Just sold my Galaxy S2...........
just purchased a Note,so far so good...whatascreen !
will be rooting the beast tonight, and reading the horror stories re: ICS ........i will be waiting a while 'fore installing Custom ROM
cheers all
from Bonny Scotland

Hi Dennis,
I just picked up a Note, too. I'm new to Android and I was thinking about rooting to get the ICS update early. Which method will you be using?

Welcome both, I hope you're as pleased with your phone as I am. I'd strongly suggest having a good read of Dr Ketan's root guide in the development section. Chances are you'll need to downgrade to root and the doc's guide is excellent.

I am new android user as well. Just bought my note. Is there ics update for dummies lol

Another new G note user here, day 1. Been on a couple of other Android phones. Boy, thus screen is massive. How on earth can you guys Swype singlehandedly?
The wifi upgrade to ICS was flawless. Personally, there is nothing to complain about.
Rooting the phone soon, and joining the crowd.

Hey! Yes, very pleased with it. I'm a little disappointed with the Android email apps, though. I've come from an iPhone so I was used to good email on that. I just can't find an Android app that comes close. But other than that, I can't fault the Note.
Thanks for that; I'll check it out.

I use Gmail for most stuff myself and don't need much functionality in the standard email app. A lot of people seem to use K9 very happily though. Worth a look?

Thank You.

This is not a development thread persay, but is addressed to all the devs and modders out there.
We appreciate the work you do, very much! Despite whiners dwelling on how much the phone or software sucks, you folks are making the phone do what we want, how we want.
I tip my hat to you folks, be it themers, devs, or modders.
Great work!
Completely agree
I second this. Thank you very much for all the hard work.
+1
Thank you!

+1. I personally am grateful the devs have taken time out of their lives to develop tools for a soon to be out of date OS. If I had more time I'd help develop but I worked 67 hours last week for example
Okay okay +1 thanks guys

I agree. I also now want to go buy a Snapple product.
Feel goods and warm fuzzies are great. Also try to donate a little here and there to the folks who take the time to code the things you find useful or enjoy on your device.
agreed. u guys are da best!
seriously! you guys ARE android
I got this phone by "mistake". Went to the verizon store for a droid x. They were out so I got the fascinate which they had just got in that day to have something to play with until the x was restocked. Got it home and saw all the verizon bloatware and touchwiz and bing and said this phone sucks! Thanks to the Devs my phone is now friggin awesome. Sooo happy they were out of the droid x that day. What the Devs have done up till now is mind blowing. So thanks JT, Birdman, Deodexed, Supercurio (for Voodoo), Adrynalyne (for Voodoo uninstaller), AgentHeX, wickedbeav, fallingup, and anyone I forgot or don't know about.
many thanks from Georgia
Don't know where we would be without all of your hard working developers out there.
Thank you good sirs, thank you.
Yea this phone is excellent with the all the things the devs has done Thank you. No rush from me to get a kernel, Froyo or anything idc really take your time and THANK YOU.

Other then bing and a few bugs this phone is just awesome!! My droid had bugs that were ironed out after a few system updates so im not freaking out about the long gps lock or backlight buttons

No Tuch Wiz 4 - 2.3.3 update coming next month

i had talk with a guy working in samsung he told me that there is no tuchwiz 4 for galaxy s and update is expected in april ( In europe)
Same funcations as I9000XWJV1 with bug fix
Damn, again a "had talk with a guy working in samsung he told me that" thread. Again a waste of time ;s
Well i believe we will get 2.3 final when there ready and not a moment before

too bad, would really love touch wizz 4.0
i don't like the icons in touchwizz 3.0, they are to big
as tw 4 is the only real benefit of the s2 i 'd really wonder if samsung was so stupid to give it to the galaxy s users.
i'd probably fire the responsible manager as sammy marketing chief if that actually happens as user i hope for tw4 of course, cant be worse than tw3 or cm as it is atm.
I would like to try TouchWiz 4. The YouTube videos of the SGS2 seems to be very nice. TouchWiz 3 was great, but has some problems, like the homescreen is left and not in the middle.
We wont get tw4 as we are only single prossesor and that will be reason and all these mates at samsung stories starting to get boaring only fact is beta out and final will be realesed when they decide to .be content with what we have amd thats the number 1 mobile on planet that initself should suffice but we want gingerbread are we ever going to be satisfied i dout it

For that you could try gtg465x's modded touchwiz 3. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822523. It has middle homescreen, adds alphabetical order of app drawer and a nice 5 columns fixed apps on the bottom. You only need a rooted device and works on stock ROMs
Are people realy taking this kinda post seriously?
Can we have an "Anti-Thanks" or "Kick" button, please?
Well i do also know around 100 people at the nordic samsung support and they have no clue when 2.3 will be out but as they say seeing that 2.2.1 did just get released again i wont expect it before the nexus s are on 2.4 lool... or like this... around summer time.

bah..tw3 or 4 are slowly and heavy ,,realy i prefer cyanogenmod..
I hear that the 2.3 will come out before Milestone 2.2.
p.s. I just a angry mob just switch from MS to I9000
Still no Gingerbread/beard so I guess we'll just have to wait until end of March/beginning of April which is just around the corner. =)
A guy at work told me that his cousin's wife works at Samsung somwhere. She said that 2.3 will in fact have touchwiz 5.

That's the flashtool from the x10 forums. I have used it for the x10. But interesting news that it can be used for ATRIX in some ways too. The OP is from x10 forums. I saw him around a bit. Good find leo.
This can be helpful to devs here in the ATRIX forum hopefully right?

Nice find. Thanks for posting. It has Learning Hub so that's finally being released (at least in Germany). There's still no Reader's Hub or Social Hub. It also said "pen removed" in the quick settings so its got at least one of the Note 2's features ported over. If Google Now only works in portrait mode that will suck. It was fast and fluid but it had no apps or widgets running; the real test to see if there's a difference is when we all load it up with the crap we use everyday.
Yes I am pretty much expecting us to get JB and the full Note 2.0 treatment. Reason being that Samsung will want 10.1 owners to also own the Note 2 as our phone so the devices need to be highly compatible.
Also they probably don't want to deal with 10.1 owners *****ing them out 24/7.

This is what made me question it...
I also think it'll add more value on a 3G Note than a Wi-Fi because it'll be online all the time and Google Now can collect more behavioral info. I haven't used it yet so still don't fully understand what it does, how it does it, or why I need it.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Amazed at what people can miss. Not to be a peni$ here, but this feature has been there since HoneyComb on my other tablets.
This is my first Android phone, so I cannot say if phones had it prior to ICS. I don't even know if other ICS phones support that, but this being a tablet and I can attest that this feature is not new and has been there since HC on old tablets.
What would be a neat feature is:
1. Add an icon to swipe. Just like on iPhones. I learnt how to modify those swipers that I made my own: with my girlfriend's pic, my pic, my motorcycle, my car, my ***, etc, etc.
2. Gesture unlock just like in Win8. Doodle on a picture to unlock the device. This looks like fun.
