Hey man, have you had it where you go to install an App and the 'pop' up dialog disappears until you touch it? Pretty much any dialog of the type disappears on AOKP in tablet mode. (atleast the version I'm using)
This is 213 dpi in 4.3 stunner. There's no dialog problem what so ever. Yes I can make and receive calls without any problem. This is the most stable ics I've ever used on note just follow the download instructions carefully

download instructions?Where?
Sweetness indeed...
Can you put 5 columns of apps like in GB, it seems that your video shows only 4. Although plenty of rows.
Also, and although I think it's mandatory as per the ICS specs, can you avoid the 3 hoe, back and search buttons in the screen and instead use the physical ones, even in landscape mode?
Thanks.
Is the S-pen compatible with this ROM?
You mind posting the settings used? I changed the dpi to 213 but I can only use the middle of the screen. Not sure what else needs tweaking to be able to use the full screen...
Great little video
I used the tablet mode for a couple of days and it's a nice change! However, now i'm using the phone mode on ICS Stunner 4.3 and it's equally as awesome
What you guys talking about,...which rom ,what ,,damn did I miss something?

No I don't think we can put 5 columns in apex launcher. That came with the rom. I ain't sure about other launchers.
And I don't think you can remove those three keys from the navigation bar..

I disabled automatic grid size in apex launcher settings>home screen settings. And set the potrait grid size to 9*8. I like having many icons on the desktop so this grid size helps me. You can try 6*6 or anything else you find good for you

Problem getting into tablet mode
I apologise for asking this question, but I haven't found an answer within the forum anywhere and I am unable to post it in the developer section due to me being a new user. I've been using the ICS Stunner 5.0 beta ROM for the past two days now and I am unable to get it to boot into tablet mode. I have followed all of the steps in Euphoria Control to get it into tablet mode, including a custom DPI of 213. I performed a clean install with the ROM and my phone has full root access.
Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers

Hi guys,
I have tried search, but can't find it any where,I love this phone but how do I set a default screen as my home?I use screen 4 as my centre, but if I press the centre button it always takes me to screen 1, can this be changed? Also stock room being used.
Thanks guys if you can help

yeah its a touchwiz feature, if you want to call it that. Screen 1 is the default home page and cannot be changed without being modded. You might want to check the sgs2 section under apps/themes and find the modded touchwiz versions.
This link is for modded versions of touchwiz. If your rooted make a backup and try a couple versions and report back. If not, you made want to contact the OP of that thread and see if he can mod the note version.

Just don't forget that the TouchWiz for SGS2 isn't the same as the Note. It only has 4 icons at the bottom etc. The Notes TW needs to be edited separately.
Just move your favorite screen to screen 1.
This might be a good reason to try one of the many other awesome launchers out there. ADW and LauncherPro are two good ones to try, no rooting necessary.
Should try clicking on my link first before saying that. The OP of the thread I posted has ported the notes and a couple other modded version to allow a bigger grid then the 4x4 of sgs2. Once your rooted, make a backup first, then it wouldnt hurt to try. If things go wrong just recover your backup.
Im one the rare people that actually likes/can deal with touchwiz.

Sorry, but this just isn't true!
From your homescreen, press menu and then edit. You will get a screen showing all your homescreens in a sort of "star" formation. Long press on the screen you want to move and then when it becomes "moveable" drag it to the top left of the star (where your current page 1 is).
Job done!

I guess he wanted to move the home to page 3 lets say so his home screen is on he mid of the rest of the screens. Even now it is too because you can go from page 1 to the last one who is located to the left. You couldn't do that on previous version if I am not mistakenon

I get what he's saying. I have 3 screens and I want screen 2 to be the home screen. Of course I did like that one poster said and edited it, dragging screen 2 to the home position, so now everything I want on my home screen is on the home screen, and but it's still screen 1, not 2. Yes, I I know I can still scroll left to get to screen 3 (as if it were screen 2 to 1 transition), but the scrolling wallpaper goes backwards. I want my home screen to be in the center of my wallpaper.
I tried ADW Launcher since they had the $0.10 sale on it, and it was great, up until I finished adding my last icons and widgets, then it got laggy. If it hadn't been for the lag, it would've been perfect.

03 JAN 2013 I finally was able to achieve TABLET UI for my XXLSC TW ROM with Unlimited Multiwindow Support just like in Note10.1.
****************************************************************************************************************************************
UPDATE: Some dev may have finally achieved a TW tablet UI...a screenshot here. That is only a screenshot and I have not seen working myself. We'll just have to wait and rely on the dev to release it for those who want such feature on their note.
Can you share patched android.policy.jar and services.jar. I was trying to patch them with help from 0jmaster0, and but since you already did that I can use them and give it a try and report back with findings.
Edit:Thanks xperiacle for sharing your efforts.

