Hey fellow xda-ers. I purchased a mytouch 4g through a friend that had a broken digitizer. I was fine with the cracked digitizer because the phone worked fine, the top glass was just broken. I dropped the phone the day after I got it and it immediately showed no signal. I figured I knocked off the antenna wire (from what I hear, it's as common with these as it was with the g1). Well since I had to take the phone apart, I figured I would order the new digitizer to replace while it was apart. I even broke down and bought the whole OEM digitizer and LCD combo.
This is where I'm having a problem.
I had no problem with disassemby. The clips came apart very easily and the shattered screen came out after a little finesse with a pry tool and hair dryer. I installed the new one with silicon and let it sit overnight to dry just to make sure.
I went to re-assemble the phone. Everything seemed to go into place like it should. I clipped everything back where it was suppose to go, paying careful attention to the power button. I clipped the see through black plastic piece onto the back of it and installed the screws so I could take it for a test run.
When it turned on, I was happy, I though I was done. But then it booted up to the bootloader. I couldn't press any of the hard keys. They were all jammed. I got a extra keypad, housing, and motherboard from a friend that fried his mt4g but same thing. I clip the phone together and the buttons get stuck.
TL;DR Im experienced with phone repairs. I replaced the digitizer on my mt4g. The hard keys at the bottom of the phone keep getting stuck.
I'm completely stumped. Someone please tell me its something simple that I'm missing. I've logged over 8 hours into trying to fix this between taking it apart, putting together, and testing it.

Ok, some history first...
I bought my Herald 1 year ago, and after 3 months of proud ownership i dropped it into the toilet. (was just changing to my swimsuit in case you are wondering)...
After that underwater experience, the only kink was that the End button stopped functioning.
Fast forward to the present day. After opening my phone with the help of the service manual i found out that the fault was with the flex cable (the cable that has the keypad buttons, and connects the screen to the phone board)
So i hopped on Ebay and ordered a new cable, along with a new housing as my old one was full of dents, and had the parts delivered today.
I opened my happy ol' Herald, removed the screen protector (this is an important bit, just stay with me) and changed the cable and housing, hoping to transform it to almost-new condition.
After doing the transplant, and hoping that everything went fine, i closed everything and booted the phone up.
The End key functionality was restored, but the Touch Screen STOPPED WORKING!!!. It was registering some very strange positions and as i lifted the pen the cursor was yanking to the right, so i tried the first obvious thing of Align Screen. Since that wasn't registering ANY positions, i reopened the phone, reseated all the cables and still nothing was happening.....
I was at the brim of despair, after 5 hours of screwing, testing, unscrewing etc... and was leaving work... and just as i was packing everything up i picked up the old dirty and worn Screen Protector and tacked it on the screen (and since it was on my office the whole time it got very very dirty).
And lo and behold, everything worked with the screen protector on!!!
So this is the story....
Now, i have a couple of questions:
1) Anyone has a logical explanation about this??
2) I'm afraid to remove the screen protector in case i lose the touch screen again, so now i have a brand-new looking phone with a screen that looks like it was run over. What do you think will happen if i remove it?? (maybe open a poll on this)
3) I also yanked the keyboard (after discovering that its held with Glue on the casing). Now i have it tucked in place but it's not glued. Anyone now what glue is safe to use to make it stick in place ??
Hello everyone..I recently replace the lcd for my niki htc...I bought the screen from ebay for $35 (plus shipping). Everything works fine but sometimes when i slide the phone the screen is wably or it looks like something is not connected and it moves but when i close it and i restart it again. it's fine or if i let it for awhile like that (so it goes on and off). So my question is...Is it the manufacture that made the screen, or is it something that it hasn't been connected right?
The other question is that my digitizer is broken in the up left corner and im thinking to replace it does any one can tell me how to take of the digitizer. i have found this website :http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/razbor_htc_touch_dual/ but it stops at the screen it doesn't tell you about the digitizer.
And the 3rd question is about that little piece it has fallen from somewhere while i dismantling my phone, i took a picture of it so someone can tell me what it is and where it goes.

It says that you can not disassemble it without replacing the speaker!
When you remove the speaker you need a new one. (or at least this is how I understood it
Maybe that part is the door for the MicroSD Card slot?
no i opened the cellphone 6 to 7 times so far. all you have to do is to unscrew the small screw that keeps the speaker in place so you can have more space to work with it.
all you have to do is to take off the digitiser where it gets connected. take the screen off. and raise the little black strip where the digitizer stripwires come out and push out the digitizer. it feels liked it doesn't go out but if you push it carefully it will. they have glue it with some kind of glue that it doesn't come off the digitizer but it stays on the cellphone so you can put in place your new digitizer...

