Hello, I did some Black crushing test, and I got out with this. The picture is attached.
I did ask for a for a RMA already, but waiting on the email. I'm deciding if it's worth even exchanging it, because they all seems to have this problem. I am currently on GB stock rom, but I don't want to root it and see if it's better on ICS because it would void my warranty.
Would you refund/exchange it? I have my SGS, it still works wonder, but the Note had me hooked. Now that I tried it for a few days I could wait for Note 2, but I'd like some opinions.
I exchanged, new one is the same. Pretty ****, so i just dont watch movies in a dark room on it.

Yeah, I am pretty settled on refund if it goes through. Otherwise I'll keep this one, because it's still 20$ shipping.
I guess it was a fun experiment, I will totally buy a refreshed version with no screen problem.
I mean, the selling point for me was the stylus and screen size/quality. It failed one of the two, and the stylus seems to not calibrate for software reasons. It works well still, impressed by the pressure sensitivity. There's also the bricking problem, but as far as I see, it's only because some people are morons and can't read. I could apply me buying the device to being moronic, I did my research, but I didn't think it was every Note. I thought it was just non-noticeable for the majority, how deceived I am.
I would however make the bezel smaller, keep a physical button and 2 touch(that can be pressed with the stylus) and make it a tad smaller. I would still buy it at the same size, or screen bigger with bezel smaller, but 5" with REALLY small bezel would be my best.
I wouldn't recommend the Note right now to someone looking for video playback. For a professional note taking device, I would in a heartbeat. It's more functional than any phone for someone with huge hand if they can 1hand operate it, it loses it's potential if you can't cover most of the screen with one finger, which I can't.
Why am I doing a review, I'm so pissed. Thanks for the reply anyway.

Is that even considered really bad black clipping?
Bump. I heard that some ICS roms can fix that, somehow.
I just don't know who to trust anymore. I want to root and install a custom rom, but I would lose my warrranty. I've been taking notes like mad for 2 days now while listening to podcasts, and it's a blast.

Probably overwhelming orders coming in...which is a good thing.
Just saw it on Amazon.de (german) for 499 Euros (32Gb).
'Usually ships in 2-4 weeks'
Edit: No sign of 16Gb version
just ordered one... will report back when I get it on Tues...

Looks to me that it will exactly the same as the Transformer plus a sliding keyboard.
I'm really interested to see if it has the new sbk

Just google hands on reviews by people. Supposedly, it's slower and sluggish compared to the TF.

I don't see why they'd use weaker hardware specs if it's basically the same size.. Isn't it the same thing with a built-in keyboard, maybe some reshuffled parts to balance or lighten it up?

No argument here. We'll just have to wait and see.
That said, I wouldn't want one. When I use my transformer as a tablet, I like the light weight and the thinness of it. I like the option to be able to turn it into a laptop when I want it to.
With the slider, it's either a very thick tablet or an awkward notebook.
I agree with GoodIntentions. You're locked into either a very think and clunky tablet or an awkward netbook with a fixed angle.
Neither are good.
But with the Transformer you aren't locked into any, you can either have a free tablet which s lightweight and easy to carry or a good netbook with adjustable angle.
I don't know what they were thinking when they devised this.

But slider makes the change way faster - i prefer tf though (tablet less heavier and the extra battery).

Dropping into the dock takes 3 seconds. Sliding up the stiff screen takes 2 seconds..Is that really a big difference?
Asus pulled a Motorola with this one. Delayed it and took forever to launch, and when they finally did, it is outdated. They could've atleast put a OMAP 4460 in there instead of the now old Tegra 2..Hell as long as it has taken, they could've delayed it for another month or two and put a Kal-El in it..
Haha, here we've been joking about the moto xoom. Moto engineers really did it this time. As a way to compete with the ipad and ipad 2, moto engineers managed to cook up a tablet that's twice as thick and twice as heavy at twice the price as an ipad
My Slider arrived from Circuit City Tuesday 9/27. Been playing with it and have my review with photos up now. It is top of my blog until the next review, but nothing in the works right now. Click on photos to enlarge them. Enjoy.

