[Q] Most Stable WP 7.8 Roms - Focus General

Hello I am a total noob to Windows Phone 7 and I will be getting the Samsung Focus in the next week or two and I am planning on flashing(fully unlocking) it. I have done some research on this site and I heard that windowsbreaking method no longer works and the only way to unlock is by flashing a custom ROM. If so, what is the most stable WP7.8 custom ROM that is out for the Samsung Focus and is their a way to just unlock a stock ROM because I prefer to have my phone stock without anything added and don't worry I've modded stuff before :silly: just not WP7 devices :good:

Thanks I can try but I am very scared of bricking my phone and my last phone just broke so I am very scared. I will get it for christmas Have there been any full bricks?

You can't really tell if a phone's completely bricked or if the user is just... um.. unable to do things correctly. Not everyone's a geek and there are people who complain that things aren't working even if they're given clear instructions on how to do it.
I just flashed with the Dynamic 2.0 ROM and it's working great. It does have a bug that I want to report (I have less than 10 posts), but I'll do it soon.
If there's someone else looking at this, here's the bug:
In XBox, when you shake your avatar and make him/her fall down, one of the animations when he gets up is to be pissed and pull the screen to a side so that the games list appears. This ROM (like the Tango ROM I installed before this) mirrors the action. He seems to be pulling on the opposite side of the screen instead. It looks awkward, and I know this is something that worked fine with my vanilla 7.5.

Hello I was wondering if anyone could guide me in to look for tool/program to root/unlock my samsung focus so i can update to 7.8.. I dont know what happend to the camera and it wont work anymore.. its still stock from when I bought it.

There's basically 2 step you have to go through to install custom rom:
1) Install MAGLDR
2) Install Custom Rom of your choice
-Link below is for MAGLDR download, read and follow the direction, (download DFT_Summy_Rainbow.zip) Chances are you'll be asked to download several different software to make it work properly on your computer.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1485569
-For 7.8 rom, try the link below for Dynamic 2.0 (that is if your Samsung Focus is rev. 1.3) It will take 10 to 15 minutes to install fully, so be patient, don't panic.

I would highly recommend you goto YOUTUBE and search for "Samsung focus custom rom" and watch the videos very carefully.

By far and away, and with the utmost respect to every contributing developer here or there, the most stable 7.8 ROM for the Focus is the 3.05 Clean ROM from Voluptuary. I've had every single Rev 1.3 or Rev 1.4 Rom released for this device and this one is the smoothest. Tiles open and close beautifully, artist match the artwork, no file errors, no unreasonable battery issues, even has a xap file deployer in place for the straight talk xaml. It's just solid all the way around.
Good luck and I hope this helps. Located under Samsung Focus Development. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528984

Just be patient, make sure you read things through a couple times first and don't be too quick and screw your devices lol This one won't, but I've seen buddies do it. Make sure your contacts and photos are backed via outlook and skydrive or whatever you use, just generally cover your butt. Have Zune downloaded and installed and have your phone charged up a about half way or so. Once you get the hang of it, it's prety simple. Have WinZip or something installed so you can unzip it and the whole thing takes like 10 minutes.

I was a noob just like you and I screwed up big time with m phone So after some struggle I was able to get things sorted out. I have prepared a blog post on that. You can refer if you want. Currently Im not able to post the link; you can google for "Unbrick Samsung Focus" and then switch to blogs, first link would be to my blog.

Best Focus Roms
Clean Rom and Dynamics rom both are really good and stable rom's. No issues or bugs reported so far.

[Q] Still confused about Android, really don't know what to do?!?!

