i got tired of my evo
do you guys gave any recommendations ? i already rooted my epic but i wanna know whats a good touchwiz rom, a good kernel since i dont know anything about the epic.
thanks in advanced
this will be my home until the galaxy s ll gets released.

Welcome to the Epic forums. As you know we don't have official gingerbread yet but we do currently have builds based on leaks they aren't pefect since they're leaks but they're really close to with Devs Tweaking as much as they can with out source.
The froyo roms we have are really stable, and lightning fast its just a matter of personal preference
Here are a couple of roms and kernels, there are other great roms and kenels in the developement section but these have always been my choice
ROMs
ERA Rom froyo:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209549

I suggest the rom in my sig, ERA 1.4. It is a gingerbread leak (2.3.4) based rom which has no issues that I'm aware of. It's great.
To get there you will need to odin to the EH06 leak here
Next, follow the instructions here to install ERA. I suggest running the V6 supercharger script and enabling battery percentage meter (found in status bar tweaks).
edit: attached screenshots with tencent (miui-esque) launcher

Thanks for the responses. I tried random rom 2.2 final and my battery almost died after 5 hours. Now I'm running frozen.
And yess I love my new gpu

Remember to calibrate battery after flashing a new rom, your battery will be bad the first 2 days since its "getting used to everything".

its calibrated already, you should make that extremely bad

I like Twilight Kernel. It should be suggested also. Some phones don't love Genocide.

I downloaded GB on my Epic and back button does not work.

What rom? Im on olympia eh06 and mine works.

I just upgraded to EH06 last night. I dont have a battery meter on the status bar. Can you explain a bit more on how to get it?
Thanks!

same thing happened to me. No battery meter of any shape. It must just be a bug in that rom.

Noob to the Whole Thing....
Besides being a noob, I just switched from a un-rooted EVO 4G to the Epic which I just rooted today. Now I'm completely lost as to what to do next and/or what my options truly are.
I have spent the last few days researching forums, youtube videos and websites about: how to root, why to root, and the tools to root.
I downloaded both the oneclick method and the Odin methods before using oneclick.
I hope to get the most stable, fast running, and flexible ROM with Wifi Tethering, CPU and Battery Optimization, and App organization built in. Cool themes and boot up is cool but not my priority. Also any way to use Video out. Please help a noob.....
Here is a brief list of what I have done in all:
1. Root my phone with OneClickRootCWM3.1.0.1-EC05
2. Installed these apps - Wireless Tether, Dolphin Broswer, ROM Manager & ROM Manager Premium, Quick Boot, ASTRO, AdFree, Titanium Backup, Battery Calibration, Link2SD, APPBrain w/ Fast Web Installer

*** If you'd like a different type of Battery Mod, take the framework-res.apk from /system/framework and use this website: http://circle.glx.nl/
Instructions
Recommended:
1. Backup all of your apps, photos, etc. Use Titanium Backup (on the market) for your apps. Put the TitaniumBackup folder on your computer, along with your photos and such.
2. Using Odin, flash back to stock JF6. If your phone has 3-button problems use this Odin. This mostly effects 1008 phones (check under your battery).
3. Using Odin, Master Clear THIS DELETES EVERYTHING ON YOUR PHONE, INCLUDING THE INTERNAL SD CARD.
4. Root your phone. I use this one click.
5. Install Rom Manager from the market. Using this, install Clockwork Mod recovery.
1. Transfer Assonance_x.x.zip to your SD Card.
2. Reboot into Clockwork Mod recovery and flash Assonance_x.x.zip
3. Following installation, reboot the phone.
4. It will say "Config files differ". Choose "Yes, with backup and restore". Wait for it to complete.
5. Allow the phone to boot. This will take an abnormally long time. Somewhere between 2 and 4 minutes. The dots will not stop for any period longer than 10 seconds.
6. Allow the phone to establish a data connection. This will take longer than normal, and should be done within a minute or two.
7. Restore apps with Titanium Backup, add your photos, etc.
8. Enjoy for 15 minutes before caving to your insatiable ROM Flashing obsession.

