[Q] Poor camera quality - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My girl has a defy+. I noticed that the camera quality is so poor. My lg-p500 with 3 mpx take better photos. Do you think the same or is only my impression? I have not do any update. Any suggestion?

may propose to try CM7.2 ROM, I'm a little happier with the camera than the factory...

Do you agree that is not good the camera. I see a lot of noise in the photos.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA

yes i agree.. it's sad but dafy has a low quality camera (my opinion..)..
maybe it can take pretty good pictures with perfect light condition.. i'm using camera360

tried different roms and did not notice a change in the poor camera quality. it's almost impossible to improve the quality by software significantly.

Camera/Picture quality

Anyone have any recommended settings for best picture quality? The out of the box settings seem to be taking pictures that are dark and a bit blurry/washed out and pixelated.
i've noticed this myself as well. I've seen the picture threads and know what this can do, but I'm wondering if i have settings messed up.
This may sound stupid, but if you haven't, wipe your lens off.
I totally agree the pics are not 8MP quality IMO. I did wipe my lens off to make sure but it didnt make a diff. Not happy with my cam at all. I have taken a few good pics but for the most part they look blurry and very pixelated.
one of the biggest disappointments of my Eris was how awful the pictures were.
My DroidX is taking awesome photos, though. I tend to keep the photo mode in steady hand mode, and am pleased with the quality overall. I don't expect images taken on a cell phone to match my Canon KissX2 (called the EOS Rebel XSi in North America), but in a pinch it takes nice pictures with a little forethought.
Here's a sample over the car seat photo of my son having some onigiri in a moving car... resized to 25% in photoshop, then saved for web at max quality... the jpeg itself is 400k+ but compressing it would produce artifacts, and you're speaking of quality. I suppose I could have left it full size, but then it's like 2MB+. You get the idea.

All my droid x pics are blurry..wtf

Mess with the settings. Also it is set to 6mp out of the box.

I use a program called Vignette seems to help a lot on the quality

Mine works great. Yeah there are some blurry pictures but 85% are clear and crisp. I played with both 6mp and 8mp. The 6mp for widescreen looks nice on my Vizio.
I have played with Panaoramic however the downside is 2mp.

I bought Vignette last night and it takes awesome pictures.

You just need a steady hand and play with the settings.

Close ups with flash are very clear for me but anything thats over 6 ft away seem to have the blurriness issue. I also have a Droid Inc and it does not have the same issues.
My photos are great with good lighting, but pics with flash just SUCK. But I expected that tbh...
I purchased Vignette from the market for the Droid X and with the camera set to fixed focus it helps the picture taking tremendously. Seems that the auto focus from the stock camera app is having trouble focusing. I wish there was an option to disable it.

I think that Vignette is absolutely a must have for really crisp pics. I am using the Steady Shot option with 8MP Superfine and the onscreen touch to take the shot and it has made a huge difference for me. Thanks for the hint on fixed focus, I'll give that a try next. Since we know the hardware can take really good pics maybe Motorola will get on the stick too and improve the Camera app.

Front facing pictures coming out very dark?

Hi there, I came from using an iphone 4, which I hated but sadly enough I'm use to using the front facing camera indoors and getting great quality pictures and for some reason with the atrix the pictures come out so dark and in such bad quality. Any ideas on how to get a better picture quality?
Thanks guys!

Unfortunately they don't have exposure tweaks or anything. Unless theres a camera app I'm unaware of. You could you Photoshop Express by Adobe.

Best way to tweak your images just right...

SGS2 Camera

Anyeone disappointed with the SGS2 camera? Its ok with normal photos, but then when you try zooming it, the photos look atrocious! its all grainy and no detail at all! is there a fix for this? I have disabled touchwiz and am using ADW...
I didnt seem to have this problem on my nexus one..
I dont see a point of using digital zoom in SGS2 or any other similar phone. It just cripples image quality, nothing else. Personaly I have never used it. And no. Im not dissapointed, Im quite impressed by the built in camera and its recording capabilities. If you wanted to zoom that much, you should have bought standalone camera with optical zoom. Phone is still phone you know.

