It took me alot to go from unbrick status in HC to get this far with V3! Now I see there v4,v5,v6,v7 , obviously the functions give better peformance ,but do I really need this? Also how do upgrade the BL ,the last time was a pain in the ass ,hopefully its a little easier ? Im am also running (t)hors tegra rom and its smooth as whistle , not sure updating the BL will add anything for me? Anyone want to change my mind, MD? Civato?

The best things in life don't come easy
Well, to be honest, I stayed with version 4. 4 gives you the ability to use your own custom bootloader image, and also Fastboot options. Fastboot options are great when you fubar everything else The other versions are only needed if you plan on running a Linux partition for dev work. You can also boot to different kernels, but most users wouldn't need that.
I used Blackthund3r's exe application to get the version 4. Selected bootloader only, do the automatic install. Over and done with in 1 minute without having to install the rom again. (pay no attention to the windows error).
With version 4, you also can do a CWM flash to any future bootloaders, so no need for the NVFlash stuff.
But if version 3 is working ok for you, then hey, let it be. Nothing wrong with it.

That alone makes going to at least 4 worth it in my book (I'm on 6). That way it will make it easier for you in the future in case some other future bootloader stuff comes that you are interested in. Flexibility is good.
Thanks MD , I'll be doing that when I get a chance this weekend!
I got V7 , but I would recommend beeing at least at V4- 0.03.14 version , V5 , V6 and V7 are all variations of that 0.03.14 ICS bootloader.

Exactly. Ver 3, will suit most of all people.
Ver 4, you can change to your own boot logo (within the guidelines of image size).
Ver 4 gives fastboot options. Do you need it? Probably not in most cases. But for me, I believe in overkill.

Don't forget , V3 is 0.03.12 and not 0.03.14 like V4 and up.
well if you look at my signature ,I too believe in "overkill" MD , thats why I asked , just needed clarification on what the newer versions give me, I think Civato needs to change one part of his signature to "dont be a chicken , just do it" , I like that in all his posts !!!
Ok I went with V6 what the hell!!!

Dear friends and DEV
I have been very surprised to observe that after 3 days 2.3.3 was not rooted
after I asked myself why this did not happen in 1-2 days as for the previous update ????
the answer is simple and comes with another question
who really needs the root directly from the stock room ?????
DEVS started having already pre-rooted the custum roms have no advantage to open the way also to amatorial people
Conclusion .... we will wait a lot of time before the direct rooting of 2.3.3.
Ptrofessional DEVS at the moment are not really interested in this because they can do their job without it and probably they like also to be more in control ....
Do you agree ??????
Yes it is probably true, if i had known this before i would install prerooted, but i just don't have no time to do the whole proces going back to eclair and than installing prerooted.... For now, i am waiting for the direct root.
I asked similar question before.
Finally I took a plunge and downgrade to 2.1 and root and install xrecovery with flashtool, and install 2.3 rooted Rome through recovery.
Here use this root app:

Then you should certainly use Wolfbreak's GB ROM
It really is very easy
Just flash his ROM first and then the .ftf bundle using flashtool
No need of going back to 2.1 eclair
This simple will never come out.
It is same as SE ARC 2.3.3 update, as soon as SE ARC 2.3.3 update release. No one can come up direct root.
Same for SE X10i 2.3.3 update.
cheers
Sorry .... may be I was not clear
I am NOT talking about 'to be able to do it' ( I did it many times since 1.6)
I am INSTEAD talking abaut 'I want to do it'........
For personal reasons I would like (if available thanks to the work of the DEV) to have the total stability of the stock room without few useless applications and with a nice theme
I m going where I cannot use computers for a while and I cannot update from bugs that with all due respect are unavoidable with custum roms
Of course not being able to perform the root by myself I do not complain, I accept the current situation and I will be in any case grateful to the DEVs
Mine was only an ANALYSIS of the current situation

From reliable devs like :

Unfortunately after 1 year of using custum roms I am fully aware of the reality ....
I have been using for long time Wolfbreaks ROMs for example after MIUI (the guy that is not anymore in this forum ... etc etc)
They are fast nice and beaufiful and I apreciate the work done but there is always a little bug that will came out soon or later ....
That is OK I am not complaining .... very quickly the DEV usually fix it
The only thing for me is that I am going abroad and I cannot use the computer for a while ... meantime I need the phone
I September I will try all the ROM and I am sure that I will enjoy their excellent performance

lets's put in this way
I would not have any problem in using the current method for rooting flashing back to 2.1
if a simple original and complete 2.3.3 rooted rom was available
But no dev has interest in creating one
BTW I am not able to download the wolf room (just for safety in the case I change my mind) ... mediafire is not working ... someone knows about a mirror ?

