Looking at the specs
same cpu as the AT&T One X or HTC One S (Snapdragon S4)
lucky it doesn't have a ****ty qHD PenTile Amoled (like the Droid 4) but an IPS.
Now let's hope, if this will ever be released, LG will also release it for the European market.
Will this be the replacement for the Desire Z/G2?
What do you guys think?
I hope so..
anyway I'd like to see the HTC One Z :'(
I hope not, and personally doubt it.
HTC creation aside, even a "successor" to the G2 would carry some of the same stylings. Some sort of trackball, a bottom sloped (in or out). Slight angular design, not something that looks like it was copied off Motorola (and their design is bad enough). Not to mention that the first two Gs (in the US) were brought out on Tmobile, not Sprint.
Maybe I'm wrong (I hope not), but I don't see how this could be related to the G2 other than it has a physical keyboard. Looks like it would be a Shift replacement.
I'm not looking at the looks or brand of the next best qwerty Android phone, i do look at the specs, and the specs of this device are pretty good.
The specs of the Droid 4 aren't, so i have never seen it as something that is better then the G2/Desire Z and thus being a 'successor'.
And looking at the qwerty phones that are out there in Europe, if i'm not mistaken the SE X10 Mini pro is the fastest qwerty android out here but it's to small to even be in the same league as the Desire Z. Next best thing (spec wise) is the Desire Z.
So not much choice here.
Ok. I get you now. Successor implies it is inheriting the title so that threw me.
That being the case, this seems like it would be an OK upgrade, but I sure wouldn't put down more than $100USD and a new two year contract for it. Especially since general leaks like this seem to happen months in advance, who know what could pop up between now and then.
Perhaps it was not the best word to use for what i meant but as English isn't my primary language i can't think of another word for it.
True, but looking at the amount of time that has passed since the release of the G2/Desire Z and at the amount of other qwerty-sliders that were released, i don't think we'll be seeing any other phones with full qwerty anytime soon.
oo.. LG..... that's a little dicey............
G2 successor or not, if it comes to T-Mobile and it's not half bad I'll buy it. Because of the QWERTY of course!
I don't think so. I don't see AWS supported, but then again I haven't been keeping up with radio bands in a while.
I've been with T-Mobile since Voicestream, and have been buying QWERTY smartphones since Windows Mobile was relatively popular. T-Mobile has had a new HTC qwerty slider released around the time my 2-year contract ends for around 4-5 phones.
I'm being hopeful that the trend will continue, and that later this year we'll see an HTC slider with Android released around the time the G1/G2 owners' contracts expire. I expect it to have upper mid-range specs, although I always hope for "top of the line."
If there isn't an easily-modified, well-spec'ed qwerty phone released by time my contract is up, I may finally jump to another provider.
Well i do hope so that HTC will release a new qwerty slider, but still all the rumors on various sites aren't promising.

I would personally hesitate before buying a Motorola or LG product due to ROM support and poor product testing before release. Perhaps Motorola will be better now that Google bought it.
For those desiring qwerty keyboards, why not lobby for a small bluetooth keyboard that fits in a special case the also encloses say an HTC One?

I never had a Motorola or LG phone so no experience. But i rather have a less xda (rom) supported phone then one without a qwerty keyboard.
Sure this could work but the keyboard then has it's own battery and uses bluetooth to the phone. I won't even look at the slow bluetooth pairing speeds and extra batterydrain, using bluetooth on your phone for this just isn't practical.
Also i don't want an extra case that thickens my phone.
And if this will be the only available proper qwerty phone in Europe it'll get enough attention eventually i hope.

Honestly LG Replacing a HTC? Na
Everything looks great about the phone except the iPhone 3GS chrome styling and the horribly low resolution screen. That WVGA must be wrong, surely? I remember ages back before the release of the "Nexus Prime", that was said to be WVGA as well based on its User Agent.
I don't think the resolution is to low. 800x480 like the Desire Z is fine. I don't care much about styling, i do care about buildquality, qwerty and specs.

