As expected, VZW and ATT had to screw the users somehow
No surprise there.....US phones that are released worldwide are ALWAYS lacking features and bonuses that the rest of the world receives
Just came to post this. Such crap! I'm beginning to aggressively hate Verizon more and more each day.
Would we be able to "hack" ourselves around this road block?

I'm sure the reason for this is the recently announced Dropbox video streaming. Now its very easy to upload all your media to the 50GB space, then stream it whenever you want without having to sync/download. It's like Google Music for videos, except it uses 10x the bandwidth.
Carriers are NOT happy about that because they can't charge you for it. Both VZW and ATT have lots of people with grandfathered unlimited data, and most who never come close to the bandwidth caps. So they are trying to prevent this.
This reminds me of when I opened my HOX and the beats headphones weren't there!

Not supporting at&t but HTC didn't put beats headphones on the international one x as well. They said they won't be doing that going forward.

HTC stopped including Beats headphones with their phones a few months back. That's across their entire catalog not just in the US.
While this would not have stopped me from purchasing the phone, I'm pretty frustrated and feel cheated because Verizon decided to drop something that the phone was presumed to come with, and without notifying customers whatsoever that they opted out of the otherwise standard promotion.

This doesn't make any sense to me. Are you saying that accessing dropbox data doesn't count against your monthly bandwidth total? I find that hard to believe.

If that's Verizon's thinking it makes me question what percentage of their customer base still has the unlimited plans. While people with unlimited plans can abuse something like this I have to believe that the people who don't have unlimited far outweigh those that do. Furthermore 50GB of easily accessible storage seems like a good way to induce people into data overages.
Not sure if anyone saw this. If you purchase a S3, Dropbox is offering 50gb of storage for free for 2 years. If you purchase a HTC One X you get 25gb of storage for free for 2 years. So you can tell Verizon and AT&T to stuff it because Dropbox is being the nice guys here.

Oh so sorry. Didn't even read the first link. I know AT&T is evil, but I didn't think Verizon was like that. I hope Rogers doesn't pull an AT&T and Verizon on us.
I think we should protest against this. I'm definitely going to ask about this, and if Sprint/TMobile had any sense they would advertise this.
There's little chance this decision will be reversed but we must fight.
Ok ATT One X gets the 25GB promotion but not the SGS3? Wow can't even say how much i hate all carriers...they control too many things. Im happy to have the international version and ill drop by their store flaunting my sgs3 and show my middle finger to them

Just read an article online & it said sprint takes big risks to buy 20 billion worth of iPhone in next 4 years but that they are going to get the iPhone 5 while At&t & Verizon get iPhone 4s then I think they get the 5 early 2012!! I think Sprint crazy to put up that much they should of did maybe 10&?$billion & use the other 10billion to build out there 4g lte to get it out to people faster!!! What you guys think

Oh dude, people will be so pissed if this is true... most people in my area hate sprint because of how crappy the service is while I cling tightly to my unlimited data despite its constant slowness.
It makes sense as to why sprint would do this and I do see this bringing in a good rush of customers, but to bank so much money on exclusivity for a few months seems like a gamble to me.
Time will tell though, its not like we have to wait that long to find out...

not like theyre giving the money away, they going to sell the phone and make a profit/add customers with this... as we've seen iphones sell... sprint wants more things that sell to make more money...
I think this would be good, in coming customers who wish to have an iphone with a network you don't have to worry about usage, whih is what a lot of new apple users are looking for. Ease of use and no issues, well I don't necessarily agree with that. but being how well apple helped verizon I think it could actually help sprint add to their network and net worth.

Hopefully, Sprint gets an exclusive on a Wimax-enabled iPhone 5 starting this month while the other carriers have to wait for an LTE-enabled iPhone 5 in early 2012.
This is great for Apple, but not so much for Sprint. Apparently they haven't seen how Android sales numbers are trending against Apple. $20BB is a lot to gamble on another company -- especially when you are hoping that every future phone the make will continue to be a hit, even with their decreasing market share.... Kinda late to be a fanboy, but oh well.
If this is true. Then many will jump to Sprint. Will the network handle it?!?

Missing Market
Android phones are better in my option; however, there is a large number of people that need a Fisher-Price type phone. These people cannot be allowed to have unlimited options. They are people that cannot understand words like; root, rom or even kernel when applied to a cell phone. For this demographic Apple creates the best "Fisher-Price" phone. Sheepeople are told this is the way your phone works, these are your only apps and you will be happy.
Sprint should be able to greatly increase its customers with the addition of this "phone." The only downside is when you are trying to contact customer service about a real issue; you will have to wait on hold while someone is told "open the box. The box your phone came in. The black and yellow box with Sprint and iPhone on it. You have to take the phone out of the box to make a call......"

