Dont format your SD.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Right. No need to format the internal sd card. I was simply mentioning that the vibrant needs it to be FAT32 to operate.
90% of the files you need come from the official backtrack site.
The 10% (which is just 1 file) comes from another XDA member who essentially resized the official backtrack img file to something that would fit within the constraints of the fat32 4gig file size limit.
The quick version at the bottom of the write up should cut the confusion.

Easy Rooting Toolkit - GT-I9000 edition

Based on: [ROOTING/UNROOTING] DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit [v1.0](zergRush Exploit)
DooMLoRD UNROOTING Script v1.0
it should work/root any Gingerbread at least till 2.3.5 ... we do not have 2.3.6 to test =)
reported not working on XXJPY Froyo ...
Changelog for v103:
+ updated zergRush binary for today's update (21-11-2011)
+ updated Superuser.apk to 3.0.7
Changelog for v102 from DooMLoRD version:
+ modified to free up space for binaries and apps by removing PowerOn.wav and bootsamsung.qmg from /system/ (bootsound and bootanimation)
+ updated Superuser.apk to 3.0.6
+ updated busybox to 1.19.3
+ updaated zergRush binary to latest version for 02.11.2011
Download:
>>> GT-I9000v103.7z <<< - gt-i9000 modified toolkit - LATEST
>>> GT-I9000v102.7z <<< - gt-i9000 modified toolkit
do not get scared of lot +++ LOG: write failed (errno=14) seems to be working anyways
How to restore bootsound and bootanimation:
*) deleted PowerOn.wav and bootsamsung.qmg files are locared in /data/local/tmp/
1) to restore PowerOn.wav and bootsamsung.qmg you first need to free up space in /system/
tutorial by BlackDalmatian
=> install "Mount /system (rw / ro)" (utility from the market)
=> set /system as RW with this utility
=> install "Android Terminal Emulator" (utility from the market)
=> copy the two files with cp command
=> change permissions to 644 with chmod
(you can use any file explorer but DO NOT FORGET TO SET PERMISIONS)
Click to collapse
2) fastest way to do it is by removing google apps - you can do it with this tool
[UTIL][25/AUG/11] Samsung Galaxy S Chlorine (or cwm update bloat remover generator)
3) after that just push files to their proper locations:
/system/etc/PowerOn.wav
/system/media/bootsamsung.qmg
4) and mow redownload all google apps you need via market,
this time they will be installed to /data/app/ not /system/app/
so no more problems with not enought space =)

2nd.... this would be good to know...
If you got stok ICS running and you got the unlocked booltoader and custom recovery running you can flash the patched boot.img (kernels from Flexreaper thread) for ICS bootloader users , they give you full root without any other proces except installing superuser app. No need to use the easy root tool then.
If you want to go back flash the stock boot.img back or restore it from a nandroid backup , remove the super user app and you are root less.

[HOW-TO]Change main-version for easy RUU and OTA

First of all, THANKS to drellisdee (a recognized developer in HTC Rezound thread) for the misctool by him!!
In drellisdee's misc tool post, he has written that this tool can be used in linux only.
as most of us use windows or macs i thought it would be usefull to be able to run this tool in windows and mac(I am not sure if it runs in MAC since i dont have it but their is no reason for it to fail to run)
I dont think this can brick your phone or make it mis-function !!
but if it does, i am not responsible for this!!(STANDARD DISCLAIMER)
here i have attached the misctool.zip (ONCE AGAIN THANKS TO drellisdee )
1. Un-zip this in the folder where you have ADB.
2.Open cmd and navigate to this folder.
3.Connect your device to PC(in normal mode ie.not in fastboot)
4.Following is how my cmd looks!! You only have to type those command that are written in BOLD and RED. All other are cmd prompts
C:\Windows\system32>cd c:\mini-sdk
c:\mini-sdk>adb push misctool /data/local/tmp/misctool

Using this you can set whatever(of course) main-ver and then flash corresponding RUU/ROM
DONT FORGET TO HIT THANKS IF THIS HELPED YOU!!
Does this requires the phone to be bootloader unlocked??
This requires root.

NO doing just that doesnt work!!
after doing that if you check using fastboot getvar mainver it doesnt show the changed mainver!!
whereas doing it by method, it does show the change!!
This just saved my ass after going s-on accidentally with a mis-matching mainver to my CID/MID. Using it allowed me to get my RUU to successfully flash and redo my s-off.
This should be in development... it could help a lot of people.
Wait, does this mean i can use every RUU i want?