Nice, thanks for sharing.
Let's hope the specs will be released soon.
It said 5mp camera hopefully that's incorrect cuz if the camera sucks then most likely the rest of the phone wont be much better

Man I am hoping the new Samsung slider has powerful specs. I hate it when they shaft us thinking we are just texters. And yeah that 5mp better be a joke or must be the best 5mp camera phone. When the Desire Z came out it had one of the highest specs. HTC needs to go back to its root... an HTC One X slider now that is a dream phone.

UPDATE 2/14/09- HAHAHA!! I LAUGH AT THE VERY FIRST COMMENT POSTED!!!! IT SEEMS OUR DREAMS ARE COMING TRUE WITH THE NEW HTC MODELS LEAKED!!!!! So i guess all of our hard work and wishfull thinking has finally paid off. The only thing to really worry about now is whether HTC will hold true to the leaked hype and deliver to ATT a touch Hd variant with a full qwerty in true Iphone killer fashion. I WILL BE CHECKING ALL WEBSITES FOR ANY NEWS ON MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS '09 NEWS AND HTC-RELATED PRODUCTS. If we dont see this screen on the leaked models at MWC 09 then im definitly saving up for the Toshiba TG01!! keyboard or not, a 4.1" screen with full divx support outta the box!!? now thats an end all to smartphones for sure!! keep ya posted on all the new pics if we get any. Plus ill try to create some better quality Photoshop pics of the leaked HTC phones so we may be able to have a better resolution. thanks all for the poll responses!!!
Update!!! Ok so ive been working on the 3D model for this concept. I finished pretty much everything i wanted to do. The look is there. hopefully someone over at HTC is checking these pics out. It took me a total of about 3 days to model out this phone. and it was fun to decide the final look. overall i would say it should be no thicker than the tilt. hopefully with new tech it will be thinner. aside from that i thought it would great if the front buttons were only visible when the screen was on, seeing as how they are not physical buttons. and maybe they could all be configurable to different icons, almost as if they were on a small led screen so you could give them a custom look. the camera is now flush with the back, which is how i think it should always be. maybe physical limitations are to blame for the official design. i hope all you guys like it. I might consider putting together some models of other concept phones in the future. maybe an Iphone with a slide out QWERTY k/b!! hehe. just kidding. who knows. hope you all like them.

For me it is a fake PS and this model will never happens.
I do not think that they are will release a qwerty model as it is directly competing against the iphone and they do not want it to be thick.
I'm hoping you're wish will become true...
But we always want more... : http://www.mobilecowboys.nl/mobilerumours/8263
they are fake, I made them!! just wishing they will come true. someone needs to make thinner keyboard hardware and thinner slide-out hardware. my tilt still feels like a brick. and the touch pro? that is a joke. too thick for me. thats why i made these. my Dreams!
Thats clearly Photoshopped
I think a HD, with Qwerty will just become to bulky to be really really attractive..

And after they got the keyboard attached they will add a fingerprint scanner, tv-tuner, wimax, surround sound speakers and hdmi.
I think this is already one of the best phones HTC ever built if it is as good as it looks. The only true iPhone-killer so far I think. Of course they can build a phone that suits everyone's needs but first of all they need to beat the competitiors before experimenting. I will probably buy it next year.
By the way, on the second picture in the lower part of the picture the keyboard is wider than the phone, so when you close it the keyboard will stick out on the other side.
Great tazbo28!!!
As a happy Universal user I always have been looking for a REAL succesor of the best PDA ever made!: Universal
And this work you done it´s exactly what I call the PERFECT uni succesor!!
I don´t know if this will become real or not but I´m having hope!!!!
Congrats!!!
That's the phone I'm waiting for. Why would the iphone have anything to do with holding back production of this type of phone. They could have the best of both worlds with the Touch HD (iphone killer for those people wanting it to be dead so bad) and the Touch HD Pro (for those people who really don't want to give up the use of a physical keyboard). That's how you could kill more than just the iphone. I'll be waiting.......hopefully this will be born someday.
It would probably sell but....
anyhow, your lighting is all wrong which is why it looks very fake.
It'd be good to see the Touch HD have a QWERTY keyboard.
You tried but u didn't photoshopped it well
I just hope this could happen in reality...it would be an all round iphone killer + a wonderful piece of device.
Oh Jesus! my post got hijacked and now, the whole world wide web is filled with your mock up picture of HTC Touch HD Pro and rumours that the PPC might be coming... damn, this is what the WWW could do

