I find it funny that after the Shift has been named EOL and put on the list for not getting ICS that there seems to have been an explosion of development. It seems there is something new in the development section every day for the past two weeks. It's awesome. And I would just like to personally thank everyone who had contributed to development on the Shift... This is my first Android phone and I am amazed by the work you guys do. Thank you all four making my phone run better, faster, and more fun... Long Live The Shift!

Yeah but you and I both knoww that the processor in the shift is really 1.2 ghz. Htc and sprint had to underclock it so it wouldn't piss all over the og evo... And what's the point of a dual core? There aren't a lot of apps that utilize the second core, and if I'm not mistaken, isn't the 3d's second core pretty much used up by the gimmicky 3d? The shift went almost a year and a half before eol, the 3d is already there a mere 6 months after release. I'm hoping htc releases one last slider, with the sensation/doubleshot processor or a qualcomm s3 processor, a f.f.c., and world phone capabilities. Those are just my hopes, and since my headphone jack took a $hit on me today, it couldn't come soon enough!

1.2 gHz . With that kernel you did I was able to hit 1.996 gHz ondemand . Ran the crap out of it, but honestly what's the use of running it that high. Plus it got a little warm . SO I figured no need to push my luck. Once again drob thanks the kernel is Bad A$$ . Shift till the parts run out .

Honestly man the s3 isn't much to boast about, I'm not even impressed with it at 1.5. Yeah It's dual core, but I have yet to notice that I'm even running a dual core device. My speedy will keep up and run apps just as fast as my doubleshot. Yeah I benchmark 2k better but in real world usage I still think the shift has been the most dominant device I've ever used.

It's going to be tough "replacing" the Shift once my upgrade arrives (Nov) plus the Shift Community is the best ever!!!
dual core phones are actually pretty quick but agreed the shift does compete very closely with them but the issue imo is the dual core saves a lot of battery power and the ram is the biggest thing for me most of those dual cores have a gig of ram whitch was a big deal for me..
I'm just hoping my Shift can hold out long enough for HTC to release something I'm excited about... And can afford, on Sprint... Damn it might be awhile
with a keyboard probably a while however the evo lte looks pretty nice..probably where i am swtiching but i am looking to see if we could ever get quad core in the next couple of months i always upgrade at the wrong time..
I'm not too worried about a slider, I don't think anyone is gonna make them anymore, which sucks but it is reality... We might get a quad core if Crapple quits holding up phones in customs
I have still got about a year before I can upgrade, maybe some new technology will come out so phones don't have to be 5".. I love the size of my Shift personally, I can do everything with one hand (except the hardware keyboard) and I can carry it in my pocket and still be able to bend over without fear of snapping it in half
I could give a damn about dual or quad cores... Whatever makes my phone battery last the longest with HEAVY use... I travel a lot!
I sure wish they would make another slider. The only reason I got the shift was because my touch pro 1 fell apart, I stole parts from my wife's TP (after she got an og evo) and after another year of use my TP fell apart again. I rode that ***** until the wheels fell off! I miss that phone...
Anyway, love my shift though. LOVE a keyboard. Love metal parts in my phone because I'm hard on them with all of the travel. (Not like the epic)
Yep... This shift has treated me right. Good times and bad. I still remember when I first joined this community... Haha... But my upgrade is in a few months (novish) and I love the HW keyboard. I definitely use it. but the amount of times I use it... It's not a lot. I was thinking the EVO LTE if sprints LTE network proves to be good... If not I'm considering jumping ship to Verizon.
Shifted from Outer Space
Hell the shifts 800mhz was a beast and really it was the GPU inside of it that was nice. But the 3vos s3 is a nice upgrade and runs sense 3.0 (3.6 now) way faster than even the fantastic devs here were able to do. Btw I got around to trying your kernel on the old shift drob! Wonderful job! Ran great!
But now the new evos out and smokes everything :-( lol

Yep I only have 7 years under my belt, because of that I have no clue what will be next.....next is sept 2012 lol.... it wont be an sgs2 unless I really have to have it and can shell out the extra 75 bucks in nov. I know for sure I made a good choice tho, my epic will still stand tall for another 12+ months, I'm enjoying the ride anyhow.
Side note, I'm not so sure the mali400 gpu that's in the sgs2 is anything great, unless its only running one gpu core at the moment, which means samsung will have to update it later....cough never. I want a phone with a powerful gpu and am hoping for sgx-543 or better.