Nineteen downloads so far and no feedback. Although I don't know smali code, I have to research and learn a bit in a short span of time and based on my limited knowledge, there are two types of multiwindows: the one on the note1 & note2 and the one on note10.1 and the thing is all 3 devices share the same code but in that code is a conditional check to see if you are using a phone or a tablet based on the computation that barmulio specified in his thread (the check being done not only in windowmanager but also in multiwindowmanager), and when it detects that the device is a phablet/tablet (at least 600dp) the window manager sends signal to systemui to disable systembar which doesn't exist prior to 4.1.2. There could be a lot of other factors but so far that is what I discovered. I actually am enjoying this but it is a bit time consuming. It is a great learning process for me. Now if only molesarecoming can enlighten me about what makes ParanoidAndroid tick, then who knows what may come...I was hoping samsung would implement a PA-like configuration app/setting so we get to choose our preferred layout for multiwindow apps, then it would be awesome. I am sure samsung have more surprises to come based on the fragments of code and resources in its leaked JB ROM. So much time for a JB leak, I guess I'll just wait for the official release for now and enjoy the xmas season.

That is good news if they manage to make it work. But that I believe is running at 160 dpi which may pose a usability problem for a lot of users - one is the text maybe too small to be readable for most. That is the same problem in the Nexus 7 forum, they can get tablet UI by lowering the density at the expense of readability (imagine that on a 5.3" screen like note1, try downloading the screenshot and view it on your screen) unless connected to a bigger screen, so barmulio's solution was achieving tablet UI without lowering density making text as readable as the stock density setting. Another thing I noticed about the screenshot posted is that there is no button for the traybar which controls the multiwindow layout for tablet UI which is the thing that I am trying to achieve by enabling the systembar but so far no luck. But I have achieved a working tablet UI for most apps (Youtube, Photoshop Touch, File Manager HD and other apps if such app has a tablet layout) except without the systembar but without lowering the density so text is as readable as the stock density setting. If an app has tablet layout, it will appear as tablet app, otherwise it will appear as phablet or phone UI. If you want floating multiwindow or the stock multiwindow, then it is easy to switch between the two. I am using it right now and trying to iron out the few misplaced layouts of important stock apps (mostly I replaced with PlayStore alternatives) and making it a usable daily driver. I may release it in the near future with all the working apps. That is enough info for now, some folks might get the idea and beat me to it, he he! Just kidding, sharing is great.

people tend to forget you can increase font size if its to hard to read. With Xperiacle ideas on tablet gui on stock dpi the minute buttons area should be solved.
This is cutting edge stuff. I just hope it wont diminish batterylife like Paranoid mods do for me.

Hi DAGr8,
I used your systemUI awhileback to achieve the desired tablet ui in ICS.
I have been searching your threads and can't find the post detailing how you patch the missing resources.
I have a little time at the moment and want to have a crack at it, the results of which I will post here.

Regarding the new stock launcher in JB 4.2.1 (and beyond?)...
1) How do I now switch from the three CPU performance mode? (power saving/balanced/performance)
2) How do I quickly switch wifi, GPS etc on/off without having to go to the settings?
3) The new slim bar at the top, takes up extra space? We now have even less available screen space than before?
I feel slightly annoyed by Google's idea of progress... in similar fashion to the recent YouTube app updates, the philosophy seems to be: remove features and rearrange stuff.
What do you think?
(I've posted this in the WW 4.2.1 update thread, but I think it deserves its own thread. This is not about the 4.2.1 update in general, it's about the new stock launcher)

Thanks, I saw that option. But it is not a guarantee that it will be there ad infinitum. I wanted to make this post because maybe there is something I was missing in the new launcher.
i believe in 4.2.2 google added a long press functionality to the quick toggles to allow them to be turned on/off quickly. i know i have it on cm10.1 on my phone...
I used the new launcher for about 5 mins before reverting to the old one. I'm sorry, but it's just not practical for a tablet!
also, is it just me or is the multitasking ui kind of dumb?

I switched mine to the new launcher (after checking here that I would be able to revert).
I don't think I lasted even a minute. I actually said ew! out loud.
Did not like that the entire bottom is just the three soft buttons, and centered as well, so i can't reach it with my thumb (I use the tablet almost exclusively in landscape mode). There may be a way to change that, but I also didn't care for the time in the small font up top either.
I hope they never force us to use that launcher. I guess there's always Nova Launcher, which I use on my phone, but don't on the tablet.
Thanks,
Brian
The 4.2 tablet UI works really well on the N7, but doesn't feel quite right on the 10.1" tabs. I really like having the dock back though, and while I appreciate the 'four corners' approach to the Honeycomb UI, I prefer having everything within my thumbs' reach. If Google used an inverted phone shade in the lower right and the on-screen buttons in the lower left for the future tablet UI, I think we'd have a winner.
Even with Nova launcher you still get the same layout.

