Hi guys. I have been reading about the new ICS kernel bugs and I am getting pretty frightened. I have the German official ICS with kernel XXLPY that is currently affected and I want to revert back to GB to flash Cyanogenmod instead.
Is there any guide on how to revert without using any ondevice flashing methods? I do want the kernel and everything to change aswell.
You have to first flash a secure GB kernel with odin (Abyssnote is fine) Then you restart your note in recovery mode (don't try to boot ICS with that kernel!!! Do your wipes, power off, restart in download mode then flash entire GB rom with Odin.
Or you can wait a few days until Enropy512 have a look on Sammy's ICS sources.
I was on Rocket rom v1 based on PLY and i roll back to GB and again to ICS Paranoid Androidthis based on CM9 this way with sukcess
1. i flash stock rom KJ4 with odin
2. after reboot i reboot again into stock recovery (vol up+power+home)
3. do a wipe and reboot
4. root KJ4 with instructions on XDA
5. reboot into recovery and full wipe
6. i flashed Paranoid Android CM9 and reboot into recovery (in CWM recovery Adwenced->reboot into recovery)
7. full wipe again in recovery on CM9 kernel
8. reboot and done
9. Waiting for safe ICS based on official
Dangerous way
It's safer to flash only GB kernel first because actualy, flashing a complete rom while on ICS kernel may affect emmc during flash.

That thread is the exact reason why I am confused. Bunch of ppl posting different guides saying the other guides are dangerous...
What I wanted to do:
I am on i9220 leak
Flash abyssnote zimage with mobile odin(or pc odin??)
Boot into recovery directly
Wipe
Boot into download mode
Flash pre rooted LC2 rom with PC odin
Flash CM9
Now tell me please what is wrong with these steps as I cannot seem to be able to find a coherent guide anywhere.
It look fine, the most important is to start by flashing only a safe GB kernel BEFORE doing anything else and don't do any wipe while on LPY.
Of course the phone wont boot unless on recovery and download modes but you don't need anything else to flash a new rom
By doing that, any wipe (partition format during flash process) will be made safely by GB kernel.

Does this increase the Flash Counter and i get the triangle?
When i started rooting and flashing on my note, that was the state of the art.
Since then, Odin on PC is a "No No" for me
So is there any way now to prevent the flashcounter and the triangle?
You can do it with mobile odin, it wont trigger the counter.
Anyway the triangle can be removed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354888

This is not the way to do it. This method can definitely cause problems as Etropy512 mentioned further down in that thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26241235&postcount=40
bro... my personal experience...
first flash gb rom with pc odin(until then DO NOT wipe anything)
only then enter the stock recovery and wipe everything
then root ur phone and installcmw
then go to cmw
flash abyss 4.2 redpill
restart recovery
then flash paranoid rom
just flash any gb rom through pc/mobile odin from this thread brother
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025
Or if you want to go to CM9 - follow the instructions in the first post of xplod's CM9 discussion thread (INCLUDING flashing the safe kernel that is attached using PC Odin/Heimdall before flashing anything else).
Use TriangleAway afterwards.
Hopefully by the end of the weekend I'll have the compatibility problems between DAFUQ and XXLPY/DXLP9/ZSLPF fixed.

Hi guys, I think I soft bricked a galaxy note, this is the things I did (I was trying to install ICS Stunner)
It came with the kernel KK8 that is non rootable, so I downgrade it to KJ1 (SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS) and it worked fine.
Flashed the Abyss kernel (AbyssNotekernel42CWTouchCustomLogo) via CWM and rebooted again to recovery
Flashed ICS Stunner (ICS_Stunner_Beta5.0) via CWM and FORGOT to wipe data/cache so it got in a boot loop
Booted again to CWM and wiped data/cache and still the rom wouldn't boot, so I decided to flash again the rom
The rom wouldn't flash via CWM I mean I selected the zip but the process wouldn't advance, same with the abyss kernel
So decided to start all over again and reflashed KJ1 via Odin (it was sucessfull), but now stock rom won't boot, if I shut down the phone and connect the charger the battery animation stays emtpy, I mean no green bar filling or nothing
The device can get to download mode, but I don't know what to do now, reflash another stock rom?
flash with heimdall?
If anyone can help it would appreciate.
Oh by the way, all this stuff was with the battery at like 20% (I know, pretty stupid)
You lost root during the process. Can you go again in download mode and flash with pc odin stock gb rom?
try this one 3*Files Wipe N7000XXLC1_N7000OXALC1 Open Europe (02/03/2012) from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23357737&postcount=1
if the flash is succesfull you may go in boot loop.remove the battery put it again in,with volume up+home+power go to stock recovery and do wipe cache and wipe data/factory reset .reboot

