Using the button remapper app (on ics) I want to make the "genius" button. Function like a long pressed home button.. is this possible?

Yet to see one...
I've been using alot of ICS roms, and have yet to see any that will allow button remapping. I think dev's are more worried about making it 100% stable and camera working 100%. Shouldn't be too long...
Using the app "button remapper" I changed genius. Button to act as a 2nd home key but could not see an option to make it act as a long press

For those who have the phone already. Is the genius button remappable to something else like search?
If not, is the genius button only activated when in the home screen. If you press the genius button in the browser or another application, does it bring up search?
I hope it is remapable. I use the search function a lot more than voice actions

Your local T-Mobile store should have a live demo for you to test it.

Pressing the genius button in an app only activates the genius software unfortunately. I haven't found a way to remap its function.

As of now, I am hopeful that someone makes a hack to remap the genius button to search.
What does a long press of the genius button do in home screen / other apps?
I hope someone finds a way to remap this as well, I will NEVER use voice commands, but I do often use the search key in Market and Maps.

It opens the genius software.

I really hope it can be remapped.. the genius button is useless for me, standard search is perfect :-(
I would like to think once custom roms start rolling out that will be addressed..

So there's no way to get to Google search other than through the widget? And to use Google voice actions you have to use the voice search app? That's too bad. I like the idea of having a choice.
Hi! Is it possible to bind the back button to end calls?
maybe in CyanogenMod ROMs, but I'm not sure...

Back button broken? Get Button Savior from the market.
I believe you can edit each buttons function, but the back button is pretty much essential, so you would be better using search instead.
Just edit the file at
/system/usr/keylayout/bravo-keypad.kl
I havent tried it but i imagine you just look for the word search and replace with endcall.

Just so you know, the blade doesn't have a search hardware button

If u r on cm7 then u can make use of power button to end calls.
Go to settings/accessibility and check the option there.
And as said above I believe u can edit the keyboard layout at /system/use/keylayout/

I find it not so bad thing to not have one button more. As you can still call Search function just simply holding Menu button down.
It works that way in every app and homescreen as you would have fourth button for Search function.
Press Home to get home, Long Press to have list of last used apps (for multitask)
Press Menu to get menu, Long Press to make a Search for app or homescreen
Press Back to get back, Long Press to kill front application (great on CM7)
Only thing what I wish I could do, is to bind menu button in home screen (now ADW Ex) to open Applist and not the menu of ADW.
im not sure if this has been asked, but just flashed over to CM7 and wanted to know how to quickly go back to the home screen, i've been using the back button but its not convenient at times.
Under settings\CyanogenMod Settings\tablet tweeks\choose soft button\ there is an option to add a home button to the soft keys
hit the power button for like three seconds and you get home. if you don't..then add it too the reboot menu or whatever. that is the lifesaver or homesaver

The method joemm mentioned is correct, but you can also use button saviour from the market, once loaded it puts a very small almost transparent toggle on your screen reguardless of the app your in and once pressed displays home, back, or menu. I love it but what joemm has stated works perfect. I'm just giving options.

Is there any way to remap the hard keys on this rom? I usually use the Genius button as my power button.

Genius remapped to power?could never find anything except that cant be done.so...
If youre able to could you share?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I use button remapper, it works on every other rom but not on creamed glacier.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Thanks.that was easy, but powering back on is still the good old faulty power button.
But useful anyways.

Now...
If your power button is remapped, and you (really me) still have power button viable ie two power buttons now, should the original power button be remapped?maybe that will allow the newly mapped button to turn it on??
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I read a little more, looks like its a no go for remapping on ics at this point.

I don't think it'll work, but if you're going to try it please let me know how it ends up.
Ahh that is probably the one thing keeping me from using Creamed Glacier. Oh well I'll just stick with MIUI lol.

Yeah.
That's as good as it gets.

So if you want to use Genius Button w/ Dragon Dictation and remap your power button to launch Genius manually without any apps. Then look in to"glacier-keypad.kl" in "\system\usr\keylayout\" and edit it by overwriting the current one and keeping same permission base structure "rw-r--r--". I don't know why you want to change it in first place, hence the dedicated Genius key?
Sent from my HTC Glacier
Because power button is busted.
Not trying to remap in order to use genius/dragon.
Trying to remap power button to genius which is possible while on, but can't use the remapped button to turn device on.
Problem is...
Can't reliably turn device on with power button,so another(working) button is needed.
Genius is remapped to power, but once off the "power" remains the power button.

In that case why not use trackpad? You can still keep all functions for home, menu, back, search. But have trackpad single click as select and long press as power button menu? Would you like that?
Sent from my HTC Glacier
I use it to turn off the screen and turn it on, because my power button is not as responsive as it used to be.

Try button remapper app, I guess the genius button is key 183 ...
Sent from my myTouch 4g
Yeah I tried changing the key manually to RECENT just taking a guess and it doesn't work. Will try the app.
Edit: tried with button remapper and launch key and there is no option