I saw this on at least one other website and I don't recall them recognizing it was faked by way of wishful thinking.... doesn't take much to "start" a rumor does it.
i had a wizard and a trinity. My conclusion: the keyboard is not used all the times, and anyway too small for real typing. I bought a bluetooth keyboard but never used it....
The best PDA Fake I ever saw was done with a HP 4200 I think. They detached the touch screen from that tablet PC and hooked it up to the Dell X51v's VGA-out and claimed that HTC got a new supersize pocketpc / tablet-whatever thing. Very funny fake since they did it on video which made it look even more realistic.
If they would make a foldable version they could compete with the E90, that's a very very solid pda in that part of the business world: weight doesn't matter, just quality, size and funtionality.
It is true..why cant HTC make a ppc with keyboard just like the E90 - i mean the one that closes and not slide :-?

HTC 4G Evo Review
I can't stand the samsung phones, especially after seeing how they treated the Moment (worse than the Hero was treated by HTC and Sprint). Not to mention I think the Epic looks like crap, and the Evo just looks freakin sexy
Touchwiz is pretty damn ugly and it's quite pervasive in the Galaxy S operating system. Then again, there will likely be custom roms and lots of support for the Epic since it will be on all major carriers. The screen kicks the EVO's ass and it's allegedly quite responsive, unlike the Moment. I think we need to wait for full reviews of the Epic.
I'm keeping my eye on the Epic too. There were some good points to the Moment but the bad outweighed the good.

Both are intended for purses obviously.
lets hope software updates last longer than 6 months.
ya they are big..a damn holster would like so freakn silly for these phones.. hell the one for my hero with the seidio 3500 extended battery is huge already.lol
I think 3.5 to 3.8 inch would be my range as far as screens go.. any bigger and to me its like a mini tablet.lol
but like all will skip samsung because of one reason. they never have any good extended batteries.. unlike htc... where they are plenty... so might get a evo ( maybe ) around dec.. who knows.. still love my hero...to even think bout it.. I mean look at the dream..lol they got froyo.. the hero will still get support for a awhile..so why switch..when that money can go to something else.. like food, lol

the Evo will fit nicely in my back pocket. Hell, it'll fit nicely in my front pocket of any pair of my jeans. And it'll rarely be in my pocket anyway, since it sits on my seat in my car when I'm driving, and it'd sit on my desk while I'm at work, just the way my Hero does now
But the hero fits in my watch pocket also the epic is supposed to have a faster gpu. And I love my hero, but I like the idea of a keyboard for gaming.

im like the epic better but like what has been said ill wait for reveiws and see what people say on here and see if samsung will fix any problems that might happen like with the evo
I plan on waiting for the dual cores next year anyways, not eligible for upgrade may.

Both phones are nice and I think it comes down to three main factors imo:
1. Will Samsung Epic be rootable, and if so, will Dev support be equal to the Evo;
2. Do you prefer a physical keyboard; and
3. Do you prefer Sense UI over the Epic's UI
The thing that sucks (well, actually good) is that technology is always advancing and new devices are being released every few months and each release tries to out-do the last.
Personally, I'm going to say Samsung Epic since I am on a Hero and have problems using the keyboard. I'd like to give a physical keyboard a try for a few months.

Hard to say. This is how I see it.
Epic: Best hardware, good physical size.
Evo: Full support of xda.
Top-notch hardware vs. top-notch modding community, it's a very hard decision (for me, at least).
I'm leaning towards the Epic. What keeps me on HTC phones is the support of this community. If that is going to carry over to the Epic, there is no real reason to stay with the Evo. HTC has poor support for their phones which has been proven by their lack of porting Froyo to the Hero. Clearly it is doable. Additionally, if the Epic crosses carriers, we will see a lot of great minds working on the same phone.
Ive read that the actual processing power on the galaxy s is quite better than the snapdragon processors, so if that's your thing...
Plus the pervasiveness of this phone might lead to a lot of work getting done in the xda community.
I thought I'd cross post this coming from a G2 to a One S

why not the one s? i'm seriously considering moving/upgrading to the one s because i'm tired of people saying that my phone is "thick" and "heavy", so the one s is perfect for me