Actually yes (this is the method i prefer) but he followed the instructions
"NEW STEPS BETA 4.3 ONWARDS:
Backup data apps.
Download and copy latest Stunner ROM on your SD Card.
Make sure you are on Rooted ROM. Reboot in recovery.
ONLY IF YOU ARE ON GINGERBREAD: Flash Abyss Kernel. Goto Advanced and Reboot Recovery.
Wipe Data (Recommended but not mandatory if you on Stunner ROM already)
Flash ROM.
Flash suitable Modem (Optional, recommended ICS LP5 modem)(not included in ROM)
Reboot and Read Caution.
Do not restore system apps or system data."
one think that may brake the procedure is he may come from a not properly rooted gb rom.I always mount system and always copy-paste some test files to /system in order to be sure sure that i did not lost root.I hope to solve your problem
i had the same issue two days ago nothing serious tried wiping factory but each and every move got the process stock at the beginning so at last i got it charged about 60% then went to download mode and flashed a GB ROM (STOCK) after all with the stock packages odin doesn't inscrease flash count so not to worry just get it to work again and next time wipe cache (preferable factory reset too) i recommend this step, then flash a repack LP1 of Chainfire to get things moving wouldn't take too long with a 90% power you can do all of these steps without any problem dont be paranoid......
oh god this -> Rooted_Stock_Odex_N7000XXLC1 saved me, thanx guys, the phone has booted, I have a captivate and never had this kind of issues the GNote its not even mine.
So just to know, for ics stunner 5 I need to flash first the ics repack
Yep. If you're properly rooted (and with that pre-rooted rom you are) then just install CWM recovery and Mobile Odin, flash the ICS repack, reboot to recovery, flash Stunner and then wipe data/cache/Dalvik, reboot and you should be good to go.
stunner 5.0 beta
what a rum the best is the Stunner beta 5.0 LP6_Kernel_repack may recommend a different kernel is not as happy with a repack

My method,
- reflashed CWM,
- flashed AbyssNote 4.2 kernel
- reboot recovery
- flashed GB custom rom
- full wipe
i don't know if this is the correct way to test new samsung bootloader. and i managed to go back to GB checkrom v6 successfully. Try at you own risk!

Shorter + safer guide:
1) Download Odin
2) Download stock GB firmware
3) Boot Note into Download mode
4) Flash firmware with Odin
5) ???
6) Profit.
Assuming you flash a rootable firmware, you can then root it and then install a custom firmware afterwards.
Flashing/wiping _anything_ from a LPx kernel has a chance of a superbrick. Use PC Odin go to back to a GB kernel.

I was on lpy stock no root.
I used pc odin and flashed one of the old kk9 roms. (single file no changes to the checkboxes).
After 1st boot there were lots of fc errors. (because it does not wipe the data) I booted in stock recovery and did a wipe cache and factory reset.
When it booted ok I did another factory reset from the privacy menu.
Finally I flashed the lc1 gb rom with pc odin (single file no changes to the check boxes)
I will stay on Lc1 untill the next official ics rom comes...

4- Wipe Caches and Dalvik only!!!
5- Flash GB ROM
6- Now FullWipe!!!
6- Reboot system

When to flash GB rom, wat is need to have steps 1 to 4? any specific reason?
I don't see the sense in such a complicated procedure. Reverting back to gb is easy, you cannot brick your phone if you're not that stupid to begin with a wipe while still on ics.
There are only 2 - 3 steps to take, depending on which tool you use and whether you want to keep root or not.
Variant mobile odin, keep root:
1. Flash any gb rom, tick everroot, inject supersu, inject mobile odin
2. Flash a cf-root or custom kernel
3. Boot into cwm recovery, wipe cache, dalvik cache and data
Done
Variant pc odin keep root:
1. Flash one of the prerooted stock gb roms
2. Use the tool chainfire provides in his cf-root thread to flash the cf-root kernel
3. Boot into cwm recovery, wipe cache, dalvik cache and data
Done
4. Only necessary if you want to flash a custom kernel, transfer the kernel to your sd card, boot into cwm recovery, flash kernel
Variant pc odin without root:
1. Flash any stock gb rom using pc odin
2. Reset your device to factory defaults
What's so complicated with those procedures? No chance to brick your note (apart from the slight risk that is always there when messing with root, roms and kernels).

what is the difference between CWM 5.5.0.4 and 5.8.3.1. Why ROM manager installed CWM 5.8.3.1 in Galaxy Tab P7500 while taking backup, though CWM 5.5.04 was already installed using ODIN I.85. Is it necessary to re install CWM 5.5.0.4. If so, how to re install CWM 5.5.0.4. My galaxy TAB P7500 is running on stock ICS 4.04.
Only a few changes are made(you can't even say where)from 5.5.0.4 to 5.8.3.1...
The ROMmanager must make sure that the CWM on your device matches with the version of the APP,but upgrading does no harm i.e. it's no need to reinstall CWM...
Beware!don't go into CWM if you are on the stock ICS because it has the rolling screen issue, flash all you need with ROMmanager, don't install CWM touch when you are using stock ICS(it'll be a waste of time, mony, etc)
If you want to get out of CWM(5.5.0.4) after flashing but get confused with the rolling screen just do thisress vol down and then press the power button twice...the tab restarts with all the changes you've made...
And finally:feel free to ask questions,XDA in always here to help you!

