[Q] missing intel gma control pannel on window8 - Windows 8 General

hi there everyone. i am on dell inpiron 1545 with intel gm4500 hd inbuilt graphics card. everything works fine with it accept intel gma control pannel. it is missing from right click option as well as taskbar. i can access it from control panel but it is not as good as it was on window7. there is option for changing resolution only. there is no such option like maintaining aspect ratio image scaling etc.
please some one look at it and help me.

Install the latest version of your manufacturer's GMA drivers, Microsoft generally does NOT come with Intel drivers and use their own (Hence the missing GMA Control Panel). It should also be noted that installing the older Intel drivers also gives Windows 8 OpenGL support (which it lacks out of the box.)

Resolution Changer for Windows XP

Here is my resolution changer named SwapResolution. It swaps the display resolution between 800x480 and 1024x600.
It binds to the correct hardware button (Synaptic Scroll Down Button).
This is the version 1.0.0.2 updated on 2008-11-09.
Changelog:
1.0.0.0 - Compiled AutoIt script, occasional crash.
1.0.0.1 - Rewritten in C++, quicker and more reliable. Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package needed. This version works only with Windows XP.
1.0.0.2 - Written in C++, quick and reliable. Self suficient. Runs on Windows XP and Windows Vista.
Thank you

I found that NuClear235 had already posted an answer at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=378650
But it did not work exactly as NuClear235 described. My Synaptics control panel did not have any BUTTONS option. I installed the generic driver from synaptics.com and the BUTTONS option appeared. ControlCenterLauncher.exe should be bound to SCROLL LEFT as described, but ResolutionSwitchLauncher should be bound to SCROLL DOWN, not SCROLL UP as he stated. It works fine now!!
btw: Which Synaptics Control panel you use, that have not the BUTTONS option?
the originaly from HTC Vista download?
Original HTC Synaptics drivers (to download from HTC´s Homepage) Version 10.0.11.1
or the newer:
from Synaptics Homepage Driver Version v10.1.8
http://www.synaptics.com/support/drive.cfm
drivers direct link:
http://drivers.synaptics.com/Synaptics_Driver_v10_1_8_XP32.exe
I use the latest Synaptics drivers directly from Synaptics and it works without problems.
ok, thank you And it is not depending what you install first or last?
First: Install Synaptics from synaptics Homepage
second: the Display changer. http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=124129&d=1224717743

Great work I think the XP related threads are to overloaded at the moment
i cannot see the woods behind the many woods
I don´t have within my WXP TPC the folders c:\program files\HTC, where must located the files ControlCenterLauncher.exe nad ResolutionSwitchLauncher .exe.
If I understand that right, this is only a Part of vista?
Your switcher works, but by me, the switcher don´t interpolate the solution, he change the resolution and then i can scroll left and right on the screen to see all. That´s right, or I´m wrong?
The switcher was working for me, interpolating the resolution, just like under Vista. Now it is not. I have to found the reason. Patience!
uiui cool Thank you
Can this work on Vista too? HTC's solution is an always running background application with additional .net memory footprint, because it is not a native application.

New version 1.0.0.1
See first post.
Thank you. Maybe it works not with Windows Xp language localized Versions and loc. versions of synaptics.
Can you explain us, which drivers at least must be installed for switching the display under Windows XP?
I have installed only actually OS drivers and all drivers that are missed in devicemanager and the actually Intel graphic drivers, actually Synaptics driver, and your patch.
Maybe we must install some other tools from HTC too? (or copy some files from Vista Side to XP folders?
Or is nothing needed more than Display Drivers, Mouse drivers and your patch?

