CM9 Boot animation - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

Hey everyone,
Since I can't really do any development right now (other than helping Aorth when he is working on something), I figured it would be as good as time as any to ask whether they want the default boot animation to be vertical or horizontal. Whatever the group consensus is, remember that you can always change it by putting in a different bootanimation.zip into /system/media, this is just to get an idea of what orientation the users as a whole (you guys) prefer.

Vertical, Thanks.

Voted vertical, assuming it means portrait.

I vote vertical as well.

Portrait
I think portrait, because the main boot logo "Samsung Galaxy Tab 680" (Its 680 in India) is also in Portrait! BTW Do you know how to change its orientation?
BTW, Why you can't do any development right now? Are you working on another ROM or something? We are waiting for Alpha 3.......
Why Don't Someone make a XDA Developers Boot Logo? I think I should Make...

Our tab it's portrait. So, I think vertical is better.
I vote VERTICAL.

Most of the time I use my tab in landscape mode, so I vote for horizontal... But it seems I'm in the minority...
It doesn't matter... I want wifi working ;-)

I don't mean to sound silly but how about some sort of symmetrical style so no matter what angle you view it, it would look right. example a rotating animation or even static running across on an angle and also mirrored.
Hmm m this is something the rest of us plebs could play with and get some creative juices happening....

Horizontal for me please, to get the most out of the animation.
Would look squashed in portrait wouldn't it..

VERTICAL

Vertical, Thx
Skickat från min GT-P6800 via Tapatalk 2

Hardware-wise it's kinda vertical oriented, also if it's in a book style case it will be definitely vertical when you'd grab it...so VERTICAL seems logical to me.

Vertical suits me as well, since I prefer to use portrait mode

Actually I don't care but I thought vertical would be better.

I realy dont care, I just want a nice ICS release

Samsung Galaxy S Rotation Animations

Hey Guys
Just wondering if it is possible for us to have rotation animations on the Galaxy S. It would much improve the looks of it, and would make the phone feel more smooth. I heard that cupcake versions of Android had it, so can we not use the libs to port it to 2.2 FROYO on the Galaxy S?
I put £20GBP as a bounty to the person who does this. Please post here if you wish to offer a bounty to a developer who manages to do this!
Thanks

This is one of those situations where open source would come in handy.
Your best bet would be to wait for cm/aosp for our phones and then modify source.
IMHO
I too would appreciate this as long as it didn't sacrifice performance in any way, shape, or form
Another thing that bugs me is that the screen fade on/off is not quite perfect. It was terrible in Eclair, in the latest Froyo XWJPA the fade on is nearly perfect but fade off is still choppy.
You'd think something as simple as fading the display on or off would be piece of cake for this beast. The Aria and Milestone that I use do it very smooth no problem.
It's just little things like this that, when put together, make or break the experience.
IMHO
If yo guys try it in SGS Tools it will animate. Maybe someone can port that over to all other apps? Pretty sure its not very simple...

I know this is pretty old but has anyone been able to add screen rotation animations to the SGS yet ? (Possibly for 2.2.1?)

Not as far as I know. No Android device has had it since cupcake and I don't see it coming back based on the fact that nobody has worked on it for any phone AFAIK.
The latest Froyo ROMs like JPY are fast enough that's it not as important as it once was, but I still feel that it would give an awesome premium feel to the UI and I'd gladly donate if it was done.

what do you mean by rotation animations? is it same as transition effects? as I start with Froyo I dont have any Imagination about cupcake
^he means the iphone animation when you rotate the screen. you seen it or not?
I see it on the Tablet-PC Video with Android 3.0. But it is a long way to it. So I would love to see a good animation on the Galaxy. I would donate, too!
I wonder if we could do a pseudo rotation.
You could run a service that monitors the sensor and when the phone is turned it could quickly take a screen shot. The animate that and then show the real screen.
So it would go: Sensor rotate triggered> Portrait Screen shot before rotate allowed, Rotate screen, but show Portrait screen, Screen shot screen underneath> Spin Portrait screen shot around center>Fit and overlay ontop of Portrait screen the landscape screen shot to center and stretch to correct size> then show real landscape Screen.
Hmm I know it sounds alot, but this phone it fast and actually the Iphone rotate isn't THAT fast, it seems to have a little more delay tolerance on rotate than Androids do.
I'm sure this kind of thing would be very easy for a dev to try out. Wish I was a dev
Logicalstep
Yeah SGS Tools has Rotation animations, try it and you'll see what i mean. I tried using the XML's from the app in the framework but nothing changed
Has anyone find solution on this one jet? Seems like the SGS2 has got it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362354 ...
We have kind of rotation animation on ICS but it is far away from what can be...

