After I rooted my Nexus One for tethering, when I make a bluethooth call with Acura TSX, the phone reboots every time. I have flashed it twice and still the same. Please Help.
These are the steps I took to enable Tethering -
1. Unlock boot loader.
2. Install Superboot - boot.EPE76.superboot.img
3. Flash RAdio - Radio_20100203_2_Signed_PASSION.img
4. Wipe
5. Flash Recovery Image - recovery-RA-nexus-v1.6.2.img
6. Flash Cyanogen Mod - update-cm-5.0.6-N1-signed.zip
7. Install Google Addon - EPE54B
8. Update the Kernel - Folllow Step by Step from Here - code.google .com /p/android-wifi-tether/wiki/NexusOneKernelUpdate
9. Install Apkinstaller
10. Install - wireless_tether_2_0-pre7.apk
does anybody have the same problem.
TIA
CM thread might be a better bet for this, I would guess step 8 and up is probably where things are going wrong. My suggestion would be to install the rom bundle kangorama which already has the tether. I would wipe everything first even though it is a CM based bundle considering your issues to make sure you get a clean start. An alternative is to go to enom which is a very good rom and already has wired/wireless tether as well. This one is getting an update soon as it has been a while.
Thank you for the help.. Im going to give that a try, but what is kangorama rom and enom rom? I did a search, but nothing came up..
Hi, I would like to install this rom, but I did not found a clear instruction. As I am not so familiar with flashing, I would appreciate if someone can explain step by step what a newcomer has to do, like: how to start, where to download the tools and roms and a step by step installation.
I searched the internet and some forums have instructions like this:
1. Unlock/root your device and install Clockwork Recovery via ROM Manager or Amon_RA's recovery image (You MUST be NAND unlocked!)
2. Do a Nandroid backup!
3. Update your radio if necessary
4. WIPE
5. Install the ROM
5. Optionally install the Google Addon
but this installation steps are not clear. For example: Unlock (how, which tools, where to download), Clockwork recover and Rom Manager (where can I get the latest one, how do I use them), what is NAND unlocked, how do I do an Nandroid backup, how can I update my radio, how do I wipe, how do I instal the ROM and more important where do I get the latest ROM, what are the google addons and where can I found and download them?
I suppose, there are more people like me who will appreciate a clear and easy to understand installation!
Thanks in advance,
M.

Hi
I try to figure out how exactly I can flash. As I am not familiar with a lot of things like wording, I donĀ“t really know how to do it and the way of explaining is for me not clear enough to start flashing my wildfire.
For example I visit your thread [2.6.32.21] HCDR.Kernel v4 (Donate) and download the V4 Kernel. I thought it is on file which I start under windows and it does an automatic flash, like the Buzz Rom I used to remove the Vodafone branding - but I realized it is not like this.
I suppose I have to go more deep inside the topic and I wanted to avoid this.
The debrand thing you used is RUU. CM6 is not, so it's not automatic.

flashing instructions
I wouldn't mind seeing some more detailed instructions for various things as well. I have flashed my mobile a few times but \i want to flash the kernal so \I can OC on a stock ROM. Unfortunately, there isn't any detailed info on that which I can find.

That's exactly the info i am looking for as well.
Go to the hcdr kernel thread, read the instructions which clearly tell you version 4 and above is flashable to any rom... Dl and flash normally

true, but then again, we are looking for detailed info on how to do this.
like a tutorial for dummies, and that thread is not, they talk about compiling and stuff, i know what it is, but no idea how to do it.

you don't need to compile anything, that was for the previous versions and is for devs only, just flash the kernel v4.1 normally :S, if you read the OP carefully in that thread, you would understand...

I see what you mean.
So 4.1 can be flashed to any rom, and it is oc ready, it does not need to be compiled, it already is, the compiling story is for devs only, not us mere mortals.
and if i understood it correctly, then when htc pushes their 2.2 update out, it will install with no problem even tho you have another kernal.
I am so sure that Jacobs Thread covers any step of what to do.