Well, I'm still learning the basics of android building. As soon as I get my custom hijack for 2nd init working I will try to port CM to the Milestone2. Note that I'm not promising any dates. My free time is very short and I'll do my best, but I don't want to get under pressure because of this
I think a leaked unlocked bootloader would do the trick
Just jocking. As I see it, nothing has changed regarding custom roms, as the bootloaded stays the same.
But I am quite confident, that r2beta0 will have progress on 2nd-init soon.

I think we don't need the 2nd-init built specially for GB rom, since Defy's CM7 (and Droid 2/X's) still have the base SBF on froyo. Maybe if we exchange the boot.img and devtree.img from GB leak to the ones inside Defy's CM7 update.zip (don't forget to delete /system/etc/motorola/bp_nvm_default/pds_init too, or you'll get all that GSM problems again)?
Edit: Won't Apex 2.0 RC2 work on GB Mile2?

We need 2nd-init in order to change the boot sequence required by CM7. DroidX already have a customized 2nd-init for CM7, but I don't want to use it yet as it uses bootscripts inside a /system/etc/shadow-boot.zip. I prefer to have my files ready to edit and not inside a zip file. Also, trying to make my own hijack is giving me knowledge I will need when trying to port CM to M2.

If its possible, i think that this way is more simple, however port a defy rom and fix the incompatible bugs...

We should check first if this ROM is compatible with the kernels we have available. If so, we can try to port from that. Some ppl into Development forum are already trying to do that.

It is more difficult to port from a CDMA device. If you achieve Apex Rom to work with GSM network, then you can think about porting it.

Hey guys, a new ROM has just released on Dev Forum, click here and see by your self!!!!
One maybe stupid question:
Can I install this rom on froyo or should I first upgrade my MM2 to GB?
There´s what u have to do (didn´t test yeat, I will try at night. But u can always downgrade with a stock SBF):
** Make u sure of your phone is rooted before everything !! **
1. Download all-in-one.zip and put into /sdcard/
2. Download and Install Droid2bootstrapper (old CWM) from the internet/market
3. Update to Ported Defy CWM (there´s a thread in general forum explain how to install that)
4. Boot into CWM and apply the all-in-one.zip and after (without reboot) make a full-wipe (make u sure that u have maked a backup of everything before)
5. At this moment, reboot your phone and use the keys combination for enter in bootloader mode
6. Download the fixed_sbf from the original thread in DEV forum and apply with RSD lite.
7. Your phone will reboot and after some minutes, U Can Enjoy the new ROM!!!
I think I made a big mistake!
I touch everything and I'm going to Defy baseband! I change the parameter.
Since the network can not be found.
Any idea?
i will take a look at this

But does anybody know how can I get back low battery beep and camera sounds? I find them rather useful.
I got struck in "google" logo and the phone dont boot
how can i do factory reset in bootmenu from the CM7 ? i dont find this option there...
or even re-install all the stuff...
EDIT: i can't open CWM 4.0 from the BootMenu 1.0.2 , i try latest recovery or stable recovery but it says "error in /system/bootmenu/script/recovery.sh (result: no such file or directory)
Please help ! T__T
I can't post in thread on development's subforum, so I ask my question here:
where can I find a tool and howto to make my own custom *.zip file to use with CWM? I have found a tool called Android Kitchen, but readme inside archive says, that it is mainly created for HTC devices. Am I following a correct path , or I should search some other tools?
update:
I have successfully flashed my custom *.zip file based on information taken from www[dot]londatiga[dot]net/it/how-to-create-android-update-zip-package/
coming from miui, how should i update?
Hi guys.. I just wanna know what is the best rom now for the LG gt540 (Swift)... I went to the subforum dedicated to this phone, but I see a lot of ROM, and as longer I check all, I don't know what can be the best choice..
I'm really new in this.. I just rooted my phone yesterday (I have my phone since 2010 =D)..
I update it with the official release to v2.1, but it is really slow, and I'm out of memory very soon (after a few app, I can't install others 'couse internal memory get full)..
Does anyonw know if there is some good ROM that just take up a little piece of memory, to let a lot more memory free?..
And if can be faster than 2.1, good, if not, is ok.. I really want, mainly, more space to can install more apps..