I'm using CWM 5.5.0.4 here with stock ICS. No problems at all.
5.5.0.4 is the version recommended to prevent rolling recovery.
I also followed pershoot's advice in the 2.6.36.4 thread. I did get the rolling recovery even with 5.5.0.4.
I am on stock US ICS and odined the following:
(1) US ICS 4.0.4 BL variant
(2) Recommended recovery (CWM non touch 6.0.1.2)
Now I have no flicker in the recovery or the ROM like I had experienced in the past. However, I'm rather way of CWM 6.0.1.2 because I used the previous non-touch (6.0.1.1 I think) and wasn't able to restore a Nandroid...it just hung on me. Where did you get the 5.5.0.4 that worked with stock ICS ROM/BL Jack?

Can't remember now where I got 5504, read so many guides.
I have it in my drop box.

You're welcome.
Good luck.
Thank you for your nice advice and assurance. Sir I have another question/doubt. Please clarify
I am having P7500 in India. I flashed Italian stock rom 4.04 using ODIN. Later rooted the Tab using CWM 5.5.4 method. subsequently I installed ROM Manager. I did back up. It appears that CWM version was changed by ROM manager. Now I want to flash Indian stock rom 4.04 recently released and also rooting. Please suggest a mode.
Download the stock IN firmware from Sammobile and flash in Odin with PDA with your tablet in download mode. You will lose everything on your internal storage so if you want to keep your backups make sure to move them off the tablet before you flash.
You'll find lots of guides in the Q&A and Dev sections that will provide root methods for your 4.0.4 stock firmware. Or, you can skip all of this and just flash a rooted ICS ROM with a full wipe to save yourself the steps. It's really up to you.
Thank you Sir for your valuable advice.
Please clarify, If I flash INU stock ROM 4.04 on ITLY stock ROM 4.04, using ODIN, will it wipe out applications data also?
Earlier When I flashed ITLY stock ROM 4.04 on my original stock ROM 3.2 INU on my galaxy tab p7500 using ODIN, it did not wipe out any data from internal storage and all the applications were automatically installed after reboot..
It may, it may not...it depends on whether or not you boot up after the flash without issues. If you get stuck on the Samsung logo or a boot loop, you will need to boot into stock Android recovery and do a factory reset, that would format your /data partition and result in loss of apps etc.
That Thanks button works well if I have helped you makes me look like less of a noob! Good luck to you

I recommend doing a full wipe with CWM recovery before flashing with ODIN. Doing that avoids having to do a full wipe with Stock recovery which wipes the internal. Wiping before flash should avoids formatted internal. Would others confirm, this is what I have noticed on my tab.
If that is all you want to do, just go to Phil3759's post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849737 (Many thanks to him) Tested and definitely works on Galaxy Note.

I have signed some files that make it possible for them to be flashed from STOCK ICS 3e recovery. (ie. boot into Stock recovery and select "apply update from external storage" and flash)
Download signed Abyss kernel and put it on your externel SD card. (It doesn't root your phone and has been proven safe over a long period of time)
Abyss Note RedPill Touch http://d-h.st/TZW
Now download latest LRQ ICS stock kernel http://d-h.st/EZH and also put it on external SD card.
OK lets start:
- If you are on non-rooted stock ICS and just want factory reset, flash Abyss from external storage and straight after that, do 3 finger salute (volume up + menu + power) to boot back into Abyss (remember it's GB so no point letting ICS boot up), and do wipes. (Why not do Nandoid backup while you are there? Just remember to flash LRQ kernel after restore)
Then flash LRQ kernel file and reboot. You are now on ICS with latest Stock kernel:good:
- If you want root with safe kernel go here http://forum.xda-developers.com /showthread.php?t=1789397 and download Universal or Touchwiz kernel of your choice and put on external SD. Flash Abyss, boot back into it and then flash custom kernel. You are now rooted with safe kernel
- If you want to try custom ROM (Any), do the following:- Flash Abyss, reboot into it and do factory reset, wipe cache and Dalvik cache. Now go to "mounts and storage", format/system, mount partitions that are not mounted and then flash ROM
Happy days and good flashing:laugh:
GB recovery
Hi, it is wonderful!, has it been tested to work in stock gingerbread?

I don't think Stock GB recovery allows for flashing of signed files. In any case GB is safe for wiping. If u want root, go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360

Sure have. About 7 or 8 times now. No problems at all
In fact I have just gone from stock LRQ to JellyCore and back to stock LRQ again.
ie; flash and boot into Abyss, do Nandroid backup, do wipes/system format, Flash JellyCore, play with it a bit, boot into recovery, wipe and format again with Abyss, do Nandroid restore, reflash LRQ kernel and reboot. Back on stock LRQ again. (even Samsung wouldn't know what I did)