I'm also considering the HTC One S... but I will not be purchasing the grey/blue accent version. I've heard that the One S might be released in black/red accents later, likely related to the chipping that occurred to the international version with this MAO treatment. If anyone has any real news regarding the release of this version on US T-Mobile, please post here or start a thread... I follow TmoNews.com, but haven't read anything definitive yet.
Great read; only thing I missed was your reaction to the speed boost vs G2? What is your impression?
Thank you for mentioning that HTC should not name their web browser "Internet". Pet peeve of mine! There is an AOKP setting (I think it's AOKP?) that lets you use the volume up/down key when you have the IME keyboard out to move back/forward over the text input line. When that comes to your One S it should help ease backing up a few characters since you now lack a trackpad.
Your review speaks similarly to what mine would, I'm sure. Some of the reasons you speak of (and obviously, no QWERTY) are the reasons I am not buying one of these new flagship phones. IF there is a QWERTY and it completely blows or is locked down then I'll be considering moving to a non-qwerty phone, but let's be realistic here. New hardware and thinness do not matter. Those aren't new features, they're expected with new devices and aren't something that will add sway to me purchasing the device.
I think the SIII is pretty hideous, personally, and while I have a Samsung TV, I'm not the biggest fan of their mobile device build quality. That said, some of the features in the SIII are pretty badass. I dunno if I'd enable that feature that creepily detects my eyes, but I do dig the wireless charging amongst other things.
People are so blown away by the One S/X when they don't seem to realize that all new [flagship] devices coming out this year will have similar hardware.. so if that's the case, then why not wait a few months and see what else is announced? I guess I'm just old fashioned and tend to wait to see what the user reaction is to new devices, as well as the user/dev community, etc. Because those things matter!

This thread made me realize that the one series are built in batteries.
Its so nice when your phone is dying and it takes only a few second to change the battery and go.
In school, I hate people saying "oh, dont play with my iphone too much, I need battery for the ride home".
I think HTC messed up the fans again.
I hope these are only rumors and this phone will be a mid range phone...

Why should you be angry.. If they release another flagship in 6 months, good for us. Sell the current one and buy new one. Simple

Actually, that looks like a low-end phone for the MVNO's or emerging markets.
This looks like a mid-range phone.
HTC had three devices released at the same time last year (One X, One S, One V) so to make their 2013 numbers it only makes sense for them to continue adding new phones to their range.
Well they already said that we gonna get only 1 high range. And it is fiiine.
That M4 render majors it look cheaper than any of the competition. I wouldn't buy it.

Definitely a low end phone, they shouldn't be worrying about another flagship phone when I am still waiting for my developer version.
Doesn't that look like the HTC First?
I really hope they don't mess it up by launching a One+ in 6 months.
This is their main problem (ok maybe 2nd after marketing), if you buy an HTC flagship phone you know that after half a year you no longer have the best of HTC (sensation XE, XL, Onex+, Onexl...)
Samsung & Apple don't have this problem.

The phone in the pictures is the HTC E1 (603e) which is a lower mid-range Chinese market phone:

Looks like a mini dna, probably we wont see it around here

You want HTC to stop innovating or stop producing faster phones even when they can, due to improved binning, just so that you can always have the latest phone?
That sir, is ridiculous.
Perhaps they should make it two years before releasing new models as that is now a typical contract length and European warranty length?
Or three years, because let's face it, who likes spending money?

Exactly all these people complaining about companies releasing new phones. If you can't afford don't buy, it's not that companies have to release phones according to some ones buying habits. There are always people shopping for new phones in different seasons, so companies have to release new phones to be relevant. The htc one 6 months down the line will be an outdated phone. I can easily see an updated version of One with Snapdragon 800 may be.

