I just yesterday received my ICS upgrade to my galaxy note in india. .... Mixed feelings.... No major ui upgrade..... No my story app.... Just the new Snote app.... Face to unlock is good..... Browser is nice.... Buggy at times..... Same old widgets..... Anyway still not explored fully.....
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
how come you r baseband is LP4. i think there's an LP5 version also as per doc's post. keep updating us your findings. thanks
So the official ICS is out in India now? Is this through Kies or OTA? I am not seeing any available upgrade on my device.
its available both ways. might come soon for ur device as well.
Where is the Face to unlock option? I can't seem to find that option under the security tab.
Also can anyone tell what are the new things added with this upgrade(apart from Snote)?
setting - security - screen lock - select face unlock here
Only 36mb update here.
Still downloading.
No ICS yet....
ICS released on Kies only, OTA still GB LC1
OTA update was released for sometime....then again pulled back...I got an OTA notification (ICS 319.21 MB)....thot will update later....checked again...was gone..!!!
Still on GB
Little funny but does the facelock recognize you had a hair cut or clean shave?

Yaa it does...it even can save many faces to improve recognition...It actually has eyes, nose nd shape f the face detectors....therefore recognition is quite flawless as i feel...but the only problem is that u cannot use it in dark conditions....where's there is a workaround unlock using pattern or password etc...
ICS update done.
Great. I'm on ICS now.. Thanks
Got ICS too! Not so happy!
The slide to adjust brightness feature is gone ( when not using auto brightness ), i had this font call 'cool jazz' which was really good, which is gone too! any pointers to get it back?
guys tried updating my note to ics via kies ... it took so long and after reaching 100 percent it gave a message saying device not recognised..pls restart phone wen i did it was on ginger bread only..i am using win xp. my phone has never been rooted or anything ..
I did a reset before upgrading to ICS, and now my facebook birthdays dont show in the Samsung Calendar, anybody else also has this issue?
Calender entries intact
Hi, The calender entries are intact in my device...I think as you've had a reset you need to synchronise the facebook account with your device.
---------- Post added at 09:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:08 AM ----------
I received the ICS via OTA on Wednesday, 23rd May. I got the S-Note and Fac Unlock features but there is no My Story App. This app is not vailable in Samsung Apps as well and after the update I suppose the battery is draining a little faster than that of GB. The UI is smoother now. Samsung need to provide the advertised My Story app to the India users. BTW, the my story app .apk file is available somewhere in the web and can be installed in the device but that is not official.
awesome, my indian note in Australia receives it too!

Does i9000 international version support over the air updates? I use galaxy spica and connecting to pc kies to update the phone is buggy and tiresome...and so ota is important for me..and what other alternatives would u suggest to galaxy s..my friend uses htc legend and desire and I like the way htc releases bug fixes ota frequently..never seen bug fixes on samsung so frequently ...has it changed with i9000 ?also suggest me alternatives ..
EDIT: I ve read many topics with people returning their galaxy s because of annoying bugs in interface..should I get this phone?
Sent from my GT-I5700 using XDA App
The Galaxy S (International Version) does not support OTA updates. The option is missing from the settings, so I guess you will have to get official updates via KIES.
Personally I would be a candidate to be really upset about this, because OTA updates are very convenient and a Windows only software like KIES is very annoying when you are on Ubuntu.
But from my past experiences I think manually applying the 2-4 official updates that will be available for the device is probably not going to be a big deal.
Also, OTA updates are usually distributed over a period of weeks, while an ROM that you can find on a website can be flashed as soon as it is available.
i don't know if it supports ota or not but it's likely that this feature is missing because of the missing option in the settings (like already written above)
i can also only agree that i't very annoying that we are forced to use windows software to flash (odin/kies) as i am a linux-only user (as well). nevertheless i managed to get odin working with a windowsXP running on virtualbox (not OSE beause of USB support) in a ubuntu 10.04 guest os... i have flashed the new JM2 firmware yesterday and it worked quite well.
i also think that OTA is good for noob-users who don't know what "flashing a rom" means but for geeks like us it's more about flashing custom rom's from recovery (in the 10 month i had the htc magic i just installed 1-2 OTA but flashed a LOT of custom roms from the recovery)...
@bugs: i have the phone for about 10 days now and i had no problems with bugs so far. there are some problems (GPS and an occasional lag) but this are issues that will be fixed very soon. partly already with the JM2 firmware... everything else is really nice, so i can only recommend this device to you!
Thanks guys, support in this forum is excellent I flash my phone a lot too but I expected a little more from a high end device like galaxy s compared to my phone...
Edit:
1.Does galaxy s have a notification led light of some sort? On spica I miss a lot of emails and messages because I have to click a button to see for new messages and the phone isn't always in my pocket.. 2. Is the central key in galaxy s also a d-pad ?