For me it depends if we get the sexy thin version I keep seeing or a softer cartoonish body like the Epic. I don't want a hard keyboard or the thicker shell that comes with it. I want a gorgeous phone next time. The Epic is already plenty functional so only sexy AND functional will ever get me to upgrade.
..But I'll still have a year in my contract by the time it comes out
Wait..Does this thing have a Tegra 2?

I totally agree. Samsung would have hit a homerun with the Epic had they given it some harder corners and a little more heft but if the GSII comes in some professional packaging I may seriously consider it.
The dual core processor isn't going to make it that much speedier. Sure it will let you listen to music, browse the web, and play games at the same time. But actual game performance won't be that much improved. Just as it was with PCs and multiple cores.
Not Getting the GS2 AT ALL!!
im Getting the Evo 3D
why you ask? Looks like neither will have keyboards and the Evo gets all the Dev love.
Plus 1.2 Dual core ... i don't need more than that these processors are sooo overclockable its crazy...
Also i think alot of people will never buy Samsung again so its Dev community will even be smaller....
My current Hummingbird is handling everything fine. I'd just like a more attractive form and a larger screen. I'm a fan of face tablet phones I think 4.3" is the sweet spot.

Name the era. Of course a 2010 2.1ghz is going to blow away a 2006 2.1ghz. The refinement isn't the cores, but how much the processor can do with a single clock.
2006 dual cores were no faster than 2006 single cores, except for multi-tasking.
Just as quad cores in 2009-2010 had little benefit over their dual core counterparts, unless you are doing video encoding or 3d rendering via blender or maya.

you'll barely notice the speed difference in the Evo3d or The GS2 compared to the Epic right now... but it will make a HUGE difference overall like the battery life and other thingys
Here's a preview of the international version of the Galaxy S II. The 8 megapixel camera is the best they have ever seen and can record 1080p video with full 30 fps! I hope for the Sprint version they leave out the keyboard and put in an even bigger battery (already a solid 1650mah). I'll take this over the HTC Evo 3d. 3d is such a silly gimmick.
Check this out. A older video but shows that we arent always the ones that gets the ports from things like the EVO.

You know miks evo rom is actually the shift rom too right, because when the evo got gingerbread it was only sense 1 shift got sense 2 and the 3D got sense 3, so in my eyes just looking at the type of update the phones got, they already felt the shift was a better performer than evo which in most if not all cases is true, imo the shift gets side stepped because people feel its the bastard child of the original all because of a lower processor speed, which means nothing when you look at the performance it brings, second gen really helped us out with a newer gpu chipset adreno 205 where the evo only has the adreno 200, anyways i wished people would open their eyes to this phone

Yea, my sprint buddy originally told me i was foolish for gettin this phone that the evo was better... Bah
I explained to him that this cpu was nextgen, by being developed on a smaller process we dont require the clock speed for good performance.
Also the smaller process the chips are manufactured on increase battery life tremendously.
How about when the 32 nm intel atoms came out. Instantly we had portable pcs that ran xp phenominally and with a battery life of almost 12 hrs with heavy use.

If I can get an epic touch 1800 mah battery (assuming it will fit vibrant) I am gonna hold on this phone for one more year. The fact is if you are not into gaming on your phone or play 1080p to your HDTV, vibrant does pretty much everything so well with a smooth voodoo enabled froyo ROM. It very well holds upto any dual core phone in day to day functionalities as a smart phone. I am even afraid going to another phone will be a downgrade in terms of screen quality and audio quality as a music player (voodoo sound + power amp + 16 GB storage)

Hercules:
1. Has a Super AMOLED+ Display, which is superior to the 1st gen SAMOLED displays (No Pen-Tile, Bettery Battery Life, etc.)
2. Dual Core Processor which can save power, and generally offers better performance - just one of it's cores is faster than ours and even back when teh Vibrant/G2 was released the Scorpion CPU was faster than the Hummingbird. The Hummingbird just had a much better GPU integrated into it.
3. HSPA+ radio
4. Double the RAM of the Vibrant, which is actually more than double when you factor in the RAM dedicated to the GPU. So more like ~110% More System/App-accessible RAM (since the GPU RAM dedicated didn't change AFAICT).
5. 10% bigger battery
6. Better Camera/Camcorder, with LED Flash
7. 2 MegaPixel Front-Facing Camera
8. Wi-Fi Direct, USB On the Go (Not Sure if in US Variants)
9. Actually a factorable level of support from the carriers and OEMs at least for another year+, especially those who stick very close to the international specs (Hercules dubious here)
It's not just about the CPU. That's actually not the first thing to bottleneck in these phones, unless you're doing something specifically to tax it heavily. GPU, RAM, and I/O for example will all bottleneck before the CPU in real-world use.

