As anybody manage to get this handset to work with sky anytime or view the sky programmes available on the Vodafone handsets, if so could someone explain how this would be done. I'm on t-mobile but I have a Vodafone Pay as you go sim, but I 've been trying for about four days now on the phone with HTC as well as Vodafone (who are crap) both are saying that this should be possible but neither could provide me with the setting that work for this service and just kept batting me from one place to another !
Hi all,
I am running the stock UK Vodafone firmware and this morning updated to the latest firmware through Kies.
With this firmware update Vodafone have installed a number of branded applications leading through to their own mobile portals, as well as a couple of trial games.
Some initial issues I have observed are below:
360 Shop - doesnt work
360 Updates - 1 way install of Vodaphone services to the phone, no uninstall option.
Music shop - Fails to connect to the service (later found it does connect but didnt over wifi when I tried it.
Tetris trial & Monopoly trial - Who would want a trial permanently installed on their device?
Web - just another link to the web browser only with the Vodafone 360 login, point exactly?
Duplicated applications in the application drawer.
Note: These applications cannot be installed using the standard package installer. There is an application mentioned on the Voda forums which apparently can remove them http://forum.sdx-dev...34736/#msg34736
This thread is to inform the community about this update, and to call out to anyone running this firmware to voice your opinion on the Vodafone forums and support channels.
This happened to the HTC Desire around a month ago, the community pushed back and Vodafone relented by releasing another update without the additional software.
same old vodafone, they've been pulling this rubbish since the 1st colour phones came out. I've avoided them whenever I can. They know no-one likes the poorly designed interfaces, ugly colour schemes replacing fine designs. Yet because they make money from it they persist.
I half expected that it would come at some point but I hoped they would have learnt from the kickback they got from HTC owners. I guess not.
I tried out their 'Music Shop' app to see if it was any good. It was so badly designed that ended up with an unwanted purchase after about a minute of exploring. I clicked on what looked to be an advert and it started downloading, no purchase confirmation. Terrible.
We had a good laugh about the 14 piece Tetris and 1 circuit round the board Monopoly trials as well.
I know I could mess around with it and debrand, install custom roms etc. But for someone waiting patiently for Froyo from Vodafone, this is a bit of a kick in the teeth.
My SGS is from Vodafone, and last week, when I finally got Keis working, I updated to JM1. I checked again today and there are no other udates available, so I hope that this means that Keis is seeing my phone as a non-branded unit, although it is sim-locked to Vodafone.
Does anyone have any thoughts or definate ideas on this?
got my sgs last week and im assuming that this is the firmware it was sent with because i had all that crap ... and also wifi seemed to hang up at "retrieving IP Address" (or something along those lines)
.. voda branding is horrible ... laggy splash screen .. i've flashed it now
For anyone looking to support this cause, here is a link to the main thread on the Vodafone forum
I received my new Galaxy S from Vodafone about a week ago and it had all that stuff preinstalled. Obviously I flashed it with Odin on receiving it, and will do the same when Froyo is released.
I really can't be bothered with Vodafone branding stuff, you want to see how they messed up the Touch Pro 2. Black letters on a dark red background so you couldn't even see how many new mails etc you got properly :sigh:

Heh yeah I flashed my Galaxy S within 1 day of receiving it, Why won't Vodafone understand that customers don't want the s**t Vodafone branding. I have always flashed my mobile's firmware to get rid of the c**p that Vodafone slap on it and I will continue to do so until they stop raping phones with their stupid and slow firmwares! (fat chance of that right lol)
Feckers.
I'll add my tuppence worth. Hopefully enough SGS owners with Voda will do the same and they'll be forced to release an update that removes this tripe, just as they did for the HTC Desire...
The threads have been merged, new topic can be found here.
I received an email from Vodafone last night asking for some details about my handset so they could investigate it. Not entirely sure what thats about.

