Hey there!
The defy+ comes with bl7 so you've got to root it with this method(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595013&page=5)
1. Shut down the phone>Press the button Volume Down and keep it pressed>Press the buton Power On>A Yelow Triangle with an Android will appear>Pres both Volume buttons>A menu will appears>Navigate up/down with the Volume buttons and Accept with Power buttons> sellect Whipe Data and Factory Reset and then Whipe cache>Select Reboot from menu and press imediately the Volume UP buton>the phone will enter in Bootloader Mode (is ready for flash process)>Connect it to PC
2. The Flashing proces is done on PC with the phone connected. You must install RDS Lite and Motorola USB Drivers (after installing drivers restart the PC.
Run installed RDS Lite as Administrator (if you use Windows Vista or 7). Click on [ … ] Button and select your .SBF file and click Open.
Boot your phone into Bootloader Mode (as I said at point 1.).
Now connect your Defy to your PC (if is not already connected)
The START button on RSD Lite should be available now, click and wait.
Don't disconnect until RDS Lite will show PASS.
Now your defy plus is rooted.
Now you have to install 2ndint. It gives you recovery menu.
Now you can go to recovery and flash any rom you want as per your wish.

i've did used this method a bilion of times , and evrey time after i flash the new rom phone gets bricked or into bootloop :\

When installing MS2Ginger, go to Backup and restore -> Advanced restore -> /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/MS2Ginger and restor system only. Then restore devtree and recovery. Don't restore boot as this is the kernel, which is for lower BL version, therefore causing a bootloop or a soft brick. I haven't flashed a BL7 Defy+ with MS2Ginger and am not 100% sure it will work, but theoretically, if anything would work, it would be this.

it works..

[Q] Defy stick on boot logo

hello fellows, tried to flash ms2ginger3.0 and the device got stuck on boot logo, boot menu wont load, and stock recovery (vol down + power button) doesn't work either. Tried also to attend to the operator, but they won't fix an none stock version.
any suggestions?
use rsd lite and flash a new sbf to it.
In case you don't know how to flash a new sbf with RSD Lite, here's a quick tutorial:
1) Install the Motorola drivers and RSD Lite on your computer. See this guide for installing Moto drivers and RSD Lite:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853674
2) Download the sbf file that you want to flash, and save it to your PC. Many sbf files can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537 WARNING: If you flash a full stock SBF file, in most cases you will lose the ability to downgrade to earlier firmware versions. NEVER flash a full stock SBF file with a higher Android version than 2.2 (Froyo). Any stock firmware with Android version 2.3 or higher is made for the DEFY+, which has different camera hardware than the DEFY. If you flash the stock DEFY+ firmware, your camera will be broken and you won’t be able to downgrade back to Froyo again.
3) Make sure the phone battery is fully charged. Power off your phone, then hold in the volume+ button and the power button at the same time. After about 5 seconds, release the buttons. The bootloader should display – it will show the version and a battery check. (If that doesn’t work, pull the battery, then put it back in while holding the volume+ and power buttons.)
4) Start RSD Lite on your computer, then connect the phone with a USB cable. In RSD Lite, the Status column should say “Connected…”. Click on that, and some information about your phone should show up under Device Properties. Next, click the “…” button and browse to select the SBF file that you want to install. After opening it, information about the file should show up under File Properties. Then click “Start” and wait for the flashing process to complete. Wait until the phone has fully rebooted and RSD Lite says “Pass” before closing RSD Lite and disconnecting the USB cable. As an extra precaution, I usually power off the phone before disconnecting the cable.
Good luck!
Thank you guys, just reallized the combination to stock recovery is (power botton + volup) now sbf Froyo.

