new dev - Fascinate General

i just wanna let you guys know that still are using the fascinate daily im gonna be trying to give you guys some new things to play with.... i just came across a few ideas... its gonna be different than what is avaliable now... just cm7 based

dunno if that is a good idea or not, not many people use anything other than ICS, and those that do mainly only do it because things like card readers and Bluetooth don't work right in ICS.

What do you expect? You can be happy when it's booting. You can feel very lucky when you can play around a bit. If you do not need to make phone calls with your phone, try it ...

as far as I can tell there is absolutely no point in honeycomb for G1
honeycomb is like gingerbread but with extra features for tablets and higher end phones
anyone porting Honeycomb to G1 is just being silly and are most probably not real developers , just winzip fail br0z
Thnx for the reply,
I wouldn't condemn anyone trying to port honeycomb onto lower end devices (I can't believe I just called the G1 a lower end device).
Anyway guys like those give guys like us (by the way am in kenya) a chance to get a taste of the real deal cz it might be a while before the zoom and it's cousins get here.
After all it did take 3 years before we could get an android device in our market.
For the developers, or whatever it is you'd like to call them, kudos

So, how did it turnout?
Super slow, the UI is not bad but that's just about it.
Nothing else works. But atleast I now know where to go to launch the apps if I ever get a honeycomb device.

MIUI General Discussion

Thread was created in order to move discussions from this development thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054254 to this general thread since our conversations had little to do about contributing to Development. As always keep it clean, no flaming, etc.

I think everyone is waiting for MIUI and CM7. Can't seem to get here soon enough lol we seem to have some Devs looking into making the current MIUI version we have more "useable" hopefully they can get us a descent release where the basic features are stable enough to be use as a 'daily driver' if not, GB will be here shortly in a couple weeks n we'll get things rolling

I'm currently using miui 1.3.5. The only problem for me is battery drain and some other minor things.

Really? For me battery was great, but bad 3G and no 4G killed it for me. If I would have at least had ok 3G, I would keep it, but otherwise when I leave my house, I have no internet, which is not the case on stock (or close) Roms.
The MIUI we have has great features and all, but let's face it, it's not the most attractive looking rom.
I can't wait until we have the newest MIUI, I've used it on my old Evo and trust me it blows away the one we have now. You guys are going to be so happy once we have it.
I'd use it as my daily and never change it EVER if we had it.
Unless the sense port was finished, in that case I would use that. But otherwise new MIUI is great.

It's not until you use theme manager to download themes. You can customize boot animation, wallpaper, icons, ringtones, with one click. Also, if you don't like those, you can get newer ones online at miuithemes.com, but those may not use all their features on froyo.
I'm really feeling the excitement build in the Epic community and I think its great. Things have been much more positive around here lately as well. I can't wait to try out miui and cm7 after GB source comes out, and hopefully be able to help out finding bugs and testing.
A couple months ago I was ready to ditch this phone for just about anything (even considered downgrading to an EVO) but now I think I'll be happily running the Epic for a good while to come.
For anyone who is fed up waiting for the latest and greatest, try running SFR 1.2 (froyo) with clean kernel. I am very nit picky about my daily driver and this has been flawless. Performance is much better than stock, and everything works so well I just don't feel rushed to upgrade (phone or OS) like I used to.
Right now I'm using marcusants ACS Bamboozle, but will definitely switch when (maybe if) we get GB Miui.
I have also seen an improvement in our community. The useless flaming and bickering has been toned down to a minimum, if not, just completely stopped. Its great to finally be one big happy community like before. I can say SRF 1.2 is def my favaorite ROM and daily driver at the moment, but I'm definetly looking towards CM7 and MIUI. It'll still be a while to get some stable builds done even after source is released so I hope SRF 1.3 is dropped a bit before then so I can totally leave froyo with a bang! and according to qbking77 in the SRF 1.2 development thread, SRF 1.3 is still being worked on, as well as a possible new kernel thanks to their hard work, it'll be a lot easier to wait a bit longer for MIUI/CM7 lol

MIUI just looks like a Chinese iOS knockoff. :\
Since I'm also probably going to be waiting for the next Nexus (if I can resist the SGSII) I'm also looking forward to CM7 and MIUI. I've never used either before or any iteration, but the reports on them are always great.
I'm gonna go to CM7 and set everything up, make a Nandroid Backup, then go to MIUI and set everything up with a Nandroid Backup after, because those are gonna be the only 2 ROMs I'll use.
Do any of you know how to build a kernel? I've made files to test, but don't know how to compile. I combined some files from GS CM Kernel and Epic stock kernel. Just need to know how to make a zimage. I can post the files if you want to compile.

