Any File Manager that can mount /system partition as read and write (i.e. ES File Explorer) will do. Don't forget remounting it back to ro.
Furthermore, as a good practice follow the guidelines below to avoid unpleasant surprises.
1. First try to freeze the app in question and restart the phone
2. Check the major functionality of the phone to ensure nothing was effected
3. Defrost, do not uninstall under any circumstances, the app again and in your choice of file explorer navigate to /system/app folder
4. Carefully look at the above mentioned folder to see if you spot the main .apk along similar file with service, provider, or plugin suffixes
5. Now simply select the files and copy, not delete or cut, and copy them to your SDCard. Always backup anything is about to be removed from /system/app
6. Now delete the same files that you copied before
7. Next we need to wipe the dalvik cache folder and wipe the cache from android recovery system. Yes, all these steps are necessary as a good practice of removing a system app. Navigate to /data/dalvik-cache folder and delete all files by selecting all files first and then delete. It never harms to wipe this folder and don't worry if your phone starts force closing constantly, just pull your battery out and before turning it on follow the next step.
8. Make sure the phone is shut down first. While holding down the volume down key turn the phone on and keep pressing the turn-on button as well until a message is shown on screen. I think the message says Fast Boot Menu or something.
9. Toggle through the menu by volume down key only until you get to Android Recovery System. If you passed the menu option keep press the volume down, do not press the up key as that one is designated for selection key on the screen you are looking at.
10. Once Android Recovery System is being shown press the Volume Up key to select the menu option.
11. Wait until the Android image is shown on the screen. Then press both vol up and down at same time. With Atrix this is very easy as it has very nice layout to it
12. You would be presented by a new menu now. Select the last menu option, Wipe Cache, and press the turn-on switch
13. After the cache is wiped the restart system menu option would be selected by default, press the turn-on button again to restart the phone. Congratulation! the arabware is removed now.
The advantage of following the above steps is that, should you regret and want to reinstall a previously removed system app then all previous settings would be remained intact. Of course as long as you don't do a complete ROM flash later. You can also use the same method as above to remove any unwanted system apps. I would open a new thread soon to describe how I optimised my Atrix on Stock ROM.
Good Luck
Hey guys. So I managed to root my Kindle Fire version 7.2.3. I Installed the Android Market and upgraded to Google Play Store. I started downloading apps, like Firefox and Opera, games, etc. Now, when I go to the apps menu on my Kindle, I only see the apps downloaded from the Amazon appstore... Opera, Firefox and the other games are nowhere to be seen... If I drag down the settings, I can see in my notifications that the apps were installed, and I can launch them from there, but that's it.. I can also launch them from ES FIle Explorer, but that's annoying... How can I make it so that all the content downloaded from the gplay store appears in the app section of my kindle?
Install a different launcher like Apex, Go Launcher, Nova etc. It will then look and feel like a normal android device, and you will see all your apps.

Thanks for replying. Sorry but I'm a noob with this... I downloaded Go Launcher from the gplay store and I can't see it or launch it because of the problem I mentioned above... If I get to launch it what do I do with it?
No problem dude. Download the .apk file (google it) for Go Launcher and put in the system/app folder. If it's a .zip, rename it to .apk then reboot your Kindle and it will load upon reboot. Try it out and see what happens. Good luck.

I download the apk and put it in the system/apps folder yet I can't see it in my kindle... I don't even know what I have to do with go launcher ex.. can you be more specific? thanks
Couple things to try here. If Go Launcher is installed, you should press the home button and a dialog box should pop up asking you which launcher you want to use. Select Go Launcher. If that doesn't work, download an app from the market called Home Switcher that allows you to select which launcher you want to use. If you don't see Go Launcher in there, then it's not installed. Keep trying, you will get it.

Take the attached files, download them to your desktop.
1) Plug your Kindle into USB
2) Using Windows Explorer, move GO_Launcher_HD.apk and GO_Launcher_EX_3_19_1.apk to /Kindle/Download
2) Now go to your Kindle. Open ES File Explorer go to Settings. In Settings > Other Settings is Root Settings. Select Root Settings, check all options.
3) Be sure to "Allow" Root
4) Now using ES File Explorer move /sdcard/GO_Launcher_HD.apk to /system/app/GO_Launcher_HD.apk and move /sdcard/GO_Launcher_EX_3_19_1.apk to /system/app/GO_Launcher_EX_3_19_1.apk - Install both apk's
5) Change the permissions (by long pressing each apk) on GO_Launcher_EX_3_19_1.apk and GO_Launcher_EX_3_19_1.apk to User: Read Write Group: Read Others: Read
6) Reboot the Kindle. When it reboots you should see "Kindle is upgrading", then you will be given the option to select a Launcher: Home (Stock Kindle Launcher), Go Launcher EX, or Go Launcher HD
Try them both, see which one you like, then when you are ready, click on the "Home" button to make one of them your new "Default" launcher.