Well could have said you had this coming...TODAY!!! I just redid build 19 of your other ROM and now might was well do this one since I didn't even restore my old apps yet.
I guess I talk this bad boy for a spin.
PS Just curious why you didn't base it on the new Bell ROM? Just wonder.
Can't wait for this!!
MikeyMike - does the sns sync in this work? One thing I'm not liking about Vibrant is it still has issues.

Just flashed this, Working smooth!

I just flashed to Nero V5 and i have some questions

After about two weeks i finally got the custom rom Nero V5 running on my Vibrant.
Now my question is how can i make it even better? Ive restored all my apps and data. Contacts are all back but i feel like some things are missing. Ive been told that things like Ka7, voodoo and cpu tuner are supposed to make my battery even better but i cant seem to find where or what these things are.
Can anyone shed some light on this subject in some way and maybe explain to me where i can get these things. Links or tutorials will help!

Voodoo is enabled already in Nero V5, you don't have to do anything. You can install the KA7 modem on top of NeroV5, it does improve battery and wifi/gps imo. I haven't used cpu tuner, so no comment. Here is the link to the KA7 modem forum page:

I flashed KA7 but not Nero, What exactly does Nero do and replace when you flash it. Ive been wanting to do this for a while just alittle confused. How do you go about flashing it?

Download nero v 5, put it on ur internal sd card, reboot into clockworkmod recovery via rom manager and install pacakages via sd card selecting the file u put on ur sd card. Make sure u disable voodoo and any other lag fix unless ur coming from nero v3 or 4. U should also read noob guide on rooting and flashing for step by step instructions.
If you are coming from nero v 3 or 4.1, you don't need to disable

Actually now that you've got nero working. May want to look at the new team whiskey rom that posted this morning. Bionix V it is based on the official 2.2 update and ka7 modem and files.
I wish you people would figure out that internal memory is NOT an internal sd card......it's internal memory.
In no way is it a SD CARD.

Run i9000 rom on Vibrant!!! This is real :)

Thanks to Eugene, it is now possible for us to run i9000 roms on our phone. I don't think it needs to be said but... This is FREAKING AMAZING!!! Check out Eugene's latest Dead Horse kernal for further details. I can't believe I'm saying this but... I think I'll be making my first donation.
Thanks Eugene
I know it's pretty cool, as soon as I saw it posted I went and flashed darky's rom, and its probably the fastest I've used so far (i haven't even enabled a lag fix yet)

Not intending to flame,
But what i9000 rom is worthwhile? Or highly recommendable?
It seems like Bionix 1.3 covers most of what makes Darky's so special.
339mb Ram used to be the 'selling point' for me, but that's also covered now
(Unless I'm missing something...their OP is so damn long =p )
Axura and EDT seems to cover all the other bases for look & feel etc.

I too would like to be sold on the idea of using a rom built for a "different" phone to run on the vib. It's pretty cool that Eugene got his kernel to become a universal but all the possible bugs that could come with using an i9000 rom just doesn't seem worth it.
Darkys rom is very fast, no offense to TW or EDT but their roms as of yet are not in the same league as Darky's. Don't get me wrong, I've used the latest bionix and it is quite good and TW and EDT have contributed so much to the vibrant community.

Any bugs on darkyy s rom?
Wouldn't the softkeys be messed up using a i9000 rom on our phone?
Want to see more comments before trying those
Darky's ROM now works on our Vibrant perfectly. Just flashed.
If DarkyROM app from the market works for you (Doesn't give you an error when it boots into recovery):
-Select No Kernel
-No Modem
If DarkyROM App from market give you an error on flash, use the following instructions.
What you have to do is:
-Install the Darky ROM from Clockwork as you would any other ROM
-Without restarting Clockwork, install Dead Horse Universal 2.2/2.2.1 kernel from Eugene
-Without restarting Clockwork, install any Vibrant-specific 2.2 modem. I used KA7.
-Have the FIX signal reboot fix file copied somwhere on your phone from Eugene (found at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971709)
-Reboot the phone and boot into Darky's ROM (it will take a WHILE to boot)
-Once its booted, quickly activate flight mode so that it doesn't start restarting. Then use Root Explorer/ADB/other method to apply the signal restart fix from Eugene that you copied to your phone 2 steps above.
-Wait 10 minutes after this is done, then restart the phone.
-At this point, you can apply any themes you want from the I9000 section (they will all work and there are a lot).
-Enjoy.