According to their eforum team they had a batch of non-branded phones when they first started selling them, presumably because their firmware wasn't going to be ready at launch. I got one, and it's not sim-locked either. Are you sure yours is? I've tried mine with VF, O2 and T-Mobile sims and they all work fine.
If you go into settings, about phone, and check out build number/baseband version, that should have XX in the middle. I think the branded ones have e.g. VOD instead.
I'm in communication with the eforum team and they are investigating my case and many others.
The have said that they are only interested in the handsets which were previously unbranded, which have become branded by this recent update which mine was.
I don't know what my previous build number was, but my current one is ECLAIR.I9000BUJM4

Thanks for the info, my baseband version since I upgraded is i9000XXJM1, so hopefully if I'm careful, I can keep away from the dreaded Voda-bloat.
Somewhere along the line, my phone has crossed over to the dark side.
I think they are identifying those who have been wrongly branded and are going to add them to a special deployment list. Those who were branded already might be another story.
My phone was build number eclair.i9000xxjf3 and now after the recent 2.1update 1 is now eclair.i9000bujm4. Was unbranded now totally branded with vodaphone bloatware.
The updates by kies need to have an update list with them so we know what has changed. BUt why would vodaphone want us to know they are including the bloatware.
I think they are trying to brand all those unbraded vodaphone phones that escaped into the wild.
I got mine in an upgrade from vodaphone online shop at the begining of august.
The more recent phones seem to be already branded.
Fingers crossed for froyo day !!
Hey, im using cyanogen mod (info at the bottom)
I've been travelling lately, and used my G1 in spain, france, poland, germany, italy with no problems.
The moment i crossed la-manche channel everything went offline.
Sometimes i get registered on the network (via roaming) but im unable to place calls or send text messages.
I bought the phone on ebay back when i was in Poland. i think guy was selling it because it was locked in UK... it wasnt a problem untill now, how do i unlock it ?
And what kind of lock is this ? sim lock ? i tried local pre-paid, or subscription cards and they dont work aswell :<
the fact that it was orking with my polish sim card from play, orange and era (i used different providers over time) with no problems makes me all confused.
maybe its something else, like a radio problem ? i think i've uploaded the latest one...
Im not a holder of original owners information, i dont even have acontact with the guy so dont tell me to call t-mobile, cause that wont work propably.. and i cannot placea call anyways :[
Phone info:
T-Mobile G1_1.22.12.29
Kernel version:
2.6.29.6 - cyanogenmod shade toxygene
Mod version: CyanogenMod - 4.2.15.1
Build number : DRC83
Sounds like its been reported stolen. This phone will never work in the UK again.
go to www.checkmend.co.uk, register an account & run a check on your phone (will cost about £2) this will tell you if the phone has ever been reported Lost or Stolen & if it is currently blocked in the UK.
Or if you like you can drop me the IMEI number & i can check for you with the work account & let you know what it says
Hello. I live in the UK and bought an unlocked Samsung S8 through amazon.co.uk. It appears that the phone was actually made for Italy. I can use my sim card, I can use my Google Play account with the UK address, but when trying to use Samsung Pay (which is available in UK and not in Italy) it says it's not supported in this country or device.
What can I do? Is istalling a new firmware the only option?

