I have a MagicJack that sends .wav format voicemails to my live email account that I then access with the email app. If I click on "open", it fetches the attachment, Winamp opens and then gives an error of "sorry, your phone does not support this type of audio file". So up until now, I have had to use the work around of saving the attachment then playing the file with Remote Wave.
What I want to do is have the .wav voicemail automatically play after clicking on the "open" button.
I have been looking around for the past couple hours of how to change default app settings hoping that maybe I could get Remote Wave to be default when I click on "open", but all of the available audio players on my NC have the "clear default" buttons grayed out. I even tried used an app called "Default App Manager" but it reports there are no default audio players.
The strange thing is that the Winamp icon is next to the .wav files in the directory where they are stored, but Winamp still does not show up as the default player under manage apps. When I uninstalled Winamp, then the Realplayer icon appeared next to the .wav files. I unstalled Realplayer and then some other app's icon showed up. After reinstalling Realplayer, then Winamp, the Winamp icon was once again put next to the .wav files.
Anyone have any solutions? I am pretty much out of ideas.

Look at the solution here
I tried what was at the link, but it requires that I forward the emails to the gmail account.
It would be simpler if winamp would just play .wav files. Is there a codec or something that can be installed to allow this to happen?

Read the post carefully. It only required you to do that once so you could set the default. After the default was set, you could use your regular email client.

I DID DO what the post said. It only will work with the GMAIL APP. The EMAIL APP still tries to open WINAMP.

Ok, maybe someone else has some ideas.
Ya, I was really hoping CM7 had an easy way of changing file associations like in XP. I guess I will just stick with the save then play routine.
Thanks for the help anyway.
I think an app called remotewav was mentioned somewhere else.

I guess this might go in General, but here goes; how do I set up my device to connect to urls in emails or messages or what not. When I click on a link in messages, I get an error message about the application is not set up please run the application first? What do I need to do?
I usually have a connection running so its not the connection.
TIA
Bump?
I'm the only one with this problem? Everyone else can click a link in a message with no problem?
What mail client are you using, and have you added anything that would change the default browser? If your using all default apps, there shouldn't be any problem.
I'm using the default messaging app? So that's what I've been using since day 1. Well I did trial flexmail but wasn't that impressed.
Lets try this...
What is registry string, key or dword to asscociate PIE as the default browser. As well as associating it with certain files ie. .html and the like.
TIA
I've got a question regarding checking hotmail online.
When I goto www.hotmail.com I can login, it takes a while before I get to my default home screen of Hotmail, but when I click on "Inbox" it doesn't respond and I have to open the link in a new tab; still not the way, but okay. When I'm in my "Inbox" tab and want to click on a message, still nothing happens. I see it selects the message (as it does at the main screen of hotmail when selecting my "Inbox" as well) but it doesn't go further after that. Okay, then the way to open in a new tab then; it just opens a new tab, but with javascipt().... in the address bar....
I know you can check your mail by setting up (or automatically let HD set it up for you) in the device itself, but I don't want to use that feature.
Does anyone else have this problem too, or know what can be done to let this work? Do I have to install a different java application for it, or someting else?
Thanks in advance.

I'm having same problem
Tried Hotmail Mobile?
mobile.live.com/hm/folder.aspx
Also, try editing your "Reading pane settings" in the Options, see if any of those other settings help you.

Yes, I've tried Hotmail Mobile as well, and that works. The normal html version still not.

I also performed a hard reset yesterday, and it's a little diffent now: I can get into the main screen, can even select my inbox, it redirects correctly, but if I want to select a message now, it doesn't do anything... strange... Before the reset, I was able te open it in a new tab by holding the link, but not anymore....
I've also seen it at another site(s), but don't which one that were. But it would be nice that it will work fine as well. So it has nothing to do with Java or something like that?

Been searching all over the place for this. In any case, is there any way for Nexus One users to send Business Cards/Contact information via SMS/MMS?
Thanks!
Haven't tried it natively but there is a free app called Contact Sender on the Market
Oh OK. Thanks for the help.

Natively, all I'm finding are barcode and Gmail...
I'll be watching this thread to see...
The app on Market says PLEASE NOTE - DOES NOT SUPPORT DROID supports version 1.1 - 1.5
So this will not work.
the payed version says it work on 2.1 with a few known issues.

