I'll tell ya, the quality of the camera on this thing is bad ass. Attached is a panorama I shot with it yesterday.
The original is really high resolution too.

Glad you were in such a nice place. I was wondering how you took such a good panorama shot? (was it a specific panorama app?)
nice shot.. i too am extremely satisfied with the cam on the nexus. care to share the app you used to take that panorama?
I too am interested in that app
Sent from my Nexus One using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Not sure if there's an app that can be used directly on the phone but there's many PC applications that can stitch together a series of photos flawlessly like this. But if there is one on the phone I'd be interested in it!
And that's a beautiful picture!
It's not an app on the phone. I just shot the photos then stiched them together with Windows Live Photo Gallery.
All you do is put your photos into the live photo gallery, highlight them all, right click and select "make panorama".
The optimized version doesn't do it justice, the original is 7500 pixels wide. Took a lot of other ski photos, it was nice not needing a separate camera - every photo came out stunning.
Looks fantastic! Is that with the Desire Camera, or the stock Nexus one?
This is the Desire ROM Alpha 21. I would assume that this is the desire camera app, although I've never seen the normal nexus app so I wouldn't know.
Thanks for the info. The stock camera is good... but the Desire camera is way more adjustable. So far the standalone Desire camera app that PaulOBrien ported for us is the only reason I'd consider rooting.
Anyone have any recommended settings for best picture quality? The out of the box settings seem to be taking pictures that are dark and a bit blurry/washed out and pixelated.
i've noticed this myself as well. I've seen the picture threads and know what this can do, but I'm wondering if i have settings messed up.
This may sound stupid, but if you haven't, wipe your lens off.
I totally agree the pics are not 8MP quality IMO. I did wipe my lens off to make sure but it didnt make a diff. Not happy with my cam at all. I have taken a few good pics but for the most part they look blurry and very pixelated.
one of the biggest disappointments of my Eris was how awful the pictures were.
My DroidX is taking awesome photos, though. I tend to keep the photo mode in steady hand mode, and am pleased with the quality overall. I don't expect images taken on a cell phone to match my Canon KissX2 (called the EOS Rebel XSi in North America), but in a pinch it takes nice pictures with a little forethought.
Here's a sample over the car seat photo of my son having some onigiri in a moving car... resized to 25% in photoshop, then saved for web at max quality... the jpeg itself is 400k+ but compressing it would produce artifacts, and you're speaking of quality. I suppose I could have left it full size, but then it's like 2MB+. You get the idea.

Mess with the settings. Also it is set to 6mp out of the box.

I use a program called Vignette seems to help a lot on the quality

Mine works great. Yeah there are some blurry pictures but 85% are clear and crisp. I played with both 6mp and 8mp. The 6mp for widescreen looks nice on my Vizio.
I have played with Panaoramic however the downside is 2mp.

Close ups with flash are very clear for me but anything thats over 6 ft away seem to have the blurriness issue. I also have a Droid Inc and it does not have the same issues.
My photos are great with good lighting, but pics with flash just SUCK. But I expected that tbh...
I purchased Vignette from the market for the Droid X and with the camera set to fixed focus it helps the picture taking tremendously. Seems that the auto focus from the stock camera app is having trouble focusing. I wish there was an option to disable it.

I think that Vignette is absolutely a must have for really crisp pics. I am using the Steady Shot option with 8MP Superfine and the onscreen touch to take the shot and it has made a huge difference for me. Thanks for the hint on fixed focus, I'll give that a try next. Since we know the hardware can take really good pics maybe Motorola will get on the stick too and improve the Camera app.

Anyeone disappointed with the SGS2 camera? Its ok with normal photos, but then when you try zooming it, the photos look atrocious! its all grainy and no detail at all! is there a fix for this? I have disabled touchwiz and am using ADW...
I didnt seem to have this problem on my nexus one..
I dont see a point of using digital zoom in SGS2 or any other similar phone. It just cripples image quality, nothing else. Personaly I have never used it. And no. Im not dissapointed, Im quite impressed by the built in camera and its recording capabilities. If you wanted to zoom that much, you should have bought standalone camera with optical zoom. Phone is still phone you know.

I have a range of rather nice dslrs like 5d mk2 ect, and I am impressed no end by cam. Video good also, best ive seen on a phone. Digital zoom is pointless and rather a consumer point than a feature. All I want to do is be able to alter aperture, android don't support this afak

Optical zoom is the only good zoom. My tz10 has 12x optical and digital. Even if it had no optical you wouldn't switch digital zoom on as it just pixelates the image.
I'd be impressed if I was shown a camera that didn't ruin the picture with dz

Like everyone else said, no point in using the zoom, it's worth nothing...