Samsung officially releases the JI6 Manual update through KIES MINI FOR VIBRANT.
goo.gl/jiL4
The link has instructions and download link for Kies Mini.
This Kies version is specifically made for US Version Vibrant.
And this Kies right now supports only one function - To update to JI6. (looks like they wanted to make a point)
Well if this for real and it kind of looks like it, it makes sense to keep Samsung apps not compeating with a possible tmoble app store, it protects Tmobile's bandwidth with no Kies tethering and it would be possibly a better way to roll out Froyo in the future than an OTA.
Not mention the piece of bull turd Kies is as software. And the seemingly many peaple with OTA problems and those who just can't wait for an OTA.
Did Samsung and Tmobile do somthing good? Not sure.
Edit:
Follow all instructions and read threads!... and read threads! This list is from me reading threads, I am not a Mod, I am nobody. THIS NOT A COMPLETE LIST just some known issues:
1. It seems you need stock JFD firmware to update, some flashed mods seem to be no problem, but they will be lost. You can get them back but use JI6 version mods.
2. uninstall all lag fixes. NO UPDATES WORK WITH LAG FIXES!
3. You will likely loose root but can get it back.
4. Some have had to use Usb debugging mode or Kies mode to have phone recognized by Kies mini.
5. uninstall all previous Kies software. Before installing Kies Mini.
6. Some report if you use it, to switch from Launcher Pro to stock launcher for Kies to work properly.
7. And allways back up your stuff prior to doing anything like this.
Again, this is not a compleat list... just trying to answer the same questions over and over again.... SHEESH
Good luck,
Don

I just finished updating with this..
Samsung finally has answered our calls!!
I updated from Stock to JI6 in 5 minutes with just one button click.
Not only this is very easy, this comes from SAMSUNG...
Looks like even Samsung is fed up with T-Mobile... They don't want to spoil their phone's reputation any more and are taking things in their hand..
This is the kind of communication that should come from tmo or samsung. Sure this link is out there but it is not advertised publicly...hell I cant even get to that link from tmo or samsung...
Let's hope it doesn't have the same issue as the full Kies - Could not apply new firmware.
Tried running this on my Win 7 64bit box and Kies Mini just crashes every time. According to the site it only supports 32bit windows. Anyone had luck with 64bit box?
update: Tried it on my Win 7 Ult 64bit laptop and worked like a charm.
Just for grins, I tried this out after flashing back to stock. Worked perfectly on my Win7 Home Premimum 64bit. Haven't done any real testing but did a quick look for Slinbox and Fandango on Market and found both.
trying this now, I was unable to get kies to recognize my phone.

I could see them after an update but they were gone after installing something from the market. Can you still see them after installing something?
I wonder if they released this now to get everything worked out so we can update to 2.2 and avoid the hassle of waiting for OTA's in the future. It would be easier on us and them. Looks like a step in the right direction.
tornado76, I didn't install anything from market but I did install the lastest Market APK. As soon as I did that, couldn't find some apps.

Great! They released it today, and today is the day that I got the courage to update my phone through odin.
I hope that when froyo comes out they will do the same.

Arrived on mine too about a hour ago and I'm not impressed! Swiftkey and browsers are making it a mare to get them to work together, still having problems editing text boxes too - it still won't place the cursor where you press! Where the hell is ICS Samsung?
The OTA update failed for me, doing it via Kies now. Is it because I have rooted?
Downloaded and just installing now. Will let you know how it goes.
Just finished installing and everything seams fine. Should i do a factory reset people?
Installed through Kies and it worked. Lost root and CWM recovery but that's simple to get back. Now the wait for ICS begins lol
still odd behaviour even after a reboot, quick reply on this site doesn't work full stop! Anyone else got this?
Got the update last night, everything working for me fine. Bit annoyed Google Books is now preinstalled but I can live with it. I noticed Kobo Book reader was also installed so got rid of that and another couple of new apps i have never heard of.
Is it advisable to do a factory reset as others have suggested?
upgraded to 3.2 today
Thanks to this thread I saw the upgrade was available and just upgraded
I have looked for the upgrade regularily.. then stopped as i got bored of looking.
Interestingly I didn't get the over the air notification that it was avialable like I did for the last upgrade.
I'm on a Vodafone supplied GT7500
First impression after an hour : very minor functional changes, minor aesthetic changes, reasonable speed improvement.
I have a lot of background apps, adw launcher with 9 screens full of widgets so my tab was starting to get pretty laggy. Now its significantly better.
First post on xda -thanks to all those who have put info on here

Is there any advise on how to get the UK 3.2 update? .. I bought my P7500 Tab while in the US, and i think it eventually turned out to have a Brasilian rom on it.. At this moment of time I have P7500XWKK4

Download the latest official p7500XX firmware (not sure which is the latest official) from here and use odin to flash. Do a factory reset after flashing.
Download the CSC Select app off the Market after flashing and choose XEU. This will also factory reset your device so dont customise it yet and cancel any automatic market downloads.
This thread is about the p7510 as it has just received the 3.2 update whereas the p7500 has had 3.2 for a month or two.
Hope this helps

This was the first release of the 3.2 XEU for P7500 in the UK also.
My impressions after a full wipe:
1) The screen is noticably more sensitive and accurate.
2) Reader's Hub is included.
3) AllShare's included.
3) Loaded with a ton of apps and widgets the UI's a lot more fluid.
4) The UStrings stays on "desktop" once it's set.
5) The browser's less clunky
5) The page top/bottom bounce has been replaced with the blue glow.
6) The Gallery's different.
7) Minor cosmetic tweaks.

