Email on CM9 vs.CM7 - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been using CM9 for almost 3 months now. I had CM7 before and in early stages of testing CM9. I have used both the stock 4.0 email client app and k9mail. Wifi works better for me in CM9( more stable).
I have used the same settings in K9mail and default in stock for my Yahoo account ason CM7
While CM9 got better polling times are horrible. Loading messages takes ages sometimes i don't see a better performance since first working ports in this department.
Has anyone experienced this?
I will pursue further tweaking the apps. Maybe i will get better performance....

Any thoughts?

CaptJager vanilla rom ?

Does anyone have the new 1.6.2 version installed ?
Says it comes with handScent SMS and k9 mail.....but what I want to know is, does it also have the stock android SMS and mail apps also ? In case I didn't want to Use a third party app.
Actually.. I tried the both unrevolved and the captjager (senseless) roms, while they don't have the sense ui, they still have all of htc apps. So its kinda of pointless IMHO.. I can disable the senseui with the HTC build.
If you want pure vanilla the Cyanogenmod is the only one that I know of. I am running this one and it has its own bugs unfortunately. But it is really fast I must say. The biggest bug that I notice is some screen tearing.
I'm also currently running the CM test ROM. While I love the speed, and my battery was amazing on day 1 (only light usage, but i only drained 15-20% all day yesterday on my 1500mah battery)....I want something with a few less bugs for now. Thinking of running one of these other ROMS until the full vanilla (hopefully FroYo) gets a little better.

Handscent uses the stock SMS app to send MMS so it would have to have the stock SMS app
yes it does .

why does facebook have sync problems( i.e with contacts)
I think its because its still based on the HTC sense rom witch syncs facebook with friendstreem.apk, not the android facebook app. If you go to options in the android facebook app the contact sync options arent there. If you push the friendstreem.apk (you can leave the widget off) back onto the phone it should sync facebook again.
I installed this rom and thought it was okay then i flashed the non-oc undervolt kernel (w/o n wifi) and my phone hasent been better. Surprisingly it made a huge difference. Im still using jagers vanilla rom of course

[ROM] Cornerstone

Cornerstone is a multi windowed ui application that allows you to see and interact with 3 applications in the same window. Cornerstone requires changes to the framework so unlike other apps must be flashed and baked into a ROM.
Manufacturers website http://www.onskreen.com/cornerstone/
Development version (no root) v 0.85.1 (02/26/2012)

Does this work for WiFi xoom? I see an _1, does that mean it has improved already?
Question
Is it possible to get a md5 hash for the download file?. I assume we install the zip file with CW over the EOS nightly rom. Any info would be appreciated.

Yes, I just flashed the zip on top of EOS rom. As far as md5, I don't know.
So if this if for the Wingray model, I assume flashing it over the EOS Stingray version would result in loss of mobile data? Has anyone tried?
See OP has been updated with EOS builds. There are stingray builds there. The EOS team needs to start a cornerstone nightlies thread IMO.
Wingray Cornerstone V1 here:
http://goo-inside.me/devs/teameos/roms/cornerstone/nightlies/wingray/Eos-wingray_cornerstone-1.zip
Installed it over Nightly 78, looking fine but with problems. No Lockscreen, no rotation, dpi was changed (think this is needed to get cornerstone working) with the result that some my icons are invisible on the homescreen. Thinks it´s going the right way, but at the moment...back to 78 Let´s see the next releases.
Flashed it over Stingray Nightlies 60, then I flashed Gapps 10.5 after for safe measure, works like a champ. No issues so far.
There is a Stingray version available but when I flashed it my 4g stopped working. I'm at work right now and can't connect to wifi but I will try when I get home. For now I am back on Stingray nightly # 63 but will be trying this on a regular basis until they get something that will work.
I'm pretty excited about finally getting a nightly for cornerstone
I flashed the Eos Cornerstone build and don't have the buttons to swap windows. Is this
something that's missing by design?
TIA

