[SOLVED] Any key screen wake for stock? - Thinkpad Tablet General

As the title says, is there any way to set the function of, let say, the back key or the search key to wake the screen?
I know that the ICS port has this function natively but i'm using stock.
i tried Button Remapper and NoLock without success.
any ideas?
note: the reason being is that i need to replace the camera pcb since the power is busted.
it works.... if i pressed on the button with extreme force (yes, i've attempted to rectify the issue myself, but screwed up to the point where i can't undo and fix.)
SOLVED: I edited key 248 (rotation key) with "POWER WAKE".
so now that key can turn off the tablet or wake it.
Makes things with tablet much more bearable until i get the front camera pcb ]replaced.

Broken Power button

With a broken power button, is there any way I can get my xda2 into bootloader mode so I can change the ROM?
i doubt it unless you take it apart and shortcurcit the to points that the powerbutton is connected to
would prob be easier to put in a new button then i guess
I may be wrong but doesn't the power button actually put the phone into suspend mode?
Would it work to map the "suspend" function to another button (like the calendar button)? Or does a hard reset only work with the usual specific hardware buttons?
no it's not the only function
clicking on a suspece software shortcut
while reseting the device dont result in a hardreset
I have a solution. i have the same problem. Get a paperclip, and insert it into the hole where the power button should be. Slide it in until your device turns on/off. Then hold it there carefully, and press and hold the ACTIOn key and the reset button.
Works for me!

Soft Keys weird behavior

My soft keys are acting weird. sometimes when i press the home button right after a boot, it captures screen, meaning the 'menu' soft key is depressed. However, after that the softkeys don't respond anymore.
Also, sometimes while powering on, the Galaxy boots up in 'safe mode', meaning again that the 'menu' button is depressed (the way to enter safe mode is by pressing the menu button with the power button).
I have checked the key map in the clockwork recovery which show the 'menu' & 'back' key responding only once before going dead.
During general operation, the softkeys don't work at all and i'm left with only the home button.
Since the keys respond once, i'm sure they're not broken. Seems like a software error. I have tried different kernels & 3 diff roms, but the situation is the same.
Any help to ascertain / solve the problem will be appreciated
Similar issue
I had a similar issue on a brand new phone, the soft keys would detect my finger from about 1cm away, so holding the phone and moving you grip would cause them to activate, eventually they would lock up until you locked the screen and tried again. It was totally a hardware issue, I replaced the phone used the same ROM and no issues.
the reason i'm convinced its not a hardware fault is that the keys 'blink' when i touch them which means they are registering touch. its got to be something else.
the Galaxy has got to be the most mysterious device ever!
Sounds like you ought to send it in for a replacement.
You can try a touchkey firmware update.
Make sure you're on your device's stock ROM otherwise you'll lose your touchkeys.
ENTER *#*#2663#*#* in the dialer. Then update the touchkey firmware and reboot.
You should be able to return to your other ROM after this.

Menu and back button.

I just bought a used hd2 yesterday, and it came with magldr with ultimate droid rom 3.3. I found out that none of the physical button acts as a Menu and Back button which makes navigation and menu access very hard. I even changed roms but still same thingn
My question is, is hd2 don't map physical keys as menu and back? Or is my unit actually defective? All the buttons work though, only that the Window and Home button does the same thing while Back and End button turns off the screen.
Thanks in advance!
Update: I have manage to get the menu (window) button working, but the back button is more trickier.. it seems thatt the physical button is actually pressing other keys.. in this case when I pressed the Window button for menu.. it will actually press the Home button which will bring me back to home screen. And for the back button, its actually pressing the End button, although I did manage to get it to press its back button, but its quite difficult. Does anyone knows how to fix this?
reply back button
I think that u may have a faulty back button or that dirt got under it thefe are guides on here xda that show u how to fix back button etc but it requires you taking phone apart and you need to read guides totally and follow steps there are also guides on youtube as well. It also sounds that the buttons might have been remapped there is an app called button remapper that allows you to change what the physical buttons do like the phone button back button etc do in other words you can change what every physical button on your hd2 does like for example the volume keys you would be able to change to back button etc. Read about button remapper on google before attempting to use app hope this helps you.
That's a common issue in the HD2, probably your device is defective.
Don't bother with the warranty, replacement and all that stuff since the back and menu aren't required for flashing or entering bootloader mode.
Just download "zMooth" app from market. (Pro version will give you End & Search)
I would prefer fixing the physical keys as they are important functions that is required in order to navigate around. Any links to how to fix the buttons? I think they are just misaligned because of prolong usage. Because multiple tries proves that it can still work.
Update: I have seen the official tutorial video for disassmbling the HD2, to just replace the keypad flex ribbon requires one to go very deep inside the phone before you can actually access the flex ribbon for the keypad. Now i am thinking twice to repair the physical button, let alone give an unofficial service guy to replace it.
@Marvlesz
I have installed zMooth, nice app.. but take some time getting used to. thanks!
or you can try a cm7 rom and use the tablet tweak soft keys in the options.
u can use button savior to replace all buttons .. it's a must have for me ..
Does anyone know if physical button problem such as mine are caused by the wear and tear of the flex cable or is it because of the plastic buttons itself?

