do you guys gave any recommendations ? i already rooted my epic but i wanna know whats a good touchwiz rom, a good kernel since i dont know anything about the epic.
thanks in advanced
this will be my home until the galaxy s ll gets released.
Welcome to the Epic forums. As you know we don't have official gingerbread yet but we do currently have builds based on leaks they aren't pefect since they're leaks but they're really close to with Devs Tweaking as much as they can with out source.
The froyo roms we have are really stable, and lightning fast its just a matter of personal preference
Here are a couple of roms and kernels, there are other great roms and kenels in the developement section but these have always been my choice
ROMs
ERA Rom froyo:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209549

I suggest the rom in my sig, ERA 1.4. It is a gingerbread leak (2.3.4) based rom which has no issues that I'm aware of. It's great.
To get there you will need to odin to the EH06 leak here
Next, follow the instructions here to install ERA. I suggest running the V6 supercharger script and enabling battery percentage meter (found in status bar tweaks).
edit: attached screenshots with tencent (miui-esque) launcher
Thanks for the responses. I tried random rom 2.2 final and my battery almost died after 5 hours. Now I'm running frozen.
And yess I love my new gpu

Remember to calibrate battery after flashing a new rom, your battery will be bad the first 2 days since its "getting used to everything".

I just upgraded to EH06 last night. I dont have a battery meter on the status bar. Can you explain a bit more on how to get it?
Thanks!
same thing happened to me. No battery meter of any shape. It must just be a bug in that rom.

Noob to the Whole Thing....
Besides being a noob, I just switched from a un-rooted EVO 4G to the Epic which I just rooted today. Now I'm completely lost as to what to do next and/or what my options truly are.
I have spent the last few days researching forums, youtube videos and websites about: how to root, why to root, and the tools to root.
I downloaded both the oneclick method and the Odin methods before using oneclick.
I hope to get the most stable, fast running, and flexible ROM with Wifi Tethering, CPU and Battery Optimization, and App organization built in. Cool themes and boot up is cool but not my priority. Also any way to use Video out. Please help a noob.....
Here is a brief list of what I have done in all:
1. Root my phone with OneClickRootCWM3.1.0.1-EC05
2. Installed these apps - Wireless Tether, Dolphin Broswer, ROM Manager & ROM Manager Premium, Quick Boot, ASTRO, AdFree, Titanium Backup, Battery Calibration, Link2SD, APPBrain w/ Fast Web Installer

Post the battery backup SCREENSHOTS... Bcoz ACE sucks out battery to the core... So how much hour u got the backup??
I read here on XDA that Lagree v3 8.5 and turbo boost were partially in conflict and that the cause of major problems were attributable to Lagfree that the third version had some problems (in fact it has been granted an alternative version to solve problems) .

Well I am personally using this ROM and had no problem till now. I too herd about these bugs but never found personally so added them. I will definitely take a look on the users using this ROM and their opinion on the same. If they find it buggy then will definitely change in upcoming version/update!
Why is it green in battery solve it bro I think a bug

LagfreeV3 is broken so never loads completely, all you are doing is wasting startup time using it. TB 8.5 is better written, but can install a broken version of sqlite3, breaking the command-line sqlite3 engine, so make sure you don't use the cwm zip but manually just install the scripts. LagfreeV3 has been fixed and optimised by g_BonE -- use that version if you are still desperate to put that script at least, but honestly if you take pride in your work, don't include broken scripts in your ROM (lots of ROM cookers here just include them because everyone else does, even though they are broken!)...

nope! it's not a bug. Actually when you get connected to internet via wifi/packet data the signal bars turns into blue to show the connectivity means you are connected successfully to the internet! I think it's the nice thing though!

Thanks a lot mate. I just want to know what exactly v3 gives errors? Because it's my 3rd day on this ROM and still no bugs.. I do heard about it's a buggy but never had any experience. Your help is much appreciated. I will definitely update my ROM if I get to know what are the actual bugs. Waiting for your reply!
LagfreeV3 doesn't make your phone buggy, but it will make your phone slower, trying to start a script that never starts and loop all the time, lol

From my understanding, a lot of the fixes implemented in lagfree v3 were redundancies and placebos. Gbone took what was beneficial and hashed out the redundancies creating a script that did something. Afaik, his script had a few problems due to the amount of lines on it that could boot creating a boot loop. Haven't followed it much but that's what I got out of it.

