[Q] how to install pdroid patch in a sd installation - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using nook color with CM7.2 mirage on SD card.
I made the pdroid patch with the patcher, but after flashing it, it will show black screen on boot.
I've searched a lot of site and couldn't find any solution.
Please help! Thanks!

MIUI Nook Color 1.9.16 on SD Card?

I have searched diligently and have yet to find specific instruction for creating a bootable SD card for my NC with MIUI Nook Color 1.9.16 (or any version of MIUI for that matter).
I am currently running a fully rooted version of 1.3 on the emmc and "all is well" and I need it left that way so as to continue having access to "in store reading" which I use quite a bit.
Have previously had CM7 and Phiremod running both internally and on an SD card at various times and tried to do a previous version of MIUI on the card using the same process without any luck.
Thanks in advance.
You can use verygreens method here -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
Important part is to rename the miui zip like this -
'How to update to a new build:
put the new build you want to try on the first partition. (the name must be update-cm-*.zip or cm_encore_full*.zip or just update-*.zip)'
..and it should work fine
cheers,
Many thanks as that did the trick!
Loaded and running from SD card.
It installed/is using the new Market interface (3.1.3?).
Where are/is "My Apps" as I do not seem to be able to find it.
D/L Netflix and it runs just as it should but the soundlevel at max is quite a bit lower than on rooted 1.3.
Free Koi living wallpaper looks beautiful.
My Apps - strangely there isn't one, but this works nicely -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154299
Sound level - Download nook tweaks from market and change settings in that
Cheers,
What did you rename the MIUI file? I've tried it a couple different ways and checked the MD5's, but keep getting errors. Unless my SD card has been corrupted somehow (I used it for other SD boots before this, so not too likely), I can't think of anything else causing the problem.
Hi. I tried putting the MIUI zip in the root of the sd card and booted into recovery as stated. It was renamed as one of the cm7 updates and installation went as per normal. However, when I did boot up the nook was stuck looping the MIUI animation and did not finish. What did I do wrong?

Maybe just didn't wait long enough... the first boot takes a long time since the update script clears cache and dalvik cache.
Of course... this is just a wild guess since you didn't provide a whole lot of information... more information may yeild different feedback.

What kind of information? My nook color originally had the latest CM7 nightly on the sd card. I followed verygreen's method when I installed that. I used the NC normally. Then, I followed this thread and applied verygreen's method. I downloaded the MIUI rom from the miui thread, renamed it like the cm7 nightly zip ("cm_encore_full-253.zip") and put it in the root of the sd card. I put the sd card back in and booted via recovery. It installed and shut down. I turned it on again, and reached the MIUI globe thing. It was looping and stuck there for 30 minutes.
I've been thinking of trying miui.
If anybody has got.it running from SD please give the step-by-step procedure for the rest of us.
Thanks
A search would show you....

I hate to revive a dead thread, but I have been trying everything I could read or download.
I am using the Size-agnostic installer from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
I am trying to flash MIUI 1.9.16 (MIUI.us_encore_1.9.16_Eng_Deo_ZipA_Signed_andmer) (http://goo-inside.me/miui/encore/)
I successfully installed CM7 to this Sandisk Class4 16gig microSD. Every time I try to flash MIUI, I re-burn the size agnostic card image, copy over the cm7-renamed MIUI ROM, and boot.
The installer seems to work, just like my CM7 installs. Then, when I try to reboot, it goes back to the installer (linux penguin at the top, goes through the motions of trying to flash another rom, when not finding anything, it shuts down).
I know I am missing something simple.
Am I to install CM7, then MIUI on top of it (without reburning the card)? Am I just using an SD-incompatible ROM? For those who were successful, where did you download the ROM from?
I know I have lots of questions, I hope you guys see my effort (that I don't just want someone to give me a quick fix), and I thank you in advance for your help.
Kind regards!

I'm certainly no expert, but I have flashed two different versions of MiUi to micro SD cards adn then worked fine. You do not need to do i over CM7. Like you, I prepared a clean SD and used the size agnostic procedure. I renamed the MiUi file to some that started with update-cm-
I got my MiUi file here:
http://roms.miui.us/
I used a program called SD Formatter to format the card.. then I used the 1.3 version installer. I sometimes had problems using winimage to create this sd card . You have to select the drive letter for the sd card and then use the "restore" choice on the menu.
David, thanks for your response. I had already wiped it and installed CM7, but when I saw your post, I gave MIUI one last try. I downloaded from that site, and BAM, it installed perfectly! Thanks heaps!

How to? Phiremod 7.1 from SD

Does anyone know the procedure for making a bootable sd card that will run the Phiremod 7.1 rom from the sd card on my Nook Color? I don't want to put it on the emmc and I can't seem to find out how to do this. I have tried just changing the file name to make it think it was like the CM7 build but that does not work. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ron
Use verygreens 1.3 method to do this. Phiremod can be done just like the original CM7. Search for verygreens post in dev. section
I did try it once. Do you just copy the Phiremod zip onto the SD card in place of the CM7 zip file? Do you have to change the file name of the Phiremod zip?
Thanks for the info I will give it a shot again. Maybe I did something wrong. I did get the Cm7 to work.
Ron
Better to rename something similar to the original CM7. Though, ymmv.