Actually, it does not, it might do in a tech kinda way.
But where i had my doubts was knowing that flashing a kernel or installing another rom is done the same way, i thought it was two different procedures.
very simple to understand if you ask me. No tech knowledge needed
Cyanogenmod 7 nighly 22 rebooting problem
Hello Jacob
Thank you for the great work but i had a problem before 1-2 weeks i boot on my phone CM7 i was on CM 6 stable fore that and i didnt had any problem now when i boot nigtly build 22 after 1 day work my phone start to reboot everytime when it turns on when i stop my mobile network i didnt had a problem but with mobile it rebooting. what should i do ?
thank you
PS: i using your kernel 4.1 verion
Hey.
I'm having difficulties with new cyanogenmod 7.1
I Followed different tutorials and none of them helped me.
I started with stock 2.1 rom and did all the unlocking bootlader stuff , then installed custom kernel and managed to install cyanogenmod 7.1 but then occurred a funny thing . There was only FreeXperia logo showing up, nothing else, and it rebooted all the time. Then I flashed stock rom again and tried to understand what's wrong and tried to use different kernels and nothing.
So my question is. Is there anything I'm missing here?
Henri.
Full wipe after you install rom.
Dot forget to make backups first.
about that...
i always do full wipe after installing roms, so it has to be something else.
Thnks anyway..
But after browsing several topics in XDA forum I saw that I'm not only one with the problem.
If anybody has had the problems like I do and got the solutions, every kind of tips are welcome.

I got it all working, but I don't know what was the reason, because, I just did the whole thing again about three or four times, and then it just booted and worked.
I never could install Cyanogenmod in my phone... could you?
Hey!!!
I could write a total working tutorial how I managed to get to work everything, but it takes time, so if you want tutorial send me private message , so I create it for you.
Henri
Does wifi and/or 3G work for you longer then 15 minutes?
No, but at the moment I'm using RC1 flawlessly.

umm..why not post it publicly man ? It will be useful for everyone including myself.
Would also like that tutorial
ok,
i'm gonna post it here after finishing it.
So, the wanted tutorial is here!
Firstly it's for xperia x8(E15i) to be superclear.
I'm gonna put that tutorial into steps.
STEP 1
You need to have stock 2.1 rom with baseband XXX015 , if you don't have it, then go to Sony Ericsson's webpage and download the upload service and flash it back into your phone.
STEP 2
You phone has to be rooted. Easieset way is using Superoneclick(sorry, i'm not gonna provide the link, because it's just google-ing thing to you who need rooting program)
STEP 3
Now, everything comes to the unlocking process for bootloader. there is also tutorial how to succeed when using s1tool and msm7227 (if you have problem, then I don't know). Try to undestand the tutorial of doing it.
S1tool is for identifying if your phone is unlocked or not.
and msm7227 is for unlocking
tut is here - LINK
I wish luck, don't brick your phone, but it's not so hard to understand tutorials if you have right phone and right tutorial.
STEP 4
I totally suggest to install stable rom. The reason is that released 7.1 has bugs and incompatibility with some phones and i haven't got wifi and 3g working , but tried different roms and kernels.
I provide links i got from deani77, big thanks to him.
You can try this link for FXP028 ROM - http://www.multiupload.com/IIWIPG1ALH
For FXP030 kernel try this link - http://hotfile.com/dl/132650338/7b17...USTOM.ftf.html
(that release is RC1 of Cyanogenmod 7.1 but I think it's the best at the moment!)
and you download all the files as usual. Rom zip package should be in the SD card's root folder, so you can easily install it after flashing kernel
STEP 5
installing is quite simple actually. You need to use flashtool that is provided with rom(link in step 3)
firstly you flash kernel. Kernel file is the one you downloaded .ftf file. You have to put that file(X8_custom.ftf) into firmware folder which is inside of flashtool folder.
Then you open flash tool and you click FLASH, then appears little window and you click ok and then you need to plug in your phone into usb while holding down back button. Your phone has to be off when you are doing that. Then flashtool identifies your phone and will flash the kernel into your phone. when everything comes smooth then you now have fxp custom kernel. it has clockworkmod recovery and you need to click several times back button when FreeXperia logo appears.
STEP 6
You have to do factory reset and format, also i suggest from advanced menu using format system.
Then you select from the recovery menu install custom zip... and you browse your rom .zip file and if everything is OK then it should display "installing update or smth" if it's done then good for you, you reboot and it should work.
IF YOU WANT GOOGLE APPS , then google the link and install it same way you did with the rom. You can do it any time.
..
So if anything is not understandable then ask. I'm not an expert or anything, I just did things like I described.
Best,
Henri.
i have still had problems with bootloop and passing md5 checksum any idea on how to fix this?
mm.. at the moment I don't know but what that md5 checksum means?
I fixed my bootloop issue when I flashed back to stock rom, then I just did all the steps I describe again (not unlocking bootloader because it was unlocked already) .. but I don't know what's really does the bootlooping thing. I just got lucky. It took me like billion hours until I got it working...
[Arc Lt 15i] (some v.imp tips)Easiest way to Root ARC with ICS 4.0.4 & 4.1.B.0.431 fw
Guys,
I upgraded and rooted my Arc to ICS 4.0.4 version. A big thanks to OverLo4d & DoomLord for the files and methods.
Please refer to the following thread for the easiest way to upgrade and root your device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957
Some important things to remember while carrying out this process:
Most important - stick to one root tutorial or process at a time, mixing up processes can easily ruin your device.!! make sure you have backed up your data & have SEUS installed on computer for a worst case scenario. Also manual flashing of updates & rooting is safe only if you follow the steps correctly and in the right way. DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING.
1. You'll need the latest version of FlashTool by Bin4ary.
2. Make sure you backup your APN Settings for internet & MMS settings, later you may need to setup manually after rooting.
3. [IMPORTANT] When you flash the "ready to root" firmware by OverLo4d to your phone, make sure you wipe the user data and user cache. I followed a tutorial on youtube where it was told that you need not wipe the data but that got me into a boot loop at the SONY logo in the first instance, second instance my device did boot but the language got changed and I was not directed to the setup process of the phone.
After Flashing of "ready to root" firmware when your device turns on (first boot), if you don't get the user settings menu directly, then something is wrong - - in this case reflash the firmware and wipe the user data & cache at the flash prompt of FlashTool.
4. [IMPORTANT] after the first firmware flash (before root) - you'll get lots of error messages about keyboard and your simcard not being recognized. Please DO NOT panic, this is normal - the Kernel Only flash will solve this problem.
5. Make sure you install the latest ADB Drivers by running the installer file from DoomLord's root package before running the Runme.bat file.
6. APN Settings - either get on a WiFi network and download the settings from your phone service provider or apply the settings manually, for manual settings i'll recommend that before step 1; you go to settings menu and write down all the APN Settings from your service provider.
7. After you are rooted with ICS 4.0.4 & 4.1.B.0.431 fw; after the first boot - there will definitely be lot of lag in the screen and the device will work slow - battery drains fast etc. again DO NOT panic, give your device some time to get used to the new features. After 24 - 48 hours and couple of reboots, it will become normal.
8. I applied the Big Mod by Pajoneer available at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1554205
this has to be applied using CWM - make sure you apply both update1 & update2.
now you are one happy Arc owner with rooted - upgraded UI with ICS 4.0.4 - enjoy
If you find this useful - Please thank - Bin4ry / OverLo4d / DoomLord / Pajoneer for their awesome tutorials & hard work.
Hate to rain on your parade but while this is a good post to help newer users and the whole rooting thing.
Did you really need to make a ne thread about this, at the moment the arc forum is awash with guides and how to get root etc.
Again well done for making a good contribution to the community.