Installed over build #78. Working well, with the issues already mentioned. I will use it for a while and see what I think.
Team EOS does such a stellar job...we are really on the cutting edge.
On edit: the wingray Cornerstone build is a bit too unstable to use as a daily driver, but I can see that it is really coming along.
I've been running this for about a day over nightly #78 and there are a few issues that I've run into, but I'm going to continue using this as a DD unless the issues get worse.
Here are the problems I've encountered:
- the clock on the notification bar does not update. Because of the time not updating, third party clock widgets on the homescreen give a "Problem displaying widget" message
- Beating on Cornerstone (running memory hogs in all three panels) can make it force close. If it force closes, the only option is to reboot. If you try relaunching Cornerstone, the launcher force closes and Cornerstone never comes back up.
- Some WiFi issues. The notification bar shows me connected to a network that is well out of range and I cannot connect to a new network. I have to keep toggling WiFi on/off and I am eventually able to connect to another network.
- Stock live wallpapers do not size correctly - extremely zoomed in. For some reason, third party wallpapers work just fine.
- Lockscreen works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't
In addition to these problems, which are more of an inconvenience than catastrophic issues, here are some things that may be reported as "issues", but are not truly issues:
- the density of the main screen changes when Cornerstone windows are showing. Apps at the extreme right and left edges of the home screen will not show when the two extra windows are showing, but will show in full screen mode.
- if an app is coded as strictly a tablet app without resizing, it cannot run in the small windows, only the main panel.
- you can only run one instance of an app
EDIT: It looks like some of the clock/wifi issues were fixed by reflashing Cornerstone and GApps without wiping cache.
is anyone else's headphone jack not working now under the EOS Cornerstone nightly 1? Audio is playing for me through the speakers and only the speakers.

I flashed the wingray nightly and I didn't have any problem till now!
The limit of only one instance for each app can be a little annoying but not a real problem.
If I won't find serious bugs this will be my daily
My headphones were working fine this morning when I was watching the Rum Diary on the train. I'll try to test with more apps later.
Edit: Confirmed, my headphones work across the board. Maybe a wipe and reflash is in order fir those having issues.

I agree, but still, a very cool app with a lot of potential. Knocks out my Calender and gmail Widgets and apps. Force close problems. Would like to get window switching back. Uninstalled, until next update.

I have been running cornerstone 1 over build 64 with no issues what so ever. Here's what I did when flashing from build 60. Flashed 64, flashed gapps 10.5, wiped cache and dev cache, rebooted. After reboot, rebooted back into recovery and flashed conerstone 1 and gapps10.5, wiped again rebooted and everything is working flawlessly. It is running extremely well with the kuma kernal by rogue. What I have found is if you are having issues with cornerstone just reflash it with gapps and it will usually fix the issue.

I tried conerstone-2 and it worked OK for the most part but the HDMI interface did not move audio to the TV and left the output on the built in speakers. I will give the next release another look as I believe that it has advantages.

Is anyone else having difficulty downloading the 2.0 rom?

improvement and complaint aftet ics 4.03 rom

hello guys please lets discus improvement after updating firmware. from my side what i fell is
1. Improved music quality. before on poweramp music player at full bas it uses to give distorted sound now no such issue great quality
2. Web browser improves now.
3.little fast
COMPLAINTS
1.battery drains very fast now
2.gps accuracy is now 80 ms area
3. Some games not working
Good stuff
- better performance
- features more accessible, cleanly arranged, better notfications ( with thumbnails and all that )
Bad stuff
- The slide to adjust brightness feature is gone ( when not using auto brightness )
- I had this font call 'cool jazz' which was really good, which is gone too! any pointers to get it back?
Agree that the sound quality is a lot better than GB. (using N7 and the stock player, also xpiano sounded distorted on GB, but is fine on ICS)
USB OTG support for midi
Ctrl key on external keyboard works
Faster UI
The only bad thing for me is the kernel bug. I have a 3.5GB ubuntu image that I want to delete but am afraid to do so...

My calendar (S Planner) works fine. I don;t use the local calendar, only Google calendar.
When I first flashed LPF from LPY I couldn't create any tasks in S Planner.
I tried clearing the cache and clearing the S Planner data, but still no good.
I ended up doing a factory reset and TB restore (without restoring S Planner), and everything worked OK.
I think when I restored S Planner the first time from TB, something must have gotten messed up.
HTH,
Rich
it does feel a lot faster, but that could be cos i did a full wipe :S
ICS Camera > Anti-Shake under option is greyed out, I don't know if it's turned on as default or not.
ICS People App and Full Screen Caller app is missing from ICS. Why Samsung, why?

well i too have anti shake feature in indian ics version
also i would like to mention ics is eating lots of ram even though very less applications are opened ram raises to 600 mb
The banding issue seems to be worse off on this ROM. The previous GB version was ok for me.
But in my case color banding issue has been approved blacks are more black.
To send/receive MMS now requires Data Packet to be enabled where there is no such issue in Gingerbread.
Default Email application is now missing the Folder combobox and is now only available through Menu.
When a Hotmail email account is added, read email even though marked as read is not reflected on Hotmail server. However email account to Microsoft Exchange Server works fine. As a note, when Hotmail account is added, it is added using Exchange Activesync protocol, thus the same as Microsoft Exchange Server account.
Device failing to go deep sleep after connecting via OTG to USB storage remains.