I'm still really confused. People are telling me to flash a different radio for android... then install Linux drivers or whatever, do I really have to install all this?!!? I thought it was just running Haret.exe and it works...
If anyone has individual guides for these would be great.... I'm really beyond confusion with this.
I basically just wanna dual boot the 2.1 Sense ROM (The best one, with good battery life etc.) and have everything working. If there is a particular guide, or several guides for this and someone could them to me in order I would be so greatful... because I really have no idea what I'm doing.
Also on a T-Mobile UK HD2, if that changes anything.
Just put a build on your SD card download an Android boot loader then run it simple as no need to change radio or anything else
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
If your really having trouble with it, then usually all I'd say is READ all of the stickies, all the info you could ever want on the subject and brings you to being in the exellent position of knowing almost everything. If not, take this link and call me in the morning
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732380
I do wish i could leave it there, but the OP of that thread has disappeared and isn't supporting the latest developments, but that tells you to download an Android build a ROM and a radio (oh, and a dual boot program). Those are the core components, If you wanna switch builds, you just change your SDcard whenever you do so desire. But you don't get much information on jacking round with the Kernel, this can provide quick upgrades to hardware (such as.... getting the lightsensor working in the future) without changing builds.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719646
that should give you base knowledge of all things XDAndroid (a few posts down on the second link mind you). Hope this helps

Here is the crash course for you...
* It is the best to learn how to get Android on your phone and test different builds yourself for your taste - so, what makes you happy keep that build I guess.
I have T-Mobile USA HD2 am using FroyoStone Series V1 build and everything works just fine. Auto Killer App puts battery in comparable position with my WinMo and therefore I am using now Android full-time for the past week or so - not a single SOD, freeze, etc. - it simply works just fine.
How to get Android on your HD2? Find compatible build for your UK HD2 version by reading stickies and doing a little bit of homework researching xda forum.
Then once you find the build:
1. Download it... it will be packed into archive most likely (rar, zip, 7z, etc)
2. Froyo builds go usually into one folder "Android" - as packed just copy folder Android into the root of your SD card on your phone.
3. Open it up through File Explorer, start/click CLRCAD.exe - you will see no action and that's fine - this makes sure your sound works fine... then, start/click haret.exe...
4. Leave it to boot - first boot is bit longer but it should boot in less than couple of minutes or something like that (depends on the build).
5. DO WATCH what the lines state - if there is anything like "failed to mount, blah blah" or any other possible failure to load something - come back and start searching for solution on these forums... You should be fine (however, I do not offer any guarantee as any of the build makers).
The rest is pretty easy - run Android, play with it and see if you like it...
Note: To change builds, it is very simple... Just delete Android Folder from SD Card root and you are ready to download and install (copy over) another "Android folder" into the root of the build you have downloaded.
Cheers mate!
Okay, so there isn't need for flashing Radio's etc. then? Literally just running the files?
I can't even download the ROM's, not downloading I'll try again later though.
Most of the rom builders recommend upgrading to the most recent radio. There seem to be fewer issues with SOD, robo voice, etc vs older radios. That said, YMMV so try it out with what you have now. If you have problems try to out newer radios or WinMO roms built to run android. Good luck.

There is a "defenite guide to android" on the forum. I was just like you but followed those steps exactly and now.I'm running android no problem. Just make sure you read up on everything. Its not gonna be as simple as dragging and dropping but it isn't extremely hard.

SIMPLIFIED GUIDE

Need some help with an Andoird build for my dad.

Hi
First off all I want to say: I can probably find everything here in the forum but I'll spend hours and hours reading and most off the time I'll read useless info that I don't need so if you have the knowledge and it just takes 5 minutes to share it please help me out I'll be thankful.
I myself have a HTC legend and have read LOTS off posts before finally rooting and flashing custom roms. Now my dad has asked me if I could help him to get android on his HD2.
He needs to be able to sync his agenda with outlook (for work (Calendar and contacts) I read something about HTC sync should be working on newer kernels is it included in some builds then?), and have a stable build (its not a ROM if I'm correct?) one that he could use for daily use. Don't need anything too special (not even root but its not a problem if it does have root access)
So I've started reading around in the development section and from what I read I don't need to root or flash anything, just extract a zip to the SD and name it Android. Is that correct? (then why do you have special android roms?)
So is there someone who can link me to a good stable (no OC kernels and stuff please) Android Build and tell me if there are known bugs with HD2 builds that don't get mentioned in those threats because they are known as general knowledge.
Thanks in advance
If I could ever help you back with HTC legend problem or something I'll gladly do it for you.
grts
Jonas (sorry for the pour English it's not my main language)
I'm reading topics and If I find answers I'll update this but please if you have the knowledge to help me in a few minutes PLEASE do so.
Never mind found this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782930
and solved most of my questions looks like its not as fully operating as I thought :s.
So It's not just as easy as unzipping and renaming that would have been too easy.
It isn't very complicated to run android on the HD2. I don't know what feature you suspect isn't working that scared you from attempting. Every feature I could want is working. You also don't need to sacrifice windows mobile if you try android. Give it a shot and post again if you have trouble.
Problem is that I need to root and flash other wm Rom if I want everything to work as it should. Or isn't that really necessary? I'll just try a build and see what it does. Thx for th reply

