Does anyone know a way to modify the display driver for the shift to make 1024x600 interpolation work with windows 7? Currently all drivers install ok but shift control center crashes when launched.
Ref: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=441183
Except from the resolution problem Windows 7 runs smoothly on my shift with approximately 400MB free RAM.

I have just install windows 7, evrything is OK, but i couldn't put the resolution
to 1024x600. So tell me how experts...
i tried to disable aero to get the 1024x600 interpolated resolution working. Right click on dektop -> personalize -> and choose the first "easy of access" Theme, but it didn't work for me.
Have you installed your Display Drivers for the Shift?
Also, what resolutions CAN you see?
Thanks,
Ryan
Use a WIndows 7 Basic Theme
The one you use still uses AERO I think.
Also, update your video driver first.
Then select Windows 7 Basic theme. It will disable AERO but still look good.
Hi I'm new to the XDA forums. I have a Zune HD and I wonder if any of you wonderful genius developers would like to hack into the encrypted Zune HD and try to port Android to it. It would be great. Us as zuneboards are trying to figure out how to get it to work but apparently they say it's impossible and it's not going to happen. So if anyone needs any details just pm me, if you can do that here.
Doesn't Zune and Android use different systems? Really impossible to port, however replicating it to look and exactly like the Zune HD buy building an app/launcher is possible
Yes but didn't you guys get Android working on HTC HD2 and that's a WinMo phone that runs Win CE 5. The Zune HD uses it's own system but it's already running Windows CE 6 which Windows Phone 7 is running. We already got to the WinCE part of the Zune and we can run Firefox and Skyfire and stuff like that. The people at zuneboards also created a file deployer app so that you can deploy the files from your computer to WinCE side of the Zune. So I am thinking if there is a way to get Android running through WinCE through Haret or whatever program there is.Also, is it possible for the WIndows Phone 7 Marketplace to be ported over to the Zune. Zune HD specs are:
600 MHz NVIDIA Tegra
128 MB of LPDDR RAM
16/32/64 GB of NAND Storage
3-axis accelerometer
3.3inch 480x272 OLED 16:9 screen w 720p output
Capacitive touchscreen
Atheros WiFi(I think it's the 6002 model)
No bluetooth
HD Radio reciever

I have a question about resolution changes in x9500.
I have installed WinXP SP3 on my x9500. There are a lot of resolution options available. I choose any of them, but the actual resolution of the screen doesn't change. It's still just showing a 800 * 480 window, of a, say, 1024 * 720 desktop. So it just pans around the desktop in a 800*480, if people know what I mean.
Is this normal? How can I get out of this? I'd rather have a "shrunken" desktop with higher interpolated resolution than a large "virtual" desktop that I pan around in.

I have asked about this as well, Nobody answered me on this. I hope you'll get an answer, would save my ass too. I am using windows 7 now, which is snappy but you won't get the same performance as in Windows XP, And with this I mean mostly the memory. In windows XP its around 100 to 200 max when using nothing but the os, On windows 7 this lays around 470 - 550 means that this already takes half of the memory.
So nobody has a fix for this?

That's normal with windows 7 and vista, doesn't affect performance. The way windows 7 manages RAM memory is quite different from windows XP, and most of the times you get a better performance on the same hardware using windows 7 over windows XP. So I will not be worried too much about windows 7 memory use. It pre-loads most applications you normally use. I already run several scenarios and all the time windows 7 wins over windows XP on the same hardware (and I talking about low processors like the Atom and similar). Remember RAM memory not used is wasted in windows 7.
I am using ati mobility radeon 5650 on a vaio VPCEB46FG and running windows 7 home premium.
When i checked with the Official Windows 8 upgrade tool from microsoft it said that ccc have to be reinstalled, but it showed that device is compatible. The problem is i cannot use the drivers provided by the AMD bcoz of switchable graphics, have to rely on sony for that driver for windows8 compatibility, and they are not releasing the drivers.
So will the drivers for windows 7 and catalyst control center work on windows 8.