This is great,
But the real thing now is the Vibrant and other Galaxy phones hove been so researched and hacked so much we have the Luxury of having Awesome roms of our choice. I used to be a big Darky fan, but like others have said, Axura, EDT and TW all have gotten so close to the Mark it really is hard to distinguish which is preferable.
I do think once CM7 is Flashable without bugs, it will be the leader.... by how much??? probably not much but that community does awesome work and does provide long term support.
But Yes this is great to have another option.........
@}{Alienz}{
think you need to change that second kernel flash to a modem flash...
great instructions btw, thanks.
Pretty awesome having 2 dev sections to choose ROMs from. Amazing what source code and a little time brings.
Yeah this is awesome!! And we'll be able to flash the vibrant 4g's roms, so we have tuns of choices
I just commented on the Darkyy's rom thread so ask him about the receiving call issue, my phone doesn't ring at all, but it doesn't go straight to voicemail either, so I wonder what the issue is.
Ps: I flashed Darkyy's rom, and now I'm on Jumes rom, and it's awesome!
That's weird.. I receive calls just fine on Darky.
Also... I must say I never trusted everyone saying that 2.2.1 is noticeably faster even without a lagfix but I stand corrected. In the short time I've been running Darky the speed increase is quite obvious.
EDIT: boooo I just noticed GPS doesnt work.. Seems to be working for the i9000 people. Wonder what the deal is. -_-
Hopefully someone figures out why we can't receive calls ob darkys rom

[ ROM / 3-9 ] Calkulin's G-Tab v1.1 [ 3991 l Battery Saver script w/ Profiles ]

G-Tab Series
Based on rooted 2.2 / FRF91 - TnT 3991
ROM includes:
Tweaked stock TnT #16 kernel
GApps
LauncherPro
AOSP Keyboard
EStrongs File Explorer
Facebook
Quickboot
Busybox
and a couple more
(Removed apps are in the sdcard/Removed_Apps folder)
MODs included:

Tweaked internal storage & SD card read speeds
Annoying ads in programs are blocked
Rotation fix

Notes about Battery Saver script
Can be used with stock or custom kernels
It completely eliminates the need for SetCPU or Overclock Widget
Easily customizable if you use a text editor(scripts located in /system/etc/init.d)
It will set Max/Min CPU speed to 216MHz when a sleep
If SetCPU or Overclock Widget are detected, the script is ignored, so it will not affect them
Preset profiles are:
1.2GHz(when OC kernel is available) - 100-90%
1.0GHz - 89-51%
912MHz - 50-16%

Switched to a tweaked stock TnT #16 kernel

Awesome man
Nice...going to give this a try later tonight...been waiting for your release Glad to see you've come over to the gTab...love all of your prior work and I'm sure I'll love your gTab work. Thanks!
Just a quick question...since this is based on 3991, it's probably not going to need the TNT enhancement pack since VS incorporated most XDA gTab fixes in that release, right? Just a curiosity thing...I wasn't planning on installing it at first, but maybe later down the road to test...thanks for everything you do
Download complete. I hope you enjoy the beer, I know I will be when I sit down with a cold one tonight and give your handywork a runthrough. Thanks.
Wow, this rom sure looks tweaked. Ill try it for a while and see the benchmark and other things. XD
If mac address spoof is abled, it might be my new best rom. Tnx for all the work.

