Google and Motorola and AT&T have partnered to bring quick and latest updates to the Atrix for 18 months past release date! That means we'll be getting all os updates between now Sept. 2012!
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
In 18 months this phone is going to hopelessly old and outdated, no matter what software the release.
And I think that statement refereed to new phones.
There's another thread talking about this already. The answer is that it's not guaranteed. This only applies to NEW devices being released. Since the Atrix was release a couple of months back, this doesn't apply.
In 18 months it will be running the same version as brand new devices released during that time.

NOT TRUE! Watch it again, he said "..all new phones..". I would assume that means from today on out. They also used the words "hardware has to allow the update". So speculate all you want but dont post incorrect statements like they are fact.
Yeah I started my post, had to run and didn't know there was a similar post before I hit submit.
New and capable...atrix fits that bill.

http://briefmobile.com/android-ice-cream-sandwich-unites-phones-and-tablets-in-q4-2011
No. The Atrix doesn't. Is it capable? Probably, but it's definitely not new i.e. new and capable vs. new OR capable.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/10/google-clarifies-18-month-android-upgrade-program-details-far-f/
Here's an updated Engadget article. If you notice they specifically mention that this applies to new devices only. There's no guarantee ICS for the Atrix, unless Moto comes out and says it. Anyway, more clarification on this subject would be great.

Theres no reason to worry if we get it or not. If we do then great. But why are we worrying about this when we havnt even gotten gingerbread. I'll be happy with a dual core friendly OS. By the time ICS is ready we will all be upgrading or upgraded already.

I'd be willing to bet 2.3 hits early to mid June. Not known fact but given the quickness they've already released updates for the Atrix, they really have little reason to hold out on this.

Would you be referring to 2.3 Gingerbread or ICS? Although google never gave ICS an official number (AFAIK), for all we know it'll be 2.3.X. If your referring to Gingerbread, that would make sense, in theory, but as Moto got Honeycomb early, for all we know they could have gotten ICS before Google oficially announced it and they could be putting the final touches on it right now. But that is all hopeful speculation.
More likely than not we'll get ICS around July to August.
Just my 2 cents.

I bet I can have 2 kids with the same woman before we get 2 updates to the core android os.
God I hate all the naysayers always trying to be negitive. There is a very good chance that this will apply to us.
I think Atrix does fit the bill. When the SGS2 arrives on ATT ...that would be a "new" release. Does that mean GS2's hardware is that much newer than the Atrix? If the SGS2 gets these updates...I'm sure the Atrix will too...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I wouldn't get too excited. They don't even know how they are going to accomplish this yet. It's nice to see an effort from carriers and Google, but this is just something they threw together to present at I/O. There are no details.

Atrix hardware will clearly support it. There will be newer phones released in the next 6 months...and pretty sure the hardware won't be better than the Atrix. How many dual cores are on the market now? Moto set the bar with Atrix...upcoming phones are trying to match it or make it look "better" by overlooking their chips

Normally I roll my eyes at these threads.. but.. whatever, anyways
I am on a friends employee plan, meaning I get an upgrade once a year.. that upgrade is dec 26th.. and I don't kno what to do.. the epic was the first phone I got on his plan.. it was my first smartphone.. ive learned a buttload about android, flashing, etc.
I was thinking I was going to wait for the galaxy nexus to use the upgrade.. but as my upgrade approaches I'm getting an itchy trigger finger on the gs2..
I'm starting to lean more towards just waiting til next december for the galaxy nexus.. what do u guys think?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
First make sure the plan doesn't change to 20 months after this upgrade since Sprint is eliminating a lot of upgrade eligibilities. The GS2 is a great phone. So if you don't want to hold out until the LTE phones come out with quad cores in the summer then go for it.
Hm I wonder if that applies to the employee plans.. ill have to check.. if I am set to get another upgrade next december I think I'm going to do it.. I doubt minneapolis would be fully up and running with lte until then anyways

NOW is that finger so itchy? LOL. I could have upgraded at Radio Shack because of an error in their system but didn't because the Epic is awesome for one, can't live without the keyboard for 2, and then didn't want to be stuck with WiMax for 20 more months.
That 20 month news spread the metaphorical preparation h on my trigger finger.. I don't kno that I would want to be on a wimax phone for over a year after lte hits..