LOL!! not standby actually but you can say it's what I use my phone daily. Attached latest screenshots. My phone is always connected to my wifi network. I do chat on sms, wats app. Do and attend some calls daily. Hardly play games (not more that half hour and yes this consumes lot battery). Maybe "deep sleep" is the key to save the battery. Well maybe in your point I am a less mobile user because don't know how much others use but the battery is sufficient for users like me. The screenshots shows 17h backup and still 60% battery remaining. So maybe I can expect another 15-16 hrs.

Adwait

Battery Mods, to be flashed from CWM.
Note: these battery mods were made for V7.1. They work on V8 but you'll get old Toggles and TaskSwitch from V7.1. To restore V8 to defaults then, use V8_NO_TOOGLES_default_battery.zip

The Glitch V14 beta 6 works well for me, even with OC=1320MHz and LiveOC=110%, even more stable than it was on CM9, but when Deep Idle is switched off. I have SOD/reboots with Didle (though this is a known issue), so I don't recommend to use Didle for now.

Battery life is better than it was on CM9 and there is no Android OS bug (it shows about 4%) on this ROM.
Excellent something to do in the evening.
People atleast flash the rom before asking for battery life. Also it will take a few charge cycles for the battery to give good results.
Also it states in captivate version miui music is replaced by google music, can i replace google music with miui v4 music, as google music is useless for me in India.

Just flashed this and man it is smooth and fast! Just like in the video. I also installed all my apps and still there is no difference in speed.
And all this on stock kernel, excellent work by ELITEMOVILE and thank you for bringing it here.
I only found one minor problem, after i disconnect data, the arrow icon for upload stays on, even when using wifi, it shows the icon on the signal bars.
Good job, man! This one better for me than DK3.

Running with Glitch v6 and all seems to be well. I restored several apps with data that would not work but after uninstalling and restoring without data they seem to work ok. This was coming from a TB backup on Doc's V6.
Seems to be very smooth and responsive but I do miss some of the enhancements made to the 4.0.3 roms. In due time........
Good job with the port!!
ended up wiping the data and re flashed it...
so far so good......very smooth....
Had been using CM9 build-17 but could never get SMS messaging to work. This ROM has SMS crash as well. Suggestions?
The music player seems odd. It will play from files but does not show any content in its menuing.
What I would like is status bar customization, e.g. ability to choose numerical battery and signal measures instead of graphical.

Hello,
After I installed ICS (JB or Stock) a had the problem, that the tab took about 80mA - 190mA from the Battery.
I'm monitoring the Battery from my HC 3.2 Overcome, and there the drain was about 20 - 30mA. So I'm not
happy with this Situation.
Then i tried the CM9 experimental from pershoot. And there i have the same low drain from about 20-30mA.
Now i want to know, why in Stock ICS the drain is 3-4 times higher than in CM9?
Can anyybody give me a hint about it.
I've tried it with a clean install, where i really only installed the battery monitor....

it seems like a kernel issue on stock ics , it keeps searching for signal even if airplane mode is on !
what i did is i installed the stock ROM then i installed a1 kernel over the stock one ..
it seems like the problem is fixed for me
Hi,
thx for your answer, but i already installed aa's kernel.
i tried from 1.59 til 1.7.

I think you use Stock Rom "XXLQ8" - italian ics??!!
If the answer is yes, the problem happens with me with this rom even with A! kernel.
I fix it by these steps:
1- Backup all your data....
2- Downlaod "JellyBeanRom ICS v6" from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1813651&highlight=battery
3- Make a full wipe.
4- Falsh the "JellyBeanRom ICS v6" as Thread steps.
5- After the tab restart and finshing falshng rom, go to bootloader and make "Wipe Battery State"
6- I hope everthing is fine now.
Or try to flash another stock Rom ver with "Full Wipe Data & system"
This is my personal experience with this issue, and this is the solution that saved me
In CPU spy you will notice that the tab doesn't go to deep sleep for long periods on ics. If you have betterbatterystats installed you will notice that this is caused by a kernel wakelock 'l2_hsic'.
I reverted back to hc3.2 overcome because I couldn't find a fix for the wakelock. But ever since calling was enabled on ics I flashed back for this mod.
I am on stock rooted Italian 4.0.4 and only installed A1 yesterday and have had mixed results so far. If it continues I will probably try V6.

@dana
i've tried all "battery drain" fixes that are here reported.
Also clean installs and so on.
I think that sxi200 is right,
because i had also the wakelock "l2_hsic"
but i don't know what causes this wakelock btw. how to remove it.

i think that's very strange....
Well maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel. I flashed Toldo's JellyBeanRom ICS V6 XWLP5 which has A1 kernal and haven't had the l2_hsic wakelock since.
I flashed straight over stock ICS without wiping and haven't had a singe problem. Tab now sleeps like a baby. Will keep my eyes on it to make sure.