[Q] anyone working on lockscreens?

Hey, is anyone working on new/different lock screens for our iconias'? If so, let me know if I can be of help or test stuff out.
Guess not.
What do you mean,lock screen?
There is a switch on top to lock screen orientation.
Lockscreen is this circle on screen to unlock tablet after pressing power button

i would love to see mods for the lockscreen like turn the ring and ripples red or green ect.
widgetlocker is available on the market. Does it not work?

Agreeable. Also maybe one where we can get different "kinds" of lockscreens such as Simply Lockscreens with the "jedi" trick. it obviously didn't work on the Iconia sans no ir sensor to locate facial proximity but just the same difference.
Anyone? Not alot of theme love going on around here either from what my limited experince has been. Kinda sad forum. For such a great device it seems to me that this device should be moving in a bigger better direction. I understand that Honeycomb source is not released but the customization end is just no starting to be picked up on. I loved the thread 1+ < 800. keep it up guys. Maybe we can get more Iconia love from the guys at acer soon and get this beast in the direction we all want

Anyone else using the Note in landscape only?

Am I the only one using the Note in landscape mode *only*?
Customized ADW EX launcher to landscape only. Downloaded a paid app from Market that locked everything in landscape, even the got d.... dialer (finally!!).
I really love it that way. Only problem is that I haven't found a lockscreen that works natively in landscape.
Would love if Google and various devs. would consider making apps more landscape friendly.
The whole thing as using a phone (as the Note) in portrait mode doesn't make sense IMO. Just think of how you are watching TV, movies in cinema etc.. - Same with a nice big screen phone as the Note.
EDIT: Oh, and have of course changed the DPI to 240. Again, would love if in the future everything would be a lot smaller than it is today. Going from 240DPI to the standard 320DPI is buck ugly. Way to big. Why not use the screen space a lot better? Like having a 15" laptop running a virtual resolution at 640x480.. Nobody would have that.
Oh well.. Only me that is a landscape fanatic?
Best regards

I dont prefer landscape at all. I dont watch movies on Note.

I am in love with landscape too!! I use my dell streak in landscape fix only, however in that case if you remove auto rotate checkbox then the phone itself fixes in permanent landscape...
For your lockscreen issue....try widget locker a very good lock screen and it supports landscape as well, highly customizable .....
If it helped click thanks!!!!
Hmm.... Well, to each his own. Dell streak is of course set up as a landscape device and devs spent months figuring out how to"fix"it.
So, if you are so inclined, here is how to change the default orientation (including stock lockscreen). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1084850
Of course, this is for GB only. And oh yeah, car dock mode auto rotates the lockscreen based on sensor. ICS is of course a bit different. AOSP has tablet mode which includes lockscreen rotation built in. You can get the same effect in phone mode with a simple framework edit. See the link in my sig for my CM9 MOD. The latest version has lockscreen rotation including a link to the tutorial I (and Matius44) followed to enable it. That would work on imilka's AOSP rom + but I have no idea about this touchwiz crap we are forced to endure to use the spen suite of apps.
Sure, you COULD just use widget locker or GoLocker autorotate feature... but then why the hell did you post to xda;-) (not a dig on Geo lol)

Fyi, landscape Web browsing on a large form device such as our Note, allows one to read the entire width of a page legibly without zooming in and out. Sure, you can fit a 'whole' page in portrait, and with the incredible resolution of the Note, maybe even read it with a magnifying glass!

Oh, and so as not to be completely off topic, I rotate 90 clock wise for landscape. This actually puts the volume keys on the top and right is volume up and left is volume down. (again, not to sound like a broken record, but streak was f-ing backwards to the on screen volume adjustment)

i love using my note in landscape as well! but my only problem is when it comes to texting i always have to change it to portrait because i use swype and having to swipe through such a big screen is hard
Rotation locker, free from the market could have accomplished the rotation. With¡, and without touchwiz.

Quick text how to:
ADW EX Launcher (any launcher that can change orientation will do)
In launcher settings, set desktop column and rows to 10.
Chose nice icon pack that you like (i have black background and minimalistic white icons)
Set icon size to something preferable.
Get rotation locker and set it to landscape.
If you have like me, use Tasker to set orientation to auto in some preferable apps, like Youtube or S-memo.
Stock up your homescreen with cool widgets and what ever you like. I like not to have a dockbar.

Sweetness indeed...
Can you put 5 columns of apps like in GB, it seems that your video shows only 4. Although plenty of rows.
Also, and although I think it's mandatory as per the ICS specs, can you avoid the 3 hoe, back and search buttons in the screen and instead use the physical ones, even in landscape mode?
Thanks.
Is the S-pen compatible with this ROM?
You mind posting the settings used? I changed the dpi to 213 but I can only use the middle of the screen. Not sure what else needs tweaking to be able to use the full screen...

