Home button on CM7 - Kindle Fire General

im not sure if this has been asked, but just flashed over to CM7 and wanted to know how to quickly go back to the home screen, i've been using the back button but its not convenient at times.

Under settings\CyanogenMod Settings\tablet tweeks\choose soft button\ there is an option to add a home button to the soft keys

hit the power button for like three seconds and you get home. if you don't..then add it too the reboot menu or whatever. that is the lifesaver or homesaver

The method joemm mentioned is correct, but you can also use button saviour from the market, once loaded it puts a very small almost transparent toggle on your screen reguardless of the app your in and once pressed displays home, back, or menu. I love it but what joemm has stated works perfect. I'm just giving options.

Lock screen alternative

I hope I'm wording this right, but for my slide the only way to wake it up is to press the top power button. Even though I try to press the home or menu buttons it still remains in sleep mode. I would like to able to press menu or any of the face button keys to wake the phone up. Instead of having to go out of my way to hit the very top. Thanks in advance.

Are you using a CM based rom? If yes, go to Settings > Cyanogen Mod Settings > Input Settings and check off Trackball Wake.
If no... I think the only button aside from power that will wake it is the trackpad.
If u are stock then the trackpad should work. At least it did for me.

Back Button App for physical keyboard

There's a search button and menu button but no back button on the physical keyboard. Somebody should make a mini app that acts as a back button, so we could assign 1 of our 3 keys to the app and have that functionability.
I live in very cold weather and between my fingers getting so cold the buttons wont recognize my press or wearing gloves and having to remove them to hit one of the buttons, this could be a useful app for people (me).
Also a home button app could work as well for them.
What do ya think?

ics button remapper

Using the button remapper app (on ics) I want to make the "genius" button. Function like a long pressed home button.. is this possible?

Yet to see one...
I've been using alot of ICS roms, and have yet to see any that will allow button remapping. I think dev's are more worried about making it 100% stable and camera working 100%. Shouldn't be too long...
Using the app "button remapper" I changed genius. Button to act as a 2nd home key but could not see an option to make it act as a long press

you can disable s-voice when u double tap the home buttont hen use nova launcher and set it to open google search. i tried it with a display model but it didnt open up google now with the image header, just the search part of it. trying to figure out a way to do the normal way
Its possible to assign the home button to google now by double press instead of s-voice. You just have to enable this feature in sVoice settings. After that you have to disable the sVoice app in the application manager.

You do realise you can press and hold the menu button on the home screen to start Google now...?
If it didn't open up straight away and you just get the search bar, then press the menu button in the search screen and go to settings to turn on Google now. It'll open Google now the next time you press and hold the menu button from home.

Once I've set up Google Now on my phone, (as in turning it on in the search settings menu, opting in to the service, then selecting and setting up the 'cards'), when I long press the menu button, it does start up Google Now, in search mode with the cards all listed below.
OK, another option is to long press the Home button (with Google Now already set up, otherwise set it up as mentioned above) then press the square 'g' icon just above the Home button. This starts Google now in normal mode. If its not set up, then it starts in search mode only.
I get the OP's point.
Double pressing is faster long pressing.
It really is.
By the way, turning off the shortcut to Svoice (double pressing) makes the home button actions faster.

Ok, maybe im missing something here.
Ive setup Google now and disabled (and also uninstalled sVoice). Now when I long press home button, I get into recent apps and there if I touch G button on the screen I go to Google now.
Is it possible at all to start Google now just with a long press ? (Without a need to touch G button)

I didnt notice any difference. The phone still needs to distinguish a difference between a single press and a long press, right ? A single press gets you to a home screen.

The link above is for home2. You can use the app to assign google search (google now) to a double tap of the home button

Correct. Device still needs to distinguish between single/double tap & long press.
But omitting sVoice from the double tap resulted in single tap being faster. Long press action is more or less the same.
--------
I simulated it again just now.
I mapped s vice to double tap. Entered 4 apps and single pressed. Took about 2.5 seconds each time to go home.
Unmapped s voice. Took a second or a bit less.
I'll try to upload a video.
To reiterate, going to recent apa by long press takes the same time though.

[HOW TO] turn off htc one without pressing the power button

First, download this app :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwxLDEsImNvbS5rYXRlY2NhLnNjcmVlbm9mZmxvY2siXQ..
This app just do one thing: turn off the screen
Then there's two ways
Turn off htc one using nova launcher
1.buy nova launcher prime.
2.go to gesture settings.
3.set any gestures (I prefer double tap) to open app, and make it open this app.
4.done.if you double tap nova launcher home screen now, it will turn off.
Another way is to use Google now command:
1.set button command as long press home for menu and Swipe up for Google now
2.do Google now command by swiping up
3.complete action using the app 'screen off'
4.now swiping up the home screen will turn off the screen (but you have to find another way for Google now-I don't use so )
Hope this thread helps, with this and volume wake up, you won't have to press power button ever again

Tap to Unlock and Lock (stock HTC one)
HTC ONE.
No LED app
Time Display Constantly
When u tap home button, HTC one will unlock
Screen off and lock ,
Set HTC one gesture as Swipe up for Google now and Set Screen off as default app
Now when u swipe up from home button it will lock !
If you're rooted then try custom roms and kernels. I use elementalx kernel and it has power on options such as swiping from back to home button, double tapping screen, volume on, and htc button hold on.