I just replaced my digitizer today (bought the handset from ebay - faulty touch screen). The little rubber that covers the speaker fell out in my hand when I was dismantling mine, so maybe thats what it is (looks similair).
Oh a quick question - after replacing my digitizer, my touch screen still doesnt work, even after hard reset - when asking to 'tap screen to set up device' it wont respond to any taps. Any ideas ?

my friend i think you have a bad digitizer, some people on ebay send defective digitizer and especially when they are from china they don't really care about sending a good one.... I had to send mine back 3 times!!!! i just got the last one 3 days ago and it took me at least a month and a half to send me a working one...If you pay with paypal...Tell the ebay user to send you a good one...Do not!! Do not!! send feedback until you got a good digitizer....Mostly it has to do with the connectors i guess where the digitizer connects.... Tell them that you need a new one and you can't wait for very long...tell them this is a customers cellphone and you need to have it fixed as soon as possible.. If they don't want to exchange for a new one dispute the payment!!! Don't wait too long...Do it Asap... As i told you there lots of defective digitizers....I had reset mine also but nothing happens i believe this is mostly hardware problem...If you have any questions about how to dismantle ask me... I have open my cellphone over 10 times cause of the digitizer
Thanks Nikos, Im fine with opening these devices they are easy enough to work with.
I purchased a digitizer for a Polaris not long ago and it worked perfect. Im gonna take the Nike apart tonight again and adjust/fiddle with the connections to make sure - I dont want to wait another 2 weeks for a replacement digitizer and pay for postage lol.
But i guess if it doesnt work tonight I will have to 'grin and bear it' and send it back
Just built in a replacement digitizer. Everything works quite well, some inaccuracies in the lower parts of the touch screen, but it works.
I managed to leave over a screw. And a barely visible stain between the Digitizer and the LCD.
But at least it is working again as a replacement phone and for testing various stuff...
btw, now knowing the phone from inside, that part could be the "door" between the SIM slot and battery. or the rubber part that directs sound to the microphone on the bottom front PCB.

I have a big problem and hope someone who opened already a topaz can help me.
The Touchscreen of the Topaz broked, after the device fall an the floor, the display it self worked after that fine, so I decided to buy me a new digitizer.
The installation of that in the Topaz case worked very good, only the 4-pin connector for the digitizer cable didn't wont to do his work. Some black very small plastic "holder" part which seems to press some of the pins together, at the digitizer connector on the board didn't want to do what is his work.
I tried to press it back in but it didn't work. And now it jumped by pressing away, and I can't find it.
So this is how the story goes.
I hope some one have a Idea for this problem.
If I switch the device on the new digitizer don't work, so it seems that the plastic part is doing something.
It's only a way of put some pressure on the pins to ensure it's not falling apart whilst putting the phone back together. Just fold a paper to the right size and stick it in. Mind the side where you have to put it.

My GPS can't get a fix. It had this when I bought it, but even with another GPS board it can't connect. This is what I did:
So my old HD2's touchscreen and buttons stopped working... They were already replaced by the previous owner.
I bought an old bricked HD2 (So I could put my working mainboard in there) and disassembled the phone. It wasn't as hard as I had expected, but the iFixit guide is excellent. So taking that one apart was fairly easy. I logged every part, putting it in a seperate bin.
Taking my old phone apart was a pain in the rear. The other guy who replaced it used hot glue to hold the LCD to the midframe, and some gnarly sticky tape to hold the midframe to the rear shell . As I used a hair dryer and a suction cup to remove the outer shell, I pulled out the LCD + digitizer instead of the entire inner phone. I was like WTF?. (Yes I removed all the screws)
But eventually I managed to take it apart. I removed the mainboard without damage. Because I wasn't sure about the parts in my phone, I just used everything from of the bricked phone. The flex cable, camera, BT coaxial cable, GPS board and the white GPS cable. Even the screws and the rear shell. The only thing I used from my phone was the mainboard. Nothing else!
But even with all the new surplus parts it can't get a fix! I run Hyperdroid 5.8, I used the Leo GPS injector. Is this due to Android or is the problem on the mainboard? Because I don't have a clue where I should look now.
I'd be very pleased if I could fix it! I want to go geocaching with it!

