I agree aokp has issues...I flashed cm9 and suddenly 3 dots showed up in settings under storage..I was then able to select mass storage as computer connection mode..any way dual boot rocks!!I love it..running stock 6.3 as alternate secondary rom..aokp as primary one...

I was trying to root my Kindle Fire and now it wont restart and my PC does not recognise it. Ive looked at other threads but they keep suggesting using fastboot which i cant do because its not seen.
The procedure i was following is here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24129239
I had flashed the bootloader and recovery but it seemed to stick on the Kindle screen. I then turned it off but now there are no lights on and it wont restart.
I tried to plug it into the wall socket to charge and also my laptop to see if it would recognise it again.
I have checked device manager and it cant see the Fire device.
Help :crying:
I have left the Kindle on charge all day long but it still isnt being recognised on my laptop and the power button is doing nothing.
Has anyone else had this before or something similar.
Ive tried all the fastboot commands but it just says waiting for device.
Ive also tried adb commands but the device can not be seen.
If its not already too late, what you need to do is access device manager
-Start
-Control Panel
-Hardware and devices
-Device manager
From here, find a driver called adb composite device, or something similar. Delete all of these drivers.
Now go into kfu, and reinstall drivers using install_drivers.bat
Or however you installed your drivers if it was manual.
Now try again. If it doesnt work, tell me, ill see what else i can think of

My Kindle Fire is stuck in the TWRP boot loop with the blue and white kindle fire logo. So far I haven't been able to mount or wipe the SD card, and there is not zip file loaded onto the Kindle that I can use to restore it. I haven't been able to try adb because the Kindle does not show up under the devices when I go through the command prompt steps. I can wipe everything else and get it to boot into the Fastboot? screen (the kindle fire logo is orange and white), but my computer doesn't recognize it from that screen. Both of my computers will only recognize it as Android ADB Interface when I hit the power button to enter the boot screen. Once it leaves the boot screen it disappears from the device manager.
The kindle fire utility reads:
ADB status: Offline
Boot Status: Unknown.
When using the twrp, anything that involves writing to or wiping the sd card receives this error E:failed to mount /sdcard (invalid argument)
I am about to order the factory cable, but first... does anyone know if the cable will even help if the SD card is inacessable? Any other suggestions? Or should I begin using my Kindle as a coaster?

If you have the newest 1.4a I think you shouldn't need the factory cable. That said, I use it most of the time because it makes it so easy.
Sounds like your USB drivers are messed up.

I bought the Fire used thinking it would be an easy fix. I didn't have any drivers installed before using the drivers from the Kindle Fire utility. I've tried it on 3 computers using Windows 7 64 bit and Windows Vista. Same results all around. They will only recognize the Fire after I enter the boot screen, and I have to keep hitting the button to change selections from normal boot, Recovery, and Reset Boot mode. If I ever stop scrolling and let it reboot, it will disappear from my device manager until I enter the boot screen again. I get an unidentified drive under My Computer ( Q: ) but access is denied. So far I've been unable to get it to show up under devices when I try using adb through the command prompt. Could that still be a driver issue? Any other ideas? I'm about ready to use it for skeet practice!

DO NOT USE KFU ON THE KINDLE FIRE HD 7"
This utility was designed for the original Kindle Fire, not the HD.
If you push it, you WILL Brick (Break) the Kindle Fire 7" HD.
At this point there is only one Bootloader that works on the KFU HD,
that is SafeStrap, although the developer has it on hold at the moment.
Having said this, there is no easy way to upgrade the Kindle Fire HD
to JellyBean - we were able to port over JellyBean but over 50%
of the applications did not work. So, we are at least 1 year away from
posting custom ROM's. Do not try it with SafeStrap, it is a waste of time
at the moment. Sorry........

