You can try to reflash rom or restore to stock via Odin

Are you talking about the download icon in the status bar, or the 'download mode' icon? If you are talking about the download icon in the status bar, reflash the rom, or perform a nandroid restore (which i hope you did, before changing status bar icons). The download icon in the status bar is a part of the framework. If the framework can't load, you will simply bootloop (which is what you are probably doing).
If you tried to change the 'download mode' icon, you need to flash params.lfs in Heimdall, from any ec09 rom.

Make sure you:
1) have rom manager and in it
2) have selected "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery"
3) that you also have "Droid X Bootstrapper" and have selected Bootstrap Recovery.
Then, once you've done all that follow Razorloves' direction. They are very easy.
Steven
PM me if you need more help.
lol.
1.open the Market app on your phone.
2.find Droid X Recovery Bootstrap and install it.
3.find Rom Manager and install it.
then follow Steven58's directions.
Now those are specific instructions, thanks!

I did all the instructions and my status bar is now black, but the time on the status bar is still black. In the preview on rom manager it is white

Dammit! You beat me! Then again, you forgot to mention that a good breakfast to start the day helps concentration levels when modding your phone!
Steven, any chance you would know what would be causing my clock to be black colored not white like the screen shot in rom manager?
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Cam here to ask a similar question so I might as well piggyback on here.
I have followed all the above instructions. After the phone reboots to install the new theme I get a Triangle with an exclamation mark inside and the android next to it and the install stops. Then the phone restarts and I have no black bar. Any suggestions?
Oh crap. Steven and I both failed. Lol. We forgot to tell you one important step. You have to be deodexed. Slipped my mind. Sorry about that. Easiest way to deodex is to go to www.928droid.com and use the droid x deodexeerr.

Sounds like you have to open bootstrapper app and click on Bootstrap Recovery. Then it will ask for super user permission. Allow. Then it should work

So are all these steps to get a new rom with a black notification bar or is there a way to get the black bar while staying on the stock rom?

you always make a nandroid backup in clockwork recovery prior to installing a zip. that way you can just restore when ever you change your mind about havin it.
Clarify
So just to get things straight:
1. I download and install the .zip deodexer file from 928droid.com
2.Open Droid X Bootstrapper and select Bootstrap Recovery
3.Open Rom Manager, select flash clockworkmod recovery, install nandroid backup, click on Download Rom, click on Onix Concepts, click on Blackmodz Returns
That look all right? Is there a difference between Bootstrap Recovery and Clockwork Recovery? I have to do both?

bootstrap and clockwork recovery are refering to same thing.
you dont install nandroid backup. you perform a nandroid backup by booting into cw recovery and choose backup. that will make a nandroid backup on your mem card.
do you know how to install zip? just want to make sure you're doing step 1 right.
So do I have to use bootstrapper and rom manager or just one of them? And no,i don't know how to install a .zip file. Thanks for the help

this thread has me so lost!
I have an epic that has the one click root. It has been working great but today i downloaded this new app called SGS battery icon mod2 and after i selected a layout, it restarted and then it just stayed at the startup screen thats black and white letters. says "samsung www .samsungmobile .com" and i cant turn off the phone unless i pull the battery.
Were you running a custom rom?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Time for an odin restore or three finger boot into clockwork recovery and do a few wipes.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Not sure but it seems the the app is not compatible for the epic. Like stated above if your running a custom rom. Reflash it and see if it'll start. If not than you may have to do a complete wipe through clockwork. Or if you made a backup just restore it.

I have both of these on Apex 1.0.2. My problem is I can not get ROM Manager to boot into Recovery by its self when doing backup and restore and such. Also the reboot into recovery button under ROM Manager doesn't do it either. I've tried doing it with and without hitting the bootstrap recovery button first. Sometimes it boots with the green droid and the progress bar that starts and then a warning triangle comes up and the phone reboots as normal.

Which ROM manager? FRM? other ROM managers aren't made to work with the D2 and similar devices because the devices have to be bootstrapped. If you want to get into recovery it's best to stick with koush's bootstrap only as the others will mess up the way it's setup and reboot into recovery that way. It hasn't done me wrong yet and I've had my phone since September and I've flashed a little bit of everything and I've never used a ROM manger (D2 is my first android phone so no need) they may be fine for downloading but installing is always best done with koush's bootstrap.
ROM Manager from the market does not work with the Droid 2. You need to use Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrap.
I have koush's bootstrapper and koush's rom manager. Not even bootstrapper works to boot recovery. When click on boot recovery nothing happens

have you pressed bootstrap recovery and received the "success" toast (notification)?
Yeah, everytime I press it it says it.
And when im on rom manager and I press reboot into recovery it will boot show me a progress bar with the little android guy on it, it will go like a quarter of the way. Show me a triangle with an exclamation point inside the boot again normally

Like I posted before I've never used a ROM manager other than Fission ROM manager so I would try and uninstall the ROM manager and re-bootstrap because I think having two recoveries on there will mess each other up especially because the ROM manager has not been made for the D2 which has a locked bootloader. You might even have to sbf to get rid of the install of the ROM manger recovery I'm not sure. Take it in steps though don't try to do it all at once.
Thanks ill try it

Great! Bootstrap is all you need for install at least.
I need to get my defy back to stuck cause I'm having issues with the camera (it is always getting an error «cannot connect to camera») and I need to have it replace.
I restored nandroid of my original stock rom, removed 2nd init, unroot the device, I even factory reset and format my sd card.
Thing is when I turn the phone on, led blinks blue and if press volume down it goes to but menu, is there any option to remove that as well?
Can't flash full sbf because non of them is the same as my stuck rom and if they notice anything and they always check everything, I won't get the phone replace.
Thank you for helping me

Is there any other way to fix that? because my usb port is broken so I cant flash an sbf :/
In Bootmenu you have a option to remove it. Once you entered the bootmenu on blue led, goto System and choose to uninstall BootMenu.
Hey guys,
New to the defy and it's dreaded locked bootloader. I can't access recovery, I had one installed, clockwork mod and now its gone, i get an android with a yellow question mark and sign. I have recoveries in .zip files and no way to flash, any ideas?
Thanks
Press both the volume keys together when you get the Yellow exclamation.

This is after turning on with vol- and power button? Ryt?
Yeah, also when going to ROM manager and goo reboot recovery, it dims screen and the capacitive buttons freak out for a second then the screen stays the same. Now the phone won't boot either, it does the same thing with the buttons freak out, I was running some gingerbread ROM, came with it rooted and stuff. Can I just flash sbf with no issues since the boot loader is locked?
