I know there a few Nook Specific Launchers that were started and never finished. Now if the developers plan to finish them or not i don't know.
Are we ever going to see one?
Is there anyone up for the challenge?
Does anyone one else even care?
The nook is obviously not a tablet. So i don't think a STD android home screen does it justice. It needs an eReader interface with added functionality. There has to be someone out there that can either take over the 1/2 finished launcher or make one from scratch.. any are you out there?

I know it may be a bit of a minority option, but I actually like the native Nook Color launcher(and I really hate the dual UI that come about with rooted Nook firmware), so I would really like to see third party apps show up there. Do we know why they don't show up? Does the Nook launcher have a special database or something that the native installer writes to? Would it be possible to either modify and existing apk installer or write a new one that could "properly" install apps?
It's something I may look into in the coming days/weeks, but I wanted to know if there has been any work in that direction yet before I start blind.
If I remember correctly, the apps will appear after a reboot unless something has changed in an update.
Sorry, my NC broke awhile ago. Kindda left it on top of the car when i drove off. XD

If your NC hasn't flown off your car top yet, I'll pay FedEx First Class shipping fee if you can send it over to me
Has anyone adjusted the DPI to be able to download Tablet Apps? Like Gmail? or the CNN or Mint apps (examples).
Is it even possible?
I wanna know this too...
Some of the custom Roms make it easier to download all tablet app. For example the energy ics Rom I believe mimicks a samsung tablet that is compatable with more apps
I would like an answer to this to..
Would like to know this too... as I am deciding between a tablet and a kindle.
Hello,
I have been researching lately about e-readers and such.
I started off with Amazon Kindle and found very interesting the K Touch.
Then I found out about Nook and its Nook Touch (I would be interested in the one with GlowLight, quite cool).
I know that both Kindle and Nook have some sort of root/jailbreak.
I also know that Kindle has a very young jailbreak and it doesn't seem to have a very big community (yet).
I would like to know which one, in your opinion, has the best features available once rooted/jbroken.
And, concerning the Nook, know what kind of extra features I would get rooting the Nook.
I read somewhere that Nook has an expansion slot which allows to boot other OS from an SD: very interesting.
But what about apps? games? music player?
[This thread is very likely to make choose one device over the other]
Thanks in advance.

hi folks.
gonna be getting me one of these when they go on sale in a week or so here in the uk.
i want one to root because it looks like the perfect ereader to use with pdfs.
my question is once rooted and touchnooter is installed multi touch and no refresh are enabled and the very few apps i want installed are on the deivce can i then somehow remove the market app?
the plan is to simply install a few other ebook apps some pdf apps gmail skydrive and then never install another app ever. i want it as minimal as possible to help with the battery and the less that is on there the better
if anyone knows please let me know.
cheers
You could remove Market after using TN, or simply root without it. I've spent a lot of time looking at battery consumption on my NSTs, and have never noticed Market causing any drain worth worrying about.
With the recent release of Amazon's Kindle Paperwhite, you might want to wait to see how B&N responds. The NST is nice enough, but a capacitive screen would be nice.

thanks for the reply. yes i did see the tinynoot root solution after i originally posted this thread.
my question about that is if i used that method can i still install the multi touch and no refresh hack (i am guessing i can but confirmation would be nice). if i can then i will most likely go down that route. it isnt all about battery life but i know the market does check very often when wifi is enabled for updates and what not and i would rather not have to worry about that at all. bottom line i want to keep the reader as close to a reader as possible. pdf email web browser ebook reader and file manager is all that is needed. nothing more is required or wanted and therefore i want it is minimal as possible with no bells or whistles.
not really too fussed about any new future nook and will take the plunge as soon as i can here in the uk. if they bring out something extra special later then i will simply sell the old and buy the new but i will do that as and when i want/ have to. the reason the nook gets my vote over my kindle is the page turn buttons. i have a keyboard 3g at the moment and it is great but it doesnt handle pdfs very well. i bought the new kindle touch but i missed the physical buttons and so bought another keyboard but amazon have crippled the pdf functionality and although i could jailbreak it and install one of the pdf viewer hacks that improve the situation i cant be bothered with all the faffing around. however i was willing to do this but then i saw the multi touch no refresh hack on the nook and watched how it handled pdfs when the hacks were installed and that was me sold. i have a lot of pdfs that i would to view on an e ink screen and the nook is by far and away the best solution for the job.
"can i still install the multi touch and no refresh hack" (after rooting with tinynoot)
Not clear that you can, but if you look at the thread on the overclock kernel that's just been posted, the dev who posted that
also posted an APK that gives you much/most of hte benefit of the no refresh hack, in terms of screen speed.
I am not sure if that work also gives multitouch.
Here's the source code to a gridview that displays all installed apps. It's a very cut up version of the home sample that you find in the android sdk but it could help out if your trying to build an app launcher. If you look inside the startingpoint class you can see how I was gonna implement categories.

I just added a small update. I'm wondering if I could get some one to test it before I go on. I added a power button (it requires root) that should just power off the ouya. Also a button (the lock looking button) that should launch the discover apps section. Also the all apps button when clicked should only show the games that you have installed. You might think that it's strange but if everything works I'm gonna start on my new UI which will be alot different but has categories. I know this is kinda strange but I drew a print of how the ui will look when complete (it helps me put it together) if anyone wants to see I'll upload a pic.
Anyways new beta in first post.
I'll try to test this out for you today. It's nice seeing someone working on another launcher.
Alright so this is pretty much dead I was able to do some of the things I wanted but to be honest I would have to buy a new ouya and use the ouya odk to get the full size ouya icon. But what I'll do to help others is release the source code to a gridview that displays all installed apps. I think that will be the best thing to help others out.
