[Q] Which custom ROM gives us the best battery life? - Blade General

Hi all:
Newbie here . I have been looking at the rom development page for ZTE Blade (Orange San Francisco). I saw some extremely nice and cool roms (well done to all developers).
However I am wondering which rom gives me the best battery life?
I will be going on a trip soon and I want to be able to use sygic navigation (GPS enabled) which is quite battery consuming. I will need to use it for most time of the day I guess so battery life is essential.
Thanks in advance guys.
WUGI

I would suggest Fish and chips rom at a clock frequency of 604mhz and governor Conservative ........works for me better than any other rom.

Use sweedish snow or cm7, others are outdated, and dont ask which is the best, just try yourself^^

Cpu overclock dont eat lot of battery,(less than 5% for me at 748mhz) and conservative governor.... try interactive or smartass

Smartass Culture

hi guys..
i opened this thread in order to hopefully urge all developers, and kernel developers in particular, to consider adding the "smartass" governor to the list of cpu governors already available...
before anyone asks, here's what the governor developer said about it:
Technical Details-originally posted by erasmux :
smartass governor is based on the concept of the interactive governor. I have always agreed that in theory the way interactive works -by taking over the idle loop -is very attractive. I have never managed to tweak it so it would behave decently in real life. Smartass is a complete rewrite of the code plus more. I think its a success. Performance is on par with the "old" minmax and I think smartass is a bit more responsive. Battery life is hard to quantify precisely but it does spend much more time at the lower frequencies. Smartass will also cap the max frequency when sleeping to 352Mhz (or if your min frequency is higher than 352 -why?! -it will cap it to your min frequency). Lets take for example the 528/176 kernel, it will sleep at 352/176. No need for sleep profiles any more!
also here's more on other governors in addition to the smartass governor in this thread
so what is this about??
"almost" all kernels available for samsung phones are missing this governor, and as some might think "hey, we don't need it..", i suggest you try it first and then decide.. the only kernel that has smartass for (in this case) the vibrant is SuperDragonModz_v2.. and here's what one of the guys at the kernel's thread had to say about it:

Eco, omg. Wtf. This new governor ands native functions if the kernel are simply amazing.
Smartass is so fast and efficient! ! !
Way better than conservative or on demand, one is schitzy ands the other is too battery strenuous.
Great FF+$% job! ! !

this is about spreading the "smartass culture" among samsung rom/kernel developers..
what do you guys think?
Well, I will personally I feel smartass is a nice feature. It works for my kernel and my aim with it but it may not be the same for everyone. A properly configured conservative governor is also quick and good on battery and performance.

well, that coming from you (the first to add smartass to a non cm7 kernel for the vibrant) is not much for supporting our cause, and you didn't even vote
just kidding.. your work on adding smartass to the SuperDragonModz kernel is very much appreciated, and you know it..
and like you said, the least one could say about it is that its a "feature", and one that is still lacking..
as for me, i honestly think it does improve responsiveness, and still maintains the reasonable battery life offered by the conservative and ondemand governors..
More choices? HELL YEAHHHHHHHHH
If it improves battery life count me in.

If not better, it won't be any worse..
My phone's been up for almost 24 hours with moderate to heavy usage.. Still at 40%
Oh yeah, COUNT ME IN!
bump..

Thought, there isn't a single negative vote, wich its kinda amazing.

you're right, but why would there be?! would any of us reject more options and choices to control our phones?? i know i wouldn't
New bullet kernel for gingerbread has this now.

[Q] Suggested CPU Settings

Hey awesome people. I'm just curious to what I should set my CPU at for a daily driver. I used the automatic settings and it seems like it demolishes battery life. Can you guy give me some pointers?
Thanks

What ROM and kernel are you currently using?
I am on a CM9 ROM with hashcode's kernel.

if you are looking for everyday stable use i wouldnt recomend going above 1GHz and use the on demand profile. If you are really trying to get the best battery life though you can use something like setCPU to underclock your KF when the screen is off or the battery drops below a certain percentage. Just dont go too low because it seems to cause SOD issues at least for me with CM9. I currently have mine set at the stock 1008MHz high and 300MHz low and govenor: on demand with CM9 and get at least 12 hours of prety high use out of it.
thanks to both of you!

I don't have any experience with these apps so need help.I don't wanna overclock but wanna use the cpu speed to the full when Iam on my phone using it.
Thanks alot

you will need a custom kernal for that
but 2 good ones here

Running the cpu of the i9500 constantly on max freq will result in a very very hot phone with extreme battery drain ...
And there is no reason you should do that ... also if you want to mess with cpu frequencies, governors and stuff you need to install a custom kernel ... but since you won't know what you'll be doing i'd advise against this ...

TW kernel

Can someone recommend good kernel, for tw rom, good performance, also battery and with no sods with best stability, im new here and saw many kernels with oc 2.8 GHz and undervolting, best battery and etc, so tell me your oppinion

It is a hard question but the answer is pretty simple. What is good for my phone does not necessary good for yours. Need to try it yourself.
And for overclock kernel don't use overclock setting all the day.Higher clock means higher battery usage.

It depends on what u actually need. OC wouldn't be very stable for example. If u don't want a lot of customization and a stable kernel try lean kernel if you like more features try n3. They are actually all pretty good I tried every kernel and haven't had issues. At the end of the day u will have to look yourself what fits u and your phone best. If you need some info about kernels search for kernel explanation. Got help myself not 2 long ago

Reccomend me a kernel

Hey guys.
Looking for a good kernel for my G2(info in sig) ... Looking for a good overclocking kernel, What do you use?
Any recommendations?
Dorimanx allows you to overclock to 2.8 ghz but what are you gonna use that for? The phone gets extremely hot in very short time. What is it that 2.8 ghz can do and 2.26 ghz can't?
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Dorimanx is very good if you want to overclock it and keeping battery drain at good level.
Best for me is from bruce. Is absolutely amazing and very snappy...
Thanks guys, Is Dorimanx good for everyday usage too?(without overclocking)
iam using dorimanx 5.8 for 2 days now and its stable until now. no issues at all.
but there is one thing to know about this kernel. it offers alot of options via stweaks but its recommend to use the profile settings that are comming with the rom. they are most stable.
I've used Dorimanx for months now , but switched to Bruce2728 kernel ,and i stay with it.
Very fast , smooth , no lags and very good battery life.
I would recommend bruce's kernel that can be found here.
Fast and reliable, good battery life.

Can't beat dorimanx for jb or kitkat. He's a very hard working guy. He never stops improving things.
Simple Kernel v6 overclocks to 2.5GHz. Simple means only Interactive governor included. Works well. 1%/3hr standby. Testing Vellamo bruce2728's kernel rules in multithreading even without overclocking.