Exchange Active Sync - NOT WORKING
Please Google or someone help find a solution to this. Updated to ICS but Active Sync does not load up my emails, even tried deleting the emails and set up again but its not working.
I've reverted to POP instead and it works but its loading my OLD emails from 2008. It will take ages to load my current ones 2012 (shouldn't it be loading the NEW ones first instead of old ? weird !! )
I am running exchange with no issues, have you setup pin security? exchange will only work with that. My exchange server is 2010.
I have zero issues with my note, I am not saying I have a perfect phone, but with the programs that I use it is running perfect.
I am running stock, I used ever root when I flashed from gb using mobile Odin pro.
I used absolute system tool program to delete 25 programs that I did not need.
I have no deep sleep issues, I unplug at 8 am 12 hours later I have used the screen 3 hours plus, with brightness set at 10% I would still have 40% battery left.

[Q] Messaging app problem on ICS roms

I have a question
how come on ICS roms, may it be AOKP, CM9 or AOSP, the messaging app is somewhat lagging? the keyboard freezes sometimes especially whenever I try to input a contact.
I have almost 7200 messages on my inbox but, cm 7.2 never freezes for me
that's my only real beef with out ICS roms because it useable like camera, video cam etc but messaging becomes a problem.
I tried other SMS app like "metro messaging beta" and it works fine
any solution to this?
I didn't have any of the issues you described. Through I don't have so much messages.
yes it has for me,, anyway tried GO SMS pro with ICS and WP7 theme and it's fast as hell
have so many options to configure as well

[Q] Recommendation for fast slim ROM

Hello,
I got an Nexus S with latest official Android 4.1.2. It is my first Smartphone, I head a Nokia N97 mini before and I have an iPod Touch and an Tablet HP Slate 7.
Now, I'm a bit disappointed about the performance of the Nexus S. Most apps are working fine, but Facebook, Facebook Messenger and Skype need several minutes to start. And several times I get the message, that Facebook doesn't respond and If I wish to wait or quit.
Therefore, I'm looking for a slim replacement and I thought, maybe the SlimKat 4.4 may be a good solution for good performance and battery life.
What I like to do:
- Bluetooth HFP, AVCRP, A2DP (rSAP if possible, not mandatory)
- WLAN
- WLAN Tethering
- GSM / UMTS
- GMX Mail
- Whatsapp
- Facebook
- Skype
- YouTube
- MP3 Player (Rocket Player)
- Phonebook, Contacts and WEB Browser (FireFox, if possible)
Is this possible with the SlimKat 4.4.2 Rom?
Thanks for any advice!
Moritz
Download SlimKAT 9.0 weekly (4.4.4.). Its stable as 4.4.2. I got answer from SlimTeam myself on facebook. Ill post picture here.

Hi Mate.
You've got to remember this is an old device (over 4 years old) and switching between the latest apps and expecting smoothness is not possible. The best experience I have had on this phone is Jellyshot ROM with Marmite Bigmem kernel, but that was sometime ago and all the apps are bigger and more hungry now. Also, people may not want to still be on Jellybean still. I am currently trying the latest Cyanogenmod nightly and its seems good. The notification bar is also smooth, unlike Slimkat. I am liking it so far.
I would also look for lighter versions of apps and not official ones. I know there is a light version of the facebook app being talked about on the Nexus S forums somewhere. That is worth a look.
If I was you I would try Cyanogenmod snapshot M12 and maybe the latest nightly and go from there. I have been using Slimkat 4.4.2. build 5 and I would not recommend it. To me it was just too slow but everyone’s experience is different.

How is the Slimkat weekly build? I was going to try it but found that it was last updated last updated 6 weeks ago. I think this is the end of the road for Slim Roms and Nexus S.
I am currently trying the CM nighties as they seem to be updated more frequently (less than a week ago).
