South Korea Smart Phone Service - Member-Found Deals

I am in Korea and looking for a 1 year contract or less plan with unlimited data using a smart phone. The few English pamphlets I can find are so poorly translated I don't know what I am getting myself into. I don't need many minutes I just need unlimited data, a rooted phone running android 2.3 or above. Can someone help me find a plan/phone?

Paying too much for cingular data!!!

Ok guys here is whats going on. I have been talking to Jacob and a few others on the board about cingular data plans with the 8125.
They had me on the dtcnulrn or something like that for 60 buckas a month. Also I had media net bundle on there for unlimited text messages! I was paying over 100 bucks a month for a normal bill.
Now jacob said to just use media max and cancle everything else because Cingular can't tell the difference between using a smart phone or using a phone that uses media net and that it was all just unlimited internet access.
So what are your thoughts and concerns about me doing this. I have tried to check my data usage since i switched but it tells me I cant get this data untill the next billing cycle on dec 10th. thanks for any input!
Jeb
its me! check over @ howardforums.com and go into the cingular section. there are tons of people posting what they do. between this forum and hofo i dont need any other mobile forum site!
It's not worth the $$$, Cingular and Tmo now has HSDPA speed and their charging way too much for even the slowest GPRS service. I wish the FCC would deregulate the data portion of GSM cell towers so other, cheaper companies would flood in and offer data only SIMS at more resonable prices.
Move to South Africa then, you might enjoy it here ! We pay R2.00/meg. When it comes to data connections i think sa is one of the most expensive countries.
Well I am on a Business plan with Telstra in Australia and if you go PAYG on the data side you are charged 50c per KB!!!!!!! Then on the $29 data pack I am on you only get 70mb of data for $29!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rogers users...

this is probably a ridiculous question but has anyone found a way to use the $7 unlimited browser package on their Hermes? i read on another forum (i'll post the link if i can find it) where someone was able to successfully make this work ..
currently using a unlocked AT&T 8525 with no data package (WiFi almost everywhere i go) but it would be nice to have the option if need be .. there's absolutely no way i'm paying the exhorbinant rates Rogers wants for a PDA plan though ..
I wouldn't call $30/month for 6 gigs "exorbitant", and you have 3 more days to get that rate. I've got that on my Tytn and for all intents and purposes, it's unlimited.
Believe me, I've got plenty of complaints with Rogers (as with any phone/cel company), but you can't go wrong with this plan.

[Q] Just moved to the US... and already lost !

Hi everybody...
Ok, so here's my (short) story:
I've just moved from France to the US (Minneapolis), and I brought with me my HTC HD2 (Leo) from France... and yes, it's unlocked
My provider was Orange France, and I used to pay 29€ (approx $32) for my plan, that includes 60min and unlimited data (I really don't use text messaging a lot), and that was perfect for me.
Since I just moved to the USA, I'm a little bit lost looking for cell phones plans... I have a hard time to find a decent plan that won't cost me too much.
What I need is: approx 60min for calls (could be a little more) and data (unlim. or a least 200mb/mths). Text messages are optionnal. I'd like to pay something's around the same price I used to pay in France (let's say max $35 to $39)
(I might be wrong, but it seems that US plans are really expensive... so if you have any advice I'll be very happy to hear about it)
Thanks a lot for your help !
Go for prepaid its cheaper but not good data plans...but there is Simple mobile that has good plans

Agreed, the plans here are no where close to as cheap as $35. Most providers here will make you get unlimited data if you have a smart phone, to avoid overcharges, but I don't think you'll get what you want for $32, that's crazy cheap.

Simple Mobile runs on T-Mobile. Their "Unlimited Data" is capped @ 1GB and they will terminate your line if you go over. If you don't use that much data, then go for it: http://www.phonenews.com/simple-mob...b-accounts-terminated-when-cap-reached-11989/
Thanks guys ... I'll take a look at the differents plans.
... and yes, France was a magical place for smartphone users AND internet (my internet plan was 29.99€/month, that includes really fast broadband, free phone to all countries and cable TV)
29€ is more like ~$40
virgin mobile
$25 - 200min and unlimited data\mms\txt
or 40 for 1200min
the only downside about cdma prepaid plans is they usually dont have a great selection of phones and usually phones are expensive.
but you can learn to "flash" phones..