[Q] Dualboot Mirage CM7 / ICS CM9 Image for SDcard- Update Not Found on uSD

Racks11479 posted the instructions on how to dula boot CM& and ICS from the uSD card. I had no problem with the initial installation but when I try to follow the update instructions Recovery says the update file cannot be found.
I copied the update-longname.zip file to the uSD root and I can see it in Windows7 but not on the Nook in the Racks11479 methodolgy. I would post this to the Nook Development forum but I do not have permission because of the 10 post rule.
How do I fix this problem?

I'm fairly certain you want the update*.zip file on the sdcard partition, not boot. Correction, I'm completely certain.

Dualboot Mirage CM7 / ICS CM9 boot issues.
Hi, slightly different issue here. I am installing Dualboot Mirage CM7 / ICS CM9. I got the CM7 part of it running with no problem but when it came to CM9, it got stuck at the boot animation screen (Weird flipping panels)over 20mins. I have tried reformatting the sdcard and that didn't work. Any ideas on how to fix said issue.

How do you see it in Windows 7?
From uSD plugged in directly to PC running W7 or via directly from the NC via USB?
If it's an item 1, you are in the wrong location.
I was loading the .zip in the wrong location. Thanks for the heads up.

No. I know dizzyden was working on a way to make that happen, but as far as I know, stock only works on emmc.
But you could put stock back on emmc and your Kang on SD.
Ah ok, thanks for the help

Would it be possible to just do a cwm backup of my current Rom then restore it onto the sdcard install?

No. Apparently there is some code in the ROM that expects it to be on emmc. It fails if on SD.

Well in answer to the original poster in this thread, I now have a way to get Stock on a verygreen SD. Look at my tips thread linked in my signature and look at item B11 in the second post of that thread. You can even have rooted stock with OC and apps2SD support.
I am still working on a method of having stock on SD while still using data on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2... I have not given up... just gotten side tracked a time or two.

Mine does that. Just had to modify the ramdisk.
Thanks for all the help and Info leap and dizzy ....ill go try it out and let you know
edit: Its been awhile since i made a sd rom....so far i have made the sdcard from This and i dont exactly understand how to do the rest of it properly, my nook color is on the cm7.2 kang build with mirage kernel and in Leap's instructions it says
leapinlar said:
So the procedure to get this working is to prepare a verygreen SD using the image file attached to my SD installation instructions thread here (generic-sdcard...). Then boot it at least once with the SD installed in the Nook so the SD can partition itself. If you have an existing verygreen SD prepared, you can skip those two steps. Copy the zip files to somewhere that recovery can find them. If you use the newest versions of CWM or TWRP recovery they can read files from emmc media storage. Boot to recovery and insert the prepared verygreen SD into the Nook. Flash the ROM zip to the SD. It will format the system and data partitions on the SD and install the ROM. Boot to the SD and the new stock ROM should load. Follow the directions to register with B&N. Once you have registered you can stop there if you are satisfied with plain stock. But be warned, if B&N decides to update to a new version in the future, it may mess up whatever you have installed on emmc. Therefore I recommend that you flash the Block Updates zip which blocks OTA updates. If you flash Manual Nooter you do not have to flash Block Updates separately since it is included in Manual Nooter. To install Block Updates, Manual Nooter or OC/apps2SD support, flash the zips to the SD with recovery just like you did the ROM. If you flash Manual Nooter, it has gapps and Market with it so you must register them with Google. And you need root if you want to the OC and apps2SD support, plus you will need a program like SetCPU to adjust the processor.
You can get the modified 1.4.3 B&N stock ROM zip here, the modified Manual Nooter zip here, the modified OC/apps2SD zip here, and the modified Block Updates zip here (all four modified for verygreen SD installation).

I have done the partitioning on the sdcard so it now has the 4 partitions in it....the nook is running CWM 3.2.0.1 emmc recovery. I've downloaded all 4 zip files, but i only plan on putting the stock nook, and manual nooter (leap says it includes the update blocker) on it

You need to update your emmc recovery to a newer version so that you can flash those zips from internal memory (emmc media). You will run into problems finding the files with 3.2.0.1 since you have to take your normal SD out and put your verygreen SD in.
So flash this zip:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23537853
Then copy the downloaded files to emmc media, boot to the new CWM and select the files from internal memory and flash them to your inserted verygreen SD.
EDIT: I just updated my instructions in my tips to make that clearer. Thanks.

I have built in safeguards to make sure that won't happen. If no SD is in the slot, it won't flash, if the SD in the slot is not formated with 4 partitions, it won't flash. And when it finally does flash, it is hard coded to go to SD. Flash away. First ROM then a little later after you have registered and let it finish loading books, the manual nooter.

It took me a very long time to download the books and I have a fast connection. I think B&N just pushes them out slow for stock. Other stuff downloads fast, like once you are rooted and you download apps from play store.

hmm...now im having problems redownloading some books that started to download, but i turned the nook off when i went out to dinner and now i cant tell if the books that were downloading are actually continuing to download or not...would it be possible to download the books on the cm7.2 android app and then copy them over to the nook sd?
Brah....dang it...I messed up by accidently hitting the erase and deregister button.....it didn't seem to erase anything, but it did deregister it...would I have to remake the SD and then reflash the rom again? (Not that it is a big deal or time consuming to do lol)