thx manhcuong90.. I indeed install that ROM.. Is very true that your battery life is increased..
I wanna advice some guy that is in my same position (noob =D)..
When I tryes to reboot in fastmode, everyone says: "start the phone pressing the camera button + power"..
That is true, but not at all.. u don't just start the phone right this, but u need to hold it untill the screen become black..
It happend to me that I started holding camera+power, and once the phone turned on, I release those buttons.. I've been almost 1 hour to figure out why it doesn't enter in fasboot mode lol...
Anyway, don't be noob like me..
Another advice, and now I'm talking to my friend andreas =D..
andreas, your steps are great, but need to resort one of them, the partition memory for ROM and Internal..
I followed your steps, by installing first some ROM with fasboot and than I install the recovery..
the 2nd step was partition of memory.. I couldn't did that.. idk now if is some ROM that cannot be done, but I tryed like eoghan2t7 says, and nothing..
I really gave up, so I jumped that step to install one of the 2 mods u let me to choose (I choose the 1st, miroslav_mm's one)..
After I let my phone with that build, I tryed to do the memory partition, and... whoala!! it worked..
So, in my case, it didn't work with some generic ROM, but with the miroslav_mm's ROM it does..
So, if someone wanna follow the steps of our friend andreas, just don't try the partiotion of memory before u install any other ROM, 'couse probably it will not work, and u will stay one or 2 hours trying to figure out WHY all other guys can, and u can't
Ok, I guess that is all.. Thx very much for those who helped me. .And I have to say, THIS FORUM RULEZ!!!.. I did found very helpfull information that help me out to flash my first ROM =D

hmm okay
the repartition only needs fastboot ^^ you can delete your whole system and data and still use fastboot so the ROM will change nothing to fastboot behavior ^^ maybe there was a problem with the fastboot connection but im pretty sure its possible to flash APPSBL to any fastboot ROM But after flashing you have to reinstall ROM anyways so it really just dosn't matter what u were using before
My next tip for you would be playing around with different tweaks
e.g Supercharger, Loopy smoothness tweak, different init.d tweaks, or swap if you have good SDcard (i don't have but using anyways )

What is the best fast rom?
GT540 Best Roms
I have flashed custom roms to GT540 no less than 70 times in 2 months. These roms were based on customized Froyo, gingerbread, ICS, JB 4.1.2 and JB 4.2.2 roms.
The best roms i suggest are:
Optimus Nexus 2.3.7
Jelly Bean 4.1.2-FlashXter
Both can be grabbed from XDA's or androidmodmarket (lists all custom roms with quick download links)
If you prefer performance over quality go for 2.3.7 and for most apps to run , 4.1.2 is the rom you need.
Secondly you can customize 4.1.2 archive using 7-zip (etc.) by adding system apps, themes , media files of your choice.
Note: Some of android 2.1 apps don't run on 2.3.7....so better use the JB 4.1.2 rom.
Hello I am a total noob to Windows Phone 7 and I will be getting the Samsung Focus in the next week or two and I am planning on flashing(fully unlocking) it. I have done some research on this site and I heard that windowsbreaking method no longer works and the only way to unlock is by flashing a custom ROM. If so, what is the most stable WP7.8 custom ROM that is out for the Samsung Focus and is their a way to just unlock a stock ROM because I prefer to have my phone stock without anything added and don't worry I've modded stuff before :silly: just not WP7 devices :good:

Thanks I can try but I am very scared of bricking my phone and my last phone just broke so I am very scared. I will get it for christmas Have there been any full bricks?
You can't really tell if a phone's completely bricked or if the user is just... um.. unable to do things correctly. Not everyone's a geek and there are people who complain that things aren't working even if they're given clear instructions on how to do it.
I just flashed with the Dynamic 2.0 ROM and it's working great. It does have a bug that I want to report (I have less than 10 posts), but I'll do it soon.
If there's someone else looking at this, here's the bug:
In XBox, when you shake your avatar and make him/her fall down, one of the animations when he gets up is to be pissed and pull the screen to a side so that the games list appears. This ROM (like the Tango ROM I installed before this) mirrors the action. He seems to be pulling on the opposite side of the screen instead. It looks awkward, and I know this is something that worked fine with my vanilla 7.5.

There's basically 2 step you have to go through to install custom rom:
1) Install MAGLDR
2) Install Custom Rom of your choice
-Link below is for MAGLDR download, read and follow the direction, (download DFT_Summy_Rainbow.zip) Chances are you'll be asked to download several different software to make it work properly on your computer.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1485569
-For 7.8 rom, try the link below for Dynamic 2.0 (that is if your Samsung Focus is rev. 1.3) It will take 10 to 15 minutes to install fully, so be patient, don't panic.

I would highly recommend you goto YOUTUBE and search for "Samsung focus custom rom" and watch the videos very carefully.