I've ordered a SM-G9750 from China and its the first time I've used a Samsung import in the UK on ee, can anyone answer a few questions:
1. Is there anything I should do to use the phone in the UK - I've read that you need to put a native sim in it and make 10 minutes of calls, true/false?
2. Is Wifi calling working on ee?
3. Is Samsung pay working in the uk?
4. Is Google Pay working in the UK?
5. Can I flash the phone with a more UK compatible firmware or am I stuck on the Chinese one?
6. If I do have to flash will it trip Knox?
7. Will the setting switch to UK/English or will I have to set this up?
8. Will future updates have to be flashed rather than OTA?
Thanks for any feedback - anyone have any more info/tips on using this phone in the UK (with ee if possible)?
I bought from China and I do not have any problems friend, and I live in Portugal, I imagine and should not have problems in UK as well. Everything works well.
You don't need to do anything, put your sim card in and away you go. I bought one from china and haven't had any carrier issues yet. Opened Google pay and it seems to let me be able to add information but haven't tested it in any shops.
During the setup stage change the language to English, I wasn't paying enough attention but you will see it in the drop down menu when you click more options come up.
I had a new firmware come through when I went to check it. But if you find a non chinese firmware snapdragon compatible let me know because I would be very interested.
Great - thanks for the replies - now just got to wait for it to arrive.
Does the camera make the shutter sound every time you use it? Heard that its default for Chinese mobiles.

Yes camera makes mechanical noises when toggling between camera app and something else.

I can't find shutter sound settings in camera app, but if phones set to vibrate or silent then the shutter doesn't sound. But yeh damn the clicking noise on opening the camera app and changing modes is quite distracting.

System sound controls the shutter sound..So turn it down or mute it.

Ordered a Galaxy s10+ from eGlobalcentral UK (it is the Hong Kong - Snapdragon G9750 version) and I'm on a Vodafone SIM-only plan (Contract).
This is what I found:
Wifi Calling - NOT working (the option "Wifi Calling" does not show under Settings in the Phone app)
VoLTE - working
Samsung Pay - working* (however it is the Hong Kong / Chinese version - it does let me register my UK debit and credit cards, but does not include UK specific features, such as the possibility to use on public transport in London without fingerprints, does have some Chinese language ads etc)
Google Pay - NOT working. This was the most surprising fail, as Google Pay was meant to work. It simply does not activate when you put the phone next to a terminal.
Anyone had the same issues?
Thanks
On Vodafone wifi calling works and so does Google pay

Everything works
Using galaxy S10+ g9750 on Vodafone UK
Currently using the g9750 on Vodafone UK and I can confirm WiFi calling and volte work perfectly, Google pay is the UK version and Samsung pay is the Hong Kong version...so I stick to Google pay. Otherwise can't see any real downsides. The stock Samsung keyboard doesn't have the £ signs in the UK language keyboard so I've been using gboard instead.
If this helps anyone I have just received an S10 plus (G9750) orrdered via Wonda Mobile, I ordered it shortly before midnight last Tuesday and it arrived the following Wednesday (there was an option for "smooth" delivery costing an extra £7 which I paid).
I had heard Samsung Pay didn't work on the imports which didn't bother me, but zed_1984's post said that Google Pay didn't work for them, which was a worry. I can confirm it works absolutely fine on mine. I'm unable to say if VOLTE or Wifi calling work (Wondamobile say they don't) as my network (Plusnet) don't support either. I do have an option to enable/disable VOLTE, I noticed that the option to enable/disable wifi calling was greyed out within phone settings. After a google I restarted the phone in Safe mode, I was then able to enable Wifi calling and it stayed selectable following a restart into normal mode, but as I said my network doesn't support it.

You can easily change it via the language and input settings.
Change it to English (UK) and in the On Screen Keyboard menu, Samsung Keyboard to English (UK), it should be done.
That keyboard on g9750
Oh yes this has been done but still no pound signs, definitely the English UK is there but the keyboard layout is US
I've got pound signs on mine (I changed the input to English UK in language and input) - the £ signal is on the second screen of symbols (press the down triangle on the right hand side of symbols menu) along with dollar, yen, euro etc

It should be there, if not try what I said before, but then restart the phone and see if it appears, rather oddly it sometimes takes a restart/reboot for it to work.
Has anyone had any joy using the G9750 with iD mobile in the UK? Particularly interested in WiFi/VoLTE calling.

Did VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling work for you on EE in the end?
Bought a SM-G9750 from eglobalcentraluk.com, I can confirm everything works with 3 UK contract sim.
