I've recently bought a defy, but the stock rom sucks. I've found many roms like (CM, MIUI, Defy+, etc) but I don't know which one is better in terms of performance and stability, any suggestions ? thanks.

I am new in Android and I am located in Israel, and currently the last version for Israel is 2.1.
is it possible to install a version from UK or other? To have 2.2 or 2.3
What will be the difference for me.
Thanks

RE
I am currently very happy with MIUI again (btw, there a different versions of MIUI, e.g. the great Galnet MIUI), but I like to change my ROM once in a while and I have tried MIUI, CM7 and the Defy+ ROM (incl. some videos)
Defy+ ROM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOSQ0mbMMQk
CM7.1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxrRBxfnv6
MIUI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPRthosV80U
In my opinion MIUI looks best, has great theme support, a lot of nice built in apps and runs very stable now.
CM7 has many nice little tweaks in a custom settings menu and is very close to stock Android, also supports themes, although with less options.
The Defy+ ROM is very stable and gives you Gingerbread (of course all three ROMs are based on Android 2.3.x) with Motoblur (far improved over the old one on the Defy, the thing I loved most about it was the screen rotation animation), but of course there are less tweaks (no notification bar toggles, no themes).

You can flash a new official firmware on your Defy (withRSDlite on your PC) from this list http://and-developers.com/sbf:defy , if you want to update to Froyo manually.
If you want the official 2.3 by Motorola, take a look at this thread: http://and-developers.com/sbf:defy *edit* or maybe even better this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1140839
Or you install a Custom ROM (also based on Gingerbread but not official), remember there is always a tiny risk, what you get is a newer Android version with some improvements (some apps need 2.2 or higher, also Adobe flash in tue browser), possibly more speed and if you install a Custom ROM, more tweaks and options and a redesigned UI.
The UK or other versions as well as the other ROMs (these probably even a bit better) should work well in every part of the world, if your reception is bad, you can switch the baseband with the Defy baseband switcher.
using CM7. Working great for me.. Games are running very smoothly
and battery life is decent.
Thanks everyone, I will install CM7.1 once I have enough free time

MsGinger 2.1 is definitely the best 4 me. GUI is very nice, I love Motorola`s icon work, launcher, fonts etc.
Apps and games are running fine with no lag, and when you freeze the apps you don`t need it works like a charm. Also battery life seems to be the best from that ROM.
CM7 is also good but it lag`s sometimes especialy in some games which runs well in MsGinger 2.1
I tried cm7, ms2ginger, defy+ mod and now back to cm7.1.0-11. In terms of performance cm7 rules. For a starter I recommends cm7.1.0-11 today.

walter79 is still working, so this version looks and works very fine
i've been using cm7, wajkiui, miui...
and here some feedback...
cm7 = visual like the retail version, stable (but sometimes i got FC), it's launcher is not good .. but you can replace it for another one.
miui = great visual, seems like iOS, all apps shortcuts are visible in the homescreen (without menus for them), sometimes i also got FC, reboots...
wajkiui = cm7 and miui mixed, the best custom rom i've tried, very stable, i didn't get any fc yet, the wajkiui's launcher, for me, is the best! screen transitions are very smooth, without delays.. highly recommended!
which is the best miui gingerbread rom available right now for our blade.
plzz tell me or post the link here. i love the miui look.
I think there is only 1 miui gingerbread rom presently available. It is by andalulu and is a bit laggy in UI.
Sent from my Blade using XDA
yes i have installed it. it is nice but there are some noticeable issues with it
1. system.apk is in chinese
2. instead of play store as default marketplace it uses its own market which is all in chinese and when a app want to redirect to play store it get redirected to the other market(which is not by google) and in chinese
3.it creates a swap file that's why not able to mount sd card when connected to pc.
4. more smoothness should be imparted
and a bit minor issues if all these are corrected then it is a nice rom.
The miui rom for the zte blade needs some fixes until then the best choise would be miui v4 which is based on ics that version also needs some work but i am sure that it will be much more smoother than the gb version

Ics is the best for gaming. You can try the older AOKP rom that I use below in my signature. It's pretty stable.
The best for games is gingerbread sense 3.5.Because some games for example from gameloft, are not fully compatible with ics.Ok sense 3.5 roms arent the best option for daily use but for games are better from any cm7/aosp. Ics roms is the next option but the problem is that not all games are compatible with ics android version.

Isn't that because the build.prop is set to a high end device?

Not true, I've found every game I've tried on ICS works pretty much fine and on GB they're far laggier. Even if some games aren't compatible with ICS as you claim, the FPS/performance tradeoff is too large to justify using GB over ICS.