I have a range of rather nice dslrs like 5d mk2 ect, and I am impressed no end by cam. Video good also, best ive seen on a phone. Digital zoom is pointless and rather a consumer point than a feature. All I want to do is be able to alter aperture, android don't support this afak

Optical zoom is the only good zoom. My tz10 has 12x optical and digital. Even if it had no optical you wouldn't switch digital zoom on as it just pixelates the image.
I'd be impressed if I was shown a camera that didn't ruin the picture with dz

Like everyone else said, no point in using the zoom, it's worth nothing...

I think up to 2x digital zoom, the photo quality is still usable. Note: more higher ISO value, you will get more grainy & less detail photo. The digital zoom may only apply for low ISO setting only
I think the picture quality of the SGS2 is extremely good for a smart phone, after 2 weeks of use.
It's better than many real cameras i know of, which I wont cite (as fanboi wars aren't all that interesting )
if you zoom zoom and zoom all cameras will show grain. the grain it shows is always different and the one of the sgs2 is actually pretty good. I know many professional photographs who actually zoom like that and if they can't zoom as far as their 12MP camera they say it's poorer quality. That's just poor judgement (specially when its their job...).
Of course the resolution of 8MP is lower than 12MP for example, but resolution != quality. Zooming for such pics is also utterly pointless, unless you plan to print a huge poster from your phone camera shots.. but even then, 8MP isn't all that bad.
For everything else, theres huge 2000E+ DSLRs.

Poor Camera performance

Is anyone else disappointed with the camera on the nexus 4? I find I'm getting poorly focused photos for objects at short range.
Is there a better camera app?
Yes search XDA for lgcamera. I like using better than the original camera app.

Worst feature of the phone. The autofocus makes me want to shoot myself in the face.
AOKP camera seems to be better tho.

Hi,
Poor performance, poor quality, poor focus, etc... Maybe a faulty Nexus 4 (I don't know / hardware maybe ).
Take a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2000602 ... Not all the pics are great but... Most are awesome (yeah, it depends mainly of your eyes ).
Seriously not the best cam (software / post-software traitement) but in any case not poor and poor in all circumstance...
Coming from a SGS III (not the best in quality picture but not the last in the course), the Nexus is great! (maybe not in dark place, I agree, besides that it's top!).
And picture quality depends of the photographer (and his eyes) and the subject, the camera settings, etc...
In fact you can try some third apps... I (personnaly) never seen an improvement, on HTC Desire HD, HTC Sensation, Galaxy Nexus, S III, etc... it's not an app which overlay all the post traitement... I mean hardware->software, just some sharpness, colours, effects, etc... it's just in post traitement (you can do the same thing on your computer).
I can understand you're disapointed, but you're coming from what? I mean what smartphone? Real camera? You compare about what?
Post some pics and we'll see if it's poor or not...
And it's a Nexus not an extreme camera-phone, if you just buy a Nexus for his quality pics... You purchased a Nexus for anything other than his camera (or for just that)
we can speak endlessly about the picture quality of the Nexus 4, it depends on too many factors...
Not to be rude but... with no more explanation...

I find the camera on the SGSII to be much better than that on the Nexus 4.
Here is a picture that I took which I'm a bit disappointed with. It is predominantly the focus, though perhaps on this one there's a bit of camera shake.

Camera Tip for Better Quality

For those who aren't very happy with the camera on the Moto G, here is some info I found out earlier today.
16:9 mode is only 3MP
4:3 mode is 5MP
So open up your camera and pull the side settings wheel out and turn off wide screen to take the best pictures possible on these phones and to fully utilize the 5MP that we have.
Of course this won't boost the quality an insane amount, but every bit helps.

Yeah, but the quality of taken photos still sucks... I'm verry disappointed of image quality. Previously i'd had galaxy advance and it took 100% better photos with 3x more storage used. And there was also 5MP sensor. But... nobody can have everything.
Only videos made by its camera can bed considered as "not so bad", and only if there is good sunlight when you are going to record something.

TRY HDR

Try keeping the HDR mode always on and keeping your hand little steady.
Practice it and you'll be able to take great pics with Moto G's camera.
Also, look into some good Camera apps like :
1. Google Camera (Free) - Touch to Focus, Manual Exposure, HDR , Lens Blur(AWESOME !)
2. Camera Zoom FX (Priced) - A lot more features, including Anti-Banding too !
Happy Moto-Geeing !

I am agree, unluckly camera is the only bad point on this phone. Yes, some can help to do better photos but honestly i don't see big differences.
Define "bad" I personally don't thin it's bad. It does great for a 5mp