Same here.
Flashed ital. ics over p7501 stock hc. Performance was quite nice, huge step foreward but battery drain went up to a couple of percentages per hour in the wannabe sleep mode. I took a look at it with cpu spy and the result was nearly no deep sleep! Even if my tab wasn't in use for the whole night ( only wifi turned on ) the cpu frequency stayed at 216 MHz. This results in a non usable tab for me because i wasn't able to use it a whole day at university without recharging!!
Yesterday evening I flashed A1's 1.7 Kernel over stock ital. ics and woooohooooo more than 6 hours of deep sleep last night (even though more than I had...) and battery only goes down 2 percent within this time.
From today I can tell that deep sleep works perfect until now for the periods of non usage.
BTW: A1 Kernel also solved my problem with flickering HDMI output on my TV!! Thats amazing but I'm going to post this in the seperate thread as well now.
Maybe someone could do me a favour and quote this in the official A1 thread in the developers section because due to the "10 posts rule" I am not allowed to do so..:crying:
Hi all
Please excuse me. This is my first foray into flashing my Xperia with another ROM / Kernel and I'm running into some problems.
I've been trying to follow various threads and instructions on this forum but keep getting stuck.
Firstly, suggestions for a stable build of something?
Generally fed up of the Bluetooth issues I've been having with the Sony builds. I used Cyanogen mod a few years ago but understand that's not around any more?
So far I have unlocked the bootlader on the Z5 compact.
I have also tried flashing a TWRP recovery to it using fastboot. This kind of works, but then I just get stuck into a reboot loop. I can get into the recovery, but not much else.
I've managed to revert back to 32.4.A.0.160 through Sony's Emma flashtool. This boots fine but doesn't appear to have any recovery function. Essentially I'm back where I started after much frustration and trawling through threads.
Any help would be welcome. Please explain things as you would to an idiot
Cheers
Jo
unlock bootloader
flash recovery/TWRP to recovery partition
flash custom kernel (stock with tobias.waldvogel's mods)
to get into recovery you turn off the device and keep volume down + power button pressed until you feel a vibration (confirmation), then you can release the power button - it'll boot into recovery

Hi,
Please you can maybe help me also, i really do not find anything useful so far,
I have unlocked the bootloader, i have a working TWRP and also Supersu. But i still have issues withe the DRM keys. My first kernel was passing most of the DRM tests (most of them, not all) but the wifi was nor working. Now i have a working one but all tests fail. Considering the fact that i even have a TA back-up can you please tell me how can i patch a kernel with my keys (not to restore TA partition, i need the workaround) or a good kernel (a stock but to work with stock fw and to be able to use the thermal control FSC and adiutor). I`m noob with Z5c and it is very different from Xperia SP (my previous phone) witch i have a lot of experience.
if stock based I use this https://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-compact/development/rom-stock-z5c32-3-0-376r2dau-t3570248
Aosp based I use this
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z5...ageos-14-1-bernis-alternative-builds-t3694904 , this rom more fast than stock. now I use this, camera quality is good also.

Okay, thanx for the the info... but:
- What kernel do you use for the AOSP build?
- How do you root and still have DRM keys ?

that's Rom include kernel. I don't know about DRM on AOSP build, never check since use that's ROM because my camera working fine and less noise.

Hi,
Thanks for the info. I have settled to the AOSP from your link (Bernie`s). I confirm that Magisk works great with it, and all seems very good now. I had to install GAPPS from opengaps site. Hope the battery is better than Resurection .

Hello
Thanks for the reply.
You got some excelent battery life. I still hardly get 12 hours even after some serious downclocking my cpu's and hotswap set to 95. I have tryed to take a screenshot to the battery screen but i have only the history from last charge (wierd).

Try calibrate your battery first, charge until 100% then use normal until drop between 5%, charge again to 100% . Use again and no need drop until very low battery to charge. I use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration for calibration.
Use calibration at once only, not to much.
Your battery status must above the line inside Mv bar on battery calibration apps when unplug the charger when percentage 100%.
If 100% then unplug chager but Mv battery below than line in the Mv bar, your battery probably broken and need to change.
I also use battery charge limit to safe life time of battery.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/root-battery-charge-limit-t3557002/
I'm limit to 90%
Wow,
Thank you Alvian. That battery optimiser realy did the trick, it literally doubled the battery discharge time. Thanks
