Hey man, I really need your help
I tried using your new DCUpdater (which is a fantastic idea btw) and i'm having a major issue. My phone won't boot. At first I was having problems with SuperUser, but I fixed that by enabling USB debugging, then unplugging the phone, then using the Updater. That worked. But when I tried to reboot the phone, it wouldn't boot. I wiped, restored to my most recent backup, and it still won't boot. I wiped, manually installed your new ROM, and tried to reboot again, and that's where I am right now. It had the Quietly brilliant screen, flashed the sprint logo screen, and now it's back to the Quietly brilliant screen. I think it's in an endless boot, because as I was typing this, the screen flashed grey for a second, then it flashed the sprint logo, and now it's back to quietly brilliant. Please please PLEASE get back to me asap, because I don't know what to do.

id say do not flash a rom. do a factory wipe then restart. read my comment under ur original post
You can do what the 2nd guy said..
Wipe everything.. Then dont flash or nandroid restore.. JUST reboot your phone.
Or save all your files to your computer that are on your sdcard... Repartition your sdcard. Then reflash the rom and move your stuff back.

So you're saying wipe everything and then just reboot the phone?

I just did a factory reset, wiped my Dalvik cache, and wiped my sc card option thingy. I went straight from there to rebooting my phone. I'll say something if it boots now
i'd say wipe settings, wipe ext, wipe dalvik, flash rom, boot. if that doesn't work, wipe again and again then boot.

can i flash a new rom now?
Thread Moved as it isn't development.
I am in a really bad spot, my Shift is stuck in a boot loop.
Before this happened, I booted into recovery, made a new backup, and then booted back up, mounted the sd card, and copied a previous backup into the folder. Rebooted into recovery and restored the backup from a couple weeks ago that I just copied over.
Now the phone wont boot, I get a buzz and the white HTC screen, then black, then back to the starting buzz again and the white HTC screen again, then back to recovery.
I've searched through this forum, but I didn't see anything that sounded like a similar problem. What could have happened?
I would just RUU back to factory and re-root, but I can't get the phone booted to a high enough state for the RUU to work.
Any ideas? I really need to get this figured out before work tomorrow.
I have tried flashing the latest version of ClockworkMod Recovery, that didn't seem to help
I was on 2.5.1.8 and now CWM is 3.0.1.4
I tried reflashing the engineering hboot, that didn't work either
I can't get a logcat
I've also tried reflashing the original hboot, I see the switch to S-OFF, but that doesn't change the bootloop
Have I bricked my phone?!!
How could restoring a nandroid do that?!!
I was finally able to run the RUU using fastboot, I'll update once it completes
Edit: Ok, so using Fastboot and running the RUU I was able to get back to a working bootable state.
This time I'm going to try out the guide from the CM wiki http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Evo_Shift_4G:_Full_Update_Guide

IF you could get into fastboot you could have accessed recovery. Could you not do anything there?

Nope, I would get put into recovery on every boot attempt, and couldn't get past it.
Also, I think there are some errors in the steps over on the CM wiki, so I don't recommend anyone try that process until it gets corrected.

With s off and fastboot working, and it booting to recovery why didn't you just wipe then reflash?

Tried that multiple times, always got kicked back to recovery. Even tried wiping each partition individually. Had to RUU to factory then start over, thankfully I had just finished a complete Titanium Backup of my system, so everything was waiting for me on my sd card.

Yeah I'm not sure you know what recovery is....recovery is clockwork 3.0.1.4 which clears data cache makes backups and flashes roms themes mods tweaks....bootloader is the white screen that shows s-off and if you use the volume keys and power button you could have booted into recovery and wiped your data cache and dalvik cache than fresh flash instead of unrooting

I am aware of the difference between the bootloader, fastboot, and recovery. In the OP, i gave the versions of clockwork I had been using, thanks for playing though.

right now neither, because I've just finished up re-rooting after RUU
I was picking reboot system, and it would go through the start of a boot cycle, but then die prior to the 4G boot animation starting and then start back over but kick me back into recovery.