The way people use data on their iPhones, we're bound to be heading for tiered data plans. Seriously though Sprint with so many other places to stuff your money you choose apple? As an irrelevant side note, pandora only uses about 30-45mb an hour to run. You could run pandora 24x7 for a week before you hit a 5gb cap.
perhaps I'm missing something, but this seems like an awful big gamble to stake on what, for all intents and purposes, has been revealed to be a 16-month old phone brought to a new carrier. I don't see enough differentiation between the 4 and the 4s to warrant the size of this investment. So, either Sprint's banking solely on the name recognition of iPhone or they anticipate a superior device being delivered sooner rather than later.
Great idea. Invest billions in the next greatest thing to hit the market. Oh wait....the iPhone has been around for years and is losing marketshare at a rapid pace and is in litigation wars with just about every other phone manufacturer. Hitching your cart to the wrong horse in my opinion.
Anyone who wants an iPhone already has one. I doubt there are that many people dying to jump on Sprint with the lack of iPhone being the only thing holding them back.
Wow... Sprint is just fail..
WTF did they do with all that money? It is not even exclusive.
What's going on????????

You probably didn't go through the how to.
If you go to your local T-Mo store, you can factory reset a HTC One S, log into DB, fly through the menu and log out. Get I think it was an additional 20-25GB on top of your 50GB you just got.
Its my understanding that you need to login through the phone every so often or it will assume you've just signed in from a device for the free space.

Hi,
I was debating whether I should ask this question here or at Spring GS3 forum. I think asking here is more fitting.
I am wondering if I should stay with Sprint or not. I am honestly sick of slow data speed and delayed updates for CDMA phones.
But with wonderful dev magic shown here for our Epic4G, I think there won't be much software issues for GS3.
My alternative is Tmo's prepaid monthly4G for $30 per month. I really like the idea of owning GSM phone and getting unhindered updates from google. But there aren't any nexus phone that is better spec'ed then GS3. Also buying GS3 outright is pretty expensive, +$500.
So, if any of you guys switched to GS3, how are you guys? Any issues or regrets?
How is Sprint's data speed? I just found out from today's news that Sprint's gonna roll out LTE to LA, Boston and NYC area within months.
I just don't want to risk locking in 2 years with Sprint and be miserable...

To directly respond to the OP, regardless of what you decide on phonewise, if it were me, I'd definitely stick with Sprint, particularly if T-mo is the only alternative you're considering. Yeah, Sprint's speeds where NV hasn't hit yet suck, but if they stay on schedule, everything is supposed to be upgraded by the end of next year. And alot more is being done by the end of this year than I'd have imagined when I first heard of it a few months ago.

Well, I am in LA area so I kinda expect LTE to open soon...
But, T-mo prepaid already has HSPA+ working well in my area.
I am guaranteed at least 3mbps with Tmo HSPA+ for sure, and that is all I need.
I like their cheaper plan, but it is bummer to pay lump sum of ~$350 for a year old G-Nex or ~$600 for GS3...
I am hoping for a new nexus device, but no solid rumors about when it will be available... just speculations.
It might come next year, which is too much waiting for me...
If Sprint somehow offers me free GS3 I would stay, but I don't think Sprint can. So I am ready to walk out...
It comes down to if you want the fastest software updates or the best hardware available..
I went gs3 because the hardware is amazing.. and touchwiz really is nice on this thing.. its not like the epic where it just kind of makes things uglier.. it actually adds a lot of usable features on the gs3.. to the point where I would rather run a custom tw than aosp.
P.s. the screens bigger too!

I suspect we won't see any notifications till October. My guess, the phone will probably release around mid-October and they'll start preorders about two weeks prior to release. The good news is that since Samsung has a page on the variant and a model number, It probably going through the FCC review, if not already, and supports an October release.
As the VR headset, I'm not sold on it. I think it'll be interesting device, but I think it'll be very limited in support. I just can't see it having a large enough install base to make it popular for a lot developers to devote time to develop or modify applications for it. And the $200US price tag seems high for a device that may so limited. It's only usable, as we know thus far, just on the phone. No external power source, so just your phone's battery. No way to use with your PC for those games. In fact, there was an article I read that showed that getting an Octulus for the PC was cheaper than the Note 4 and VR. If they throw it in free, I'll get one. If it was $50 or less, most likely, over $100, not likely.
Plus, I wonder how the VR works. I have issues--lazy eye and colorblindness--so I have no idea if it'll work for me. The new 3D technology does not work at all for me. I have 3D TV and Playstation3, and got the active 3D glasses to check out. The 3D did not work at all. I only saw a lower resolution picture since the 3D tech uses one's cross reference between the two eyes to create the depth perception. I use one eye significant more over the other. There's a reason why I've taken a few baseballs to the throat; yes it hurt. So, on the top of the support, you can understand my skepticism for my own potential experience with it.
I'm actually more curious about the S Gear in regards to the US or Sprint. I think that may be more a more useful device. I would have preferred it to run Android, or Android Wear. I like the hardware it's bringing, and hope it'll bring manufactures to do similar. My other concerns with it, will it work with devices that do not have TouchWiz? What about the glass? Is it crystal like a good watch, or some kind of gorilla glass. Watches tend to get scratched if they're any kind of glass. If they have some kind of bundle where they offer the Gear S on the cheap side, say about $100, I would probably go with something like that.
Ah, it's exciting times for new toy(s).