imadrummerlol,
No worries, I just did not want you to Brick the Kindle.
If you have the original Kindle Fire and not the Kindle Fire 2 then KFU
should see it. Do you have ADB Enabled on the Kindle Fire?
Did you install these USB Drivers: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/54456659/usb_driver.zip
If yes, you should see Android Composite ADB Interface in the Windows Device
Manager. If not, this is your problem, update the Kindle Driver using our driver.

imadrummerlol,
That is normal since the Kindle uses a high powered USB Charger. You can safely ignore the error.
If you look in the Windows Device Manager, do you see Android Composite ADB Interface?
Download this utility: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/54456659/ADB%20Update.zip
Save the ADB Update.zip to your desktop. Unzip ADB Update.zip to ADB Update on your desktop.
The open the folder. While your mouse arrow is hovering over the ADB Update folder, press the Right
Click Mouse Button, Choose "Open a command window here". Windows will open a Command Prompt.
You will be at the root of ADB Update. Type the following commands (pressing Enter after each one):
Code:
adb kill-server
adb start-server
adb devices
Do you see a serial number after adb devices?

Go to our How to Root the Kindle fire using Windows Noob (Easy Edition.
We have a video I think you will find helpful, it takes you through the entire
process and Yes, it does work on the original Kindle Fire. I can be 99% sure
you have a driver problem. The links to this series is below. Keep us posted.
Check your firmware version. I got a Fire for Christmas and tried to root unsuccessfully until I noticed I was on 10.2 firmware which told me I had a KF2. It is exactly the same in every way except it has a 1.2ghz dual core processor and 1gb RAM instead of a 1ghz dual core and 512mb RAM. Aaaaand it has a locked boot loader. So you can root, but no custom recovery, no custom ROMs. Yet.

LegendaryCatalyst,
Very good point, many think they have a plain old Kindle Fire when indeed they have a Kindle Fire 2 and
if this is true, you can Brick the Kindle Fire 2 when using the KFU Utility on the Kindle Fire 2. The KFU
utility is only designed for the ORIGINAL Kindle Fire, about 6-8 Months old now.
Thank you for the feedeback.

HI
I have a demo kindle fire hd 7 which i'm trying to flash as into a regular kindle.
Ive read a lot through the forums posted here, and have not come up with any success.
I do have a fastboot cable which does put my device into fastboot mode but when I open adb -devices it doesnt show up.
Ive read through this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096555 and have tried to get my device as an Android ADB Composite interface, but when i updating the driver to google\usb_driver, it says its not compatible with my device.
Ive pretty much given up, and was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what I can do.
I have done this before with my regular kindle fire which was also a demo, and thought it would be as easy with the kindle fire hd, as to which i was wrong.
I ordered now a kindle fire 2 demo which hopefully will work as easy as the first.
Just to update
I did manage to get the device listed as Kindle Fire with Android ADB Interface listed as the driver.
I then boot up with a fastboot cable, it does put the device into fastboot with it listed as Kindle fire in device manager and ADB Interface as the driver,
But still when i run adb devices it wont show up
Try running fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
If it returns with tate something your In luck
You don't use adb commands when its in fast boot, u use fastboot commands

Select "Completely Restore the KFHD 7 X.X.X" and agree, you will then be returned full automatically a completely stock Kindle on an hour or so... Don't mistake the options as that utility is planned for the Kindle fire 2, the Kindle fire HD 7 and the Kindle fire HD 8.9....
-------
On the other side, where did you ordered your Kindle demo and how much did it cost to you?
I went through the process of installing FFF and Teamwin to my kindle fire, and then successfully ran Jelly bean 4.2.2 and cm10. Everything looks to be working except I cannot access my kindle fire though the USB now. It it detected, but as a unspecified device. Ive tried running different drivers but none look to be working. When I let my computer detect what drivers could work on the device it selected android interface driver, they installed properly, but even then I cannot access the kindle fire through USB.
It is not much of a problem, but I would like to charge my device using the computer instead of wall charger all the time. If anyone has tips on what I can do to get this to work properly it would be appreciated.
