I'd guess since you don't know what DPI is, we can be pretty safe that you haven't changed it. However, you can change it by going to /system/build.prop with a root enabled file explorer and navigate to where it says LCD density and change it to 240. I think there are also some apps on the market which allow you to do this anyway, I know that ROM Toolbox has a build.prop editor built in. I've just logged into the market with my account and it says the app is compatible with my 'O2 HTC NexusHD2' and my Desire S.
Thanks for helping out, but my build.prop already says:
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
Google play store recognises the device as Vodafone HTC HD2; I tried Angry Birds and that was compatible.
Any further tips?
Sometimes when it says "not compatible", i download the apk on the web and it works (for free games as megajump (for example), the apk installs and the game works)
Did you try using market enabler?
You can also try going into Setting > applications > manage applications > all and clear the market data
EDIT: says its compatible with both my ancient Touch Pro 2 and HD2. So im sure a market wipe will work.

Ah, completely forgot about market enabler! Installing it right now Yeah hopefully market enabler should work, it gives me access to apps I've never been able to use/see before

Hi people,
I can't find some apps in Market.
Such as Traffic Rush and others.
I am in Hong Kong (non-paid country) but I do have a vodafone UK sim card.
so is this normal?
thanks!
It's because of Wildfires 320x240 (qVGA) Resolution.
You can try to download your Application manually (Traffic+Rush_1.3.apk i guess?) and see if it will run.
The exact answer why we can't see all applications in the market is also already around here in the forums somewhere.

I try install some app copy from a G3 friend, some report error when install, some installed but button can not display normal(part / all out of edge).
most of this is games.
more than half is OK.
more over, some app have a QVGA version. like UCWEB,a web browser.
screen is the weakness, just think it may save battery, make you feels better.
maybe we should just wait how things evolve when froyo update is here
Also guys,
Install Appbrain market place and Fast web install from the market.
Use it with Appbrain.com and you can install all applications on the phone(that are free on the market).
Appbrain does not fix the problem. It show all apps, but if they're not available in your standard Market app, you won't be able to download them!!!!
If have a Wildfire since last week. I bought it in France without any career and I use it with a Vodafone spain simcard.
When I was in France, with my spain career I was able to see/download almost all apps... But since I'm back to spain, a lots of apps disappeared from the market.
If you use the fast installer and install from the site it works fine for me.
I downloaded Mixzing this way.
Payed apps like I said are excluded because of Google Checkout.
I downloaded Fast Web Installer and it said it integrated well with AppBrain ... however it still can't download some apps i find in AppBrain. "Element not found"
or do i have to install through appbrain website?!
got it to work ... install through website ... great find!!!
Is the Wildfire rootable yet?
If so, you can install a patched version of the Marketplace app that'll show all the apps that normally get hidden.
This works fine on my QVGA X10mini
see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742608
(FYI, App developers have to specifically say what screen sizes their apps support. QVGA wasn't available in Android 1.5 or earlier, so old apps that haven't been updated won't show up. Likewise lazy authors won't think to test on other screensizes. We need to make sure authors know that there are lots of QVGA devices out there and we want to use their apps!)

does it work only on rooted?
and will the app run normally?
thanks for the help!
I've been using appbrain to get the apps that don't appear in the market and I've found it works really well. All the ones I've downloaded so far have fit the screen perfectly as well, I don't see any reason why they couldn't be made available on the market

I've only tried on a rooted device (since I removed the original vending.apk and replaced it with the patched one)
If you follow my link through to the original HTC Tattoo thread, you'll find the links for the patched apk's so you can try installing it normally and see what happens
I was wondering if there was a way to simulate a higher display resolution on the wildfire now that the phone has been rooted. This would really be a great help as a lot of programs that do not support qvga would be able to run.
Do you mean to simulate the resolution or make them available in the market?
Most of the programs that we can not access in the market run just fine on QVGA, we just can not install them.
To enable installing....
I think we need (write)access to the market app which is still in a locked part of the phone, but if I have understood correctly that will change with the proper root, aka pretty soon.
As far as I know it also should be relative easy then to hack the "vendoring" part of the market app and just replace it within the phone (that's what they did with tattoo i think).
But, that said, I'm also very eagerly awaiting this. I have been using the htc sync for installing apps from .apk's. But not all programs can be found that way..
I mean i wish to "simulate a higher resolution". BTW u can use market enabler to view all apps in the android market (once your wildfire is rooted)
Alrighty.
I am already using market enabler, you can use it fine with the "1-click-root".
But i'm still missing quite a few apps from the market, as they have not been enabled for QVGA devices like tattoo and wildfire..
i have a patched market that may work to show other apps on market than just for our screen res. but i wont be able to do full test until i have a custom recovery.
Just use Appbrain to install apps from the computer it is so much easier, also you would not to be able to display a higher resolution display on a Lower resolution screen that would just defy the point of a lower resolution screen.

Yep, that's very true.
Damn, Didn't know you could use appbrain for that.
Thank you.
I actually had it installed but had always been "syncing it" from the phone via the google account, and that didn't work.... but if you connect it via the usb it seems to work, nice.
This actually resolves most of my problems

Instead of using the USB you can download 'Fast Web Installer' on your HTC and once you click on install on a app that you like the look of on Appbrain.com it will Push the download to your phone and download it automatically as long as you have wifi on
It's not work, Appbrain sync found this but install don't work, market can't find package.
You need to be either in WiFi or in usb for normal appbrain to work.
Have not tried the web install method yet.