Can you please tell me if Viewing angle can be adjusted or not? If want to watch the streaming movie in bad, could I move display more upright?

When open it is fixed... just close it and watch it the same way you would a Transformer.. no a big deal.
I love my Slider, I got it from BestBuy last night and I havent put it down. Those saying its clunky obviously havent held it. Its thick, sure, but for me it feels just right Not sure what the obsession people have lately with paper light products. The screen is fixed but with the IPS display you barely even care. Then again this is my humble opinion and Im one of the guys you passed on the EVO because the Epic had a keyboard I love physical keyboards and imho Asus has a winner here.
Yes, the screen is fixed at one angle (about 38 degrees above horizontal) when up. Magnets hold the two together when closed. The Owners Manual suggests keeping credit cards away.
Nicely engineered IMO. The top and bottom were designed as one, and the shape flows from one to the other when closed.
Link to my review.
Happy to answer any questions about it.

I know there are a bunch of threads on varying versions of stylus and screen protectors, but I cant quite seem to find one that answers my questions.
What I am trying to find is a great screen protector. Something thats not overpriced just to be overpriced, but that does the job well. I want something that protects well (meaning a deep scratch in the protector wont impact the screen at all) with as little interference as possible on use.
As for stylus, I want to find something precise. Something that can be used to draw or make small notations with. I have been looking at the dagi stylus, like p601 and p504, but cant seem to find much different in what may work better than the other. My biggest concern is something precise and durable.
Does anyone has recommendations, it would be greatly appreciated
Have tried several here.they all seem about the same so far.Have been looking at the David one .The spring loaded 504.I think

curious to see what everyone plans on upgrading to from their note 4..
LG G6? S8+? Holding out for the note 8 ? or iphone? my note's dying and may just try to get a temp phone to hold me over....ugh.
Hopefully Note 8, but I'm really dreading that curved screen and $1000 price tag
---------- Post added at 10:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:43 AM ----------
Maybe try one of those Moto Gs for temp or another Note 4. I was lucky enough to find a like new Note 4 on eBay last summer for super cheap. It's now my daily while my old Note 4 is backup. When I get the 8, I will likely sell one of my 4s. Its good to have a spare.
Either S8 or Note 8 (whenever it comes out). I just got my Note 4 rooted and running well. I'm inclined to keep it until the Note 8 comes out.
I too don't like the whole curved screen thing. I feel like the mostly borderless design is going to make the thing too fragile and difficult to find cases. I also don't know if I'll like the location of the fingerprint sensor on the S8.
Hopefully the Note 8 will rethink these design ideas.

Yup yup, reviews for those curved tempered glass protectors sound awful too. If the rumors are correct, they tried and failed to get fingerprint scanner underneath screen by deadline. Maybe the late summer/fall release will give them ample time to figure it out.
My one regret, well two actually, as an Android fanatic, was selling my Nexus 5. Not only did it unlock and root in what seemed like 10 seconds, but the size being small enough for your pocket and a screen that somehow looked massive. I had the logic an even better device would soon be on the horizon. Those being the 5x and 6p, both being a letdown, but the worst Nexus device is still better than anything Samsung releases.
Even though I'm one of the unfortunate Verizon pixel users, this is the second best phone I have owned, and that is from a long list of phones. I'm fine with not having root, but I do miss ROM customization.
Pre emptive apologize just in case I posted this in the wrong place or annoyed anyone with my nostalgic rambling, but I needed this off my chest.
Any former Nexus 5 users care to weigh in?
I really liked the Nexus 5 but it wasn't perfect. I had GPS trouble and frame cracking issues. One even broke somehow and wouldn't see a SIM anymore. As I get older I really like bigger screens for use without glasses now.
Size and feel in hand was perfect, I love that soft touch plastic like it had, like a lot of blackberrys had. Only other that came close in that department for me was the 3GS.
Was and still is amazing community developer support, which is impressive. Doesn't seem like the pixels are enjoying that.
Nexus 5 was an incredible device
**you mean the nexus 6?
Just kidding, but to me, that was the epitome of a premium smartphone. I would trade my phone in a second for a flawless N6