Well, aside from it powering down when I put it in sleep mode about an hour ago, very nice ROM...it's extremely responsive, snappy, and I love the boot animation, although it's kinda decieving, lol. You have a sort of honeycomb looking boot animation and even though I knew it wasn't honeycomb I started getting excited, lol. Great ROM yet again calkulin. Thanks

Best Rom for EPIC 4G is RandomRom 2.3.4 | Alpha "Hawk" w/EG22 compiled by RamdomKing
UPDATE*********9/11/2011
Sad to say but do too issues with FC'S, ramdon rom hawk 2.3.4 can't no longer hold this title for me. I have tried different fixes none have worked. So for over 2 weeks now I've been testing [ERA][ROM][EH06] Copy & Paste ROM Stock Cyan v1.1 (Updated 9/2) and have not had any FC'S, overall it has been very stable. Occasional reboots do occur but that's a common thing with all gb releases. I hope random can find a way to stabilize the rom. I tried removing gtalk as mentioned but had no success, FC'S were still occurring. O well only 5 days left and the galaxy s2 will be out can't wait. The only down is the fact that it has no keyboard.
Newbie in the posting forum+++
I would like to say that after careful testing Ive come to the conclusion that RandomRom 2.3.4 combined with EG22, is by far the best gingerbread rom for my Epic 4G. I was really excited to see gingerbread roms for the epic 4G, so I tried scrambled eggs but unfortunately it was way to buggy ( Constant Freezes, Hangs etc) and battery life was not up to part. I then cleared the phone and gave RamdomRom a shot and it has proven to be a solid rom. Battery life has been amazing and radios too. GPS is also working really good and quite reliable. I have installed all gmail applications, other stock applications and a few others like the weather toggle, amazon, ebay, plume, pulse, shazam, Facebook and a few games all running great. One of my major concerns was the fact that Im a heavy phone user and allot of other roms would freeze while calls where coming in or at the time of placing a call ( Very frustrating) and that issue so far is non existent.
I must say to anyone interested in this rom to follow the instructions to the T. Watch out from installing unnecessary programs that might take away resources from the system to work at optimum level.
I would like to thank Ramdomking for compiling the best ideas from other great developers into this wonderfull rom. I'm leaving a link to the rom below. Please make sure to follow all instructions carefully and it should all work very smooth, if it doesn't then you may have done it incorrectly or installed a conflicting app. Cheers!

before you make that statement check out [ERA] eh06 unnamed v1.1 (updated 8/17). and make sure ur running the eh06 modem, not eg22. it's better and u can run it on either rom
besides acs syndicate i cant think of one that is actually stable... seems like everything else has bugs in a bunch or more

You beat me to it. ERA is the best GB rom to date.. for me at least. Maybe if random switched to EH06 I would try it out again No other gb rom worked properly.on my phone.. I would get random reboots and random fcs. All of the eh06 roms worked well for me and eras works excellent
Tapatalkin' it from my Epic 3g
it doesnt support Exchange ? no mail app...
The app is just the client. It certainly does still support exchange. most people prefer other mail apps, such as touchdown, k9, or enhanced email. Just push the email.apk file back in if you want the stock email app back.
can you post link to the stock/default email APK? its not in the provided APK folder, and the 3rd party solutions (e.g. K9) are not passing my companies authentication

running really smooth. i highly suggest you run v6 supercharger 8, 11 after you set it up. but yeah I think they are using the eh06 ext4 kernel.. check out bonsai discussion under general.
OK, i got a head ache of trying to figure this out.....
I put hawk verson 2 on my phone following the instructions that randomking put on his blog here.
This step takes me back to 2.2.1..... is this correct. Is Hawk a froyo or a gb rom?
Pre-Steps:
Option A: Odin the .tar for EC05 deodexed EXT4.
Option B: Use one-click to root nearly any current setup with EXT4.
Option C: Already on an EXT4 setup? You’re good to go, proceed.
Steps:
A clean install is recommended (Wipe 3X).
Ensure that your phone is on CWM 3.1.0.1 (Purple).
Odin a Gingerbread modem such as EE03, EF02, EG22, or EH06.
Flash RandomROM Alpha “Hawk” v.2.
Enjoy
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I followed the steps accordingly and I kept getting forced closed messsages and it wouldnt run the email app without closing it as well. Therefore, I feel like this should be running on gingerbread even though the step told me to put eco5 deodexed ext4 on it and that is where my problem was.
So is Hawk a gingerbread rom. I got a head ache and I apparently need some guidance.
If I did indeed do it right, and I am just suffering problems, can someone please recommend a problem free rom and tell me if it runs on froyo or gingerbread?
Well if the rom installed and is running, you did it right. If you're getting fc's in email, you can try clearing the cache/data.
If you want something totally stable, radomking just updated his ec05 rom (phoenix). Flash that and it should be rock solid and still have all his battery-saving tweaks.