i actually like the idea of three buttons home back recent apps in the center, so i don't have to reach my hand to the left side, i also like that's there are 2 "notification centers" (one is the "real", the other is quick settings). but i don't like to have 2 bars on top and bottom, so i switched to the old style,
i guess i'll use the new style if they combine the 2 bars into one

I think you're talking about 4.1 layout (tablet mode) and 4.2 (phablet) - and as far as I read before you can easily switch between these two somewhere in Asus Settings (or device settings?) Then you should have the old layout with navbar on bottom and on the right status bar (I don't know if they cooked in the Tiles there) :good:

This is also exactly what I want, I hope that Google gives us this layout in a future update!
Did anyone notice when using the 4.1 launcher (the older one), the UI is kind of too high on the screen? The top of my app icons are over the "google" button used to make searches and there's quite a big unused space between the system bar and the bottom apps. Not sure if I'm making any sense. Am I alone to have this issue?

I personally just really prefer the layout and look and that all my stuff happens at the bottom and only one black bar.

the tablet UI is easy on the fingers as well, you can navigate round the tablet without having to let go or lift a hand
Two black bars is a waste of space and harder to use. It is specially very good for large tablets like nexus 10.

With these two apps you do not need any black bars and their wasted space:
Full!screen: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.tsorn.FullScreen&hl=en
> removes both bars and provides a notification pop-up
LMT (PIE): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150
> The PIE feature allows you to customize two semi-circles sets of buttons which usually replaces navigation buttons plus a lot more.
They both work with Android 4.3 but not perfectly. I suspect these minor issues will be fixed soon.
> Both add an unwanted notification that their perspective app is running. Clicking on them leads to the apps settings page.
> Full!screen will not autostart but can be launched manually and works fine from there. Its configuration page app states that it is incompatible with 4.3 but works anyway.
I have been using both apps for several months now and cannot imagine going back to having the wasted screen space.

I tried using those and they worked great but it removed the black bars from all user accounts and my brother got mad so I had to stop. When I stopped it it also gave me system ui force closes constantly but a reboot fixed it

I just wish Google would put in an option to scoot the buttons over to the left. I'm fine with the top bar, but I don't like the buttons in the middle.
Logically, the tablet UI made so much sense. I do miss being able to see important information like the clock and battery when an app or a game goes to full screen.

Yes exactly. Google should really change the default ui of tablets to tablet ui. Current ui is only suitable for phones.

How do you get the fullscreen app to work? The option to enable will not let me click it at all.

Tablet ui code was removed by Google in version 4.2.2 as they wanted a single unified interface, in previous versions some devices on stock could be tricked into one mode or other by tweaking the build.prop values. Since 4.2.2 the code for the (old) tablet mode needs to be put back into the ROM (As in P.A for example) this means it's not a simple quick task, Once the 4.3 code has been merged with the 4.2.2 sources I am sure we will see all the ROM's on xda updated soon.
Just wonderering if anyone is using the Google Experience launcher? Looks really good on the note almost feels like a Nexus experience. Also it responds to the OK google command on the home screen. Always listening which I thought was only a feature on the Nexus 5 / Motorola?
I hate touchwiz and it was one of the main reasons I was hesitant about buying the note. Now I have the best of both world, best tablet and nexus like experience. The Spen etc still work perfectly. Worth giving it a try..

I used it but ended up back on nova as i am comfortable with it and love the endless customizing.
I'm using it. Wont go back to TW anymore. I wish that there would be option to make folders in application list.

I was using Nova previously. Agree Nova is also superb. I have moved over to google experience as I have a nexus phone and like the fact basically consistent. I have been using android devices for years now but only used Nova a few months ago. Really impressive how it changes the feel / look of the tablet.
Googles launcher is free of course. I got the paid version of Nova...

But how?!
When I launch it the portrait view is the only one available and I don't know how to access the launcher settings
Thanks in advance ?
Hello guys,
I'm coming in from the Note Pro side and wanted to reflect the OP comments. The launcher is smooth as butter and as stated it's as though the GNL was made for the Galaxy Note lineup. I've noticed all S Pen functionalities are fully intact. The best of both worlds...multi Window SPen features with a PURE Google experience!!!

For me it is portrait when tab is horizontal, and vertical when held normally.

Have you turned off screen rotation by mistake?
Just access the normal Samsung setting screen (by tugging the top of the screen down with your finger) and it is the 4th option from the left. Make sure it is selected... Only thing I can. Think of. Bet you have unselected it by mistake.

Yes, if you put the icons on the bottom row, then it is a dock and doesn't move as you swipe between screens.
I've got the paid Nova Launcher as well. I've stuck with it on my S3, but I haven't gone back on the tablet yet. On the S3, I thought the icons were too big and there is zero customization. However, I've enjoyed the Google Now Launcher on the tablet more so than I thought I would.
If there was a Google Now widget that is always listening that I could use with Nova, I would go back. Heck, I might still go back after the novelty of "Ok Google" wears off.
I finally did it......GREAT LAUNCHER!!!