But what about the phone of which we don't speak of?
....Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I loved it when it dropped, but it did not age well at all.
I'm one of the few that was let down by the N5 (and I've posted this before). Yes, it could be unlocked and rooted in minutes (although I'm not sure the Pixel really takes a significantly greater enough time to make an issue out of it), but the phone felt flimsy and poorly made. The design was unspectacular, the IPS screen uninspiring, and the performance underwhelming (let's just not mention the camera.)
At the same time as the N5's release was the best Nexus phone released by Google that wasn't a Nexus... The original Moto X. What's most interesting about that phone is the extent to which its feature set went on to influence and set the agenda for future Nexus and Pixel hardware (dedicated language processing chips) and software in general, and Google Assistant in particular; in contrast, the N5 did nothing of the sort. Had El goog folded the Moto X directly into the Nexus/Pixel programme (the N6 being an entirely wasted opportunity) I'm quite sure the N5 would have only one talking point left for it: the last standard Nexus demonstrating all that was wrong with the programme.

I'd trade a flawless N6 for your Pixel XL. That was my previous phone. Got it late in the game and always kept in unicorn beattle case. The phone is def in basically new shape and no damage even in the slightest. PM me if you're serious.

If you think the 6 was fragile you should see the 6P. I always made fun of my brothers phone as he had the 6P and it was an extremely brittle phone.
My 6 is a tank and still is.

Actually it was the 6p. I was walking when I typed that
nexus 5? lol
nexus 5 had so bad camera and battery life . I replaced it second day for galaxy s5
Google improved camera from 5X/6P but battery was still **** which got fix when they released Pixel XL
I just found a guy selling 6 for 100 off letgo. Yay!!!!
That's crazy man, mine was flawless
I can't complain about the PXL since Google replaced my 6P for free, but I would love to have some Oreo ROM love in it, I'm still hopeful they'll surface soon and have my finger on Paypal for that.
Don't be mistaken, the N6P was a beast of a phone. Dual front facing speakers, an almost perfect camera, and enough storage/memory to keep every finger swipe accurate. What was there not to love?
Oh yeah, the unlimited free WiFi hotspot I miss from my .... Samsung Galaxy Nexus (R.I.P). Hmm, now that I think of it, did I lose that because I left Verizon's unlimited data plan and switched to Metropcs's or because I upgraded past Nougat?
Now with the Pixel XL, I've actually only run into one. single. problem. It never ran Marshmallow. And if you care to know why, it's simply because the best mods for the Android version of GTA San Andreas are ONLY stable on Marshmallow.
Truth be told, the Pixel XL is ALOT better than I'd thought it would be and because of that... It's boring to me because I am a flashaholic with nothing to flash.
I loved my Nexus 5 but it had it issues. I wouldn't ever go back to that small of a phone lol I got 2 Nexus 5s that had Motherboard issues and would stop displaying anything on the screen, even after replacing parts including the screen. I love my Nexus 6 and would go back to that if my pixel XL died. The pixel XL is the first time I am content with having a locked down device.
Hi guys.
I'm hearing finger print scanner isn't fast. Can't we get this fast with software updates?
And hearing that multitasking is not good. Is it so? It's my biggest requirement. I'm thinking since this is stock it would be better. No?
How the display, build quality? Cheaper and compromised for the budget pricing?
Did anyone dropped the device? Is it getting easily dents and paint coating damages?
Thanks in advance.
PS: I don't mind camera as long as it's not bad for the price.