Well hopefully that's an isolated incident and something just went goofy I would have tried to wipe everything and flash a fresh Rom but that's me, anyways your fixed now, newkidd has a one zip back to stock s-on file in the development section check it out its great to have in a pinch cause its a zip that runs from bootloader great for on the go unroot

Thanks for the tip, I'll have to go grab that just in case I get this kind of weirdness again
Okay, I'm about to SBF my phone, which is a major PITA. So I thought I should caution other members. I was on the Rooted/DeOdex'd Gingerbread release with the ALPHA1 theme and wanted to try out RubixBlurryBread. Rubix install went fine, and booted no problem. It didn't seem like an improvement over the original leak, and actually ran slower on my phone. I thought "No biggie, I made a backup before flashing Rubix"...... wrong. I restored my backup and everything went as it always does with a backup, until the bootup. It's a backup, a 1-to-1 match of how my phone was just 30 minutes earlier, this can't be happening, but I'm stuck in a boot loop. So, even though I hate the idea, I formatted the Data and Cache. Still boot looping. Grrr... Did factory reset from standard recovery, no help. Wiped Data/Cache and reinstalled the original DeOdex'd zip from TBH.. nothing is working, everything results in a boot loop.
Anyone have any insight on this? I really don't want to have to set everything up again. I'm going to SBF, but not going to set everything up again, until I know for sure that my backup is useless, for whatever reason.

just SBF, reroot, and reflash the GB leak
boot into the GB leaked than boot into recovery again
than advance restore data only
if this doesnt work than your back to square 1 with your data

You have to install the rooted version first then install the deodexed zip because I believe the deodexed zip only changes some system files, I did the same thing by mistake. So unfortunately you will have to SBF but when you get back up and running just remember to flash the root only zip first then boot into recovery and you can then flash the deodexed zip, hope this helps

This is what I did last night, just before going to sleep. Thankfully, it worked, so only thing I had to really do was re-apply the theme and 180 LCD Density. Cool that we had the same idea but I'm still concerned about the backup not working, because I definitely don't want to make a habit of SBF'ing any time I don't like a new ROM, though I'm probably going to wait for LibertyGB before I flash another, and I'm fairly certain I will like that one
Thanks for taking the time to read and comment, really appreciate it.
I tried to go back to my stock bg backup also. It went ok and started up but I got force close on all my blur apps. I couldn't get the fc's to stop so I also had to sbf and reload everything.
I am rooted, I had the Mexdroid rom, went to to another rom, did the ususal wipe data etc..
I wanted to go back to my other rom, I restore using nandroid, wen i reboot the phone it's stuck at bootscreen.. I have to turn it off by taking the battery out... Any Suggestions, Thanks in advance

Reboot into boot loader. (Power button and hold volume down)
Then select recovery. It will boot into cw, and you can restore or reflash.
I tried that, didn't work, My nandroid would load just fine and then nothing.. I just loaded the old rom on and it works..
Maybe you can answer this for me since i'm a noob, If i have gingerbread 2.3 how would i load a diff rom on there (honeycomb, etc..) ? I'm using clockword mod recov 3.0. something something

Simply put the .zip file for whatever rom you want on the SD and flash like you have been. That simple. Once you wipe, its like a clean slate so you can flash whatever you want.
Thanks, Maybe there was something wrong with my Nandroid back and it would restore my previous save.. So it doesn't matter what kernal/rom or version of clockwork I have as long as I wipe data & reset correct?

I had and htc incredible phone before and I know its because of the locked bootloader for the droid x but it is impossible for me to install roms on this phone. I feel like I am a failure at life lol. I have it rooted with petes root tool, I have bootstrap recovery installed. But when I go into clockwork recovery to install the zip file and that goes OK, the phone reboots and I am stuck in the bootloop. I know I can sbf back to stock and do it all over again because I am smart to always do a backup of the current stock rom I am on.
There has to be something I am missing that I am hoping you guys can help me with. I am dying to put a CyanogenMod or OMFGB rom on here but like I said...I am a failure lol..

Ya I have done those steps also. wiped data/cache/battery stats. Still was a no go.
Wipe data factory reset, wipe data partition and then go to advance and wipe davlik data. Then flash rom the new rom. Hope this helps.

Thanks I will try this out. I finally had enough and called Verizon to send me another phone. Now when I use the bootstrap it reboots goes to the moto icon and then I get a black screen to nothing, I have to do a battery pull and restart the phone. So now I really have no way to get to clockwork recovery. Like I said I called them up and on Tuesday they are sending me a Droid X2, so hopefully I will have better luck with that phone and deal with it for a few more weeks then upgrade to the Nexus Prime because that phone looks sweet.
