I'm having a problem. My phone doesn't see the sim card.

Holy horse balls. How about a little info?
Are you rooted? If so, what ROM are you running?
Sorry started on aokp tootie frootie and was fine until I flashed the WiFi talk fix. So my buddy did a factory reset and then put Revolution HD 7.04. Not sure if he wiped like he should have. He's been converted recently from Apple. Still has s-off and rooted. I'm going to try the aokp rom again and see what happens. We tried another sim card and it didn't see it. Im doing this for a friend at work and I hope I didn't f$%k it up on him. I have a thunderbolt and this phone is all new to me. Especially the way that rom flashed itself asking questions and such. Really jealous of this phone as well for having fully functional ICS. ;-) lucky bastards. Great devs on this phone.
Update: I totally wiped everything and reflashed Revolution HD. Tried fixing permissions, nothing. Still not seeing the sim. HELP

Try placing a small piece of paper on top of the sim card then insert it into the sim slot to add pressure to it.
Are you able to try a different sim card? The card could be corrupted or damaged.

I did try another sim last night and still no go. PaperIt didn't work either. It all started about an hour after I flashed that wifi calling fix for aosp/aokp roms. Any ideas on on gfree sim unlock?
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
Gfree can carrier unlock your phone. Did you root with gfree? If so, you very likely have unlocked it already.
You could try flashing PD15IMG.zip.
Worse comes to worst you can replace the sim/sd card reader for cheap from Ebay. (probably won't work if it is indeed a software problem)

No I didn't use gfree to root. Now I'm trying to get back s-on this thing and its not working. Anyone know where I can get the OTA gingerbread update zip from. All I can find is a froyo zip. I tried the unroot/s-off methods in the Glacier bible. But no good. All I get is unroot but still s-off. Maybe he can get some help from t-mobile.

I'm having the EXACT same issue, and my phone is SIM unlocked and it won't recognize any of the 3 active Sims cards I tried, 1. is mine, T mobile. 2nd is My Mother's At&t, and third my buddies boost mobile sims card from his android phone from there. None either say it's the wrong Sims card or anything just that I don't have a sims card. Oh yea and where your able to input an APN is all greyed out so I can't even try to type in an APN manually. I know the card is good. I use it on my Samsung Galaxy 2. The Mytouch 4G is my old phone. I kept it for a just in case phone. Phone is rooted and it was running CM 6.5, then I put a stock rom on it now to see if the rom was the problem.. must not be. I'm fresh out of Idea's. Anyone here got any?

well I'm calling T-mobile now but the phone is SIM Unlocked and I tried a working AT&T sim that used to work on this phone and a Boost mobile sims that worked and it won't read those either, it doesn't say unsupported sim.. just no sim card. So I haven't a clue. I'll post if they give me a fix for it for anyone else that may need a solution to this.
Thanks for taking the time to answer me though estallings15 , I appreciate that, I hit the TY button, people don't do that enough.

Yea I had too. The new wifi calling won't work without the new SIM. The wifi calling that you turn on in settings,, without the app. on my Samsung Galaxy S 2, but my HTC Glacier,, Mytouch 4G has the app. It was one of the first android phones that came with it.
OKAY I Just called T-Mobile, here's the short and skinny of it. The Tech guy ran a few tests.. whatever, **** I already tried. He said it was a device issue not a sim card issue. I can't be issued a replacement because it was dropped and the power button popped out of it so I have to go through my cell phone insurance. To Replace it costs $130. If it was my Samsung galaxy S 2, or my Tablet I'd do it but for my back up, old ass, unnecessary phone, no way. I'd of paid maybe 40 or 50 bucks tops. But the bottom line is I don't need it so bad I'd spend 130 on it. lol. So if anyone on here happens upon a solution to this problem give me a shout out I'd be thankful.

A few people have reported keeping S = Off even after getting the official OTA/TmobileStore update. They still lose their SuperUser access though so they're pretty much unrooted for most intents and purposes.
As far as I can tell, keeping S=off after the update seems to be random. Either that it or it has something to do with the rooting method originally used. I feel like the gfree method is more likely to let you retain due to the fact that it's a more invasive kind of root(rewrites your emmc chip) than the root.sh method. Then again, that's just speculation on my part. I haven't seen any threads actually trying to determine what the main factor in that is so yea...
I guess the best way to figure out what causes it would be to have anyone who got the update after they were rooted report what method they used to root their phone. If my speculation is correct, then only the people who rooted with gfree would have kept S=off after they updated, and anyone who used root.sh would have lost it.
Regardless though, until someone figures out how to root the stock 2.3.4 anyone with the update is in the same boat, regardless of whether S=off/on.