I think up to 2x digital zoom, the photo quality is still usable. Note: more higher ISO value, you will get more grainy & less detail photo. The digital zoom may only apply for low ISO setting only
I think the picture quality of the SGS2 is extremely good for a smart phone, after 2 weeks of use.
It's better than many real cameras i know of, which I wont cite (as fanboi wars aren't all that interesting )
if you zoom zoom and zoom all cameras will show grain. the grain it shows is always different and the one of the sgs2 is actually pretty good. I know many professional photographs who actually zoom like that and if they can't zoom as far as their 12MP camera they say it's poorer quality. That's just poor judgement (specially when its their job...).
Of course the resolution of 8MP is lower than 12MP for example, but resolution != quality. Zooming for such pics is also utterly pointless, unless you plan to print a huge poster from your phone camera shots.. but even then, 8MP isn't all that bad.
For everything else, theres huge 2000E+ DSLRs.

Hi guys,
Can anyone that installed kitkat on his/her G2 share some photo samples taken 4.4.2 under this thread?
Also it would be great if you can compare them with older ones.
Thanks in advance.

What's your problem with the camera anyway? It shoots wonderful images as long as there is enough daylight.
Keep in mind it is a SMARTPHONE, not some kind of DSLR camera. Photos will never be as good as a real camera, the lens is simply too small.
Compared to other smartphone in life light the lg is wank, nobody is trying to compare it to a standard or DSLR camera, ffs people just don't get it, the lg G2 camera is amazing when in optimal light but indoors my HTC one S pisses all over it because the lag in low light on the lg g2 causes blurring very bad blurring but my HTC one S focusses and takes pictures as fast indoors as it does outdoors shall I continue ? Has the penny dropped yet COMPARED TO OTHER SMARTPHONE CAMERAS THE LGG2 LAGS IN LOW LIGHT !

The view finder in G2 is slow because it relies on long shutter time to get a bright picture in low light. What people want is that it uses high ISO instead, because having noise in the view finder isnt bad as long as normal pictures still use the higher shutter time. Will this affect the picture? Probably not, but it will give a feeling of a less laggy camera at least.
Excuse me guys, I'm really interested in buying this phone but I'm a bit confused about low light photos. I mean, the "lag" in taking low light photos is expected so to increase light intake. How are low light photos compared to other smartphones? I come from a HTC One S.
Thanks.
I came from a HTC one s and in normal lighting this camera is amazing simple as that

Thanks. And about low light (e.g. indoors) photos what do you think? Are they worse than on the One S? I mean, it's obvious that a very still hand is needed, that's not a bug, but how is the photo quality?
This was me messing with the camera for some reason this morning, untouched, room has poor lighting

In low light with the flash on it takes about 5 second's to take a picture but the quality is amazing and with flash off you have to stay so still so no point and shoot like you can with the HTC one S

I don't use the flash in low light and yes, if the object or person is still, it takes awesome pics in low light situations.

I used nearly all smartphone brands in the market and G2's camera is the most disappointing one for me. Although s3 has 8mp camera it gives better reslults. In my opinion 13mp cam with OIS must be far better.

Being laggy is also one of the worst parts of the camera and I hoped that at least LG can resolve that issue with the KK update.
Welldone LG You didn't surprise us again.
Hello to everyone,
I think our phone doesn't have a great camera, but the sensors doesn't apperas so bad...so can be it a sw problem?
Do you think it can be improve by a new sw?
Did someone found a solution?

I rate camera very good as well.
You can use 4:3 mode instead of 16:9 and it provides slightly more pixel detail.
Good luck.

The camera is capable of some really nice quality shots. Example below
The camera is good, but the processing/software is not the best, using the app snapspeed you realize there is a lot more potential with the camera.
My biggest problem with the camera is it does not handle sunlight well, it will dim down the picture a sunny day will suddenly look like evening and darker instead... I do not have any solution for that..

Camera timer not working
Has anyone else seen this problem? It was working in the beginning but I think after root it stopped. It takes the photos immidiately without the timer.
I too can't find the "timer" ... Have set up the 3 seconds option, but when pressed the shutter, photo was taken immediately.
How to make a timer shot? Thanks.
Please can anyone help me ? I've frozen the stock camera and when i restored it it doesn't want to work. Can anyone give me the apk of the app camera ?
Thanks a lot.
Try the app perfectly clear it will bring your camera with life with HDR realistic mode.

buy the app
but download snapseed it will do well
I was impressed with the sharp focus and good detail but the images were dull. Simply turn up saturation and voila! Nice images. Does great close ups too. I really like being able to trigger it by saying "cheese" also.
What mode did you guys use?
I used HDR 4:3
Anyone have any lowlight shots , thinking of buying this...its kind if a biggie for me lol
As OP said, the camera hardware is pretty good, however the software can be improved.
I came from an iPhone 6 Plus to my HAM7, and I must say I very dearly miss optical stabilization. Color reproduction also leans to the dull side, but as previous posters have mentioned a few seconds' worth of tweaking in Snapseed will fix that problem.
Overall the camera is definitely not bad, and I adore the fact that you can get super close to the subject without losing focus (something I had to buy a macro lens for on my IP6). I just really, really wish it had OIS.