No problem, go into the Apps container where all the apps are stored, scroll through then until you see "Home". Click on "Home" (Not the picture of the house) and wala, you are back to the old Kindle menu allowing you to access all your old /new goodies.
When you are done, click on the picture of the house and you can get back to Go Launcher.

yokone1,
We have seen this a number of times on both Go Launcher and ADW Launcher. This is a sure fix.
Download the attached file named AppWidgetPicker-1.2.3.apk copy it to /system/app then change
the permissions to Owner: Read Write, Group: Read, Others: Read. Do Not install the apk, just
move it and change the permissions. Next reboot, wait for the Kindle to upgrade and test Widgets.
Let me know if this solves your issue.
This worked perfectly, thank you so much! =)

Heather_A,
The folder /system/app is a secured folder, you need Root access to mount the folder:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069117
If you have Root, you need to use either ES File Explorer or Root Explorer in Root Mode.
In ES File Explorer, you need to go into the Settings Menu, next the Root Settings Menu.
Click on all the options in Root Settings. Be sure to Allow the Pop up Superuser request.
Once you have Root, then look at the VERY TOP Left of ES File Explorer where it says Local.
Look to the Right of Local, it probably says /sdcard/Download. If this is the case, you need
to click on the Up twice until you see Local /. You are now at Root, from here you will click
on /system - Local now shows /system, next click on app, now you are at /system/app.
Does this help? Since you are working with the /system/app folder, it is critical to backup
the Kindle. Here is software that automates the Backup Process: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888

Hey guys,
i did not root my kindle fire. I can use the ADW Launcher, but i cant use widgets. Nothing pops up after i press the widget button. So i installed the AppWidgetPicker. Now i can choose the icon and after that i can see all the widgets. Perfect i thought!
But when i try to choose a widget it tells me "widgetPicker closed" and nothing happens.
Is there anyone who can help me with this problem?:victory:

Another fabulously useful nugget of info on XDA-developers. Thanks so much. It is things like this that make that patronising and unfunny XDA sign-up video almost worth watching!
I'm having what sounds like the same problem on JB 4.1.1
Whe version of Android is on the Kindle Fire?
I have been running the v1.3.3.8 of ADW EX on Gingerbread (Atrix 4g) with flawless operation.
On my Jellybean v4.1.1 (Atrix HD), widgets are crazy. Static icons stay put, widgits disappear
and reappear all over the place.
Is the above fix likely to work for me on JB?
Thx

OK, I'm not trying to start anything or be a jerk. That is definitely not my intention. However, because Beautiful Widgets is a paid app/widget is it right to post it here? I'm just curious whether this is a violation of some sort. If the makers of the app/widget have given permission I'll shut my mouth and move on. I understand that the version posted is an older version but in all of my searching, even older version of BW were not free.
Again, I'm just asking a question. I'm not trying to start anything.
Thanks,

This was distributed to us through Leflou at Levelup Studio, she stated "since this is an unsupported version, it is OK to

I know this has been a long time but last night the solution came to us!:good: If you have a Kindle Fire 2 or HD with Root permissions please follow these steps to get the latest version of Beautiful Widgets to work on the Kindle Fire HD Series or Kindle Fire 2:
Step 1: Install a Beautiful Widgets license by using Google Play Store - Search for Beautiful Widgets and select Beautiful Widgets from Levelup Studio (pay attention to the logo, we will use this in the next step) select Install, then Accept & download - wait for the package to install
Step 2: Using either ES File Explorer or Root Explorer, navigate to /data/app folder, find the icon that matches the above install. The icon will be named something like: com.levelup.beautifulwidgets or com.levelup.beautifulwidgets.apk - please long press on the icon named com.levelup.beautifulwidgets.apk (may have a slightly different name on your kindle) select Move. Next Move com.levelup.beautifulwidgets.apk to /system/app
Step 3: Next find com.levelup.beautifulwidgets.apk in system/app folder. Long press on com.levelup.beautifulwidgets.apk and select Permissions on Root Explorer or Properties on ES File Explorer. Change the Permissions to User: Read Write Group: Read and Others: Read
Step 4: Reboot the Kindle

I think it would be easier to just root and then download the pro version of titanium and freeze the Amazon special offers app. You can find the titanium backup app on 4shared.
confirm, this works great for me
i have done this with adb shell
simply 3 steps
Code:
adb shell

# chmod 000 /data/securedStorageLocation/dtcp/adunits
# reboot

This works great. It removed the ads. However, the lock screen wallpapers never rotate. I am stuck with the manilla paper book looking wallpaper, which is hideous. Every once in a while on a reboot it will cycle, but as soon as it goes to sleep and comes back, it's back to the manilla book.
Is there any way to set my own wallpaper, or to fix it so that it rotates the lockscreen wallpaper correctly?

This works great. It removed the ads. However, the lock screen wallpapers never rotate. I am stuck with the manilla paper book looking wallpaper, which is hideous. Every once in a while on a reboot it will cycle, but as soon as it goes to sleep and comes back, it's back to the manilla book.
Is there any way to set my own wallpaper, or to fix it so that it rotates the lockscreen wallpaper correctly?

I have the same problem, always got the same wallpaper, it's getting kinda boring :3
I haven't found a solution for this yet since I'm not sure what is causing it :/
Greetings!

I have found somewhat of a solution. Using KFHD sEttings to disable the stock Amazon lock screen. Then I downloaded Go locker and am using that as my lock screen. Customized go locker a bit and now have a nice unlock screen with the same background as my home screen, where I use ADS launcher.
Does the xsettings fix the manilla papers wallpaper issue?

Just an update, this worked with no side effects for me w/ a new HDX 7. OS 4.5.2, rooted. Ads are now gone & my lockscreen still rotates & I get different nifty images each time. No plain manilla thingie.