[Guide] Anti pocket unlock tweak

New guy here!
I'm from holland and I have a 2009 hd2 which is currently running AOKP Milestone 5 SE
So this is my first guide and i'll start with something simple.
Eliminating those frustrating pocket unlocks and the screen turning on in your pocket which drains your battery.
The easiest option is to start using your volume rocker as a unlock button and removing all the front button mappings for waking your phone.
Your power button is still your lock button though.
1. Find out if your rom has any special rom options (e.g. rom control, some toolbox, cynogen mod options etc)
2. Go through those options and try to find something with volume wake, it's probably under lockscreen options.
3. If you have found the option enable it, if not you have to download WidgetLocker in the market it comes with the option in it.
4. Once you've tested it we can begin with disabling the front keys by downloading ButtonRemapper in the market.
5. Now when you're in the app, you are seeing a list of key numbers with their name and function behind it. key number 116 is the only one you need to keep on its original state, it is for the power button when the phone is unlocked.
6. Start by clicking a key and putting its state in NONE and press ok, now do this for the remaining keys, EXCLUDING 116.
7. Hit the apply button and see your hd2 hot rebooting
8. When the phone comes to its senses again, try it out!
Lock with your power button
Unlock with your volume rocker.
It almost feels like a modern android phone with the lock/unlock button on the top or side.
I hope you like it, because I really do!

Nice guide! Very similiar to my original mod here but you make it a bit more simplified xD
After removing WAKE and WAKE_DROPPED from the keys, clicking buttons doesn't wake the screen (as expected), but lights the buttons, and they stay lit forever (i.e. until the next unlock/lock).
Do you also experience the same thing? Any solution?

Yes this is normal, caused by a gpio wake lock from the kernel. No solution yet, I personally don't care as it drains a lot less battery than having your screen come on

gpio don't need wakelocks in kernel, when interrupt is raised, cpu exits suspend and services the raised gpio interrupt. This is problem with bad coding logic of the key's backlight driver, i will see what can be done in some days (really busy atm).

This is still kernel related though right? as it deals with the driver? And you really dont have to work on it its not that big of a deal, put it on lowwwww priority you do amazing work here so as it is
the most important thing is to not keep anything else metal and/or hard, in your pocket with the hd2. Items like batteries or keys

This idea is awesome, thank you!
I've customized it a little bit to save my power button (and so my touchscreen connector).
I've set all my hardware buttons to power, but without wake property.
Now, I can:
Lock with any hardware button
Unlock with volume rocker.
thanks a lots aha

Password Protect Shutdown?

i would like to password protect my phone when someone tries to shut it down, Is this possible?
Or maybe using Tasker? i have that installed with the secure settings plugin, Thanks!
Bump
I don't think it will work with the Nexus 4 since they can hold the Power button for 7 seconds and the device will turn itself off anyway.
I know that if you go to /system/usr/keylayout/, there are several *.kl files that map the hardware keys. KEY 116 is always mapped to POWER. I guess you could edit all of the kl files and unmap key 116 so it won't do anything. I highly doubt it would work though, and obviously it would create other issues like turning the screen back on and I doubt it would skip the "hold 7 seconds power off method".
If you are concerned about theft, try Cerberus. With root, it can survive in a phone even after factory reset.
Just found this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nezdroid.lockscreenprotector
Doesn't work with CyanogenMod, but it does with stock. Apparently it causes the Power menu to disappear immediately when triggered.