EDIT: Everything else just works just excellent. Bluetooth, cellphone, WiFi, vibrating, speaker, flash, etc.
After Flashing WinMo 6.5 and letting it sit 30 minutes outside, it finally got a fix... Hell yeah!

What a story!!
I bought a galaxy note 4 right on launch day first thing in the morning. Ive had just about every phone but have been waiting for a while now to get my hands on the new note 4.
I ended up buying the phone at the St . Bruno shopping center in Quebec, Canada and once i singed all the papers for my contract and got home, I finally open the box and took the phone out of the box. I loved it, it did everything one would expect from the highest end phone on the market.
A week later however, I started noticing that my buttons, especially my home button were slightly loose and my phone was also developing a weird oil spot under the home button.
So I went back to videotron but this time at St. Catherine street corporate branch store and the manager there obviously didnt know much about phones because he looked at it and proceeded with putting windex on a paper towel and wiping my screen with it and than told me that theres nothing wrong with it.
After frustratingly explaining everything to him, he told me that if the phone makes calls and works, than these issues arent covered for any kind of exchange as its not affecting the functionality of the phone. My logic tell me however that if one buy's a ferrari and realizes that the paint is f-up, wouldn't the dealership do something about it??? Anyways, without any luck I eventually left disappointed.
The following week After exhaustive attempt to solve the matter with Videotron to no avail, I found out that there was a store here in montreal called Service Absolute which is a samsung repair center that I could bring my phone to. I called them first to not waist more of my time and was than informed that yes they could help me but that it could take nearly a month before they would have any parts for this phone.
So after patiently waiting, I finally got a call back from them and droped off my phone the following day. I only had to wait two days before i got my phone back and thought that the turn around time was great! Only after few minutes of playing with it however, I noticed that the phone's new screen which now didn't have the oil spot was actually lifting from the housing about 1mm at the top of the phone and that the buttons were all still loose.
Its easy to imagine at this point how infuriated i was with all the time spent dealing with a phone that should of been right in the first place.. All the waiting, calling and runaround I got only to get a phone that was now even worst!! I could actually see inside my phone and behind the screen. Dust was starting to get inside the phone and under the camera lens and so on and I was really starting to freak out and was completly desperate to fix this issue asap to prevent things from getting worse and worse.
So I decided at this pont to take matters in my own hands and use my old trusty screwdriver to take this thing apart and get
To the bottom of the loose buttons and screen seperation.. I know! Scray [email protected]$ but it had to be done because at this point I needed a working phone for work and nobody seemed to help me. So after watching a few youtube videos, I unscrewed the screws at the back and gently seperated the phone from the metal frame with my fingers.
The whole assembly came out of the metal frame the same komd of way the old HTC phones used to. After doing so, the first thing i found out was that if your going scatch your phones metal frame which makes up most of the phone outer surfice, it's no big deal as it can be swapped out for around 40 to 50 bucks.
Next I noticed that all the buttons (volume and power) aren't adheared to the frame but only clipped in with a few pins stratigically placed. So its normal that they have play and wiggle. They're not gonna break and we're likely engineered to be this way. The wiggling is not really important as it won't affect anything on the phone's motherboard.
The next thing I noticed was that the glue between the inner midframe (the part that holds the motherboard to the screen assembly) also wasn't glued properly and was able to gently seperate it from the lcd/digitizer assembly without a heat gun or anything.. after doing so, the home button fell out and was simply dangling from its flex cable. It wasn't actually glued in place or held in with clips or anything. It's only connected to a flex cable on the left side of the button but thats it. I was easily able to pull it out and inspect it. It was built to be completely free floating between the midframe and the screen.
Which means that again, no need to worry about anything breaking as the home button is not a solidified part to start with and only in place where it is because of the space tolerence engeneered in the screen's home button whole. So it being slightly loose is normal and something that will eventually happen to all note 4's sooner or later. The slight looseness actually makes sense to me as any dust material that will get in between the home button wont get stuck as as much as if the space toleren was less. In my opinion, I thik that iPhones have less issues like this as the home button is part of the screen assembly and is also round.
In the end, I wasn't able to adhear the screen back in place as I didnt have double sided tape but manages to send it back to samsung and get it serviced again. I clearly asked them to fix it properly this time and it looks like they finally did and glued it back properly now.
This was a crazy experience and all I can tell you is that I definatly got an up close look of this phone and decided to keep it afterall as it's still better than a refurbished one and also because it's super easy to repair if anything ever broke on it.
Anyways i know this is a long post but I thought I'd share my experience with everyone and put some of your worries to rest.