Even when Quad Core phones come out, there will be a better one 4 months later. It's the nature of the beast.
And people said the same about Dual Core processors. They'll say the same thing about 20 core processors in 5 years or whatever time it takes for them to come out, as well...

No? EXACTLY.
The specs make it sound like a amazing phone.
The Vibrant sounded amazing too! It is amazing, but it did have flaws, and i'm sure other phones will follow. They may not be the SAME flaw, but they will come.

Most of improvements are minor the only thing that would make me wanna switch is the ram an flash an maybe gps only two things that make me mad about phone but i wouldnt say its stupid to upgrade but not best choice an i used sensation which i think is same cpu as herc an it was a little slow i know it has sense which is ram hog but it had 300+

Sorry bout your luck sad to see u move from a great phone to a waste of HTCs talent, I ditched my 3d after 3 days for a photon, got stuck with the photon and ended up adding a 5th line to get the SGS2. The SGS2 is a wonderful device but I wasn't a fan so I gave it to my dad and stuck with my OG til something better comes out. Personally id like a device same size as my evo with the exynos 1.5 ghz dual core and 2 - 4 gig of ram preferably 4, as the RAM is what really powers performance and not so much the processor in a phone. Screenwise is like 4.3 - 4.5" in samoled as the amoleds save a lot of power and look really nice color wise. Id also love a aluminum housing like ob the tbolt as the housing alone helps with heat distribution/dissipation.

Agreed. Never had a Samsung phone but willing to try. I would like to learn how to use ODIN.

i had the sII for 6 months since launch day. ODIN is fantastic. its so easy to odin back to stock or odin root. "soft-bricks" are a thing of the past

My only fear is that it will take 4-5 months to come to Sprint.

int'l gs2 --> e4gt cannot be considered butchered. it was bigger with a better battery and the camera is vertical instead of horizontal (which looks even better imo). the only thing is that it lost the physical button, still hardly considered butchered. i wouldnt lose faith.
it was delayed last year because of the all the apple lawsuit's, wasnt it? it could come sooner than 4-5 months this time around

It was more a joke than not. And both of the Galaxy 'variants' were 'late,' if I recall correctly. The first, the Epic, was a drastic change. I suppose it wasn't even that much of a negative as some embraced the HKB.
I suppose a "JK" should have been appended.

if you want to compare back to the OG epic then the trend from og epic > e4gt > s3 suggests Samsung is getting better with sticking to their original design, but only time will tell. competition is constantly raising the bar. Samsung cant afford to drop the ball on this one
I'd agree with that. But it wasn't a direct knock on Sammy. It was, again, a joke. More so on Sprint's part than anyone. And was concerning the recent Evo news over anything else.
*sigh*
Point missed. No big deal. Continue on.

my b bro. just having a little fun
It's all good.
Definitely interested in seeing what is what with the SGSIII.
Sgs3 is rumored to have a 16mp rear camera and a 3mp ffc with a 4.8" super amoled + screen the only bad thing is I think they are rumored to stick with 1gb of RAM and I'd rather see 2gb of RAM with a 2.2ghz dualcore and a dualcore GPU instead of the quadcore personally, really don't see a point in a quadcore in a phone. My dualcore in my et4g is plenty fast and if it had more ram and a slightly better gpu it would be one beast of a device. I honestly think the whole quadcore thing is all for bragging rights and has no real world functionality at this time, I mean what the hell are you going to do with a phone that needs 4cores for processing, unless its going to have 2 cores dedicated to graphics, really no point

Man if those specs are real I figure this phone will start at the $300 level. I'll place my pre-order on the E4G LTE but that phone would be to slick to pass up. But with a May 22th announcement and the always delayed release in the US I may not be willing to wait. I'm sure the E4G LTE will handle all my needs for two years. Plus with that case design should it be real, I don't see that battery being removable either as it would break the whole vibe.

same. i'm gonna put a preorder for the E4G LTE because it is still one hell of a phone and i really cant afford (time and money) to worry about getting the newest, bestest phone in the world for a couple weeks before something better is announced.
I'm going to wait til May 22nd before I go all in on on the EVO LTE