I had problems with that on the CP and RP, id might be possible to force the AMD drivers to accept your graphics card as one of their own.
I don't have time just not to go through it all but basically if you look at the amd drivers, you will see an INF file with a list of supported devices and their device IDs, essentially you will replace the device ID of a similar card with your device ID, uninstall the drivers you have, and when you install the AMD ones it should think your device is now supported....
In Theory

I would love to hear more about this method. My laptop too has the AMD switchable graphics & for the moment am stuck on the Intel HD graphics as the AMD drivers are not installing.

ok, we know it is a AMD/ATI chipset, do you know what its based on?
Download the latest AMD drivers for win 8
When you run it, it will copy all the guff it needs to a folder, for example
C:\AMD\AMD_Catalyst_12.9_Beta\Packages\Drivers\Display
you should have two folders
W8_INF
W86A_INF
one is 32bit one is 64bit
lets take the 32bit one, the same applies to 64 anyway
you will see 3 INF files, these are for different versions of windows, id change all three but you should be able to get away with changing
CE146933.INF which is Win 8 version
this file is EPIC in size, the first bit you are looking for looks like this
(This is an example, until I know which card you have I cant be sure which to use)
"%AMD68B8.1%" = ati2mtag_Evergreen, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68B8&SUBSYS_30001002
Note the bold black on the left and the bold red on the right, the red one is a unique ID code for a piece of hardware, the bold black code is a number that is tied to that hardware ID and assigns it a Name, the Green is the important bit and tells it what it install. In short, if that hardware ID was detected it would load the driver settings for the device "AMD68B8.1" using settings ati2mtag_Evergreen
if you look at the very bottom of the INF you can see a list of what those codes mean, in this example it translates to
AMD68B8.1 = "AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series"
What is happening at the moment is that the driver is loading, and not detecting the hardware ID, because its not listed it fails to install
what we want to do is to fool the driver in to thinking that your hardware ID IS in the driver.
in theory its simple, in practice there can be a number of things that stop it working, like getting CCC working may be an issue but there you have it, that's the basics of what you can try, it may not work though so don't hold your breath
I had to jump through a crazy number of hoops to get AMD's drivers working on my notebook's 5650 with switchable graphics - and it's unfortunately all because AMD insist on running pre-installation checks. The drivers work, but they don't let you use them.
It eventually worked when updated my notebook from 7 to the RP, and chose to keep drivers installed during the process. I then reinstalled CCC, as the update wiped it out. My driver version is 8.692.1.0, and is dated 22/01/2010.
Switchable graphics works, but I can't right click on the desktop to open the program. I need to run CCC, and then navigate to switchable graphics.
I highly recommend this approach of using switchable graphics - if it works for you. AMD drivers for this are an unmitigated disaster, and any attempts to get a better situation may leave you worse off. Expect lots and lots of 'Install was successful' messages - even though nothing was actually done at all.
If your Windows 7 GPU drivers are working in Windows 8, you'll see the following in Device Manager:
-When GPU is disabled, "Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator HD" appears in Device Manager.
-When using the GPU, "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650" and the above Intel graphics appear under Device Manager.
Remember that your Intel drivers must be working too - they're part of the switchable graphics. If you see 'engineering sample' or anything next to the driver name, then something is probably wrong.
Anyway, this is just confirming that W7 drivers do work perfectly, if you bypass the OS version check.
If you manage to get W8 drivers to have switchable graphics, that's excellent.
I'll be happily updating my notebook to the full W8 release in about 2 weeks. I am expecting great pain.
The CCC I used was the CCC pro off of their website. I ran all the apps in w7 compatibility mode. Took about 1-2 days. I'm running a never released ati 4600 series so I designed my drivers.... it was very fun

are you using ATI MOBILITY RADEON graphics 5650 card?
I think your solution will work, bcoz windows is saying that graphics card is compatible with windows 8, but only thing it says is ccc has to be reinstalled..
I ve not bought windows 8 for now. So those who use the vaio VPCE series please try windows update or install the drivers from sony and report back..
Windows 8 support all games as Windows 7 does?
Sent From Mobile Network
Yes all games will work
You don't have to worry about it. All games that worked on Windows 7 will work on Windows 8.
I'm already running it for about 4 months and haven't got any problems yet.
Windows 7 is running on Kernel NT 6.1 and Windows 8 is running on kernel 6.2 so the main core is the same. That's why that everything works so easily like drivers etc. So games wil work!

So far I had problem with F1 2011 by Codemasters.
Luckily, as officially W8 is not supported (and won't be) all it need was change in setting - run as in W7 - and works fine.
Yeah, legacy games (as long as they aren't 16-bit and you on a 64-bit OS) should work. I've played WC2 and that's so old that the original version ran on Windows 3.1 (the "Battle.Net Edition" works fine though). If a game isn't working for some reason, right-click it, go to Properties, select the Compatibility tab, and mark it for compatibility with XP (or something else, if that doesn't work either).