It'll probably work for you since the device shows both eyes live feed (no shutter/no anaglyph). Also there are a bunch of programs that allow you stream PC games to the phone. They are not samsung supported/designed products but they do work (TriDef3D for example, there are also a bunch of android games that support the splitview 3D) I currently have a note 2 and built a custom "google cardboard" vr headset and it works great but the resolution is not so great. So, at least for me, I am accustomed to this type of headset and enjoy it quite a bit for games like Skyrim. In short, you can do everything with an android phone (any of them) that you can do with the Oculus, as there is software and hardware (DIY for most, but we have Galaxy VR now) that supports it.
Also, all US variants of the Note 4 have passed FCC as of a few days ago.

that is excellent news. I hadn't heard Verizon and a couple other hadn't going through yet, but ATT and Sprint had.
And if what you say is true about the VR and my vision, that would be excellent. There's nothing like handing over the 3D glasses to my mother and asking, "is this working? Do you see a 3D picture" And her response, "yes, and it's so cool. wow look at the sky.." it should be noted, this has been the case with most 3D stuff such as 3D rides. The old 3D tech with the blue and red paper glasses worked a little bit, but I've never had that in your face image coming out of the screen. The sad part, if it actually works and does so well, I would probably buy just because of that fact.
Im eligible to upgrade now with Sprint but Should i get in on preorder list or wait until black friday to order the phone with deep discount price? decision decision..

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here, I'm just going on what I've observed in the past. I've never noticed any savings during holiday season/black friday on phones (maybe the lower end / not as popular ones to get more subscriptions) but the newly released high-end phones usually don't get discounts (the year old Note 3 probably will get a liquidation price). I thought that's why manufacturers released phones around this time of the year is because people "have money" or are willing to spend less frugally than other times in the year, meaning full price on the phone. If you're buying the phone without subscription discount (~$800), the full price/non-contract phone might be discounted during the holidays.

If you want to wait, why not wait. What's the worst that will happen? You won't get the phone on release day?

A quick search showed that a number of popular phones were discounted during Black Friday the past 2 years.

bootloader unlock
I'm a Verizon customer and want to jump ship. Sprint note 4 should have an unlocked bootloader if history repeats itself. Any long time Sprint customers want to fil me in on some pointers? Which plan is the best? Throttling on certain plans? Etc. Etc. I do have Sprint lte in my area soooo I'm very tempted.

If you're looking for an individual plan then sprint is going to be offering a $60 unlimited everything plan with a note 4 purchase.

Isn't that one throttled (optimized)? I think the Framily isn't. On Verizon I can swap my SIM around into any phone with no issues at any time. Can you do that with Sprint too?

I don't believe it is throttled. The framily plan doesn't exist anymore. The new family plans are called family share pack and they have a bucket of 20gb that you share so not unlimited.
The quickest way to swap phones on sprint is by logging into your account and entering the imei of the new phone. Takes just a minute or two but not as simple as swapping sims.

I just actually read in the fine print that the bandwidth is optimized. There are still Framily plans they just aren't advertised. Thanks for the SIM swap info that helps cause a person at Sprint said I needed to come in the Swype.
I finally picked up my Note 4 today at my local Verizon store and I'm loving this device so far. But when I got home to take my accessories out of the box, I noticed that I was missing a set of earbuds that I've seen included during the unboxing of this phone on other carriers. So when I called Verizon to see if the earbuds were supposed to be included in the package they informed me that were not. In fact, the customer rep told me that the only phone on Verizon's network that comes with earbuds was an iPhone. Then I made the statement "Well I guess I know who is on Apple's payroll" which in return the customer rep just laugh lol.
Now I have to go and drop around $50 I'm guessing to get a pair of decent earbuds with a mic and volume control to use with my new Phone.

They didn't include it with the Note 2 either so I'm not surprised really. It sucks, I like Samsung's earbuds...
30 bucks will get you better than what comes with the phone, but yes, it's a cheap ass move on their part.
10 dollars will get you just as good or better. I can't believe people are still whining about this. go look for jbuds on amazon. they're cheap and last forever.

Beside the one that comes with HTC One series, the rest are junk. You are missing nothing. I'd invest in a decent set of headphone.

Yup, Panasonic ergofit goes around 8-15 on Amazon, best cheap earbuds.
Thank you everyone for the suggestions.... I'm new to Verizon so I wasn't aware that it was common practice not to have those included. I will definitely check out amazon and see what I can find :good:

I completely agree with you, Sprint customer care is terrible and I hate calling. I wish I could help every customer myself. I hope they improve Verizon customer care is amazing at least when I had them... then again if you have unlimited I could never talk you into leaving lol