As mentioned, it sounds like your install just suffered some issues. Try clearing data and cache and installing again. If problems persist, try redownloading.
Also, try 2.2.1 Phoenix EC05 for a solid experience.
But to answer your question:
Yes Hawk is a Gingerbread rom. Yes the directions recommend flashing a Froyo rom. No it doesn't matter. I've selected that particular .tar due to its repeated clean success with all of my rom testing of froyo or gingerbread. Flashing a rom through cwm will replace everything but the file system and modem. In essence, that pre-step is only to ensure you're on deodexed EXT4.

When I get FC's after an install its usually because of random crap left over from previous ROM. I notice you're new to XDA. Perhaps you don't know what RandomKing meant by wipe 3x.
While in clockworkmod notice that there is an option labeled "wipe data/factory reset" and under that "clear cache partition". Those should be done 3 times each. I usually alternate between them. I don't believe there's anything magical about 3 times. Just want to make sure they're wiped clean so don't be afraid to do it 4 times if you lose count.
I also go to "advanced" and then choose "Wipe Dalvik Cache". May not be necessary but it doesn't hurt.
If you get FC's, go back and wipe 3x again and flash the ROM again. Don't do any of the options A - C if you reflash.
Good Luck!
Yeah i wiped 3x3, so idk. I mean it worked fine for a day or 2. And then i started gettiing fcs. This happened once where it was going beyond email. I was getting fcs to google framework and phone fcs.
Then I wiped it all and tried to start off fresh while being extra careful as to following the steps because I had a better idea what i was doing. Thank you all for the input and an extra thanks to randomking. I think at this point i am going to put phoenix on there and keep my eyes open for more randomroms to get updated/released.
I've been running Hawk v2 since it came out; I have a great experience running this rom. no force closes (usually those come from restoring data, bad idea) I have had a random reboot here or there, but that is on pretty much any leak. I just reboot my phone in once a day and haven't had a reboot since doing that.
I had a similar experiance. I ran it for 2 days and loved it! The Google frameworks issues. Cleared and reflased again had Google frameworks issues. I really wish someone explained what causes that because I loved the way my phone responded with that rom. I would give it another shot if someone suggested a fix.

It supports it, but I tried everything and still couldn't stop the email from "FC"s. Reflashed, uninstalled the apk, reinstalled, etc, etc... The email would FC every time I checked a new message.
Went back to "HAWK" after 2 days of frustration trying to figure it out...
Well I must say that I have also experienced FC issues with google framework. I experienced those issues when replacing batteries and taking the battery out before the phone was completely off. I'm now testing other rooms since a few people said I should of tried a few more rooms before calling hawk the best. So far from all the other roms, The only one I had great success with has been [ERA][ROM][EH06] Copy & Paste ROM Stock Cyan v1.1 (Updated 9/2).
You can find this rom below. What I can say about this one so far no FC's, this rom is also solid with battery, overall it has been fairly good.

One thing I have noticed is the fact that I can't receive mms, I only get a link to view on sprint website, anyone has any Idea how to get this to work?
Ok I gave Random Rom Hawk a second try. My first attempt worked great for a day and a half then it was Google frameworks error after error...I flashed the rom again and same thing in a day. Went back to a previous rom just depressed because Hawk while it worked was awesome. So I read and read the development strand and decided to give it another shot. This time I flashed the rom also ran the Ram control thread, then flashed the journaling zip, and uninstalled the gtalk/video app that came with the rom. 4 days everything sweet smooth and great! I am using eh06 modem and great signal and GPS locks instantly. No fc at all!!! Great job!