Which ICS ROM did you initially install? I've been on NexusHD2 for a couple of weeks now and it's incredibly stable, it actually is better for daily use than TyphooN (CM7) was for me.
Model Number - NexusHD2
Android version - 4.0.3
Baseband version - 15.40.50.07U_2.11.50.20
Kernel version - 2.6.32.15_tytung_ics_r1
[email protected] #230
Mod version - MedroidMod
Build number - IML74K (NexusHD2-ICS-CM9 v1.5)

That was before HWA when it was still in beta, try the new version. It's brilliant, just replace the stock launcher with GO Launcher or another launcher which isn't based on ICS (e.g. Launcher Pro, ADW etc).
ICS HWA Roms are significantly faster than 3.5 sense roms or 2.3.7 no sense roms etc in gameplay..Have used most of them and the AOKP ICS is the better for me..The loading and response are way faster
And do someone send me a Android 2.3.7 ROM /With or without Sese/ with works rotate?

But he was also using NexusHD2 v1.5, which was before HWA and before it became stable. v2.1 is extremely good, and I've heard that the Paranoidandroid ROM is absolutely stunning as well. Tried it out on SD and it was fairly good, but I didn't have time to really mess around with it much.

Go for hyperdroid ROM and install go launcher, extract the zip of ROM and replace GO launcher with native launcher, you will love it and battery is ever lasting and try installing chainfire 3D driver and you are all set to play the best games...:good:
I used dzo's oxygen a lot and it was pretty good and then i also wanted to try his aurora but it's not that fast for gaming and multi tasking. Is there a rom that you'd suggest using for me? There are different miui roms and such and i can't decide what to install. I don't care about bugs such as tethering, bluetooth etc. as long as wifi is ok btw.
Go back to oxygen or ezet's cm7. You need to downgrade to .32 kernel first.

Our better yet OEX rom
Best rom in my opinion are CM 7.2 by ezet and Aurora by dzo.
You can try both one is GB and other ICS and you can see yourself each rom is best suited to your U8800 because for each phone is different.
Well since we are working on many JB roms for GSM/CDMA for better JB roms,i m in doubt what users think..so i m gonna keep this real simple:
do you prefer a multiboot kernel like:
lupusJB v8 480p
turbo kernel 3.1
or lupus JBv13?:cyclops:
this might give an idea to @wedgess or @DiKeJ when updating a new JB kernel with no 4.2.2 support.

in my opinion ... A no multiboot kernel would be better ..
would ensure more compatibility .. and less complicated for users notavos .. (Would save a lot of silly questions to answer) jejej ..
light a future release of a 4.2 kernel ... not so charged (without many Governors and other things) would be great ..
By the way @ smokerman .. going to be possible in a future kernel to 4.3?? and reach some stable rom? sorry if this is a dumb question on my part ..
Honestly I'd rather use a multiboot kernel like lupus v8 or turbo kernel. It's easier for testing Roms and seeing what you want to use and if you want different themed Roms much easier. The only reason I'm on lupus v13 is because I'm stuck on it lol
Sent from my Xperia Play (r800x)
Honestly I prefer to have multiboot capability like turbo 3.1 jb ICS (cm9) ICS (stock) and GB its great. and easy to swap out Roms while on the move and you can't always flash a kernel just MHO
Sent from my R800x using xda premium
For testing it is really useful to have multiboot (even if we need a good sdcard to use it, with a class 4 sd it is unasable for example), but to keep the things simple IMHO is better to not have it
Sent from my Xperia Play using Tapatalk 4 Beta
@smokerman, on second thought, it would be better if multiboot kernel. But that is compatible with GB / ICS / JB (as Turbo kernel) .. or just GB / JB if possible .. then you could use (GB) rom gaming, and (JB) and cell rom .. hehe
In my case I prefer a non-multiboot kernel, because I think that the compatibility would be better and I also would like to be able to record in 720p. I can also understand people who wants a multiboot kernel, because is a useful thing, but as I don't use it to much I prefer it not to be multiboot

i find hard to have a fully 4.2.2 rom/kernel working for play (touchpads/gamepads included)..we simply dont have that many devs working here..they move on to other new xperia 2013 series..so we gonna be at 4.1.2 and its good as we have many roms with all features for our phone..(touchpads still lag on JB ,but i use 99%gamepads so for me its fine JB roms).
a dedicated kernel its always better for hard gamers..performance is the main reason..on JB i prefer multiboot..different partitions, other roms (GB,ICS,CM9) we have the top of the kernels..altough is highly recommended you have a class10 sd card..or else you gonna be hurting performance.:good:

if you have a core reason .. multiboot is much better. would be great if someone could solve even the touchpad error in GB (for turbo kernel 3.1) as usage in GB (PsPocket) and the gaming performance is much better .. but hey up to you developers that happen ..
Thanks for all your work for Xperia Play, and keep him alive a while longer ..
