We apologize to all those who were waiting for today's update to Android ICS Iconia Tab A501, but there were some technical problems we are trying to solve. Unfortunately we are not yet able to tell you when it's all ok, but as soon as we have definite information we will notify you.
I really think I won't buy an acer product again...

Wouldn't surprise me if the "technical problems" were...... 3g dies on occassion, and has SOD.:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
I think I could live without 3g module, using wifi tethering with the smartphone... Does anybody know if it's possible to put standard A500 ICS rom on A501?

Yes, you can.
However, along with the "no 3g" issue, your GPS will probably not function.
Although the 500 and 501 share virtually the same hardware, they use a different GPS receiver. So your GPS will probably not work.

I to will never buy an Acer product again..
So that's a wrap on the official Acer ICS updated for the A501?
According to this http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1934634 official ICS will finally start to roll out from August 2nd (in Australia).

After I clicked the get root, it stops in pop-up window.
To clarify, it is not non-responsible, but just cannot go further.

Did you mean A500, if not where did you get an A501?
Try this:
Search the forum for 'IconiaRoot 1.2'
Works fine on HC 3.1 and no orientation BS to worry about. Also much faster and does include UNroot option.
Thanks a lot, I'll try it and give you the feedback.
No, it's A501.
I got it in my hand since the last friday.
It's not a unreleased product anymore.
I bought 3 A501.
Cheers
Sry but there is no 501....just A500.
You have three A500 units.

There is an A501 - it has a 3G radio. It was due out in Europe by the end of July. I
guess they kept thier promise. No A501 for the US yet, though

Wrong. Maybe you should look at Acer's product portfolio, hmm?
Thanks a lot!!!
It works perfectly!!!! hahahha
But my a501 cannot found the ad hoc hotspot.
I did the modification exactly following the instruction, but why it still doesn't show up the ad hoc hotspot???
Have any idea?
Cheers
Check youn permissions on the ad-hoc file or the program on the phone you are tethering to.u use wireless tether switched from barnacle. As it seems faster.but cost ten bucks
Guys check the web the 501 is available but I think limited areas

Thank you. At least YOUR post was helpful unlike FATmans there. I will try my other contact and get some information on it.
1. Did you make sure USB Debugging is turned on?
2. Did you make sure Loading from Unknown Sources is turned on?
3. Make sure when you run Gingerbreak, the tablet is in Portrait mode...Gingerbreak will crash if it is run in Landscape mode.
I had that issue last night rooting my replacement A500. I realized I forgot to turn on USB Debugging. If that's the case, turn on USB Debugging and restart the tablet, then run GingerBreak again.

Acer "launched" the A500, A501, A100 and A101 tablets all at the same time, at the various electronics shows around the world. All the news sites online carried news of all 4 models, and their website lists them as well, even in the support section (and the A100 series isn't even available yet).
There's no way an Acer employee wouldn't have known about it if they had anything at all to do with the mobile devices division.
hi there,
if you are still using stock rom on your a501, just dont flash any custom rom from dev section... u will lose 3g functions
but then i think u can help the dev by giving the dumping of your stock rom, maybe to help we a500 users get easier and better 3g
Yes I am sure I did what exactly they told on their articles.
Now I solved that problem with ICONIA Root,so Gingerbreak is crap...

Y'know.. It's REALLY impolite to call something which some guys worked really hard on, did everything they could to help a bunch of freeloaders set their tablets free and didn't ask for a DIME in recompense, a piece of crap.
How about you try to do better, hmm? And when you do (ha!), I'll call it a piece of crap and see how you like it.

Looks like it's only the wifi model... otherwise Verizon would have announced something?
some people say that it gives SD support for Wi-Fi xooms, not verizon xooms. I hope its not true, but if it is, this has to be some major pile of bull**t.

nothing for me either.
I would not worry about it so much. We are all going to have to wait for the devs to work their magics regardless. There will always be an offline method of installation via CWM as usual that is already rooted and has all of that other goodness.
Once the devs take over and get ahold of the OTA zip files, we will see updated versions of their ROMs in no time. They will have the 3.2 features in it with all of their own other custom features/contents. I say... wait for Team Tiamat, they will do their thing. You know it'll be them to do it once again, as almost always. After that, say hello to other iterations of custom 3.2 ROMs, and then updated kernels from all teams that will work on the new 3.2 update. That's my opinion, but I believe it a makes a very good point.
I've got a Wifi Xoom and I got the update too. I tried to restart to install, and got the "exclamation point in a triangle" on boot. I'm rooted with the Tiamat Kernel, so that's probably why it errored out.