You might want to PM thomasskull666 or Rodderik for that. They're the "kernel gurus". Just make sure u know what your doing and dnt hard brick ur phone. I wish I could help more but so far I'm looking for an extra computer to load a linux only OS since I hate to dual boot. Also, I haven't read too much into compiling yet so no help there either :\ sorry

Attention Devs

Didn't want to post this in the dev section because its not very fitting for there..
But anyway,
Was hoping you guys could all get together and make one ULTIMATE rom. Also side note. As many of you know, each rom has a slightly different theme or look to it and some people may love it and some people may not. So PLEASEEEEE post screen shots of your rom. Not worth it to wipe your phone, everything besides sd card, and finish the process to come find out that you dont really like the look. (I havnt done this! Just a suggestion for people who have and they would love you for it)
So for this ultimate rom, preferably of course, ICS. As close as possible to android 4.0.. Especially for the Evo 4G users because we dont get the update in 2012 =/ just boring old 2.3.. bleh.. damn Evo 3D.. Back to my point.
Ive noticed some teams are a team, and throw bits and pieces together from other roms of their team members, but as ive noticed, not ALL seam to work on everything together..
Would be nice to see every team make a ROM, Representing ICS. But using their BEST work to make it the thing their most proud of (besides family of course. Maybe not so much your wife if you hate her).
Im not sure what you guys would think would be most smooth and power efficient, and be as close to stock as possible.. Not sure if Sense or w/e would.. Hopfully you guys do.
Hoping you guys could get in the basics. Camera, 4G, Wifi, etc..
Uh how about.. no
Just putting this out there until there is a good source aka an htc device with ics its hard to do this also I get where your going but trust me the only ultimate rom is one you make for yourself. Not everyone wants the same thing

dualboot idea?

I was just thinking as an idea or suggestion for the atrix it'dbe cool if there was a dual boot for it haha. i don't really know alot about this phone so i'm what my name is when it comes to developing although i wanna learn how to develope mods and stuff. but is there a way to somehow put 2 roms together and have the phone think one is webtop and can view it on the phone? like to have cm7 as primary then put miui in the webtop partition since they use the same kernel (I think?) lol or is this something that can never happen? just wanted to stir up some ideas. also probs to the people who make my phone 10X better.

oh, thanks
Yeah it's not impossible to do, just finicky... I'm trying to work on it in my free time.

Quick update from HCDRJacob (You remember me, right?)

Where I currently stand on the Huawei U8800:
So, I first got the U8800 a good number of months ago. I loved the device and started working on it straight away, made some good progress. Then I got lower AS Level results than I was hoping for. And my parents decided to split up. So basically, I needed to work harder at school, and my life was kind of a bit more hectic. I have still been working on the U8800, and I almost got CM7 finished. The only issue was that I had no camera preview (I was building libcamera from source rather than using prebuilt libs). A lot of hard work was put into it, and I can't take all the credit. Tom Giordano (Tom_G), bukington, dzo and stockwell were all helpful through the process (although contrary to popular belief I didn't just copy dzo and stockwell, I implemented things in different ways which I thought were cleaner). I respect all of the other developers despite any misunderstandings in the past. This brings me to where I stand today.
For the last few months, I've still been working on CM7 when I've had time to try and get it ready for 7.2, although that hasn't been often. Trying to fix the camera preview proved to be quite a hard process that resulted in me wanting to kill the phone on several occasions. I never succeeded. While I was doing this, Tom_G was working on CM9 for the ZTE Blade and bukington has been doing some great work on CM9 for the U8800. I've now realised that the port won't be ready for 7.2 and I am therefore abandoning it. THIS DOES NOT MEAN I AM ABANDONING THE U8800 OR CYANOGENMOD FOR IT. I am going to focus my efforts on working with bukington to get CM9 working on it. He has already done a lot of the work and it's looking promising. I will spend as much time as I can on it, but I need quite high grades to get to the University I want to be in, so I am aware that most of my time will still have to be devoted to school.
I am sorry to anyone who I have disappointed with this device, but time really isn't something I've had a lot of in the past 6 or 7 months.
Can or you know how to create a kernel that can fix the problem of the atmel screens on the 2.3.5 roms, and I don't know if you understand what iam speaking about.

I don't know what the problem even is. I'd love to help with it but I'd rather focus on ICS work than kernels for gingerbread. My time is limited now unfortunately.
Ao you are planning to use the 3.0 kernel for the ics version? Because on the 4.0 rim from dzo his kernel is a 2.3.5 version

Good stuff mate, have seen your updates on buckingtons github. Thanks for all the work and not to sound like an old fart, but good on you for keeping your priorities in order. Personal life and uni is a lot more important than a phone.
If it is all good to let us know, how is Buckingtons ICS port coming along?