I'd wait too... Like Kenny said quads are coming. LTE is coming. And if you can wait a little longer into late next year you might be able to get a handset with CDMA on 700Mhz band (recovered Nextel iDEN spectrum) with much improved coverage along with the quad-core handset with LTE 4G. (though it could be 2013 by the time handsets and network are ready for that)
20 month upgrade cycles sucks but you have an Epic with lots of dev activity and the potential to get ICS via CM. I'm sticking with it for another year in all likelyhood... save up some cash and wait for a CDMA/LTE Android flagship device that will keep me cool for a minimum of 20 months.
I'm going to wait.. I've been waiting so long for official cm7.. I'm not jumping ship just yet.. plus the epic community is the shiz..

I have an upgrade available on January 1st and I've had the same problem. I want to use the upgrade because it THERE! I thought about the E4GT, but it's another TouchWiz phone. Then I thought about maybe if/when the Galaxy Nexus comes to Sprint, but then there are quad cores coming out shortly after that! Who's to say Sprint will get those right away? Such is the life of a techie...

Quadcore lte qwerty?! For me I would add aosp and samsung hardware to that.. but that's wishful thinking.
I'm willing to trade the keyboard for a 4.5in or above screen.. I would prefer aosp, but honestly I would probably settle for tw.. as I'm just going to flash a rom that removes the garbage anyways..
Is the quadcore going to be similar to what some dual core phones are now? The software doesn't support the processor so it really is just 1 core?

I think I have a soft spot for the best devices coming from CES. I got the Atrix on release day because it looked like the nicest phone coming out. i agree, it was slow at first, but i gotta say, all these new phones coming out, this is the first one to me that actually feels like an upgrade. i really injoyed/injoy my atrix.
As a point of reference the Atrix 4g received FCC approval about this same time last year and was released the last week of Feb. Pre-orders for it started in the 1st half of Feb.
They are starting to get the promotional items for it now at the att store. so look for a release at the end of February. Its also on the att site for early 2012.

I just saw that last night! Lol
Sooo...I sent this to BGR, but they wouldn't run it without me handing over the proof, but that's not something I'm willing to do, so I'll reiterate here:
Our Playbook that came out on Wednesday shows two interesting things in the Calendar of upcoming things:
On the 12th of April, it's listed that Planogram materials (merchandise and advertising stuff) for a 4/15 launch will be arriving in stores. On the 15th, it lists that all POG materials need to be deployed by store opening.
The Playbook never mentions what is launching on the 15th, but they very conveniently slipped the dates in there without saying anything. Considering the galaxy nexus data storm contest ends on the 16th, its safe to say that the 15th can be confirmed as the release date for the galaxy nexus.

I think it (well for me anyway) depends on the specs. If they're the same as the GNex on VZW, I'll more than likely pass. However, if they're slightly upgraded, then I may take a serious look at it. I too have had an upgrade for about 13 months now, so I'm just waiting on either the GNex or the SGSIII.

Just Saturdays I think, to replace the regular anime block. I wish they would have just moved the reg .anime block to Friday and have Toonami on Saturday because I like Full Metal Alchemist, Bleach, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Durarara!!, and Cowboy Bebop to much =/ although Gundam Wing, Dragon Ball Z and Tom 3.0 make up for it.

Toonami Wiki said:
April Fool's Day 2012
On April 1, 2012, just past Toonami's 15th anniversary, Adult Swim replaced itself with the third version of Toonami, [6] featuring Tom 3.0, initially disguised as an airing of Tommy Wiseau's The Room. The channel guide did not reflect the changes, as is typical of Adult Swim's April Fools' jokes. It is still unclear whether this was a permanent change or merely a stung for April Fool's Day. Several classic shows were aired from the original lineup, with a special focus on climactic episodes, season finales, or final episodes. The shows, order aired, and episodes: Dragon Ball Z #191, Gundam Wing #10, Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki #19, Outlaw Star #25, Big O #1, Yu Yu Hakusho #110, Blue Submarine #6 #1, Trigun #23, the original Astro Boy #1, and Gigantor #1. [7] Tom also did a brand new bumper for the new episode of Bleach, plus a next episode preview. Some of the episodes shown were never broadcast on the original Toonami.
The revival featured original bumps performed by Steven Blum as Tom, and the classic promo, Dreams. There was an original game review of Mass Effect 3, giving the game an 8.5/10 while criticizing the ending for being "weak." Also done were original advertisements for DVDs of each of the animes shown in a more adult tone, such as Tom referring to the song "99 Problems" when discussing the Tenchi Muyo! DVD, encouraging the viewer to enjoy more nudity and violence with the Outlaw Star DVD, and describing the Big O DVD release with "Our giant robot can beat the crap out of your giant robot."
