[Q] Kernel 3.x - Droid X General

The Droid X has OMAP3 chipset right.? and it has ICS too....
1 Q for The Devs...Does This Device Have Linux Kernel 3.x.? The UMS works on ICS ROMS so it must Have it...i just wanted to confirm it.? Does CM9 for this device Have Kernel 3.x....
(Or is there kernel 3.x available for this device on any ROm or standalone)

This device uses a 2.x kernel. The same 2.x kernel on every rom you use, as kernel flashing is not possible.

I'm not sure; however USB Mass Storage has been usable on this device since it was released with Android 2.1.

why is Aurora ICS?

pls bear with me if i asked a stupid question..
as i know, ICS is based on linux 3.0 kernel..
and Aurora has a linux kernel of 2.6.35..
thus why is Aurora labelled as an ICS rom?
It was same with Gingerbread. The unofficial ports were based on 2.6.32 but 2.6.35 was the main for GB.
So it is ICS, its simply using older kernel. Many unofficial ports for newer Android versions use the kernel that was published by manufacturer.

Blefish, rumours are that you are developing ICS with 3.0 kernel for u8800. Is that true?

[Q] ICS MIUI for Defy+ (GB Kernel)

Ok, I think the title is clear enough but, I'd like to know if there are any MIUI ROMs for the Motorola Defy Plus with a 2.3 (GB) Kernel. Thing is, I have Quarx's CM9 on Multiboot but I'd love to try ICS MIUI on it, but I understand I have to flash Froyo Kernel but don't know what would that do to my CM9 I'm so in love with.
I've searched all the threads on xda and the web but I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for.
Thanks!
Unfortunately Currently there is no miui build that works on gb kernel.

Thanks for the reply! Is there another rom that I should try? I don't really know about another interface for 4.0 but it would surely be great if there were one.
Edit: I have another question, is there a way to install a froyo kernel on multiboot so i can keep cm9 (GB) on my default boot? I already have multiboot but I'm not sure if flashing wiui, for example, will damage the other rom.
Look at the miui ics thread by sesme

Well as far as I know multi boot requires same kernel for the roms. I don't know if any recent development has changed it. You may check multi boot thread.

3.0.x Kernel w/new ICS update?

I finally got around to applying the ICS OTA update to my A500 (Image is Acer_AV041_A500_RV05RC01_PA_CUS1 - Build is 1.033.00) but just realized it still has the old 2.6 kernel and not 3.0. Is that typical? Most ICS updates I've seen on other devices updated the kernel to the correct one also, so I was surprised to still see the old one.
Thanks!

That "is" the ICS kernel build
Hmmmm. All of my other ICS devices are on the 3.0 kernel. ICS is based on 3.0 and JellyBean on 3.1.

You are confusing android version # and linux kernel version. There is no definite kernel version for ICS or JB, it just depend of manufacturer's will...it would be great to have the latest kernel thought. TegraOwners's rom is on 3.1 if you really care.
My bad.... Didn't realize the manufacturers we're being slackers....but No, I'm definitely not confusing the android version and Linux kernel....I'm a loooooong time Linux Guy. ;-) My main mistake must have been paying attention to the Wikipedia article on all of the android versions. It specifically stated that ICS was using 3.0 and JB 3.1 (which has been my experience recently with my other devices).
Thanks for the heads up though!

3.X.X kernel

Hi guys does anybody knows are some DEV/DEVS buiding 3.0.X or 3.X.X kernel?
Till now we don't have so many kernels only 2.6.x kernels.
It would be nice if we had 3.x.x kernel in our LG gt540.
I think it's also better for ics and jellybean than example 2.6.35.11 (Correct If I'm wrong ).

Because...
Could you explain it a little more please ? I know that a 3.x kernel is extremely unlikely, but I don't know why it is. Could you share a bit of your knowledge?
It needs writing/porting ALL drivers . Extremely hard to do. We should be happy to have 2.6.32/35 and not only 29 provided by LG. Other phones which have kernel sources and everything provided by their manufacturers of course have newer, better kernel (for ics and jb) but the kernels we have do their Job ok..

Ok and andreas_ you are write we should be happy to have 2.6.35 and 2.6.32 these are also good enough for our
Let's see how good jellybean we have after a while with 2.6.35 kernel.

Well I guess I will stay with gb till the end
Why You like to stay with gb because it maybe little faster than ics or it has also little more free ram??
I go to ics because all of the gb roms are unstable for me which is doesn't good for me.
So ics is a lot more stable for me and i like ics style more than gb .

of course ICS is much more beautiful, but GB has more free ram and i can't stand waiting like 10 seconds to open a new app ( yeah thats really true)
tejasdj12's Cm7 is much more stable than any cm9/aokp i've tested
Any of gb rom (tejas, miro, win) are way faster then ics and good for dayle use. Ics is just to slow, 5-10 to open dailer or sms app is iritating.

2.6.36+ kernel

I want to know if there's a 2.6.36 kernel for our device.
I know there is working 2.6.35 which I have built and used on. But I am specifically interested in 2.6.36 or 2.6.37. The reason is I'm tring to add new io schedule and .35 doesn't support row or fias.
I found some 2.6.36 msm7x30 kernels for samsung, but I can't find one for HTC. (even a dhd kernel will be fine.)
Anyone can help me on this?
Btw, I know 4.1 and 4.0 can run on 2.6 kernel. If I want to port a 4.2 rom, how can I make it work on 2.6 instead of a 3.0 kernel?
The rom has to be able to run off of a 2. kernel. I know PAC 15 does.