Do you get the "no such file found" error as soon as you select a recovery option, or does the error happen later?
If all else fails, just flash a new sbf using RSD Lite. (See my previous post, above.) If you're planning to install CM7 again, I recommend using the 3.4.2-179-2 CEE DEBLUR sbf. Then follow this guide to install CM7 with working google apps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065798

[Q] Defy+ bricked to bootloops

While trying cm9 red lens battery fix my phone just stucked on the bootloader. So i flashed the sbf file for my region and now my defy+ is stucked in bootloops and i tried to flash sbf 3 to 4 times. But still no result. Guys help me please cause this is my first phone....... Thanx in advance
You're not flashing a SBF with lower BL version than you are already on.. Right??
PS: It isn't bricked. Its said to be bricked when it is a brick.
dont worry its easy to restore..
after flashing sbf, go to recovery (vol down+power)..when u get android with "!" logo press both volume up n down buttons together (better press in middle)..
in stock recovery clear data, cache & reboot..
hope thus helps..happened to me too..2 months back..

And if that doesn't work, you could always flash a stock SBF via RSD Lite, from the stock recovery (vol up + power)...
Questions go in the Q&A section
it happened to me too, don't be afraid, just calm down and "doesn't spend unnecessary energy from the battery"
with the wipes all will be alright

[Q] 2ndboot no internal storage Defy Green Lense

I have a problem with Defy Green lense after installing 2ndboot Quarx. It seems that Android isn't mounting internal memory correctly
I can't install any app and after I restart phone, I get wizard to setup my phone like I just installed new ROM. From search on forum I found that people had problems with internal storage, but they always had some storage left (I have 0mb).
The things I have tried to do:
Installing fix for 11.10 and v2
Revert to old ROM version (non 2ndboot)
Factory reset from Settings
Delete data, cache and dalvik from Custom Recovery
Delete data/cache from Stock Recovery
Install another ROM (ParanoidAndroid)
Remount /system and /sdcard from Custom recovery
When I try to see log in custom recovery, I get this (log.jpg)
Can anybody tell my how to fix it?
Edit: How to fix internal memory
Motorola Defy
RSD Lite (download here: http://goo.gl/KRSRp
SBF (i reccomend 2.2 CEE Froyo) (download here: http://goo.gl/Jhz84) (for other SBFs use this link: http://goo.gl/dYQTl )
USB Cable
Charged battery (at least 50%)
Motorola USB Drivers (download here: http://goo.gl/bWg1M )
Download and install USB Drivers
Download and install RSD Lite
Turn off your phone
Go into bootloader by pressing Power button and Vol+ button
Connect your phone to your PC via USB cable
Make sure everything is OK
Locate downloaded SBF. In popup dialog press Uncompress and start flashing
If you get " Please manually power up this phone " in RSD Lite pull battery out > put your battery back > reboot into stock recovery by holding Power button and Vol- button > Choose Wipe data/cache > Choose Reboot system now

Revert to stock ROM

Hey guys,
is it possible to revert my phone back to stock?
I am running CM10 at the moment and would like to send my phone into repair (because of my speaker).
Maybe there is no problem with a custom ROM but I would like to be sure they don't blame a ROM for a hardware fault.
Maybe some of you have a bit of expierence with Motorola service or with the mentioned problem above.
Thanks for any help!

Just flash the SBF via RSDLite...
You need to boot into the bootloader - see instructions i my post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33199328&postcount=1374
Then just do wipe data via stock recovery (boot with X pressed and then press vol up + down to see the recovery menu)
.. I've sent my Moto phone to repair with custom ROM (because my power button was broken, so I was not able to reflash it) and they have repaired it without any problem (thankfully) - but I definitely recommend you to do a nand backup and revert to stock with the instructions above

Wow that is easier than I thought, thanks!
If I flash the SBF, does that erase the custom bootloader/root etc. too?
I will give it a try in 2 weeks and see what the Motorola support ppl say.

you don't have a custom bootloader , but yes it will flash a stock version without Bootmenu or root.
Okay, then I meant Bootmenu, not Loader
Thanks again for the info, I will post an update if I succeed!
Just install a GB image from bootmenu and you will be ok. But the service will not mess with your software.