Virgin runs on Sprint. They wont take any CDMA phones that aren't branded as Virgin. They have the Blackberry Curve 8530 for 200 and they're getting the LG Optimus V (same as Optimus S from Sprint) for 150, which is without contract.
If you want the Android cousin to your Leo, go to Sprint and get the HTC Evo which is what I have. They're still pretty cheap. Or you can buy one from someone and flash it to Boost Mobile (which also runs on Sprint. I don't recommend MetroPCS because their data is slow, however they're cheap and they will flash the phone for you to their network in one of their stores.

I know how to flash phones..., mine is already flashed
And I'd like a plan whithout buying a new phone, my Leo is just 6mths old and I really like it
Well, I'm just back from downtown MPLS... asked about plans at a T-MO store, it seems they have a $29 plan for 500min calls, and a $10 plan for 200mb data, which may fit my requirements.

What is the most Android friendly carrier / plan in Canada (Ontario)?

I'm going to help a friend go phone shopping this week. She asked for my help because I work in the wireless industry in the states. I last helped her 3 years ago and about blew a gasket because of how different (costly) the plans were. I haven't really done research on the Canadian carriers in a while and would like a bit of help. She is interested in a Android device because she sees all the things my wife and I do and use on our devices.
So I ask, who has the best deal for data voice and txt with decent coverage in Ontario?

I would also like to know that.
Not sure this is the response you want but we (my wife and I) went with Blacks Photo (yes they sell phones) and hooked up with Telus. Our plans are pretty cheap with 1 gig data, 200 anytime minutes and unlimited texting i believe. She got the galaxy s and I got the htc desire hd. Pretty much satisfied.
Peterborough, Ontario.
It was mainly refreshing because they didn't try to sell you stuff as a Phone Store, but as a store that ALSO sells phones (and didn't have all the sales pitches/buzzwords/etc to distract from the sale).
Bell has the best phones by far, plans are average. Koodo has the best plans, but mobilicity and virgin are right below it, and they have better phones.
Edit: oh ya and wind mobile is probably the same as koodo, but they have better phones, in fact they just got the optimus 2x.
I'm with Windmobile. Living in Oshawa. My plan is unlimited data, unlimited call, unlimited international text, call waiting, call forwarding, voice mail, call display for $40/month. Beat that!

I second the Rogers recommendation if you are looking at a contract.
I believe that they are not the place to go for pay per use (was told by friends...details unknown to me).
Reasons I like Rogers:
6 GB data plan
They don't seem to care or charge more for tethering
Very good coverage
Decent Customer service (compared to Bell or Telus)
Reasons was Rogers are not perfect
Phone selection is not great.
3 year contracts (I would prefer 2 year as this is a better representation of how long people keep phones in good condition).
I am also a long-time Fido customer (now belongs to Rogers) and still like some of their plans.
I hope this helps
I agree for Rogers $30 for 6gb is good
But the fees for the minutes and other services are way to expensive.

Im on wind and pay 35 a moth for all that

The problem with the z3tc on t-mobile

After looking around and staying up all night on Twitter trying to figure out why the z3tc lost data capabilities on t-mobile, i have found the culprit
Ther is a forum on t-mobiles website that you can suggest tablets to be put on a 200mb for life plan with tmobil which basically gives you 200mb of data for free every month *seems stupid to me, but apparently recently enough people requested for the SGP621 to welcomed to the tablet side. Thus separating the talk an text plan from data with means you can either pay 10 a month for X amount of data and have no calling features or u can have a normal smartphone plan but not be able to receive data *but i have been able to send and receive picture messages but that's All you can do on whatever data block they have on it. since im new i got to get creative with links but add the normal h. T. T. P stuff in front of...
support.t-mobile.com/thread/75239?start=240&tstart=0
an you can se the page that people requested the change. I don't know about everyone else but i was planning on using the z3tc as my main smartphone so im going to see how far T mobile is willing to go b4 i either have to A. Find a new device or B. Jump ships to a poor atnt data plan
Anyone think it's worth it to fight to get the z3tc able to be used to its full potential on t-mobile or am i just wasting my time?
I created a thread hopping on getting a solution to this problem but it got close because I was suggesting some thing illegal like changing the IMEI to disguise the tablet as something else. i'm ok with that being that is illegal but the problem still here and we need a solution