I have just done the over the air update, download was just under 100Mb and the update took about 1/2hour with the tablet turning off completely and me having to turn it on holding the power for a few seconds, then it sat at the Samsung logo for ages before eventually starting up.
Initial impressions are very good.
Much smoother, even when the free RAM is low
Haven't tried live wallpapers yet!
The Memo app is better for finger input, faster response, almost there
Sketchbook Pro drawing app is still a bit slow in drawing
AntiPaper is also slow at drawing, compared with Memo - weird
Browser is much improved, more accurate touch, smoother scrolling though still a bit of a rubber band in content catching up with my finger movements when scrolling
New update to Google Books but still no highlighting, definition, notes like they have in the Chrom Google Books App - I suppose it will come eventually
A few issues for me, can someone check these as I may have to root, titanium backup and factory reset...
The default Video Player doesn't open
Samsung Hub doesn't open and hangs
EDIT:
Last night the tab rebooted itself and since then the default Video Player has been operating as normal !!!
Just a warning to anyone who is using titanium. Copy all the folders you want to keep, including titanium, on your pc.
If you do a factory reset (recommended) after flashing, as I did yesterday, you will lose *everything* on your sdcard. I had an old backup from November on my pc, took me hours to bring everything back to date. And I lost all my progress on a couple of games.... *grumble*.
Otherwise I agree it's a definite improvement. And I liked how they finally fixed honeycomb bar, now it disappears nicely when watching videos, so I don't have to use an extra app as root to hide it.
It has also arrived in Norway
So , I just received an update an hour ago and successfully installed it. I was already on ICS before that, and I'd like to know what this update is about. Are there any fixes? do know where I can get a hold of their change log?
Thanks

HiYa from Scotland!!
It's early days, but I'm sure guys will be into 4.0.4 and find out exactly what's good and what isn't. Just one thing, don't factory re-set until we see positive news about the eMMc brick bug that affects the SGN running ICS

My galaxy note is running perfectly now, that means faster, and I dont' have to do all those tricks to get a deep sleep.
However, what I am about is this feature that I read somewhere. Too bad I was in a hurry that time, and didn't get a chance to save the link , but what it mentioned was that this "premium" version gave the capability where you can directly write into the s-note app, without the need to open the app. I am imagining that if you you have it on your main screen, you can directly write to it already, unlike before when it needed to open the app before you can do something.
Was these all true? or did I assume wrong?

S Memo doesn't open after ICS 4.0.4 Update on GT-N7000
Hi Folks,
I updated my GT-N7000 to ICS 4.0.4 update (87Mb, India) through OTA, and after that the S Memo doesn't open at all. The Application does 'open' but gives a black screen before displaying a message, 'Unfortunately, S Memo couldn't open' and gives me an option to cancel or wait.
Its been a few days since the update and i tried emptying cache, clearing application data and also wiping partition cache but none of it worked.
Please provide a solution for this issue as S Memo is like a canvas for me.
Thanks
does anyone know if its safe to root from here directly and flash from it directly? or do i still need a aosp before flashing new roms

oh is there sounds good i will have to check it out.
i cant see youtube on mine and im still on 4.1.1
its a shame that you cant have all your apps in multi window without rooting your device and that, pretty annoying tbh.
i think i read you can modify the appone by one but thats long specially if u have to update the app etc n have lots of apps on your device
This is update for those who DIDN'T have 4.1.2 before?
Or is this update an update ON TOP of 4.1.2?
This is the official update for the UK to 4.1.2 as we seem to have been waiting for a long time. Cannot comment on whether it is any different to other countries 4.1.2 but nice to see I can now run standard Android Twitter client as a multi-window app.
Could anyone upload this firmware? I can't download it from kies as im not on official firmware
Might be on sammobile.com...
Not on Sammobile at the moment.
Dont remember seeing lecture notes & papyrus as multi window apps prior to the update today, but they are in the list now for sure.
New apps added with multi-window on my Note are:- Astro File Manager, ChatOn, Chrome, Facebook, Gmail, Google Maps, MX Player, Google Talk, Twitter and YouTube. I know I had Papyrus in 4.1.1 and I think I may have had MX Player but not sure on that one.
Multi-window seems a little difficult to make work sometimes - the multi-window button appears in the bottom right corner on some of these and doesn't always work, seeming to activate whatever is under the button. Also can't see the button anywhere on Papyrus - how does it work on here - this would be really useful for me?
At last youtube and snotes on stock multiwindow!!
and being able too edit which apps and in what order they appear on the multi window bar, this tablet gets better and better