Thanks Anonymous_! Everything works fine now
Here is my procedure:
Programs/Files you need:
RSD Lite
SBF-File (make sure it's the right Kernel - Froyo/Gingerbread)
Motorola USB-Drivers (not sure if necessary for RSD-Lite)
Step-by-Step:
Install the USB-Drivers
Install RSD-Lite
Boot your phone into bootloader
remove battery
connect USB-Cable (PC to phone)
press and hold the buttons: camera + vol. down + power
put battery in while still holding these three buttons
Start RSD-Lite (with admin privileges)
Choose your SBF-File (with the "..." button)
Press Start
Then just "wipe data" via stock recovery
press and hold "x" on the hardware keyboard
boot your phone
press volume up AND down when you see the android robot (with the attention sign)
[*]Choose "wipe data" with the volume buttons
[*]Confirm with the power button, then confirm you choice again
[*]Then reboot from the recovery menu
Again my thanks goes to Anonymous_ for his instructions!
I was just going to ask the same question as the OP.
Thank you very much for the procedure explanation. Now I'm a bit more confident about upgrading to CM10
EDIT: What if when I try to boot via stock recovery, the Android robot appears but pressing Volume Up + Down don't do anything?
Thanks dudes, I bought a 2nd hand Milestone 2 with stock 2.2. I could not update to Android 2.3 with the Motorola official updater, so I followed this short tutorial. Now I have stock Android 2.3, Niceeee !! Now rooting the phone and removing the bloatware crap..
I was looking for that, thanks

Help with the bricked green lens defy

This is the 2nd time I've bricked my defy. The first time I flashed a full sbf, which I don't remember which now and the phone was fixed.
But this time I can't fix it by flashing sbf. The phone came with Orange France Froyo. If I remember right, the first time I fixed it by flashing the stock sbf, however I'm not sure.
So when my phone couldn't boot at all I flashed it again "Orange France" for defy:
"JRDNEM_U3_3.4.2_164-005_OR_SIGN_SIGNED_USAJRDNEMARAB1B8ORAFR03A.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNFRYOORAFR_P023_A010_M004_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf.gz"
But when RSD Lite tells me to "manually reboot the phone", I unplug it and Power button+volumn down, after the red M appears, it shows an android bot with an exclamation mark in a triangle.
So I think maybe last time I have flashed a gingerbread sbf. I then downloaded a full sbf for defy+:
"DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-125_BLUR_SIGN_SIGNED_USADEFYEMARAB1B8RTGB005.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNGIBRRTGB_P022_A022_M002_HWp3_WIG148094_Service1FF"
It's still the same result: "an android bot with an exclamation mark in a triangle"
I need serious help, thanks. There is still hope right, as my phone still can show stuff....:crying:

Thank you. This is embarrassing! The minute I clicked submit this post I pressed some buttons in desperation on my phone then I saw the lovely "blue letters", the recovery menu !! I then cleaned all data and cache and my phone can boot again ! I am going to root it and flash roms !!
Thank you anyway !
p.s. At this moment I found with the full sbf I flashed the camera doesn't work. Hoepfully when I get it rooted and flash CM10.1 everything works normally again.

Power + volume down is required to go to stock recovery:laugh:.Press only power button. To access stock recovery from the exclamation mark + triangle press volume up + volume down.
But i'm still wondering as to why you flashed Defy+ SBF. Now you can't downgrade and the camera won't work. You have to use 2ndboot ROMS like CM9 (EPSYLON), CM10.x and MS2Ginger.

I did that only as I thought my sbf flashed failed because my previous sbf flash was to a higher version. In fact I could have press some button to see the recovery menu.
Thank you for the info! I didn't know the "camera doesn't work" scenario till you tell me! Nvm, I normally use CM10.
When I have rooted my phone successfully, I find I can't use stock recovery to flash a CM10, which now I see makes sense...
But how do I install CWM recovery plz? I download it on sdcard and then ...? There's only one option "apply update from sdcard", do I flash the downloaed CWM recovery with that option?
I just tried install TWRP by using stock recovery "update from sdcard", it shows the same error as I flash a CM 10 ROM:
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
You can´t flash CMx through stock recovery, you need 2nd init app (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=589645&d=1304799260) after installing this and folowing steps in app reboot and wait for blue led turns on and press volume down and go into custom recovery, WIPE, and install your CMx adn reboot =)
SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH

Search for and install 2ndinit. Install the apk normally, open it. Press the install 2ndinit bootmenu button and accept the su permission. Then reboot and press volume down when blue led appears.