By far and away, and with the utmost respect to every contributing developer here or there, the most stable 7.8 ROM for the Focus is the 3.05 Clean ROM from Voluptuary. I've had every single Rev 1.3 or Rev 1.4 Rom released for this device and this one is the smoothest. Tiles open and close beautifully, artist match the artwork, no file errors, no unreasonable battery issues, even has a xap file deployer in place for the straight talk xaml. It's just solid all the way around.
Good luck and I hope this helps. Located under Samsung Focus Development. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528984

Just be patient, make sure you read things through a couple times first and don't be too quick and screw your devices lol This one won't, but I've seen buddies do it. Make sure your contacts and photos are backed via outlook and skydrive or whatever you use, just generally cover your butt. Have Zune downloaded and installed and have your phone charged up a about half way or so. Once you get the hang of it, it's prety simple. Have WinZip or something installed so you can unzip it and the whole thing takes like 10 minutes.

I was a noob just like you and I screwed up big time with m phone So after some struggle I was able to get things sorted out. I have prepared a blog post on that. You can refer if you want. Currently Im not able to post the link; you can google for "Unbrick Samsung Focus" and then switch to blogs, first link would be to my blog.
Best Focus Roms
Clean Rom and Dynamics rom both are really good and stable rom's. No issues or bugs reported so far.

+1 for Pure Fusion, I get up to 10 and a half hours screen on time with better performance than I get on OOS, noticeable by eye.
Ultimately, you may find a better combination out there, but the baseline for me is Fusion, it just works as it should, stamina and power.

Go for the beta-build. Really stable and awesome battery-life. That doesn´t include the latest version of Lightning kernel but you can flash that easy in your recovery.
ROM: https://download.purefusionos.com/r...n_cheeseburger-7.1.2-20171001_140503-BETA.zip
Latest Lightning Kernel: https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=27265

Super smooth, absolutely as fast as Oxygen OS. I always use "GApps" and here U should choose "ARM64" and "7.1". I recommend you to use either "Nano" or "Pico", but you could choose whatever you want!
1. Flash the ROM in TWRP
2. Flash GApps
3. Flash Magisk/Super SU (If U want to be rooted)
4. Flash "no_verity_op5.zip" (If your phone are dectrypted, otherwise skip this one)
GApps: http://opengapps.org/
Magisk (Will not break SafetyNet): https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4302781&d=1508010356

Yea mate it's always the latest version of the Rom, I always clean flash too.
I've tried all the Rom's on XDA for the Oneplus, No limits for me is the best OOS Rom (personal choice) but overall and for the things I need from it, plus Displaylink technology works indefinitely on it, on OOS Rom's it cuts out after around 9 minutes which is a deal breaker for me.
10 hours SOT is superb.

Basicly:
Encrypted = Makes it more difficult for people who are not authorized to access information stored on the phone. You are thus safer when the phone are encrypted.
Decrypted = Opposite to Encrypted. The benefit with this one compared to Encrypted is a better performance.
You can check what U use by going to the settings menu, then head over to "Security & fingerprint", scroll down to the bottom and done.
PS: I am Decrypted!

before anyone drops any more advice here to this user, please be aware that narrating the entire learning process for flashing makes you partially responsible for what happens to this users phone.
@dzesiu2002 i strongly advise you to do research on all of these topics before going any further. you could end up wasting a lot of your time or worse: breaking your phone.
research research research. for everyone's sake. i'm not trying to be mean. this is the best advice anyone can give you.

This. Also, not trying to be rude and it's awesome that everyone is so willing to help, but I don't think spoonfeeding is the best option. OP has tons of questions (many that are simple and can easily be answered with self-research).
As the user I quoted mentioned, you should visit other threads that have instructions and information on flashing, encrypt vs. decrypt and so on!

Man, i have much phones all of them always have custom rom and kernel, so i never brick the device... All rom, kernel have in own thread installation process and i going with it, newbie for sure will brick the device, if i flashed much devices without a break them, then really you still think im newbie ? Cmon in my thread in #1 post, i dont write " its my first time with flashing the device, am noob or something like that " Newbies having 100% understandable tutorial about unlocking BL, install TWRP or Root the device, but they still ask for help, did you see anywhere in OP5 section about i needed help with that ? First of all, im not stupid and know any flash is risk, but if device bricked then this is not the fault of the author of the topic, only it is the fault of the user who carried out the installation wrongly. This post is for you and means you have to post something like this in threads people who really are green and dont know anything about flashing.

i am NOT calling you stupid. i AM definitely calling you a newbie.
the questions you have been asking are very rudimentary when it comes to flashing ROMs. regardless of your previous experience, it is still best that you do a lot more reading. this obviously isn't what you want to hear, but it is as true as truth can be. if you don't know what encryption is, then you shouldn't be trying to work around it. you should be figuring out what encryption is in the first place.