I don't think we can call the Sensation XE and One XL innovative phones and it's not only a matter of personal preference, I don't think I am the only one in this case.
Last year HTC admitted they launched too many phones and people got lost in all the different versions.
In the end it's a problem of strategy; Apple and Samsung have a simple offer (at least with the flagship devices), which is easier to advertise and apparently easier to sell.
Mystery solved.

Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC will begin promoting its new customizable E1 phone in China, our sister newspaper Commercial Times reports.
Chinese customers will have the option to customize their phone through HTC's website with a variety of accessories including its case and the color of its phone charger, and also amend its features such as the phone's RAM and camera resolution.
HTC China estimates that the E1 will have the highest performance value among the company's smartphone range, with its price ranging from 1,700 to 1,899 yuan (US$275-$310).
The Taoyuan-based company has boosted its market share in mainland China over the past year, but its higher range models still lag behind rivals Apple and Samsung.
The E1 will reportedly sport a 1.15 GHz dual-core processor, 4.3-inch WVGA screen, dual SIM cards and 2100mAh battery. Custom options will include the phones built-in storage (8GB or 16GB), main camera (five or eight megapixels) and one of the six body colors plus patterns.
Not sure if you guys are aware of the rumors or not, but the HTC One M8 will have a better edition available soon titled the HTC Prime. It's rumored that it will have a faster processor speed, better camera, etc. Here is the link with the details : http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/htc-m8-prime-news/
How do you guys feel about this? Personally, I feel a little cheated. I've heard companies release smart phones to work out the kinks and issues in the 1st edition then recently releases another better one shortly after, butI didn't think HTC would fall in line with that. If this isn't a rumor, Id feel as if I'm missing out. Just sayin'.

This was rumoured even before the first one was released so it's not that much of a surprise...
As long as they wait 6 months...

Its ridiculous after a few weeks now an inproved version in fact i was pissed off and i call htc who knew nothing very cowardly.
I think it,s an anti-poor policies from htc if all this is true
would definitely feel cheated.
I got my M7 near launch and the only thing that came along that made me want to upgrade was the M8.
The M8 means 8th flagship, how can it be a flagship if there is a better model from HTC out and about.
I hear excuses that this was a premium version, but my M8 is already the most premium device out there.
ho hum, we shall see!

Nearly every other company does this. I'm pretty sure Samsung is doing the same thing...
As EddyOS mentioned, there was already multiple rumors going around before the M8 was released.
Well HTC didn't with the M7 and Apple don't.
Samsung have an obligation to flood the market with every device conceivable, HTC are better than that.

I think HTC is carried away by the other manufactures, but it is definitely not customer friendly
keyword: 5.5"
go checkout the Desire 816, which is also boomsound + 5.5" compare it to your M8 size
and let me know if you still decide to cry
equally s805 power is wasted on the 2k resolution you will be surprised, this is why most OEMs decided to stick to 1080p this round

check the onscreen results...even the Tegra K1 struggles with 2k onscreen
The Prime = new Max
extremely piss off htc it's now Samsung ??
It's a One Maxx 2 and far too big. Just as useless as the One Max 1. Anyone upset at this needs to get a grip. 5MP UP ? No point either.
Sooo... companies should stop improving and releasing new products so customers don't get butthurt? I'm confused. Every company is going to be constantly building and improving on their products. If they never released one because another better one was in the pipeline, then they'd literally never release a single thing. Technology moves fast, get over it.

Exactly. It's not an upgraded M8. It's a new max.
Do not want. Way too big.
IMO this is really unnecessary!
Samsung and HTC could use these new ''features'' in a new mobile, M9 and S6 for example. I bought the M8 mid april, and maybe, soon i will have a ''old device''?
This is really sad...
But, anyway, these new devices look very good inside.

I didn't say they were. But being that the "Prime" has half inch bigger screen than standard M8, it's closer to being a "new" Max, rather than a "better" One.
It's too big for me. I'm not butthurt that they are coming out with it after purchasing my M8. Its a totally different class of device.
I stand by my "do not want."

OK I understand In that case, you're right
I'm okay with this... Bigger screen means more power consumption.. The only thing that upsets me is the better camera rumor.. Even then I'm fine.