Hey has anyone gotten the 3.2 OTA in the USA yet? I'm in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA (outside of LA); but I bought the device in Portland, OR..Idk if that makes any difference though.
3.2 Update
I got the OTA update to 3.2 here in the USA yesterday. New York
Model A500
Version 3.2
Kernel Version 2.6.36.3+
Build Number Acer_A500_7.0006.01_Com_Gen1
I'm in the CA central coast & no update
Still waiting here in eastern MA
Negative in Rhode Island.
I'm not sure I want it based on some of the negative 3.2 threads

Got it here in MA. If you have rooted your device and haven't done the OTA, I suggest you wait even if it does come available to you. There is no way to root 3.2 and you will lose CWM if installed. So once you get it youre stuck with 3.2/no root till someone figures it out.

Oh, that's why? What's the difference between Gen 1 and Gen 2? I thought there's only one hardware, I think I saw the hardware info somewhere when I checked it on the tab, and it said rev. 1.
I'm in Socal, and so far nothing, I even went into the settings and manually checked a lot times. But as I said in another post, I doubt the location is what Acer used to decide which to upgrade first. It will be very easy to decide which country your device is in now from your IP, but other than that, it'll be hard to see where you are in the country. And to actually get a GPS location for this upgrade purpose is just an over kill, waste of their time to even develop anything like that and put in the software. If Acer needs to devide the whole population into groups to avoid congesting, there are a lot other ways to do that.
Not sure why it takes three months to get the UK update to 3.2 after the US, but it finally arrived on my MZ604 today... perhaps it's translating from American to English

With films now in the market and a slightly prettier Google+ update, tonight's been pretty good
The keyboard lag seems better I've noticed while typing this out
Has anyone on a MZ601 received the 3.2 update?
I wonder if this will fix the Tiamat 2.2.2 market issue of missing apps?
What build is this?
Can somebody get the link or the zip file for the update please?
I am on a US 3.2 but might have to switch back for this.
There's one good thing about this update, quickoffice HD
considered wiping my xoom and setting it back to the UK 3.2 image - but then thought if i stick it out on the US 3.2 image then i'll probably get ICS 3 months quicker than the UK...

Is this update 66.0.23.en.EU that we're talking about here?
I've got the option to update to this but my MZ604 is rooted using the any update/any version method so dunno if its wise to update or not.
Can anyone clarify if I can apply this update and still be rooted or will it break stuff?
Cheers.
Why on earth do the 3G's (who paid more for their devices too!) get the updates after the standard Xooms? It's a ridiculous situation - it's not as if Moto don't know the difference between the two and can't create the update for both at the same time! GRRRR
Wen will 3g get it? I might just sell up and get xoom two next month

Honestly? Xoom = fail
I don't get upgrades on time and most of uk banks charge for all market purchases (£1.25 on top for overseas transactions) - not like there is anything interesting to look for anyway (most of apps look and operate like s..t).
I wanted to buy something else then Apple and I ended up with clunky, laggy, buggy, overpriced (£570) prototype of a tablet. Now value dropped 50% and all truth came out - it's just ipad-wannabe.
(also I barely managed to write down this rant because of stupid keyboard lag...).
ICS? I'm tired of waiting. Google can't even release one simple upgrade on time... I'll wait for iPad 3 instead and I promise you that - I will have it before ICS upgrade. At least Apple is always on time with their stuff.
I know this is for the UK 3.2 but it's looking good for AUS - I really hope this resolves the Tiamat market issue!
Just in from Motorola Australia facebook page

I wouldn't be in a rush for 3.2 if I were you - I recieved it over the weekend and lost the ability to write to the SDCard again! It was there in 3.1, gone in 3.2 - SDCard is back to read-only, unless you connect via a PC.
Sure, you get an Office app, and some printing utility etc, but going back to read-only SD cards is a major backward step for me!

Maybe they don't need any more, since the leaked firm from chinese. Now they know what the problems are, and maybe they fixed whats wrong. Since most of Xoom owners jumped to EOS firm, who's gonna need the official. That was a joke, ofcourse we need the official firm

yeah they should speed up the update release. It's quite disappointing since I heard about the Prime ICS release which is said to arrive before the Xoom? oO
The Xoom is a Google experience device like all the Nexus phones. Google is the one that controls the updates. Verizon may hold up the process a bit for the 3G/4g versions, but it is essentially a Google controlled device. One has to wonder what is taking so long, but after hearing about the Transformer Prime update woes I don't mind the little extra wait, unless its another 6 month wait like it was to get the LTE upgrade.