I tried version 1.0.0.1 under Vista:
Copied the the right folder, run the reg file and restart. But it doesn't work.
What do I have to do to undo the changes made by the reg file?
New version resolution changer works perfect, thanks

It should be enough to delete this value in the registry:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\PlugInConfig\TouchPadPS2]
"ExButton2RunApp"="\"C:\\Program Files\\SwapResolution\\SwapResolution.exe\""
or to replace it with the following one:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\PlugInConfig\TouchPadPS2]
"ExButton2RunApp"="HKLM|SOFTWARE\\HTC\\ControlCenter|InstallPath|ResolutionSwitchLauncher.exe"

Yes, but only on Windows XP as yet. And it needs Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86). I will see what I can do.
Version 1.0.0.2 posted. See the first post of this thread.
I have only 800x480 in "list all modes"

devictoria,
Thanks for developing this application. Somehow it doesn't work for me :-(. I have 1.0.0.2 installed.
One suspicious thing: I even don't have the option to see 1024x600 when I click "List all modes" for the display adapter. Did I miss something ?
Edit: never mind, reinstalling the VGA driver did the trick ;-)).
I am glad to see it working
devictoria.
Thank you for the great works. I have tried but unfortunately failed.
When I execute the SwapResolution.exe or press the correctly mapped botton, the screen just blinks and then go back to 800x480. I checked the VGA drivers and found two versions:
1) Digital Flat Panel (1024x768) on Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset (This is by default and the setting is 800x480 w/ 32 bit color. But when I change to 1024x600 w/ 32 bit color, the color does not show correctly).
2) (Default Monitor) on Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family (If I choose this one, it can only go 640x480 w/ Low 8 bit color).
Please help.

same problem here
The same problem as in previous post. The screen only blinks and do not change 800x480 resolution. In addition to above I tried "[email protected] Monitor", nothing changed...
XP TabletPC detects itself monitor as !THREE! "Digital Flat Panel (1024X768)"s and adds its to system... than I change manually in Display Propeties resolution to 800x480.
What`s wrong?

Display driver and control center - Windows 7

Does anyone know a way to modify the display driver for the shift to make 1024x600 interpolation work with windows 7? Currently all drivers install ok but shift control center crashes when launched.
Ref: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=441183
Except from the resolution problem Windows 7 runs smoothly on my shift with approximately 400MB free RAM.

[Q] Screen Resolution Issues

Hi, using a compaq 2710p laptop which has a pen input display so I obviously thought it would be good for win8 However when I was running the DP i couldn't change my screen res. The screen itself is 16:10, but I think running windows 7 I use 16:9 to keep things simple. Now for some reason the CP (and the DP) doesn't let me change the resolution whatsoever. It' currently stuck at 1280x800 (4:3) So I can, luckily use the store but can't snap apps. I have no options to change the res at all? The option is just greyed out.
What graphics card do you have? I couldn't change resolution until I installed GeForce drivers from NVidia, if you have ati or Intel you just need the latest windows 7 driver.

ATI i think but I'll double check later on. In screen resolution I clicked display drivers, then update drivers. It went from microsoft basic drivers to some long name but it changed back because it was a "bad driver"?
Ah that's probably it then, you need to find out what the graphics card is then go to ati/amd website and get the latest relevant drivers

[Q] Will Windows 7 driver and ccc will work on windows 8?

I am using ati mobility radeon 5650 on a vaio VPCEB46FG and running windows 7 home premium.
When i checked with the Official Windows 8 upgrade tool from microsoft it said that ccc have to be reinstalled, but it showed that device is compatible. The problem is i cannot use the drivers provided by the AMD bcoz of switchable graphics, have to rely on sony for that driver for windows8 compatibility, and they are not releasing the drivers.
So will the drivers for windows 7 and catalyst control center work on windows 8.

I had problems with that on the CP and RP, id might be possible to force the AMD drivers to accept your graphics card as one of their own.
I don't have time just not to go through it all but basically if you look at the amd drivers, you will see an INF file with a list of supported devices and their device IDs, essentially you will replace the device ID of a similar card with your device ID, uninstall the drivers you have, and when you install the AMD ones it should think your device is now supported....
In Theory