if you have to hspl your hd2 depends on your stock radio rom version. it should be a newer one like 2.10 or 2.12 to avoid most issues with android. flashing another winmo rom is only necessary if you have robot voice and/or faster playback of music (just to mention 2 problems)... you don't have anything to loose if you try android from stock hd2. if it's not working fine, you may think of flashing a new radio and/or rom!
So if I unzip the file I can dowload here put it into android folder in the root of my SD, I'm good to go? What about that kernel do I need to flash it??
if he uses it for work then i'd suggest laying off android for now
he could still use the WM? It's just like a program no? So by just removing the folder it would be back to normal?

You basically reboot the phone and it goes back to wmo. Its almost like running a live linux cd...
When you run HaRet Android takes over the phone. When you reboot it will come back to WinMo. Then you run HaRet again and you back in Android. And so on. WinMo 'lives' on the phone, Android on sd.
So the kernel they are talking about is a fake kernel? (not flashed to the actual ROM)
So if anything goes wrong at first boot with the android I can just pull out the battery without bricking the phone?

Its not a fake kernel...it is real but it resides on the sd card so your original wmo stuff will still be there in case you ever need to use wmo again.

You s should start your own thread. There are many different unlock so specify which one you're after, sim unlock? This section is only for android so if you need help on something else, post it in the hd2 general section, not here. Unless it is android related, you won't find help here.
Ok so if I install this:

I can just remove the file on the SD when it doesn't work like we want it too and everything will be back to normal right?
You are correct.
If it doesnt work for you just erase the android folder. I would recommend flashing hard spl, and changing your radio to 2.12.50.02_2. Then load the hyperdroid 1.6 rom. You will have the best luck with that probably without having to change anything in winmo.

I'd recommend using a spare SD card. When you run Android it creates a ton of folders on it, so it's easier to have a dedicated one than to try and delete everything later (if he decides not to stick with Android).
Also, I read through the thread and couldn't see anywhere... did you tell us what radio is on the HD2? It needs to be (I believe) 2.08 or higher, and it's VERY recommended to have a 2.x.50 and not a 2.x.51 radio.
If you flash a 2.x.51 radio on a t-mobile US HD2 you will brick it. Try flashing radio 2.12.50.02_2

Yeah dno the radio version or the bootloader version.
Do i need root to see that?? Is it just booting while pressing volume down to get the bootloader and the info I need?
Also I read that the HyperDroidV1.6 is overclocked and undervolted and I drather not do that. Just want it as stable as can be. (I know my overclocked legend is stable but if he has a really crappy processor,..)
BTW: I know what overclocking does but what's good about undervolting?? better batterylife?
I think I'll just give this a try this weekend (when my dad (and his phone xD)are home)

I'm assuming undervolting is for better battery life, but have never bothered with it myself. Just have a read of the most popular Android builds to see which you think will work for you. I can recommend FroyoStone Sense v3.1, but I would because that's what I use!
It's so easy to try the different builds that it's no big deal if you play with one and don't like it, so don't be shy - give em all a go if that's what it takes!
Edit: Just noticed your edit from when I was posting. lol

[Q] Need Help..