And to answer your question Tez: No, downgrading to Froyo still seems to be the only possible method of rooting and sim unlocking once you have the update. Unless a development occurred that I didn't hear about it, in which case anyone who knows how should feel free to correct me.
I used the gfree to root before I got the update afterwards I went and got the update after my phone started messing up after a flashing problem to my surprised I stilled.had s off after the official update I got at the t mobile store also when I put the other sim in my phone it indeed did show cincinnati bell were it would show t mobile on the lock and notification screen only thing I thing I didn't get to test was sending and receiving calls and data speed because I didn't have any talk / air time or internet service at the time our now lol but anyways.the sim does work so far

Hmm so maybe the sim unlock actually sticks even after the update. That's pretty cool. I'm guessing that's another one of those things that gets written directly onto the phone's hardware or something and is unaffected by the update.
Wish we could get a dev or someone more experienced in here to give us their opinion.

Is there way to unlock mcc to use this phone in USA and in Europa?
I will work my self in this direction:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
But i wonder how MCC fits in to all this if so?
Deep in thought about this....ideas?
I actually wish I could post on that thread, but alas I don't have the power....
I have rooted my MT4G twice now after restoring to stock in order to use gfree to unlock it.
Eng S-off and CID is 11111111 but when I put a AT&T sim in there is no service. I'm a pretty savvy dude, and can't find anything on how to correct the issue.
I would love some advice even tho this isn't the right thread .... lurking has cost me the ability to post where I need to
gfree unlocks the phone. mcc/mnc/cid/whatever.
If there is no AT&T service - most probably you have only UMTS (3G) service at that spot, and the UMTS bands are incompatible with MT4G.
I was digging through the radio threads thinking it was something of that nature.
currently on the stock T-Mob radio....suggestions?
and thank you for the reply
Radios won't help, they don't change the frequency support. I don't have any good suggestions...
I don't know much about radios....seemed people were getting better service by changing them. Guess changing the radio doesn't allow for better reception of other towers, based on what you said. Thanks.
I think that in the unlocking process I may have hard locked it to Tmob. Everything I have found online says that a foreign sim will bring up the option for unlock code, but mine doesn't and never did.
I'll keep digging and post if I find any answers.

Radios will affect the signal and its strength, and may change battery life overall, it doesn't relate to the phone's frequencies though.
Thanks Ace....
I did try doing *#*#4636#*#* and switching to GSM only which on Tmob gave me Edge only even at home, but it still didn't read the AT&T sim, and when trying to set the APN on the Tmob sim it will save but not on the AT&T one.
Do you know of a ROM that gels with using 2G only and allows the APN to stick?

If you're using the stock mysense rom, ginger or froyo, try another one like CM or Miui. And if those don't read the aim, try a sense rom instead. It should stick though, when you save the apn, perhaps you should also try another at&t sim card, just to be sure. I'm wondering if the CID thing from gfree is related to this or not, I've never unlocked my phone, but it might be best to use the unlock, if you can't get the sim to work properly. Gfree and its CID method could be causing some underlying problem with the reader.

Just to update my attempts in case someone runs into the same issue....
Tried a couple MIUI ROM's (not a fan of them), CM7, several Royal ROM's (a couple stuck in their Android boot loop), Sense ROM's, and stock FROYO and GB....
going back to the stock ROM's - I flashed after formatting and wiping and the IMG did bring the phone to stock, but never turned S=ON. Today I'll be doing manual unroot to get S=ON and then reflashing the stock ROM's to see if I can get the phone to ask for a network unlock code. If I can get that I'll buy a code and run with it. I'm thinking that the Gfree method of unlocking isn't 100% compatible with the MT4G. IMO
Having an issue with VISIONary ATM on GB, but I'll keep you posted. This may end up being very helpful to other MT4G owners down the road. Thanks for the input guys.

If you flashed the ota, then you'll have to downgrade to froyo first. Since the stock gb can't be rooted yet, w/o downgrading first.

Yeah face slap after the post I realized it won't root on GB....lol moment of idiocy.
I flashed the stock froyo and still S=OFF persists.
I tried the unroot sh method listed HERE
No dice. S=OFF still there. I have a second MT4G that I never rooted, so I'm having a friend bring it to me so I can do some additional testing to see what the problem is. Unfortunately I dropped T-Mobile contract plan so there won't be any warranty swaps if gfree did create some gross underlying issue that can't be undone.
Ok so logical deduction says it has to be the SIM card....
Putting the AT&T SIM in the stock never touched phone, the phone sees there is a SIM card, but doesn't do anything about it.
My rooted phone acted as if there was no SIM, but the unrooted one just didn't do anything...simply said there was no service, and the phone didn't register that there was a phone number associated with the SIM.
IDK, maybe I'm way over analyzing this all, but I'll get over to AT&T and see about getting a new SIM to try that.
Sorry for repeated postings....
Ok, so new development for those who have the idea of using AT&T prepaid on a spiffy MT4G the issue IS the SIM
I was reading on AT&T's forums and it seems that they are hip to our MO and made new SIM's that don't work in regular phones. The gold contact area is smaller and so the MT4G doesn't see it.
I'm hoping that I can get someone cool at the store to setup a normal SIM for me to test. I'll post an update once I have gone to the store.