ok, we know it is a AMD/ATI chipset, do you know what its based on?
Download the latest AMD drivers for win 8
When you run it, it will copy all the guff it needs to a folder, for example
C:\AMD\AMD_Catalyst_12.9_Beta\Packages\Drivers\Display
you should have two folders
W8_INF
W86A_INF
one is 32bit one is 64bit
lets take the 32bit one, the same applies to 64 anyway
you will see 3 INF files, these are for different versions of windows, id change all three but you should be able to get away with changing
CE146933.INF which is Win 8 version
this file is EPIC in size, the first bit you are looking for looks like this
(This is an example, until I know which card you have I cant be sure which to use)
"%AMD68B8.1%" = ati2mtag_Evergreen, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68B8&SUBSYS_30001002
Note the bold black on the left and the bold red on the right, the red one is a unique ID code for a piece of hardware, the bold black code is a number that is tied to that hardware ID and assigns it a Name, the Green is the important bit and tells it what it install. In short, if that hardware ID was detected it would load the driver settings for the device "AMD68B8.1" using settings ati2mtag_Evergreen
if you look at the very bottom of the INF you can see a list of what those codes mean, in this example it translates to
AMD68B8.1 = "AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series"
What is happening at the moment is that the driver is loading, and not detecting the hardware ID, because its not listed it fails to install
what we want to do is to fool the driver in to thinking that your hardware ID IS in the driver.
in theory its simple, in practice there can be a number of things that stop it working, like getting CCC working may be an issue but there you have it, that's the basics of what you can try, it may not work though so don't hold your breath
I had to jump through a crazy number of hoops to get AMD's drivers working on my notebook's 5650 with switchable graphics - and it's unfortunately all because AMD insist on running pre-installation checks. The drivers work, but they don't let you use them.
It eventually worked when updated my notebook from 7 to the RP, and chose to keep drivers installed during the process. I then reinstalled CCC, as the update wiped it out. My driver version is 8.692.1.0, and is dated 22/01/2010.
Switchable graphics works, but I can't right click on the desktop to open the program. I need to run CCC, and then navigate to switchable graphics.
I highly recommend this approach of using switchable graphics - if it works for you. AMD drivers for this are an unmitigated disaster, and any attempts to get a better situation may leave you worse off. Expect lots and lots of 'Install was successful' messages - even though nothing was actually done at all.
If your Windows 7 GPU drivers are working in Windows 8, you'll see the following in Device Manager:
-When GPU is disabled, "Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator HD" appears in Device Manager.
-When using the GPU, "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650" and the above Intel graphics appear under Device Manager.
Remember that your Intel drivers must be working too - they're part of the switchable graphics. If you see 'engineering sample' or anything next to the driver name, then something is probably wrong.
Anyway, this is just confirming that W7 drivers do work perfectly, if you bypass the OS version check.
If you manage to get W8 drivers to have switchable graphics, that's excellent.
I'll be happily updating my notebook to the full W8 release in about 2 weeks. I am expecting great pain.
The CCC I used was the CCC pro off of their website. I ran all the apps in w7 compatibility mode. Took about 1-2 days. I'm running a never released ati 4600 series so I designed my drivers.... it was very fun

I think your solution will work, bcoz windows is saying that graphics card is compatible with windows 8, but only thing it says is ccc has to be reinstalled..

DuOS-M Discussion

DuOS-M is commercial software developed by American Megatrends for Intel x86-based computers using the Microsoft Windows operating system to provide a "dual operating system" environment in which the user can simultaneously deploy the Android operating system in tandem with Microsoft Windows.
DuOS-M supports key hardware peripherals in Windows including cameras, audio, microphone and sensors such as ambient light sensor, accelerometer, gyrometer, compass and orientation sensors. It also supports various screen sizes, resolutions, and screen orientation (portrait and landscape) along with 3D acceleration and HD video playback.
The first version of DuOS-M was released in June 2014. The software is available for download for a free 30-day trial, and is available for purchase for a complete license (currently $9.99 US).