Problem getting into tablet mode
I apologise for asking this question, but I haven't found an answer within the forum anywhere and I am unable to post it in the developer section due to me being a new user. I've been using the ICS Stunner 5.0 beta ROM for the past two days now and I am unable to get it to boot into tablet mode. I have followed all of the steps in Euphoria Control to get it into tablet mode, including a custom DPI of 213. I performed a clean install with the ROM and my phone has full root access.
Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers

UPDATE: Some dev may have finally achieved a TW tablet UI...a screenshot here. That is only a screenshot and I have not seen working myself. We'll just have to wait and rely on the dev to release it for those who want such feature on their note.
Can you share patched android.policy.jar and services.jar. I was trying to patch them with help from 0jmaster0, and but since you already did that I can use them and give it a try and report back with findings.

Nineteen downloads so far and no feedback. Although I don't know smali code, I have to research and learn a bit in a short span of time and based on my limited knowledge, there are two types of multiwindows: the one on the note1 & note2 and the one on note10.1 and the thing is all 3 devices share the same code but in that code is a conditional check to see if you are using a phone or a tablet based on the computation that barmulio specified in his thread (the check being done not only in windowmanager but also in multiwindowmanager), and when it detects that the device is a phablet/tablet (at least 600dp) the window manager sends signal to systemui to disable systembar which doesn't exist prior to 4.1.2. There could be a lot of other factors but so far that is what I discovered. I actually am enjoying this but it is a bit time consuming. It is a great learning process for me. Now if only molesarecoming can enlighten me about what makes ParanoidAndroid tick, then who knows what may come...I was hoping samsung would implement a PA-like configuration app/setting so we get to choose our preferred layout for multiwindow apps, then it would be awesome. I am sure samsung have more surprises to come based on the fragments of code and resources in its leaked JB ROM. So much time for a JB leak, I guess I'll just wait for the official release for now and enjoy the xmas season.

That is good news if they manage to make it work. But that I believe is running at 160 dpi which may pose a usability problem for a lot of users - one is the text maybe too small to be readable for most. That is the same problem in the Nexus 7 forum, they can get tablet UI by lowering the density at the expense of readability (imagine that on a 5.3" screen like note1, try downloading the screenshot and view it on your screen) unless connected to a bigger screen, so barmulio's solution was achieving tablet UI without lowering density making text as readable as the stock density setting. Another thing I noticed about the screenshot posted is that there is no button for the traybar which controls the multiwindow layout for tablet UI which is the thing that I am trying to achieve by enabling the systembar but so far no luck. But I have achieved a working tablet UI for most apps (Youtube, Photoshop Touch, File Manager HD and other apps if such app has a tablet layout) except without the systembar but without lowering the density so text is as readable as the stock density setting. If an app has tablet layout, it will appear as tablet app, otherwise it will appear as phablet or phone UI. If you want floating multiwindow or the stock multiwindow, then it is easy to switch between the two. I am using it right now and trying to iron out the few misplaced layouts of important stock apps (mostly I replaced with PlayStore alternatives) and making it a usable daily driver. I may release it in the near future with all the working apps. That is enough info for now, some folks might get the idea and beat me to it, he he! Just kidding, sharing is great.

Too small for real usage.
Perhaps getting Tab 2 7.0 JB UI would be greatly practical.
Just a suggestion.

people tend to forget you can increase font size if its to hard to read. With Xperiacle ideas on tablet gui on stock dpi the minute buttons area should be solved.
This is cutting edge stuff. I just hope it wont diminish batterylife like Paranoid mods do for me.

"Stay hungry, stay foolish". Explore and learn and have fun doing it. Merry Xmas Xda'ers!

Mate. As far as I remember there was a memeber (sorry if it turns to be you) still had the no and included a working systemui I can't recall who but it used to work even partially (not full width of screen).
Are you sure that the n8000 systemui doesnt work? It could be a patch you missed or something.
I will look into it at the holidays, and may e we can contact raj_ch200..... the guy with the 240 mod if he can be any help with this
HAPPY XMAS guys

Hi DAGr8,
I used your systemUI awhileback to achieve the desired tablet ui in ICS.
I have been searching your threads and can't find the post detailing how you patch the missing resources.
I have a little time at the moment and want to have a crack at it, the results of which I will post here.
BTW - Seasons greetings.

That systemui.APK is not compatible with JB it's specifically for ICS TW so there is no point trying it.
I have finally solved the TABLET UI problem for TW roms.