Normally it would be on, after flashing the stock/unrooted ota. But, why do you need it to be S-ON anyway? Are you planning on selling it?
Not selling, just curious as to why it happened to stay S=OFF
Old full sized SIM cards can no longer be gotten through the store, searching online. Seems AT&T wants to stop people from putting their SIM cards in unlocked phones. I was told approx 2 months ago they forced the stores to switch to new SIMs with smaller contact area. This is going to make things difficult for those who want to use unlocked phones on AT&T.

I flashed the stock froyo PD15IMG file and the OTA, which either should have returned to S=ON, but didn't. I'm not overly concerned with the fact that it stayed S=ON, but after multiple attempts and staying S=OFF makes you wonder.
It did take it out of ENG mode and back to SHIP
I'm trying to find an older SIM which is proving to be more difficult than anticipated. I would have though ebay and Amazon would have them, but I'm not having much luck.
Your S-OFF most probably stays because you were rooted with gfree, and you have the security flag set to off. No amount of flashing will turn it back on.
Run gfree again, with the right switches, to turn the security back to on. Use any rooted Froyo ROM for that. Then flash PD15IMG, and you'll be S-ON.
I had a feeling that gfree had done a better job with a true root than the VISIONary way I had done it originally. Thanks for confirming that. Still trying to track down an older AT&T SIM card to test the unlock. Nothing is ever easy, lol
Hello,
Im a verizon customer (only carrier here that actually works and have GREAT coverage). But I wanted a device that I could use to remote my servers that had a great screen and processing power. So as you can probably tell, i flipped when I saw the note and picked up one right away.
But now my problem. I see that there are updates out and such, but I don't have an ATT account. When I go to update the note it just tells me that I don't have a sim card. How can I update my device without a sim card.
I tried to look this up, but didn't get far (I guess most people here have an ATT account or a GSM carrier). So is there anything I can do to update my Note. (I purchase an unlocked one, if that helps any).
Thanks in advance

I want to make use of them asap and put this matter to rest. Also, does having this unlock code mean I am unlocking the bootloader or is this *just* a sim unlock?
I am considering experimenting with the 'nightly' for CM 10.2. I have CM 10.2 on a Note 8.0 and CM 9 on an original Galaxy Tab 7" already and i like it a lot.

Research it. Then research it some more. Research it until you are comfortable doing it yourself. Don't let someone bully and say you might mess up your phone. You could mess up your phone by dropping it in your sink among other things. But doing this is quite simple. Follow the steps here is even a youtube video to do it. If you have any questions ask away. Some ppl are jerks and say it was answered somewhere else you should of found it elsewhere. And this guy ^^^ isn't going to fix your phone for you if it does screw up. The "free" unlock method works for some and does not for others. I completely agree with the research until your eyes fall out part, but, in this, case, it still might not help you. So, basically, if you try the "free' unlock method it might work, it might not, and it might mess your phone up. Unfortunately, you won't know until you try. I would just go to your local mall or T-mobile store and get a cheap pre-paid sim card that you can use in your and your wife's phone. Don't listen to people that think something will work for everyone just because it worked for them, especially when it is proven to not be the case. Good luck.
I walked into a tmo store and sled if they had an activated micro Sim so I could test my phones unlock status. I told them I was thinking of switching, but needed to verify if my s4 was unlocked (I used the service menu method).

Would you mind sharing how you got them to unlock your phone, I have been trying for a while now without any success.
When I had my old smartphone, I called att and told them I'd be visiting my sister in London, and that I'd want to use prepaid SIM cards, as it would be cheaper than international rates. They had no problem unlocking it (galaxy s).

Usually no prompt means the phone isn't actually locked. There's a ton of instances when a network simply missed a handset and failed to lock it. For anyone I'd say test your phone first. Make sure it is locked before going through the process of unlocking it.
Also, this works on a number of older Samsung's, not too sure if it'll work on newer models, but you can type a command that targets the network lock, which is #0111*code# - you simply replace "code" with the code AT&T or anyone else gives you and it should unlock the phone. Someone might be able to confirm this as possible or not for the newer Samsung's?
I tried the traveling story. That does not work anymore. CS, including supervisor refused.
I have a AT&T Galaxy S4 SGH-i337 on MF3 and Region Lock Away unlocked the Region & SIM. I tested it with a T-Mobile SIM. The OP of Region Lock DOES NOT CLAIM it will work with the SGH-i337 but I have unlocked a S3(SGH-i747) a S4(SGH-i337) and a Galaxy TAB 2 (SGH-i497) it was worth the few bucks.