I'm surprised there's no discussion on this in xda developers, so I thought I'd start one.
Personal experiences :
I wanted to find an alternative to Andy and Genymotion which rely on VirtualBox since the VirtualBox's ndis filter drivers make my Windows 8.1 desktop regularly bluescreen. There's also Bluestacks but that always seemed to run poorly on even powerful computers.
DuOS-M is based on Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean). They've stated they have no slated support for KitKat since they don't see it as a significant upgrade, but are looking into Android-L support. It comes pre-installed with the Amazon Marketplace. It can run both native x86 android apps and ARM apps out of the box. After installation it takes you to a page that explains how to easily install the Google Play Store / Services:
Installing Google Play Store:
http://amiduos.com/nextsteps
If you scroll down on the above link it also has instructions how to root your installation, which is dead simple.
I really like how Google Play, ARM Support, and Root support are all baked into the process.
Unfortunately I was unable to run this on my Windows 8.1 Enterprise edition desktop since it's running the Hyper-V role which DuOS-M doesn't support (shows a warning on startup that virtualization isn't enabled and then hangs when you OK the warning). I could disable Hyper-V (via removing the role or adding a boot flag option with Hyper-V disabled) but I develop too often with Windows Phone 8 to do that right now.
I next tested it on my ASUS VivoBook 11.6" (1366x768) Touchscreen Laptop which has a Celeron 1007U Dual Core CPU and 4GB memory running Windows 8.1. It runs surprisingly well, better than Genymotion in most cases. It's not perfect, Word With Friends for instance has weird missing textures. But it has been able to run things I've never gotten to work in Genymotion or Bluestacks, such as video streaming in Qloud Media player. Since this is a touch screen laptop all gestures and touch controls seems to work great, in addition to the keyboard/mouse controls. I like how DuOS-M doesn't install a new virtual network card on the host machine and seems to support Internet access transparently.
They recently just released a 32-bit beta version which I'm eager to try on my Dell Venue 8 Pro 8" Windows tablet. At $9.99 I'll probably purchase a copy before my 30-days are up. I'm curious to hear other people's thoughts on DuOS-M. Hopefully with more users/feedback they can continue improving this great Android virtualization alternative.
I've recently purchased DuOS-M.
Compared with Bluestacks, DuOS is a Ferrari. I'm using it on a Lenovo Yoga and i'm very impressed.
My Lenovo has a mobile core i5 processor but this is no problem at all.
All apps and games are running without lag. I did see some glitches but nothing serious.
Overall i'm very pleased with DuOS-M.
It would be nice to see what happens if XDA modders and cookers shine a light on this one!
It's nice...
Really lightweight and fast to install...
Has some limitations like no resizable window, but great overall.

DuOS will not launch in Full screen when the System RAM is less than 3GB, even though full screen is set in Configuration tool or 0 is set in xml configuration file.
This is known issue and this will be fixed in future release.
Seems like the latest update has fixed the fullscreen issue! Runs quite well on my Asus T100.

Does DuOS have a Lollipop image yet ?
Just wondering if anyone found a way around the syscheck (in particular, the 1GB ram). I'm running this on my Surface Pro and it blows Bluestacks out of the water. So I was thinking of running it on an HP Stream 7, a cheapo Windows tablet, but it only has 1GB ram. Getting a "Unfortunately you do not have enough memory to install DuOS-m." error.
DuOS vs Bluestack vs Genymotion vs Andyroid, which one better?
Isn't it VirtualBox also?

Fun fact: This version uses a custom build of VirtualBox. If you dig around, you can find the VHD files and VM config.
Unfortunately, without some reverse engineering, you can't just mount the disks in a VBox VM and go, there's some local host-only networking going on that I'm assuming helps authenticate to the licensing server or something, because trying to launch it gets it stuck after initializing the network interfaces (probably waiting for UDP packets).
Since the virtual nics are in NAT mode, I'm assuming that's why your PC isn't bluescreening, since NAT networking doesn't actually hook your interfaces but is translated from within the VBox software.
I am curious as to how this will work if I install VirtualBox side-by-side.... (it's currently on a separate vanilla test machine).
DuOS is really great, i just installed it and fell in love with straight away. but Has any one tried windroye, it seems to perform well and also has a mobile companion... I'm using it in high end machine so cant really tell the difference. so anyone who tried can you share your opinion ?

For those who've run it on a 32-bit device (older laptop or maybe the Dell Venue Pro 8), any chance you guys can provide the msi installation file? I'd like to try this on an HP Stream 7 which only has 1GB ram.
Apparently AMI is/ will be announcing DuOS 5 at MWC, obviously hoping they have bumped it up to lollipop.
Does anyone has available the keyboard shortcuts list, for zooming and multitouch actions? I can't find it anymore on the official website