If you switch to AT&T you can always switch back. I think T-Mo will get this taken care of in time, but I am not holding my breath. As coincidence would have it, AT&T improved their Gophone plans a week or two ago. If you buy @ Callingmart with a promo code or via autorefill, $54 (i.e. $60) gets you talk, text, 4GBs of tetherable LTE (Cricket gives you 20GBs of LTE but capped at 8 Mbps). Plus I am pretty sure AT&T has at least slightly better voice/signal coverage everywhere, and their speeds aren't so bad. Around the Phoenix, area, in a few spots speeds are a bit lower than T-Mo, in one spot I pulled 53 Mbps at 9:30 am on a weekday.
As I mentioned in a thread that was either locked or deleted, I am curious whether someone wants to test out behavior on MetroPCS (which is T-Mo but does not offer free data for life), and/or Harbor Mobile (rididiculous plans that use T-Mo's network but feels sketchy).
Sort of a getto idea
I have a phone company called ptel mobile a pre paid company that i payed 65 for unlimited talk n text and 4 gigs of data they do use t-mobiles towers so it might be worth checking them out again its just i joined tmobil ov vanities day when they had a great deal which was unlimited talk text and data for 100 for two phones! It was a one day deal so i didn't want to loose something rare like that. I did however have an idea that consists of using a dual sim adapter... Granted i will have to find a way to hide the xtra flex cable and sim card coming out the side of the phone but if i can get it to work with the tablet 10$ a month for 5gigs plan that might be worth It for now till everything is sorted??
A dual-sim setup would make things interesting. Airvoice Wireless offers 250minutes & 500 txts on AT&T for $10/mo. Then you would just need to find a data plan to add to it.

Hmm i think ima wait a week or so for the adapter to get shiped from Hong Kong an ill see how it goes. I wonder what would happen to the other line i have in the account if i were to leave n go back to ptel.... Welp looks like ima drive down to tmobil rn. An the only reason im tryna stray away from at n t is because i go to tucson a lot and the service between and in Tucson is really spotty. But thanks for letting me know whats out there

Hold up, I'm confused.
I was thinking of getting this tablet. I'm on T-Mobile with my phone (note 4) and figured I'd use the tablet in my car by giving it the $10/month data plan that T-Mobile offers.
Are you guy saying that I cannot do that now?
You can setup your 621 as tablet and use tablet data plan from T-mobile. But you will lose voice call send/receive and sms feature. If you only need data plan then you can stay with T-mobile.
But if you want to get both Voice/Data plan on you 621. Then you have to switch to other company like AT&T or PTEL.

I see, thank you.
I found an app called Tablet Talk on the play store that lets you send/receive calls from the tablet. Hopefully it works well for that and text messaging.
The tablet will be permanently mounted in my car dashboard so I don't plan to use it as a primary telephone.
yes, you can use tablet talk for your tablet. As long as you got the other phone to sync with it. Enjoy!

I would recommend a data plan (2 GB of data) on T-Mobile and Hangouts/Dialer for all talk and text needs. This is a setup I have been using since October last year and my partner is setup on this as well (we have a T-Mobile SIM that we switch between our devices) and it works great. All calls are going to the Google Voice number and the call quality is excellent.
Rather than opting for a traditional talk/text/data plan, I would rather go down the Hangouts route with a Z3 TC SGP621. The service is reliable and the only drawback I feel is that the Dialer app isn't yet fully "dialer aware" to the system, which means that the "phone dialer" still want to spring into action in some particular cases.
Another benefit with Hangouts/Dialer is that free unlimited talk and text in US and Canada is included and that the phone number as an asset is moved beyond the control of the carrier. It also eliminates roaming charges altogether since it is easy to just put a local data SIM in when the need arise with a phone number that works all over the world. I.e. people can call to the GV number outside of the US and it works perfectly. I can make and receive calls to my GV number with a 716 area code perfectly well in Europe or Canada.
I actually got GV numbers for friends over in Europe in order for them to make free calls to my own number and it works great too.
I am on cricket in Arkansas. And it works great. I am sorry to hear t-mobile is not working good.