I swear I saw this in the phone, now I can't find it
You can select a contact you wish to share in the native Contacts app, press menu and hit "Share", and that gives you the barcode option as well as gmail I think.
Other than that, I don't have anything.

NOPE. just tested. Only Gmail option. It sends an attached file.vcf
Very odd. Cause the G1 provided a QRcode
You probably need to download the "Barcode Scanner" app to get the QRcode in the contacts. I also have "Share By QRCode" on my phone so it could be that app as well, but one of those two should add QRcode transfer.
Also, I downloaded the "Bluetooth File Transfer" app and now it appears in the Share list on my contacts as well.

- Share By QRCode

I have found that using the stock email app doesn't allow you to "open" or attach PDF files to emails.
I have three email accounts connected to the stock email app, Exchange, Gmail and Hotmail.
1) If I send an Excel or Word document to any of these accounts I get the option to "save" or "open" the attachment. However, if I send a PDF document to any of these accounts the only option is to the "save" the file. Then I have to go find it using a file manager before I can open it. I have tried Adobe PDF viewer & Thinkfree that comes on the device and neither will allow me to open PDFs in the email app.
2) The stock email application will not allow me to attach any files other than pictures. When I click attach it brings up the file manager (it appears to be the stock "my files" application) which allows me to view the SD card and won't show any other file types other than picture types. I have multiple PDFs on the SD card in various folders and NONE of them show up as being able to be attached to the email.
The weird part is that if I use the "Gmail" email application (the one that only allows gmail accounts) I can open PDFs straight from the Gmail application without saving first. I can also attach any file type using this application.
Does the stock email application suck this bad? My two co-workers with Dincs have no problem doing either of the above things.
I tried Touchdown, Maildroid & K9. They all attach all file types & open files directly from the email.
Does anyone elses mail app exhibit the same behavior as mine? Or did mine get messed up somehow.
The issue actually appears to be related to what program the email app will allow you to use to find attachments.
The stock mail program appears to use My Files, but it only allows you to see picture files. The Gmail program will only use "Gallery" to find attach files if you don't have a file explorer installed.
I have Astro installed and if you use the Gmail program and try to attach something it will ask you if you want to use Astro or the Gallery. I then went and uninstalled Astro and went back to attach a file through the Gmail App and it only allowed me to use the Gallery app to look for attachments.
So the problem actually DOES exist in the Gmail app, but the Gmail app will let you use other file explorers to look for attachments.
I just cant see how that got past whatever process they use in developing their app.... How can you design a mail app that doesn't allow you to attach anything but picture files.... I mean thats just ridiculous.
I would not recommend the Fascinate to be honest just because of this issue. Sure it can be worked around using other email apps and downloading file explorers. Its not that big of a deal if you only use Gmail, but if you heavily use exchange and have to rely on the mail app or a 3rd party mail app it sucks.
I ran into this just last night actually when I tried to open a pdf from an email.
So I emailed samsung to ask if this was intentional or not. They didn't give me a real good answer but here is what they said.
"Thank you for your inquiry. With the SCH-I500 mobile phone, you can only attach picture file types. If you would like to attach other files such as PDF files, you need to download an application through the android market for PDF application."
To me, that sounds like this was intentional and the stock mail app will never have the ability to attach anything other than pictures.

Out of curiosity, with all the great email apps that you mentioned having tried, why not just use one that does what you need it to do? That's one of the great things about Android: the stock apps are just there to get you started!
Maybe this is a bug due to the DB issues, but whenever I click "Read first unread" for this thread, it takes me here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8315757#post8315757
I know this may be an old issue with Android, but I have searched the net and haven't really found a simple solution other than having to buy an app.
Using the stock email app, I am able to fetch the Magicjack voicemail .wav attachment but for some reason CM7 has assigned winamp as the default app for that filetype and gives the error of "Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file."
Gmail allowed me to set Remote Wav to default player, but this isn't my Magicjack voicemail address.
Is there a way to change the default .wav attachment app in the stock email program?
I use MJ with Remote Wave, off of a Hotmail address with no problem. I do have to "Save" the VM to disk first though. Then click on it and choose Play With Remote Wave.
