reply mate.
Task29 clears the NAND if im correct, will that remove MAGLDR too? So I'll have to reflash MAGLDR 1.13?
Can anybody provide me with a n00by-friendly link to a guide on this? The phone came with MAGLDR 1.13 so i;ve no experience with WP7! I'm an Android man!
Could you also recommend a stable day-to-day ROM? I'm not bothered about Mango (unless theres a super-stable version) so anything NoDo would be fantastic.

in some cases task29 has created some issues with Wp on the HD2
just boot in to MAGLDR, go to USB flash, connect it to your PC and then run the exe from the ROM of your choice, i would strongly recomend staying with Yukis ROM, if you have issues with it then consider SD Card flashing a stock WM ROM and starting again. HSPL>RADIO>MAGLDR>WP7
The SD card is the problem, if you get one that works, you'll be fine, there is NO compatible list of SD card!

[Q] HTC HD2 Telstra help please

Hi Everyone.
This is my first post but i have been an enthusiastic reader for some time.
I know the answers to my problems are out there but im finding there is so much information im drowning and totally lost on what i need to do.
I want to put Android on my Telstra HTC HD2 T9193 via SD.
The SPl is 1.66
ROM = 1.72.841.0 WWE
RADIO = 2.07.51.22_2
Some sources say i need to go back a version before i can HSPL1, Some say i need to upgrade my radio, some say my telstra version is painful to change.
I believe the steps i need to take are:
1.Upgrade to the newest HTC Stock. But i cannot find a ROM to suit the Telstra phone.
2. So i need to use the HSPL method to change my radio?
3. Install HSPL4
4. Install the custom ROM
5. change the radio but i am unsure which one i get?
I think i have it mostly muddled up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Sej
assuming you want nand android
hspl4
choose 2.08.hspl
flash any radio with a x.xx.50.. version, higher than 2.07.50
flash magldr
flash cwm
flash android
Hi thanks.
I actually wanted to use the SD Roms.
Thanks

Flash HSPL4
Flash radio above 2.08.50 (I'd go 2.15.50)
Run your SD Android ROM.
in addition to what orangekid has posted, in case you're after the custom rom:
Flash HSPL4
Flash radio above 2.08.50 (I'd go 2.15.50)
Flash custom rom
->in my case, i'm using chuckyrom lite for my wm6.5. i noticed that flashing the radio to 2.15, keeping the t-mob stock rom and running an android sd rom caused a lot of lags. not to mention the famous sod (sleep of death).
Run your SD Android ROM.
-> i've been using mccm hd 4.5 and it's simply working great for me. do take note that there are tons of roms you can try. what you can do is try out each of them and determine which one works well for your unit. what may be working flawlessly for me or the other members could turn out to be a lemon for you. thus, try them out and you should be able to find the right rom for your device

This is sound advice Personally I prefer NRG for WinMo and ACA for Android
Hope you've made some progress here... I've been watching this space for more than a year and finally decided it was safe enough to make a move.
My HD2 has the standard ROM, I flashed several radios with varying degrees of success in terms of sensitivity, power consumption, telstra compatability. Settled on 2.15.50.14 for now. Testing continues.
Installed JaguarMIUI-V16.7 on a new class 6 4Gb MicroSD.
I have no luck formatting SDs (x2) for my HD2 (have to reseat sd after bootup to get the card recognised) and this one is screaming and stable without being formatted, just copy on the files into Android and Miui folders in the root of the card.
I have a boot loader installed but don't use it as the build is so stable it's not a problem to open file explorer in Windows, tap clrcad.exe then haret.exe the few time a reboot is required/desired.
Enjoy!
Hi Saj,
I had the same problem..
I found that you had to go backwards to go forward as Telstra Locked the ROM.
Basically i had to comb the web and find an older version of the Telstra ROM...
from there I had to use MAGLDR 1.13 to load the boot file
it did however wipe the WM6.5 completely off the phone.
I am now using a Port for ICS and i have never been happier
I will see if I can find the original post for this on the web and let you know
