Looks like this "new" ODIN works with the OG Epic...link for DL is in above thread...
Lol I still use 1.6 if it ain't broke don't fix it
I just tried it and it works but its a bit finicky you have to plug the phone in before you start it up and the first time I used it, I test flashed fc09 modem it soft bricked it until I did it again with v1.61 but I tried a second time on 3.04 and it worked

question are you using original cable? if so this could be the cause of your first soft brick.
thanks op for the update

Nope been using a blackberry cable since day one. I guess windows was finicky because I had to log off then log back on so that 1.61 and 3.04 to work.

And that is definitely not newer. It's from 2009, for much older phones (the original Samsung Galaxy for that matter), and VERY likely to be a brickmaker on current devices.

......I see, I see.......xboxfanj's link opens to a broader site that features a gallery of ODIN releases, the "ODIN Museum" if you will, so 3.89 happens to be the featured bootloader w/ the history of ODIN (+ accompanying links) on left column of web page on that site........ok, that settles that mystery.
Thanks for the clarification.
Said it before + will say it again: ODIN's awesome.

Yeah I assumed that Odin 3.89 was newer since it is a larger number and was posted later, but I was wrong. 3.04 is the newest version we have access to.

Sorry man, I'm looking for the original install files for 1.5.1 myself. I installed it on one computer then had to dl it again to install another. By then it was 1.5.3. If I can find the 1.5.1 install file, I'll upload - I think I might have it on my work computer, so it will have to wait until Monday.

Not necessary, keep it MD5., it is an acceptable file type for Odin
I noticed on this build. In the menu where you hold down the power button the option to turn data on/off is missing. You can still power off, reset, airplane mode. The data option is missing. I kind of miss it. I found an app that does it with the pressing of an icon, but its just one more icon to clutter up the desktop.

From the lettering scheme (LD3) this looks to be the first release version of ICS pushed by Samsung.
Every other ICS build todate has been an LPx where the P denotes a prerelease. LD3 is a proper build from April 2012.

I have found the Samsung official ICS releases to be terrible and would stick to CM9. Hopefully Samsung will skip 4.0.4 and go straight to 4.0.5.

I just turned on my phone a few minutes ago and saw the update.
Honestly, I wanted to check here on the XDA forum first to see who installed the UPDATE for the phone, because frankly, after the recent Lollipop UPDATE that Google sent out to their Nexus line of devices, and the HUGE DRAMA with system BUGS, I'm leaning toward conservative -- even though I know this isn't a Lollipop O/S update.
UPDATE: I found the link on T-Mobile's website, and they say, "This update provides Chinese language support"
https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-18152
Went ahead and allowed the update to be applied but because I have already rooted it the update wouldn't take.