first sorry for being a noob on this things..
i got a wildfire A3333 with android 2.2.1 running on it..
my question is..i want to root my phone..its possible? what should i do first? do i need to check anything b4 starting to root it?
and again..sorry being a noob :'( please help me!
You have to get S-OFF using Revolutionary. Don't touch Unrevoked, because its not needed and will not work. You can refer the outline of the process here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
after i doing this S-off stuff, its means my phone is rooted and i can run livewallpaper?
No. You will have to install a ROM which supports it. (Which can only be done after getting S-OFF, so its unavoidable)
Just a word of caution - Live Wallpapers immensely slow down the Wildfire, except a few ones.

except a few ones? didnt get what ur means buddy..
There are just a few I personally have tested which doesn't seem to slow down the phone as much as others.
- Starfield 2D
- Solar Wind
- Pixel Rain
- Nexus Like Live Wallpaper
There are probably more out there, but, with the above 4, slowdown is minimal, atleast for me.
ok last question here..
what is the different between rooted and unrooted wildfire..also the advantage of doing this root things :S
Advantages are potentially plenty. You can:
- Install Custom ROMs, including ones with Android 2.3.5
- Remove System Apps from ROMs you dont need
- Live Wallpaper Support
- Proper Apps2SD Support
- Many Root only apps like Titanium Backup (App Backup), SetCPU (Overclock CPU) etc.
In a nutshell, thats about it. There are quite a few more, but I'll keep my post short.
Obviously, none of the above things can be done without rooting your device.
ok many2 thx to u @3xeno..
do u think this stuff easy to do for a novice like me? i really wanna do it..but afraid will broke my wildfire >.<
I would say yes. Everyone is a novice when they start off, so, don't worry about it.
Besides, I would say the process is pretty safe (and easy - Its literally 1 click. I remember the process when Symbian S60 V3 had to be hacked. It needed a digitally signed certificate from an authority!) as well. Haven't seen any brick reports yet. Further, everything is reversible, so you shouldn't have issues claiming warranty in the future if the need arises.

Cyanogenmod 7 is an 2.3.5. AOSP (android open source project) Rom, very fast and stable but it has no sense UI
Edit:It has some problems with GPS and Bluetooth file transfer but i think that can be resolved by flashing a new radio image

Well I don't know, because when I flashed it i didn't notice any problems except for the Bluetooth. But It's not the same for every phone.
Anyways no major problems, and I recommend that you do a nandroid backup before you flash any Rom just in case something goes wrong.

ROM download issues

Hello,
I have a Dell 5 that I had left in the junk pile after dropping it and cracking it's screen until I found out how to replace the screen. I am onto a new phone now, but I would like to reuse the phone as a wifi only tablet for my kids.
I have rooted it and installed the cwm recovery. Now I am trying to work on getting a new custom ROM onto it, but I am having a few issues. First, there are a LOT of roms listed on the rom sheet with little information on what the differences are. Second, when I click on the links for the various roms that seem like they might be a good choice, it appears that none of the pages exist any more.
I am looking for a clean ROM, where reliability and clean performance are the main concerns. Fancy stuff is not required.
Thanks for any help!
look on the dev section for a Rom called DSC v 1.4 , it has around 5000 posts but the first 2 posts have all the info you need to install the Rom properly, I don't know any other Rom that can come close to it.
you will thank me later for this advice.

you can also try longhorn 2.7 for starters ...
dsc > gb v2.3.3
longhorn > gb 2.3.7
for dsc... go for 1.0 first and once you get the hold of it.. go for 1.4

Hey guys I have a Nokia lumia 620 & love it but unfortunately the power button has stopped working so it needs to go for repair. Not had chance to have it sent yet, being an adult & working full time etc.
I have my old, loved hd2 sat doing nothing, currently has an android rom on the Nand but it has run wp7 in the past.
My question is, is there an "easy" way to flash a WP rom to it? Like an all In One toolkit I can just use to flash it tonight? I could leave it at android but I'd much prefer to have windows on it, I just don't have the spare time & energy to go through all the learning process of what to flash when & where, just to use it for a month or so as a temp phone.
I know this is a bit of a daft request, I'm being a lazybones but I've worked 11 hours today, my back hurts and I have a headache!
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Or am I better just using android for a month? Even if someone could just simplify the steps for me, I am capable of following ROM flashing instructions, I just have to get "into" it if that makes sense.
Thanks.