How many threads on the same topic?
Guys, I completely understand that there are multiple threads / posts on this topic and that itself is one big reason why I opened this one.
When I wanted to root my device, i got so confused with so many threads and files and processes. Also on couple of threads certain important things are missed - that is lot of things are assumed thinking that everyone would know the basics of flashing etc. I just wanted to come up with a post which directs people directly to the easiest options and with important reminders on updating & rooting to ICS.
You got confused with multiple threads so you decided to help out by adding to the confusion and making another thread. Yup, that makes sense.

Exactly!
@OP: I am afraid that you have to put your energy into improving the existing rooting thread. Your guide is indeed well-structured, but having more than 1 threads for the same procedure is too much. Imagine how a member will find an answer if it is scattered among 2 threads. People barely use Search as it is.
Thanks for your effort, kindly proceed here.

Hello,
Firstly it's not a question.
Secondly, yesterday i ran into a stupid situacion - Custom rom installed, but no unlocked bootloader, so rezult is - phone is not starting.
Today i found a solution how to fix this or any other problem ( bad kernel, bad ROM and etc.. ) - It's a fully HARD RESET. Why do i call it like that? We restore evertything. From the kernel to the android 2.3.3.
How it's done? Just few simple steps:
1. Download pc companion and install it
2. Open it without connecting your phone
3. Install the support tab ( just press start and wait for download )
4. Press start on it and choose - Phone software update
5. Look for the repair phone option
6. Follow the program options now It's going to be easy
It will work with most of Sony phones ( Whole list is when you do these steps )
Good luck

No offense meant but this was talked about 2 years ago when this phone was released. Since then there are a lot of guide threads on how to recover the X10 from SOFT-BRICK.