Web installer does not work, all synced up etc, but when i click on the app on appbrain, it says the requested item could not be found.
install the apps from www.appbrain.com not from appbrain application on the phone
it works 100%!
You need to install the fast web install app. Then it should work. As soon as you have root you could try the market patch for Tattoo. There is a version for 2.1 that could also work for the wildfire.
maybe a stupid question
but will this app do the job?

I tried v2 of this and it just froze my phone, i cant find any newer versions to download anywhere and i cant see it on the market...
I personally agree that the long-term aim should be to enable all apps on the market, without needing a PC to download apps not designed for QVGA.
The Tattoo market patch was indeed achieved by editing a constant in the vending apk, but I cannot achieve this myself, and the developer of the original patch did not respond to my query as to how it was achieved on the tattoo.

I fixed for me installing through webbrowser: hxxps://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.earth&feature=search_result
But why i can not use market-application to install. Thats bad...
I'm having the exact same problem - no idea why.
Try this,
Go to manage applications, click on market and clear data, Now install the apps again.
Might work.
I tried to extract the Google Earth apk from the stock ROM and installed it. It installed, however it keeps force closing when i launch it. So i guess it's incompatible with CyanogenMod 7.1
Installs and works just fine on cm 7.1.0.1, but I also have matrix 8.5 kernel on top of cm

When I was on CM7.1, I didn't have any difficulties to install from local Market or Web Market.
Furthermore Google Earth has a lot of downloads, then it would say if there was a kind of bug we would be informed one or two days later and not one week.
Did you already try to clear/ wype Cache?

THX for this solution!
I found the solution to my issue regarding this as well. Apparently, if you change the device density, it will say device not compatible. I like running mine at 200 instead of default 240. So when I changed it back to 240, I was able to install/update all the apps.
Heeeeelllpp!!!
I convinced my girl to root her phone so i could "make it pretty" for her and well, part of my theming included changing the density down to 200. I used blade buddy to do it at first and it worked fine, except for the "device is not compatible" play store message. So i changed the density back to 240 again with blade buddy and it still gives me the incompatible message, even after wiping data from play store and rebooting with the default density! So i tried market enabler and that worked ONE time, now no matter what i do its not updating most of her apps and market enabler does nothing to help. Any suggestions, other than the obvious nandroid?
I just created a bootable SD with the latest CM7 and most of the apps I used to run now state "Your Device is not compatible this item" when I try to get the from the market.
I was running an older version of CM7 and everything worked fine.
Suggestions please...
What do you mean by "the latest CM7"? What version?
I ran into the same issue on my Galaxy tab and it was due to a cache partition issue that doesn't allow apps with a footprint bigger than 30megs ,the fix was to redo the partitioning. Very odd it is happening on your nook.

You are right I was un-specific.
I went back and checked and for some reason the version of CM7 is 7.0.3 and not the 7.1.0 I was going to try out.
I am going back to the beginning and try again.

Let the mods worry about that. They'll move it if needed.
I installed the app LCDDensity (free in Market), set it to 160, reboot, clear market data and the apps will start showing up as installable.
Does this work of nootered nooks or just cm7?
I downloaded "lcd resolution" and it says my density is already at 160. Yet apps such as Nasa wont show up and I hate trawling around google trying find direct links to APK files.
I use LCD Resolution, and 240dpi and see no loss of apps in the market. I guess if you see the "Movies" tab in the market, you're device is displaying the market correctly.

I had the same problem but it was because I set my dpi to 190. I prefer 190 because it just makes it feel more like a tablet and you can fit more on the screen. Not worth not being able to download apps though.

Thanks, It took a few go-rounds, but I'm finally synced up again on _all_ apps.
Using : [01/feb/2012] Rom SENSATION XL V 3.0 stock ALL IN ONE (marc v0.1.8 ker)
I installed this rom, and the market updated to google play.
Device identified as HTC X315e
However this app, can not be installed as it is incompatible. It is definetely able to play using [20.Feb.2012] NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.3-CM9 V1.4 and also able to download the app. However it is not with sense.
Really want to install this game, any way to solve this problem? I have tried editing build.prop with no luck...
By the way, the android market is now changed to google play.
you should change your dpi to 240 or 160! there are apps on the market, thats the easiest way (dpi changer?) or just change it in your build.prop

Sorry didn't see that you alread tried this. That is the only thing that worked for me. there is a hacked market somewhere around XDA but for me it doesn't work anymore since google play immediatly updates it.
good luck though
Try to clear Market cache and redownload.
Or in terminal use marketclean.sh (i don't know if it does more than regular cache clear by app manager).
Are you sure that device you changed ID to is compatible?
Have you checked the app on https://play.google.com/store ; as you device is incompatible at the moment and would be greyed out but hovering over it may give more detail i.e. Not available in device's country. Which may be remedied by market enabler.
And FYI, the country/region may be static and built into the rom not based on actual location. which would explain why it works on some roms and not others

I dont think it is due to the country, it says that the device is not compatible.
